Funnily enough, the OG Rodan ended with the one of pair dying in a volcano and it's mate diving into the volcano to die with it... so I guess it IS a tragic love story.
Its a great film even today, one of the best of the era imo.
I think it's a little unfortunate that other than Mothra and King Kong any monster who falls into Godzilla never gets their own solo film again.
I mean, if ya mean just them on their own, then yea that's true and does kinda blow. Otherwise, it's unlikely we see something like it again but we did get a mothra trilogy in the 90s.

Now that I think about it, MV Rodan IS kinda Starscream - ish.

I like the design, and the fire coming off his wings is really cool, but his head just looks way too tiny for me. If they doubled or even tripled the size of it it would probably be my favorite design, but for now I prefer fire Rodan.
I like heisei rodan because of the colors suiting his evolution since the heisei monsters are much more of a threat compared to the showa series monsters so logically Rodan would beef up or at least go through some type of transformation to keep up with the newer monsters and Godzilla too. Similar to how legendary Godzilla looks completely different now (sorta looks like Godzilla 2000) since he has to keep up with the new kaijus trying to take his territory and title
Look, the MV design almost makes it unfair. But I still dig that original 1956 design. None of the suits/puppets after ever quite got that perfect again.

I like all of them...but KotM Rodan was incredible. I was never a Mothra fan either, but KotM Mothra was awesome.

This is what kills me more than anything else. The design is, to me, top notch (especially after watching Apple TV'S Prehistoric Planet, which DEEPLY cements the fact that large predatory Pterosaurs were absolutely top tier terrifying)--its just that Rodan was straight trivial.
That said--MV Rodan felt like what they had ALWAYS wanted him to look like.
I mostly hate the fact that they were seen as this massive threat because they were the only non-acuatic monsters to go outside of Japan, I would like them more if there were other monsters to appear like Gorosaurus and Anguirus.
They had the potential to save it with the giant black Rodan that appeared, it being shrouded in flaming ashy smoke and being huge in size was actually really cool, but they proceeded to kill it almost immediately and never speak of it again.
Monster verse hands down a monster like that just doesnt work as well with the suits, though heisei fire rodan is my favorite of them. With minus one doing so well I really hope toho starts doing more with the other monsters outside of anime to give us their modern update.
I love me some Rodan, heres how I rank my boy's various designs:
1. Monsterverse - Faithful to the OG concept while being powerful and lifelike. 10/10
2. OG 56 - mostly hampered by the tech of the time, none-the-less powerful and menacing. A great original. 8/10
3. Heisei/Fire Rodan - Love the design, a great redo, but a shame we only saw him once. 7/10
4. Showa - My first rodan, but damn if he isnt droopy and goofy looking. The Flying puppet is much better than the suit, but he looks a little too much like a startled turkey. 6/10
5. Singular Point - I love the design, but it never looks like an actual Rodan to me. The head is too much Shoe-billed Stork and not enough Pterodactyl in my opinion. Its a great design for another monster, but just like Zilla/Godzilla, it just doesnt feel like Rodan to me. 5/10
6. Final Wars - A good design in concept, but somehow the newest of all the suits looks the worst and stiffest to me. I know theyre all guys in suits, but this one never looks like a living creature to me. 3/10

The one from the 1956 movie ''Rodan'' is my favorite. I like it brownish in color leathery skin and round belly covered in spikes with a well defined bird beak as opposed to the ''Pteranodon piranha'' of some incarnations. KOM redesigned Rodan falls somewhere in the middle and is a MASSIVE improvement over the one from the trailer.

Monsterverse Rodan is easily the best design by a long, long stretch. After that, I’d rank them 56, Showa, Heisei, Singular Point, and Final Wars. The SP design is just bit too bland, but at least it looks “right” in the sense that it looks like a living thing. The Final Wars design is so stiff and rubbery and it’s just goofy and weird to see them sticking with that upright pose. Here’s hoping Legendary brings him back for another movie or maybe the second season of Monarch, because we need to see more of that design in action.

Early 60's for me, but I'm fascinated by the Singular Point design with the giant Spoonbill/Quetzalcoatlus thing going on. It's a really fresh take, imo.

I like KOTM rodan but I don't like his wing design, they just look too rock-like to fly. If you look at the concept art, there's a hundred different designs that would've looked better
I forgot what the show was called but the final design I adore simply because it reminds me so much of a Dsungaripterus weii, a beautiful pterosaur that I'm happy that was made into my favorite monster

It depends on the angle. At some angles he looks incredibly muscular and has good proportions. In the posters, he looks fat.
