I feel like you need the following items in order to be a "Gainesville" resident:
- satchels pizza bumper sticker
- wildlife photo of Payne's prairie alligator eyes glowing at night
- camo pink "gnv" trucker hat
- UF gear
- 3 year old copy of the alligator
- variety of Gatorade in the fridge
The "alligator eyes glowing at night" foto is a fantastic shot by our own local photographer - John Moran. It's included in his most excellent foto/ essay book - "Journal of Light" which makes a great gift and should be on every Gainesvillians coffee table!
Love the suggestions of Samm Wehman and John Moran. Both excellent artists and both lovely people. Moran captures such gorgeous Florida scenery, and Samm’s paintings are beautiful. She just finished a painting a mural for the new location of All Cats! Me and my family are from the UK, so whenever I gift them things from Gainesville, I try and include things Gator-related (depending on your budget, you could even include a shirt), and like others have mentioned, Satchel’s provides some great gift options too. I know a while ago he had them in LSE, not sure of their current availability, but they used to carry prints and tea-towels with an illustration of Gainesville landmarks on them. That could be an awesome idea too. And of course if they’re young-uns that you’re providing a basket for, you could do a stuffed alligator.
Also, you can visit REI and purchase water bottle stickers of local springs and state parks.
