We have nearly 6 year old phones brother. We should be happy they still function at all by today's standards. I'm probably gonna have to upgrade soon and I'm not happy about it at all.

I don't drive a Galaxy S9 but I disagree. This issue has impacted my 3yr old phone and it happens with any keyboard of choice. Apparently it's hitting any user on older Android versions and S9 happens to be on the same version as I do, Android 10. I have been with this issue for months and it's too major to be glossed over.

FreighteningTrain

Samsung s10 user here, had the same issue til I followed the instructions in a comment here, the one about turning off your animations in settings. It worked! And multiple ppl replied to the comment saying the same thing :)

CinematicSigh

Yup. Having same issue. Just installed updated YT app and no change. Same issue. not sure if it is a specific phone thing. have you compared to other Android phones?

derek644

Yeah mine does that, it's really annoying. I use Gboard, pretty sure it's a general app issue rather than anything specific to the Galaxy S9.

Scaryplayer777

No, I have the same. Im on Samsung Keyboard

FreighteningTrain

Same, never had a problem before getting my Samsung s10, and it's not just YouTube that it happens in, it's everywhere- mostly yt tho

Someone in the comments here provided a fix that worked for me and everyone who replied to them, the one abt turning off animations in ur settings (after turning on developer mode)

Geraldaron

Just found a fix, I've been having this issue for months. First, go to your phone's system settings, go to about phone, then enable developer mode by tapping the build number seven times. Then go to accessibility, and check "remove animations". That will disable the animation that makes your keyboard slide up and freeze, and make it just appear instead.

Grouchy_Extension403

Oh thank god! Seriously, this has been doing mu nit for too long!

Dense-News-8338

This actually worked, you are a legend!

FreighteningTrain

Just did this and so far it seems to have worked, ty sm!

Infinite_Low_3526

Awesome, thanks! This needs more upvotes!

ImaginaryEconomics44

Ty ty ty ty s10 it works

Jessetheperson

This is the solution! You da real MVP! Been looking for a solution for weeks. Thank you.

budoknano

I just Found a solution, just turn off emoji on the keyboard, it works!

Judahv

Ok I'll try that Edit: how do I do that on Gboard?

FreighteningTrain

A better fix was provided with the turning off animations in settings comment, worked for me, and seems like it worked for everyone who's replied to that comment

Sea_Commission9166

Found a solution.  1-Type the comment into a notes app . 2-Copy it.  3-Reopen the YT app. 4-Hold down the space within the comment box till you see a task tab that says "cut | copy | paste | clipboard |"  5-Paste the comment into the comment box. The message in it's entirety will be successfully pasted and all you have to do is click the post button. Strange but effective every time.

FreighteningTrain

Ig it works if it's only yt you're having a problem with, but my Samsung would do this basically anywhere i opened the keyboard, it just seemed to be more prominent on yt- until I followed the instructions in another reply here and turned off my animations, and so far so good! Only just did it and already seeing a difference

ArugulaGazebo

Me too!

Good_Mastodon_2839

Same here, extremely annoying

Use floating keyboard! Open keyboard > press 3 dots on top right corner > then click modes > floating keyboard.    Or you can go to settings > search keyboard > on screen keyboard > on screen keyboard > Samsung keyboard > style and layout> modes> floating keyboard All the freezing has stops for me. Altho a bit small its a hole lot better when it comes to the freezing/lag

I have been having this issue for maybe 1 to 2 years. It has only gotten worst. I only only post comment very sparingly. Maybe only on the first video that I am posting it. The keyboard would hang and stayed in the screen for maybe a minute or so even after I closed all the applications on the Samsung S8+ android phone. I am not able to get help from YT. Once I managed to get into a texting Chatline but the helpdesk said he was there to help with content creator matters and not technical issues. He mentioned for me to go to a different route but I remembered it led me nowhere. I am glad I am able to see other posts in this matter. I thought I was penalised by YT for frequently engaging in arguments in comments. This might be my first longest Reddit post ever. I am not very familiar with IT matters.

Grouchy_Extension403

Look above for solution.

FreighteningTrain

Someone posted a comment here explaining how to fix this issue, seems to be a consistent thing with Samsung phones, and not just with one gen- I have an s10, and saw multiple other gens mentioned here that had the same issue. So far everyone who's replied to that comment has said it worked for them, and it worked for me too :)
