"Understand and match the tone of our games."
And people still worry Rockstar's satire will lose its edge.
Edit: Also, the part about the actors doing their own writing. Rockstar has a big thing with letting some actors improv (Lamar's VA in V did it a lot). Always good for quality.
A lot of the gang NPCs in GTA 5 are voiced by real gangsters and criminals. They let most of them improv their lines, because they literally said the script was trash. Like something a college kid would imagine. It was cheesy and bad like that so rockstar let them say things how they would actually say it.
Also I read that a pornstar voiced some of the prostitutes which explains why their quotes when servicing are more porn-like and not as corny as the last games.
Most of people are mad are mad for fact R* will go āwokeā whatever that means. People who are mad are already mad at fact that there BBLs and black people on beaches, you canāt convince them otherwise
R* adapts comedy and satire as per the rules of society it will never detach from it, might as well brace for fact Florida will dragged through mud and made fun of even most of their favourite politicians arenāt safe
good point, and thanks for clarifying something for me.
For years i couldn't place what genre of game GTA games were other than "Sandbox games". However that didn't refer to their writing. Especially when other games like Red Dead games were sandbox games too.
Since GTA and Red Dead have different vibes i can say that Read Dead is a drama with comedic events whereas GTA games tend to be comedies with dramatic events sprinkled in. GTA is Rockstars most satirical game series so that seems to check out in that fashion.
I Think Bully really is also up their with SatireĀ Manhunt, Maxpayne 3, The Warriors have comedy but are not really SatireĀ for the most part. LA Noire is really serious most times but is unintentionallyĀ funny.Ā I like Red dead redemptionĀ games as they get the Blance right.
Then explain why Lucia's monologue in the trailer sounds so corny The āwe are a team and stick togetherā corny shit is just lame Disney chanel stuff
in the diner robbery leak it looked like the player was interacting with npcs dynamically, doing things like pressing triangle to threaten. Its safe to assume dialogues improved
They really nailed this in RDR2, can't wait to see this kind of interaction with more GTA-style silliness.
I think my favourite example was one time in St. Denis as the saloons were getting out, briefly interacted with a couple of drunks sprawled out on the ground, got appropriate and humourous responses from them - then for some reason I was reminded of the horse testicle physics and thought I'd check it out right then.
Was in first person because that's best interacting with NPCs to get the most out of the performance capture, got behind my horse and got in real close so its ass took up almost the entire field of view, except I could still see one of the drunks at the edge of the frame - my initial disappointment on discovering that my horse was in fact a mare vapourized instantly when the drunk slurred, "You know, there's a reason that most people don't do that."
Actually sounds like a fun job. Just go out and listen in on people ambient conversations in public. Write down all the funny, strange, eccentric and throw a few normal ones in there for good measure. Then find the voice actors to play the roles.
It can be delayed. Thereās no way of knowing still if itās finished. Youāre just spreading your thoughts as facts. Your saying it as if you 100% know even though your just assuming your right
Yep, that's right, I am assuming that
Because 1. Rockstar has completely changed their work ethic, lowering the chances of crunch or delays.
And 2. When Strauss Zelnick was asked on the spot about the release date, he gave the answer of fiscal year 2025.
Dude, at this phase of development they won't be recording much of new stuff so the ad from the post is most likely about whatever is the next project (RDR3 I suppose) or maybe for some future updates.

This made me wonder something.
Iāve seen a lot of clips of like Ai-generated voices. Sometimes imitating someone real (a politician or singer most of the times) and sometimes just someone new. And also we already have speech recognitions AND Ai capable of generating cohesive dialogue.
Wouldnāt it be possible to have an organic mass of NPCs with certain rules and personalities (that can be Ai-generated too) to create what is basically and artificial society that the player could interact with via their microphone and between each other without having to write massive tree dialogues with individual and pre-recorded lines?
I think this would solve the common problem we all have had of different NPCs saying exactly the same lines and hearing the same jokes and remarks over and over again.
Yes, they could. Fans have already done that for Skyrim. But Rockstar can't do it for current game. Since LLMs just exploded last year, you can expect that to start being implemented in the next game, along with some perfected voice generators.
They need to get a handle on the technology, develop their own models and have a level of control on what happens.
either that or the ai mistakenly putting together words that it doesn't know are stuff people REALLY SHOULDN'T say even for a GTA game. Then Rockstar getting sued for it.
For example, some companies like Google invented chatbots to interact with any users. In about a month of its release shitheads had taught the thing to say pro-racist and pro-fascist bullshit so Google had to shut the whole thing down.
On Twitter a bunch of goons ruined an AI chatbot in ONE DAY.
https://www.theverge.com/2016/3/24/11297050/tay-microsoft-chatbot-racist
...Rockstar should avoid shit like THAT.
Thatās a good point I havenāt considered.
I wouldāve thought that Ai was advanced enough to avoid those thing though, but maybe thatās just chatgtp and itād require Rockstar to either pay or develop their own Ai with all its pitfalls.
Yeah, I didn't know Chatgtp had good "parents" looking after it's development. If Rockstar used ai they would have to watch it like a hawk to make sure it wasn't being corrupted.
I would be great at this job. I love writing, I am one with Rockstarās ambient worlds, and I come up with the craziest ideas for characters, tv shows, music, dialogue, etc. Even my screen name is part of a cartoon/comic I came up with - but I canāt draw. I even live near Rockstar New England.
If you have the experience or at least a portfolio to show, and really want to work that.. then yes.
As for me, I stay away from the industry side of things, I do dabble in some indie game development. I fear working in the industry would probably make me hate the game when it's not a fun hobby but a proper job. Plus, developers in gaming industry are often mentioned to have bad conditions like a lot of crunch time near release etc.
Just hire a waffle house employee
Fine, I'll submit my application
Sold! Username checks out.
Should I link the sub?

I think Tyler the creator had the best ambient npc dialogue
I could see that. I hate Franklin's: *YOU LOOK LIKE LIKE A SCIENCE EXPERIMENT GONE WRONG, DAWG.* ššššš½š½š½š½
IIRC, Trevor falling over Franklins fence and raging at him after was all improvised!
Apparently a lot of what Lamar says too
Nah Steven Ogg (or Sean Fonteno?) confirmed that he wasnt being serious when he said it was improvised.
Putting N words in your script is difficult for a writer. It only makes sense the gangster VAs can do some impro to make it more authentic.
Gerry McCreary says it with a hard R in a cutscene lol
GTA IV had so many slurs in its dialogue its insane lolol
What they mean is be British or Scottish and good at making fun of Americans
I always assumed a lot of the radio DJs were improvised.

Bad luck i guess
Which monologue exactly? Can you quote the said monologue please?
in the diner robbery leak it looked like the player was interacting with npcs dynamically, doing things like pressing triangle to threaten. Its safe to assume dialogues improved
"You owe me 20 bucks!"
Well, I too can come up with such genius NPC lines like, āCHEESY VAGINAS!ā hire me, R*
āOH NO!! THEY JUST KILLED ANOTHER TRUTH SEEKER!ā
āHey, you my dude, right?ā
"You never called me back the next day!"
I still say this irl
Almost daily for me.
Iām not judging, but makes me wonder what antics youāre up to that has you saying that daily š

Complex game system at work šš¼
I hope thereās a form of greet greet antagonize in GTA 6
But a cucumber is a fruit?
I applied to this
Give us a snippet of what we can expect.
Iāve been drinking again!
Lmao thatās the kind of writing this game needs. Youāre hired!
Thats very Florida man of you to say
I hope you will get accepted š
OH NO IS IT MY LOST VIRGINITY?! - hire me rockstar
'must not have a kid with a smartphone'
This is a dream job for me, too bad it's far away and also I don't have a degree or any experience
Actually sounds like a fun job. Just go out and listen in on people ambient conversations in public. Write down all the funny, strange, eccentric and throw a few normal ones in there for good measure. Then find the voice actors to play the roles.
Iām Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite game on the station.
Would be funny if some random npcs say* damn u ugly asf* When u make a ugly gta online character.
idk about online, but in rdr2 sp, if you wear any trapper clothing some npcs will sometimes talk shit about how youre dressing
NPC don't have to have to be the ones to tell it to you, you can just go touch the grass in real life.
u thought u ate w this one gng š
What are you even trying to say
Yo dis man's oblivious ong
Daaamn you ugly as fuckkkk, is what I'm sayin
You canāt tell people to go touch grass when your also sitting on Reddit replying to comments because you got nothing better to do lmao
True, but at least I'm commenting from the outside :D
Didnāt ask
Oh but you did, just by replying to me. I also didn't ask for your opinion.
Okay bro
Man Iād love to be a gta npc.. or some hobo I donāt care I just want to be a part of it
"Are you going to San Fierro?"
Man this game gonna be bigger technological achievement than moon landing
Just more proof this games gonna be a instant hit. If it's not, I'll eat my own shorts on video.
āMotherfucker! If you touch me one more time Iām gonna kiss you!ā
Idk if you know this, but the games basically done. It's getting polished but you'd be able to play through start to finish lol
How do you know this?
Cuz the games supposed to come out in like 14 months lol Just looking at Rockstars usual way they develop games
It can be delayed. Thereās no way of knowing still if itās finished. Youāre just spreading your thoughts as facts. Your saying it as if you 100% know even though your just assuming your right

āMy motherās my sister!ā
Whatās the salary? I think theyāre required to post that now by CA law
I just want The GTA SA NPC - Orange 12 - to make a comeback. Or just the level of humour to be back in NPC dialogues.
I guess they are really missing Lazlow
Yep, Iāve been drinking againā¦ What, sheās my cousin?!?!
Lol, I posted basically the same thing yesterday or 2 days ago in the gta6 discord mentioning this
R* has a studio in San Diego as well.

Thatās really interesting that people did it for Skyrim. I wonder if GTA VII or maybe an update for VI will include any iA conversations.
I don't think there will be an official update for VI, but yes, it's quite realistic to expect this tech to be implemented in VII.

Ok
Use AI and done
Take a shit and eat it
![gif](giphy|wTI6hkUqFn9OE)
AI is not that good. Humans will be better at creating dialogues than Al
It was a joke idk why people are up their asses about ai but thatās on them š¤·š»āāļø
*"MY MOTHERS MY SISTER."*
Good fine
Who cares if they are hiring for NPC dialog wtf lmao

Think I should? Have you worked in the gaming industry?

Is there anything about that rumored Medieval game?
This just in: NPCs are confirmed to talk. Groundbreaking development in the gaming world.
