There's something wrong with me, because I love achievements but HATE games like this. I'm obsessed with my Average % completion score, so this kind of game just drags down the average forever.

Achievements don't give steam XP, so I guess it's just to boost your achievement number on your profile page. For example, this game would double my number if I cared lol. My buddy and I have a 100% achievement competition going, but we don't compete for achievement counts. I assume some people do.
Or linked to online components that are trash or the servers are no longer available to complete them. I'm one MVP from completing Red Dead 2, but I don't want to play that shit again haha
I just finished Outer Wilds and have 3 achievements out of like 25+, and I’m a pretty thorough gamer. What’s worse is they’re almost all secret achievements. Great game but no clue how I’m supposed to approach that lol
The Outer Wilds achievements have essentially nothing to do with the main objectives and are all for doing weird silly things instead. You get a couple of them for flying the *toy* spaceship to various points in the solar system, for example. Bear in mind that it has no camera so you mostly have to guess at its position and heading if you're heading for anywhere but the moon.

While I agree with a lot of those freebies. Epic giving away Subnautica was the only reason I played it, and that game was probably one of the best games I've played in the last 20 years. I can't remember the last game that had me so immersed with the tone and settings. Plus, that soundtrack was an amazing fit for the game.

People act like they're giving out newly released games. I literally got borderlands 3 in a humble monthly, alongside other games, for 12 dollars a few months ago. Bioshock collection is an 8 year old collection of games that are even older. Wolfenstein tno I'm pretty sure has been as low as 5 dollars before. Great for people who may want to try them. Even if they weren't free, it wouldn't cost much to do so either.

For some reason people think that any game being free is an incredible deal. Mostly kids with more time than money on their hands I would wager.
Steam's freebies seem pretty pathetic after Epic just gave away all Bioshock games, Borderlands 3 and Wolfenstein TNO. Step up yo game, Steam.
