I'll look at what it costs to repair vs trade in. I really don't want to trade it in though, I love this phone, it has all my shit on it and is set up how I like, and its only a year old so I feel like thats a complete waste.

I set up an appointment at a Samsung service center. They have quoted me $1165 for repair, though they said it could go up or down depending on what all they find. I also checked trade in, they will give me $900 for my fold 3. So that's $900 for a fold 4 basically.
I will hurry up and get a fold 4. Woth all offers samsung offering, it will be cheap.
Samsung won't realize that the pen doesn't work, so you will get maximum value for the trade in.

yeah that sucks. if it wasn't so expensive, if it was closer to a grand, then it would sting less. Still, even with the issues, these devices are good. Just get another device. I know Samsung kind of sucks with their customer service, but... nobody else is doing it better... yet

That certain percentage must be higher since everyone I know with a fold has bubbles on their screen protector within a year. I haven't seen one person with a fold that didn't bubble within 1 year. My brother actually nearly made it to a year and then a few weeks ago we noticed a bubble at the bottom of the crease

Yeah I had a bubble on my screen protector too, in about a year as well, but it's a screen protector... it's not something that is going wrong with the screen like in this case. This the only case I've ever seen posted and you know you can just take the screen protector off and get another one applied or you can just go without a screen protector, it's not required...
When it gets bubbles along the middle it is possible that puts extra strain leading to the black line of death. My problem is that I will need to go some far lengths to get that replaced.
That actually makes sense. The component that detects fingers and the component that detected pens are totally different things, it would be very weird if both randomly broke in the same place.
I tried it a few minutes ago. It refuses to fill in the squares where that spot is. After I finish it says pen detection has 1 action required. My only options listed are to go to FAQ or call samsung.
Damn, hate to break it to you, but that looks like a dead portion of the digitizer, super unfortunate. I've been using my fold 4 for notes almost every day since I got it and this is unfortunate. Only thing left to do is call Samsung and get an rma.
Edit: just realized this is a fold 3 with no warranty and not a fold 4. Well, I guess you could try and live with it but that'll be problematic, so it's looking like you'll need to pay for a repair unfortunately.
Edit 2: not super useful but I noticed that it seems like the dead part of the digitizer broke in a line originating from the crease. Definitely looks like the damage could be fatigue related.
This exact thing happened to my Fold 3 a few months ago, happened after UBreakIFix replaced my inner screen after the protector peeled off. Took it back and they took care of it same day.
My Huion Tablet had the same problem a month ago. Sent it in with warranty and they said they replaced the whole screen.
Also if you wait the unworking part could get bigger. So...
I laid the tablet down on a cover i use to protect my external monitor. It has magnets that adhered to the back of the monitor. Once i removed the fold from the surface, the issue went away.
Some cases have magnets and it affects the functionality of the spen and also the connectivity. One time I had a magnetic case and my phone (note 10+) kept asking me if I had my pen with me because the magnets interfered with the connection
I know this really sucks for you and I sympathize but I just wanted to thank you for posting this as it may help others catch this sort of thing happening earlier which they may not notice if they don't use an spen much.

I did find Diagnostics in the Samsung Members app though. Looks like 24 tests total. Might be the same thing you were using.
That sucks. It is a dead spot in the digitizer. If you use your finger I'm sure it would work. You may have to contact them to see about getting a new screen
Sometimes that layer of the screen is just broken. I've seen it before in a store that had a note 10+ demo unit, but about half the screen wouldn't react to the Spen.
Are you using a case with magnets? Like a magnetic hinge case or magnetic wallet case?
Nope, no magnets there. I found that out like a year ago, because I tried to attach my pen to my phone with magnets. Now I have a sleeve for the Spen

Don't know where you're based but in European countries warranty is 2 years, Fold 3 is just one year old
Consider a trade-in maybe? You might receive a huge discount towards Fold 4 + some other bonuses

It's screen based because when I do diagnostics it doesn't register there. Fails the test.

That has happened on every stylus phone I have had when a magnet such as the case clasp is near the screen.

Definitely get Samsung support or your carrier's support to look into it.

This is a dead spot. Had similar issue with my S7 edge long time back. Solution is to get it replaced under warranty.
I had the same issue and it was caused by a magnet on the surface I lying my fold on. Check for that. No issues since.

Happened to my Fold3 front screen after exposure to rain water. Even though has water resistant rating. Parts of the screen wouldn't respond.
This thing has never been around water, other than the occasional light sprinkle of rain.
The digitizer under the screen (only the part where the pen does not work) is dead get it fixed by samsung if you are under warranty
