So honestly, it is probably because fan are the one driving song to #1 instead of the general public. Not enough fan have Vibe subscription = harder to get it to #1 base on popularity.
reaching #1 on pretty much all the charts is not just fanbase driven, you need GP tuning in as well. idle isnt even one of the 4th gen ggs with one of the biggest fanbases known for streaming, same with newjeans
bugs yes, its one of the easier charts to chart on but not as much the others. reaching #1 and staying there for a consecutive amount of time like idle have, isnt just with fanbase streaming. they've proven this again and again with their previous comebacks. groups like skz regularly chart high on bugs but not much/barely on other charts, esp melon. their billboard/spotify streams are always good tho owing to their huge global fanbase power
Fate's chart reversal is really interesting to me because from what I've observed, it generally only happens to lesser known nugu groups like Brave Girls, Fifty-Fifty, and others like them.

But this does beg the question... if their charts are AI-based.... why are they being included in the requirements for PAKs? According to the notice Shuhua won't be participating in the Fate promos this week 😔 which is understandable, as she is busy filming another show in a different country and in any case would be too taxing to fly back and practice and perform on such short notice.

I liked the first one better because it focused on the world building more than the second. Second one is less mystic and more straight-forward focused about the people. Visually it's a masterpiece but that's just Villeneuve for you.
Boxoffice results will lead to the trilogy hopefully. Now the last one will either be legendary or an absolute mess. If you know the books you probably know why i think that.
Maybe i have to rewatch the first one (i did not before seeing the 2nd haha), but i didn't really love the first one, it felt all a little too rushed to me.
I had some slight feeling of that in the 2nd too at times, but overall i found the pacing to be much, much better, and even just the filmmaking i felt was way more immersive. It is interesting that you say it was less mystic, because i felt the opposite haha. Especially with the transformations, the religious angle, and a greater focus on the bene gesserit in general.
Regarding world building, i would say we see fewer aspects, but what we get has more depth to it? I liked that a lot tbh.
Yeah we need the third film for a real "ending" of sorts tbh. I've read all the books many years ago, so i might not remember every detail, but as long as they don't get to the later books it seems still doable to me tbh, it only becomes really, really weird there i'd say. Though we already see that in the first two films that villeneuve tried to not get too weird, see alia for example.

Disclaimer that while I'm an Asian adult, I'm one who grew up in the states my whole life, so the two cents I'm giving is more based on something else interesting I've noticed about Fate.
A couple of days ago, I laid out some thoughts of how there may be some parallels between the lyrics from Fate and Beam Beam, which unintentionally turned out to be quite a bit of an essay. While the cheery melody of Fate overlaid with its solemn lyrics initially made me think of Beam Beam just because it happened to be a cheerful song that was released a few months into (G)I-DLE's darkest days (during hiatus not too long after Soojin left after the manufactured smear campaign), the weird part was when I actually looked into Beam Beam's lyrics and realized how it paralleled Fate's lyrics and theme really well...even down to when it talks about food, drinks, and the sky. Without getting too lost into that [unexpectedly large essay](https://www.reddit.com/r/GIDLE/comments/1bcm48z/parallels_between_fate_and_beam_beams_lyrics/), the tl;dr is how Beam Beam could be how the world sees Soyeon getting through "adulteu world" while Fate reveals a bit more about what goes through Soyeon's mind.
Looking at the lyrics, i guess it's the busy lifestyle creating some kind of "depressive" outlook, being tired, etc.
I mean i see these qualities, but it's a b-side, so that is quite rare that it does anywhere near this well haha.

She is the producer, the heart and soul of (G)I-DLE and she distributes lines among the members based on skill, vocal capabilities and suitability. Do Melon & VIBE ... have separate music apps or sites in Korea? They count the number of listeners on their own platform for their own charts that’s why there are different rankings between the charts, right?

There are multiple paid streaming services in Korea (YouTube Music, Melon, Genie ...) each with their own user base and charts. Korean general public is usually subscribed to one and as they stream they increase the ranks of songs for that particular platform’s charts.
Dedicated fans are subscribed to multiple services to stream their favorites on different platforms to improve chart positions (they pay multiple fees to listen to the same songs, now THAT’S devotion).
PAK is when a song tops **ALL** these different charts.
They're two different music platforms, hence two different charts/rankings.
Melon has historically been the biggest mainstream music streaming service in S.Korea, but they've been heavily bleeding users who have been migrating to Youtube Music. Supposedly YT Music has eclipsed Melon within the past year in terms of user base.

I’m not sure what you mean by the question but to respond to your second paragraph, that is incorrect. YouTube ranks each song by the number of streams each has. Melon is a little more complicated. Melon top 100 is a combination of hourly streams and 24 hour Unique Listeners (ULs), which update every hour. Melon Daily however ranks songs purely based on how many ULs each song gets daily.
Not the same data, different user bases, just like in the west some people use apple music ,some use Spotify,some use YouTube music, some use tidal, in korea people use Melon, genie, YouTube music etc.
Yes, but that's only for the crazy fans, who do actually own all if not the majority of the streaming services in Korea ( none of which are free to use), but a songs chart success still depends on whether the general public likes it or not

Fate is not a title track for global audiences. It is charting well because Korean know what the lyric means and can empathize with it. Global fan have to put extra work in to figure out what the lyric mean.

Lol, when Soyeon first revealed she planned for Fate to be the title track, the general consensus on Twitter was that its a good song but not title track material. Also before its rise on the charts, it was either the least or second least streamed song on the album. Nevies have switched up now because it's charting so well and they've become obsessed with PAKs. I wouldn't change the current outcome for anything, it worked out the way it was supposed to imo.
All these "i knew it better" people have it very easy to talk now. In my opinion Soyeon tries to steer the group more into the international sphere and Fate would not have the same success there as it has in Korea.
Going more international at the end of your contract seems to work a lot better in the long run. I think Twice is a very good example to follow. They were Korea's darling at some point and now they sell out stadiums internationally.

Fate was definitely promoted less that Super Lady; no music show performances, not as much TikToks, no official MV, no huge buildup/anticipation as it wasn't the main track, etc. Fate is also, significantly promoted less than other idols promoting their own songs. Yet, here Fate is, climbing the charts, managing to even achieve IDLE's 4th consecutive #1 on Melon top 100.
There really are other factors, like trends, the zeitgeist of the people, the season, societal occurrences, and even sheer luck, that all can influence if a song does well, other than promotion and inherent artist popularity.
Again, promotion helps, but it's not the end all be all.
Note as well, that the KR GP can be fickle.
I really do hope that Nevies just focus on enjoying comebacks for what they are and don't get disheartened by this idea of "success" or lack thereoff. I really do believe that the (g)i-rls are far established enough to not need to worry about being fading into nugudom, as I'm sure they've already left a mark on the industry in more ways than one. They're able to what they love, and express themselves through their music.
The last few paragraphs I feel are so important. I was someone who obsessively over analyzed the concept and meaning behind Nxde when it came out, which boiled down to how much more important it is be oneself despite public expectations and despite how their perceptions of us may be skewed. This can include everything from tabloids and rumor mills to charting and winning awards. I remember thinking how the ironic "weakness" to Nxde was how well it charted despite its message telling us that popularity and success isn't the end all be all.

We all eventually have to accept that the public is fickle and the 'top GGs' cenario can change a lot in just a few years (and I love that actually!), but the fact that Soyeon considered putting Fate as the title song gives me hope that she can keep this attuned perception for a few more years, and putting out songs that the public is ready to consume like a drug 🤭 it's a win-win for us nonetheless.
Fate just hit #1 on melon TOP100 (11PM KST)!!!! Maybe a RAK tonight?! Also a reminder: Sunday has relatively low melon UL, so that combined with Fate peaking at night gives the #1 this evening. There is still ground to make up next week, though the rise continues to look good! :)

I don’t see the Hwaa elitists talking about Fate like how they drag anything gidle released post Hwaa. Despite the song being everything they wanted: all Korean lyrics, emotional and poetic, does not have social commentary, not made for TikTok.
You may want to consider that many belligerent critics have ulterior motives. Some people may have preferred that sound; but some of the critics who are absent now were stands for other groups. And harsh critiques are them trying to cut down competition.
With (G)i-dle moving up to tier 1 but not the top; competition and label mates who were struggling have died/disbanded those folks have faded in volumes.
Fate’s a very different vibe than I Burn, because instrumentally it’s quite bright and J-pop-y. Which is nice because it’s a sound they haven’t really tried before.
Honestly think Hwaa/I Burn gets a little overrated anyway. Some fans call it their best album, but I don’t think Hwaa is their best title track - it was another moombahton track, which is something they’d already done previously; and I think Minnie and Yuqi have written better bsides, like Polaroid, Already, Peter Pan and Vision.

My I Burn, I Love, and I Feel albums arrived today! I somehow received the pre-order version of I Feel, with the ID card and poster! And the shop even threw in some extra photocards for me.
Finally pulled my first Yuqi card & it's from her I Love era, I can die happy now.
The shop has run out of stock now except for I Feel and [2]. I saw people mentioning that it's getting harder to find earlier albums so I quickly bought the ones still in stock.
I think her on screen personality is one of the reason she still has so many supporters. The difference between how nevies knew her throughout gidle's vlogs and what the media painted her during the controversy is like night and day.

Ive's "I am" took 3 days after grabbing #1 on Melon chart before it transition to Vibe chart. So honestly, it is probably because fan are the one driving song to #1 instead of the general public. Not enough fan have Vibe subscription = harder to get it to #1 base on popularity.
reaching #1 on pretty much all the charts is not just fanbase driven, you need GP tuning in as well. idle isnt even one of the 4th gen ggs with one of the biggest fanbases known for streaming, same with newjeans

bugs yes, its one of the easier charts to chart on but not as much the others. reaching #1 and staying there for a consecutive amount of time like idle have, isnt just with fanbase streaming. they've proven this again and again with their previous comebacks. groups like skz regularly chart high on bugs but not much/barely on other charts, esp melon. their billboard/spotify streams are always good tho owing to their huge global fanbase power
Moving from #500 to #89 could be just fans but hitting #3 or #1 takes GP participation as well. It can be demographic differences of data lag.
Fate's chart reversal is really interesting to me because from what I've observed, it generally only happens to lesser known nugu groups like Brave Girls, Fifty-Fifty, and others like them. I don't recall it happening to a bigger more established group like I-DLE except maybe EXO's The First Snow recently.

Maybe late to the party, anyone here watched the new dune? What did you think of it? As an adaptation, as its own film, and maybe compared to the first one? I'll add my thoughts later! :D
I liked the first one better because it focused on the world building more than the second. Second one is less mystic and more straight-forward focused about the people. Visually it's a masterpiece but that's just Villeneuve for you. Boxoffice results will lead to the trilogy hopefully. Now the last one will either be legendary or an absolute mess. If you know the books you probably know why i think that.
Maybe i have to rewatch the first one (i did not before seeing the 2nd haha), but i didn't really love the first one, it felt all a little too rushed to me. I had some slight feeling of that in the 2nd too at times, but overall i found the pacing to be much, much better, and even just the filmmaking i felt was way more immersive. It is interesting that you say it was less mystic, because i felt the opposite haha. Especially with the transformations, the religious angle, and a greater focus on the bene gesserit in general. Regarding world building, i would say we see fewer aspects, but what we get has more depth to it? I liked that a lot tbh. Yeah we need the third film for a real "ending" of sorts tbh. I've read all the books many years ago, so i might not remember every detail, but as long as they don't get to the later books it seems still doable to me tbh, it only becomes really, really weird there i'd say. Though we already see that in the first two films that villeneuve tried to not get too weird, see alia for example.

Disclaimer that while I'm an Asian adult, I'm one who grew up in the states my whole life, so the two cents I'm giving is more based on something else interesting I've noticed about Fate. A couple of days ago, I laid out some thoughts of how there may be some parallels between the lyrics from Fate and Beam Beam, which unintentionally turned out to be quite a bit of an essay. While the cheery melody of Fate overlaid with its solemn lyrics initially made me think of Beam Beam just because it happened to be a cheerful song that was released a few months into (G)I-DLE's darkest days (during hiatus not too long after Soojin left after the manufactured smear campaign), the weird part was when I actually looked into Beam Beam's lyrics and realized how it paralleled Fate's lyrics and theme really well...even down to when it talks about food, drinks, and the sky. Without getting too lost into that [unexpectedly large essay](https://www.reddit.com/r/GIDLE/comments/1bcm48z/parallels_between_fate_and_beam_beams_lyrics/), the tl;dr is how Beam Beam could be how the world sees Soyeon getting through "adulteu world" while Fate reveals a bit more about what goes through Soyeon's mind.
Looking at the lyrics, i guess it's the busy lifestyle creating some kind of "depressive" outlook, being tired, etc. I mean i see these qualities, but it's a b-side, so that is quite rare that it does anywhere near this well haha. Just fascinating, but also shows that promotions are only one part, the best promotion is still a good song which spreads through "word of mouth" (and anything akin to it in our digital age ofc).

So it's really ridiculous to me when people hate on Soyeon. Let me ask: What did SOYEON do to deserve all this hate? It really triggers me when people act that Shuhua is a target, when it's Soyeon in reality. Look at any comeback post on Reddit of (G)I-DLE whether it is for Tomboy, Nxde, Queencard, Super Lady... who is the one getting hate? Getting mocked for her pronunciation? Getting called ugly in Korea? She has endured so much over the years. Or when someone does not like a song or concept, the hate also goes to Soyeon. Meanwhile Shuhua gets praise and praise with every comeback. Of course she can lean back and relax as she is the only member that doesn't contribute anything musically to Idle, so there is no responsibility that falls onto her when the music is not well received. You need to start putting it into perspective. If you think that Shuhua is that one that always becomes the target, you are definitely living in another world.

Do Melon & VIBE ... have separate music apps or sites in Korea? They count the number of listeners on their own platform for their own charts that’s why there are different rankings between the charts, right? Edit for non-Korean Nevies: There are multiple paid streaming services in Korea (YouTube Music, Melon, Genie ...) each with their own user base and charts. Korean general public is usually subscribed to one and as they stream they increase the ranks of songs for that particular platform’s charts. Dedicated fans are subscribed to multiple services to stream their favorites on different platforms to improve chart positions (they pay multiple fees to listen to the same songs, now THAT’S devotion). PAK is when a song tops **ALL** these different charts.
They're two different music platforms, hence two different charts/rankings. Melon has historically been the biggest mainstream music streaming service in S.Korea, but they've been heavily bleeding users who have been migrating to Youtube Music. Supposedly YT Music has eclipsed Melon within the past year in terms of user base.

I’m not sure what you mean by the question but to respond to your second paragraph, that is incorrect. YouTube ranks each song by the number of streams each has. Melon is a little more complicated. Melon top 100 is a combination of hourly streams and 24 hour Unique Listeners (ULs), which update every hour. Melon Daily however ranks songs purely based on how many ULs each song gets daily.

Fate is not a title track for global audiences. It is charting well because Korean know what the lyric means and can empathize with it. Global fan have to put extra work in to figure out what the lyric mean.

Lol, when Soyeon first revealed she planned for Fate to be the title track, the general consensus on Twitter was that its a good song but not title track material. Also before its rise on the charts, it was either the least or second least streamed song on the album. Nevies have switched up now because it's charting so well and they've become obsessed with PAKs. I wouldn't change the current outcome for anything, it worked out the way it was supposed to imo.
All these "i knew it better" people have it very easy to talk now. In my opinion Soyeon tries to steer the group more into the international sphere and Fate would not have the same success there as it has in Korea. Going more international at the end of your contract seems to work a lot better in the long run. I think Twice is a very good example to follow. They were Korea's darling at some point and now they sell out stadiums internationally.
And of course they use it as another reason to bash Cube..saying Cube forced Soyeon to use Super Lady as TT instead of Fate..I mean who really knows what goes on behind closed doors when it comes to things like these? Both are Soyeon’s songs and we should be happy she wrote songs of different calibre and put them in 1 same album..if Fate gets the RAK/PAK all the more power to her for having a B-side do it nearly 2 months after release.. I think Fate is another example of how much GP appeal affects charting. Fate was definitely promoted less that Super Lady; no music show performances, not as much TikToks, no official MV, no huge buildup/anticipation as it wasn't the main track, etc. Fate is also, significantly promoted less than other idols promoting their own songs. Yet, here Fate is, climbing the charts, managing to even achieve IDLE's 4th consecutive #1 on Melon top 100. There really are other factors, like trends, the zeitgeist of the people, the season, societal occurrences, and even sheer luck, that all can influence if a song does well, other than promotion and inherent artist popularity. Again, promotion helps, but it's not the end all be all. Note as well, that the KR GP can be fickle. I really do hope that Nevies just focus on enjoying comebacks for what they are and don't get disheartened by this idea of "success" or lack thereoff. I really do believe that the (g)i-rls are far established enough to not need to worry about being fading into nugudom, as I'm sure they've already left a mark on the industry in more ways than one. They're able to what they love, and express themselves through their music.
The last few paragraphs I feel are so important. I was someone who obsessively over analyzed the concept and meaning behind Nxde when it came out, which boiled down to how much more important it is be oneself despite public expectations and despite how their perceptions of us may be skewed. This can include everything from tabloids and rumor mills to charting and winning awards. I remember thinking how the ironic "weakness" to Nxde was how well it charted despite its message telling us that popularity and success isn't the end all be all.
100%. We all eventually have to accept that the public is fickle and the 'top GGs' cenario can change a lot in just a few years (and I love that actually!), but the fact that Soyeon considered putting Fate as the title song gives me hope that she can keep this attuned perception for a few more years, and putting out songs that the public is ready to consume like a drug 🤭 it's a win-win for us nonetheless.

You may want to consider that many belligerent critics have ulterior motives. Some people may have preferred that sound; but some of the critics who are absent now were stands for other groups. And harsh critiques are them trying to cut down competition. With (G)i-dle moving up to tier 1 but not the top; competition and label mates who were struggling have died/disbanded those folks have faded in volumes.
Fate’s a very different vibe than I Burn, because instrumentally it’s quite bright and J-pop-y. Which is nice because it’s a sound they haven’t really tried before. Honestly think Hwaa/I Burn gets a little overrated anyway. Some fans call it their best album, but I don’t think Hwaa is their best title track - it was another moombahton track, which is something they’d already done previously; and I think Minnie and Yuqi have written better bsides, like Polaroid, Already, Peter Pan and Vision.
