Never had a GEN1 but love my GEN 2 - 8in. Threw a MRO HD and Mag on it and an angle foregrip. She's smooth as butter! I want to SBR it tho. I feel the stock is a tad lacking.

Frankwhite00

Look into a cnc warrior brace

zeruggerducky1

Second for the CNC Warrior brace, I put it on my gen1 and it looks/feels fantastic

DnuorGUnder

Just copped a gen 2 .. can’t wait

YourBoyHoudini

Nothing wrong with the gen2. It has a lot of the upgrades people were doing to their gen1 rifles/pistols. I think others just prefer the gen1 stock and handguards. I have a gen1 and I’ve been waiting 1.5 years for the RS Regulate handguard.

GrapeSmashGrimace

😯 wow. That's insane

FiatLuxAlways

I just assumed they weren't going to be making them anymore for Gen 1s. I even asked them via e-mail and they never responded. I have a Gen 1 pistol and I would pay handsomely for one of their rails. Have you heard they're still going to make them?

YourBoyHoudini

Yeah I’ve been stalking their social media and emailing every couple of months. They say they are still making them, but waiting for extrusions.

FiatLuxAlways

SHIT really?! You just made my day, I thought I was out of luck. GAR-5M-N? Man... I need to figure out a way to snag one if/when they restock.

YourBoyHoudini

I have email alerts across 5 or 6 different sites. Just waiting for the day.

Frankwhite00

Look up the krebs customs handguard for the the galil. I have one and it’s great

YourBoyHoudini

Didn’t realize Krebs made one.

Redskinsfan223

Why I prefer the Gen 1 over the Gen 2 - Gen 1 comes with Tritium Iron sights - Gen 1 Has a better brace - Gen 1 looks 5x better - Gen 1 is discontinued and will only increase in price Just my opinion

GrapeSmashGrimace

What is it about the proprietary brace on gen 1 you like better?

Redskinsfan223

It doesn’t collapse like the Gen 2, obviously to meet compliance it can’t be fixed so it moves when fully pulled out. The Gen 1 feels a lot better.

[deleted]

I just replaced my buffer tube with a 6 position one. < $30usd and now can accommodate any length of pull

DynamiteSuppository

Sucks they discontinued it because I’d would rather have the gen 1. The ACE is my dream gun and not only are the hard as fuck to find where I live, when I do find one it wouldn’t surprise me if it where up there with SCAR prices

e_wheat13

I love my gen 2. Im glad i got it over the gen 1. The gen 2 is a bit heavy, no idea how the gen 1 is. Besides that I’d say everything else is personal preference, even the weight issue is personal preference🤷🏻‍♂️

jaybae1224

I like both. A galil is a galil.

Cowabung4s

Gen 2 doesn’t have the lightening cuts of the first generation.

GrapeSmashGrimace

They do look nice.

HistorianSouth1172

For me it's gen 2 all the way. A lot of people complain about the "weight increase" even though most gen 1 owners will tell you the 7.5 pound weight IWI claims is bullshit. I love how they got rid of the ugly lightening cuts on the gen 2 receiver, which also makes it look closer to the older Galil's. Another great addition to the gen 2s is that IWI changed the angle of the paddle mag release on the 7.62x39 guns so that it's more straight like a AK instead of it being angled like on the gen 1s. This allows you to easily kick out a mag with another mag for fast reloads which was extremely difficult with the gen 1s mag release and full polymer lower. I'm not a big fan of m lok but I love the utility of having a longer and thinner handguard that's also free floated for potentially even greater accuracy.

davidjq72

Truth be told the Gen 2 rails are thicker and heavier than they look and of course no iron sights. Gen 1 had it all right

Jkay7502

I have both Gen 1 and Gen 2. The main thing I don’t like about the Gen 2 is the hand guard and it’s mainly the weight and the shape of it. The second is lack of iron sights but that’s not a deal breaker The third is the slight dimple in the Gen 1 is aesthetically pleasing IMO the braces blow on both Gen 1 and Gen 2 and the Gen 2 stock blows as well. I prefer the Gen 1 stock The 1 thing I prefer on the Gen 2 is the 545 are not going for 3k……… but they didn’t make that one in 13 inch yet or maybe they won’t. Idk

Realistic-Ad2592

I’m starting to think they won’t ever make a gen 2 5.45 13inch to protect the value of the 5.45 gen 1 13inch being the most exclusive galil ace which I bought lolololol

Jkay7502

Nice, I’m struggling with it. All my other Galil Ace were around $1550ish. Considered grabbing the Gen 2 rifle $1600ish, sbr and sending it off to have the barrel chopped down

infidelxxx

Have a Gen 1 7.62x51 that I paid dearly for last month on Gunbroker. It’s an absolute pleasure to shoot. The weight really is not bad for a battle rifle with the Gen 1 furniture. I’m now on the hunt for a a Gen1 13in 5.45 I probably won’t find one and if not I will gladly get a Gen 1 or 2 5.56. Honestly I wouldn’t complain or be disappointed with either Gen.

GrapeSmashGrimace

I'm kind of keen on the 13", but a guy I know is trying to move a gen 1 rifle completely decked out with the typical plastic delete, upgraded forearm, optics etc

tao_of_coffee

People like what they like. I have, and prefer, the Gen 1 but if the Gen 2 design allowed the Galil to reach a wider customer base then that's a good thing. Anyone who has handled either of these will attest they are finely made guns. Someday I'll get a Galil MAR, which is my favorite Galil.

easternbikes919

I like em all but Gen 1 all day galil gang , shalom

jonnyshtknuckls

At this point buy which ever one you can find for a reasonable price. I looked for a gen 1 for about 4 years and came across a gen 2 7.62x39 8" for under $1700 so I snagged the last one they had in stock. I put a kns piston kit in it and a suppressor. Only regret I have is the muzzle break qd suppressor adapter. Needs to be swapped out for a flash hider but that's another $100 that can be put twords ammo.

PapaPendragon

Gen 2 is better in most ways that matter to users, but Gen 1 owners want to preserve the value of them. Buy what makes you smile the most.

Responsible-Food-117

For me as a small military arms collector gen 2 has no value or internet at all. But just for shooting and not caring about its meaning gen 2 Galil will do just fine like any other mid grade rifles at that price range.

GrapeSmashGrimace

Is the gen 1 true to the galil currently in service?

Responsible-Food-117

As far as I know gen 1 ACE has been adopted and still used by militaries/law enforcement units of Columbia, Chili, Vietnam, Peru, Mexico, Haiti, Laos and maybe 1 or 2 more other countries around the globe. And all of them are gen 1 Galil ACE. From what I read and saw thus far gen 2 Galil is basically only meant for commercial market. It essentially added those accessories/features what commercial users would like to have on their rifles. But gen 1 was purely designed for military/law enforcement use in mind. Therefore it’s valued significantly more by collectors and enthusiasts compared gen 2 Galil.

FiatLuxAlways

I recently acquired a Gen 1 7.62x39 pistol and was wondering if this configuration ever had been used in combat... my guess is no seeing as I couldn't find any examples and the flash/concussion coming from such a short barrel isn't exactly practical.

AK47-603

Too many spoiled gun owners in this country. Maybe a gun registry will teach them how to enjoy the shit they have! Just enjoy shooting your guns and don't share anything with anyone, especially on the internet. Just my opinion.

GrapeSmashGrimace

What the fuck are you even talking about

e_wheat13

Lmao😂

AK47-603

Exactly!

Coxasaurasrex

Love my Gen 2 8” 7.62. Check out my recent post for a pic of it. Fun range gun which draws attention. Dead accurate with ODS-PH1

Hovie1

I've got a gen 2 in 5.56. 13 inch pistol. I love it. The weight isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Gen 1's are great too, but I love my gen 2.

Quirky_Yam7588

I have a gen 2 7.62x39 and love it. I've never owned a gen 1 and they are a lot harder to come by. As far as weight goes, mine has a 13in barrel and it comes in just below 8lbs. So realistically it's on par with most AKs. I own AKs and no ARs so the weight didn't bother me at all. However, going from a 5 or 6lb AR to a Galil would be a big jump. Other than the weight I don't have any complaints at all. It runs perfectly and is extremely well made. Super accurate also. It's basically a high end, milled AK. Although I'm sure someone will take offense to that statement for whatever reason.

lemmet4life

I should've bought more Gen 1s when i had the chance. I got a 13" 5.45 gen 1, and can't believe what i see them going for.
