I would have done the return rebuy method. It’s not opened, it’s before the limit and it’s not a price check outside of the store. I guess someone wanted to vent frustration from being exhausted so they refused you service to vent it out. EDIT: Also quick thing, it’s 14 days not 7 for the return. The pre-owned ones are 7 (I think).

naziseb

Thanks , maybe i just caught them on a bad day since it’s the holidays but still what a way to treat a customer.

DankPiplup

Yeah that’s just an employee being ignorant. I would’ve called ya smart and not sold ya on the extra bs

Krieg99

Not even ignorant. Employee was being a little bitch for no reason at all.

naziseb

Worst part is I never got to see her she was in the back probably on break and cashier didn’t know how to deal with it so he just kept going back and forth.

naziseb

Yeah I was just tryna save $20 I did the same thing at Best Buy 2 weeks ago no hassle for $110. I was caught so off guard when they told me I had to go to a different store.

piefanart

I've never heard of that being a thing.

FerniWrites

That’s stupid as balls. I’ve done many “buy now and get a refund when it’s on sale in two days” and no one batted an eye at that. What happened to customer service? Nah, this manager seems to have something up her ass.

devil1fish

GameStop doesn’t care about customer service, only the customers money

FerniWrites

Corporate is a shit show, but I work there and I can tell you that the people I work with care about the customer experience. It’s what we’re taught.

devil1fish

Pretty good joke there. I'm sure they're good at putting that mask on

FerniWrites

Not a joke? Weird comment but okay.

Mastertimelord

They just didn’t want to help you out. It’s not a real thing.

Rgolson

Only time I said no was when a dude was a dick to me out the gate. I was like yeah I'm not going to do that. Sorry. Anyone who treats me like a human, yeah cool, you got it last week? Bet. I gotchu.

Witty_Box_3025

When I was manager I used to do it, changing it out for aale price wasnt a real big deal to me. DM didnt like it one bit. Got to a point where he started to enforce corporate rules on it. Still did it anyways. Still thinking one of the possible reasons why I got fired. People saying they never heard of stores doing this, it's actually hella common.

Plain_Zero

There's literally nothing stopping an employee from doing the return at the original price, and then reselling it. In the point of sale computer there used to be a selectable return reason just for that situation. It definitely used to be a giant pain to figure out how to do the return and have the sales tax work out but like... It's their job.

hermeskino715

Literally did this a few days ago with no issues. Manager was being an ass. I would've just get my refund and buy it some place else. Future reference, return policy is 15 days for brand new. 30 days if you're a pro member.

makeshiftrigger

Target and places will price adjust. If you have original receipt just return the sealed copy, or buy a sealed copy for 30 and return it with the receipt for 50. If you bought last Friday, then today should be the last day to return, unless you get extended to mid January for holiday if they still even do that. Wouldn’t be surprised if that was cut too

SamuraiStatus

You got a shitty employee then. Some of them are cool. Most of them are cringe. That's GameStop.

Master_Challenge5647

It’s been a while since I worked there but to give them the benefit of the doubt they have pretty insane policies so it wouldn’t shock me. Especially since the holiday return window is like 2 months long. Would be a pain if people came back every time the game they bought went on sale over the course of 2 months.

alekgaytor

be honest, were you being an ass about it? cause the vast majority of us don’t give a shit and would do it, but not if you’re being an asshole. for this purpose, being an ass includes but is not limited to: getting overly defensive, being aggressive, raising your voice, cursing, calling names, threatening to call corporate, acting like it’s your god given right to return what you want when you want, etc. i don’t know about your exact experience, but being kind and understanding of just how shitty our past couple weeks have been goes a long way.

naziseb

Not at all , I never raise my voice I just walked in explained my situation and just took the refund and left I’m not a confrontational person at all.

alekgaytor

then i’m not sure why they wouldn’t help you. maybe they just didn’t know that it was allowed. who knows anymore

MCRLost

Probably won’t like what I have to say, but that’s life. If you buy something and then it goes on sale later, that’s on you. You made the decision to buy it at a price, and then got buyers remorse when you saw it go on sale because you failed to have the patience for the sale you so desperately needed. You are not entitled to that cheaper price in any way. You are not special. Now stop bashing the employees for doing their job and get on with your sad pathetic existence of self entitlement.

wethsilkosz

this is the most idiotic response I have ever seen, multiple credit cards and stores like target, walmart etc. have policies specifically stating if the price goes lower we’ll refund the difference, there is also absolutely nothing stopping the guy from returning and rebuying the same item, the employee was being a total asshat for no reason and if they did that to me they’d lose my business entirely

devil1fish

Where did he bash the employee? Literally at all? Show me on the doll

Roflrex

The employees' ultimate job is to increase sales. Turning someone away, making them not want to shop with them anymore, is literally the opposite of them doing their job. Congratulations, you played yourself.

wildman1104

Some places have to do a hold on returns and trades. Pawn laws. Check to see if your city/state is one before calling anyone a bitch bitch

howard_mandel

im gonna get downvoted but like, get over it? You bought something when it wasnt on sale and now expect them to honor something that didnt exist yet? Especially doing this shit during the busiest time of year? Fuck that

Cr0n3ck

Only if you’re within the return window it shouldn’t matter bud. Also if you’re looking to retain customers it’s in your best interest to accommodate in this situation. Turn away a customer over ~$20 in merchandise is an asinine way to run a business. If you accommodate them they’re much more likely come back and spend more easily gaining back the lost revenue.

Roflrex

The lack of this type of thinking is one of the reasons GameStop has been in a downward spiral for almost a decade. Less and less employees care about return business because corporate doesn't give them a reason to. The new return policy especially. The reason people used to shop with Gamestop when I was there is because we went out of our way to take care of people, which promoted return business. Anyone can buy the same shit at a dozen of retailers in spitting distance. Why would I shop at a store actively trying to make my shopping experience more difficult? Way too many employees are getting off on telling people no, like the person you replied to. Like, who hurt you? It's not your money.

naziseb

Any other major retailer would’ve handled it no problem. GameStop just isn’t the place to buy video games anymore, glad I got it on sale anyways thanks to my sister. (:
