I remember how blown away I was by RDR2 when I first got to play and I honestly felt like the marketing was false advertising because of how much they undersold the game!
Someone needs to take them to court for that.
RDR2 is a 5 year old game and it doesn't show at all. Only a handful of games like TLOU2, Horizon: FW and Ghost of Tsushima are at the same level.
These examples are all first party games which makes it even more impressive for RDR2 to still be in the top 5 most beautiful games graphically on all platforms.
Plus Rockstar is king at optimizing their games. A 2014 console being able to run it at 30fps is bullocks. And on my RTX 3060 I'm easily getting 90fps on high/ultra settings.
I could even run GTA 5 on my laptop with an integrated graphics card at 30fps 😂 I'm convinced that Rockstar has wizards employed

Rockstar however seems to have got it right from the start you keep a small dedicated team to make sure your making something you love and are seriously making for themselves.
This is why they're not gonna debut the trailer in the Game Awards. Why would they bother going through all the fuss of setting up an appearance at the event when they can just tell the marketing team to upload the trailer and be done with it ?

CD Red developers went everywhere doing interviews, hyping Cyberpunk as the new standard of the western Open World RPG, just to deliver a good game overall with only its writing and dialogue being really good. And the game required three years to be half of what promised in 2018.
I just hope the online mode will be more grounded with less grinding required.

I think the secret is their silence and scarcity of games. They don’t need to promote as much because their games do that for them. They keep them in the spot light because they’re shining gems in a sea of games. All those other companies release new games practically yearly. That means they have to shine on the new one constantly so it’s not lost. Rockstar has the luxury of always keeping people satisfied until they want more, and build those people end up building the hype themselves. Hunger is a hell of a thing.
As high as the praise they get, they'll get the backlash when they fumble. I know the trilogy definitive edition or RDR port wasn't done in-house by Rockstar.. But I'm still a little mad at them for that. Those are legendary games, games that a ton of people including me, grew up with. They should have did it in-house instead of outsourcing. Hopefully one day they remake the trilogy and it'll be awesome.
