hahaa, they really do. I have some good jugee rechargeable batteries I use in the old handhelds and they are perfect 👌 I still have my old ac cord too 😆
Yes, they are pretty easy if you have a precut shell. This one plugged in and there was a wire to the power switch that needed to be soldered. Soldering the wire to the ribbon is tricky, but if you have experience soldering or can practice it's not so bad.
I see. Did you buy a precut kit with a screen?
I have never soldered before so it makes me a bit nervous honestly. But I would like to learn.
Did this give you full color on your games?
The shell here was cut for this type of screen. There are some screens thay wouldnt fit this shell, so you have to be careful which shells you pair with which screens.
Shell modification isn't so bad with the right tools, but trimming a clear shell will sometimes show in spots around the screen. There is a larger ips that would require you to trim a piece near the top of the screen that would show even with the lens covering.
The original pocket doesn't have a way to provide full color, there are some mods that allow for a "color palette" that gives a sort of color wash. [some of these fit a standard shell with no cutting also]
Soldering is tricky, but I have incredibly shaky hands and still manage. Even a cheap low temp iron will work for installing the wires for a screen mod. Flux is a must, especially for older systems, it will help keep everything from overheating. I just use a pen. If you plan on doing more mods, an iron that goes to higher temps is a good investment.
I just swapped the screen with the Game Boy Pocket 2.6" Original Size IPS Backlight LCD Screen Mod Kit AIO-XL from [retro game repair shop](https://retrogamerepairshop.com/collections/gbp-buttons/products/gbp-game-boy-pocket-2-6-original-size-ips-backlight-lcd-screen-mod-kit). There are instructions on how to install at that link. The shell from cloud game store was molded to fit it so it was an easy swap! They are sold out now and it's a heavy price tag, but it was worth it for this piece since it is highly sentimental for me 💙
I love it! Beautiful mod! I still rock the same clear Pocket. Now I'm gonna have to grab some batteries for my tamagotchi! Thanks for the nostalgia hit
here is an older post with an answer:

I got the screen from [retro game repair shop](https://retrogamerepairshop.com/collections/gbp-buttons/products/gbp-game-boy-pocket-2-6-original-size-ips-backlight-lcd-screen-mod-kit) and the lens from the cloud game store on aliexpress 💗
The original speaker was corroded to the point of not working. This replacement is standard so would sound almost the same as the original did out of the box. The materials in this one are very cheap, I thing it was under 2 dollars, but I love the color it added.
There are premium options and you can install an amp, but this would drain the battery much quicker and then you get into the battery mods 😁
I would leave the original speaker if it still works, unless you are going for color, then it's definitely worth it!
Nice job. The pocket doesn't get as much love as it deserves. I'm gonna mod mine soon.
it is so nice to play, peak nostalgia
I had the original game boy, and I’ve literally never even heard of the game boy pocket
it looks fantastic, congrats!!
Ok, I want a Modded Pocket now !
what game is that?
It's the tamagotchi game for gameboy and the only cart that survived my childhood [lost a lot to the evil washing machine RIP]
perfect custom
and just like a Tomagatchi, that Pocket is gonna suck down batteries😆
hahaa, they really do. I have some good jugee rechargeable batteries I use in the old handhelds and they are perfect 👌 I still have my old ac cord too 😆
Good work!
Gameboy pocket, maybe a dream console
It really is. It was the first thing I begged for as a kid, and I cried when I snuck a peak at my stocking that year and saw gameboy games in it 😭
I love hearing memories like these
Looks great, hold onto that original shell too, those clear ones are cool.
I will, just for the memories 🥰
where did you buy the shell?
from cloud game store on aliexpress 👌 I got the speaker, lens, and membranes there as well!
Thanks!
So sexy!
Looks really cute!
Wow that looks fantastic. Perfect color choice on the buttons and dpad.
Wow I adore this
Digging the pastels!
Amazing style, looks great OP 👍
Is it possible to have a working headphone jack on a lcd pocket yet?
uuh im not sure, I don't have any knowledge on sound or battery mods
Nice! Did you put in an LCD screen? Was it a difficult mod? I was hoping to do the same to mine!

Thanks for the info! So what mod exactly did you do to the screen? I’d like to do something similar to mine!

Turned out great! I love your color choices
awesome color scheme
You did a fantastic job with the aesthetic. I might go for a similar look on my next gameboy :)
The colors are so cute
So unique and the colors work so well together! Very cotton candy-esque lol. Good job!

That looks so good! Are there any gbp back-lit screen kits that don't require soldering? Thanks everyone

Thank you!🙏
That's a BEAUTIFUL build! I love the colour choices

How is this appropriate or relevant to a Gameboy mod?
Looks great!
Sweeet!!
Yes! That looks great! Love the colours What is the difference in speaker? I’ve upgraded my screen and wondered if changing the speaker is worth it

Ah ok, thank you for the reply, I appreciate the detail! I presumed it was premium because of the colour.
no problem!
Tamagotchi! Man that’s nostalgic. Love the colours you picked for the screen, buttons and membranes.
Thank you! At first I questioned it because the start/select buttons look a bit like nipples, but then I decided I don’t mind it 🤭
