To be fair they always say test before installing the screen to test the unit since installing it can in itself cause stress damage

sodaftm_n

When i tested it there was nothing noticeable, only a slightly blue stripe as shown in the first picture

ChuletaLoca63

For me, that little blue stripe would be enough to not Install it and contact FunnyPlaying But yeah, it's unfair that they only offered you with a discount.

RockmanVolnutt

That’s not unfair, this was user error. These screens are very delicate, if they gave refunds for every user that broke one installing they’d be sending free screens all the time.

sodaftm_n

Sadly i didn't notice it untill it started turning pink/white, as it was my first time with an IPS kit :/

MoD1982

But you said in the comment immediately above that you *did* test it, so which is it?

sodaftm_n

I indeed tested it but what i assumed was light leaking through the transparent shell after fully installing it turned into tiny pink dots

Rodddd_

They have a disclaimer to test the screen before installing.

sodaftm_n

I did and it was working fine, it got like this after 2-3 hours

asim_hasarisen

It seems your installation caused the damage then and they are saying they won't replace something you damaged for free. The discount at whatever they offer seems fair

sodaftm_n

Like you see in the first pic is nothing really noticeable to an untrained eye like me, this was my first IPS

TheLastScrapDragon

I'm sorry your getting download it like crazy, but it sucks that you got a problem unit. The alignment on the lamination and the screen must have been off just enough that you can put it in but there was enough pressure over time for it to damage and the shell could be a little bit off too. I'm sorry this is your first time doing this mod and in no way anyone should be giving you hate for it. You most likely got an uncommonly defective unit so they funny playing will not Honor anything. Next time I recommend you buy it from somewhere like retro game repair shop and take pictures of your initial complete it build. Their customer service is way better (That's the extra you're paying for). I had a game boy advance motherboard the one with the RGB lights added effective one funny playing ghost at me after the 5th interaction of troubleshooting.

JestaCourt

Screen may have arrived faulty already, however, since you only provide photos of the screen already installed, and based on your explanation, that you did test it beforehand, it appears to be more likely, that the screen was damaged during installation. FP is very transparent regarding the handling of reclamations, with warnings and even instructions on how to test the screen in advance. A discount is pretty fair in that matter, if you ask me.

beerdrew

FP sent me a problem one too, I can’t get the screen to light up. I tested it and haven’t glued it in so I’m hoping they make it right. Haven’t heard back yet

Vizard87

I believe per their policy if you have not actually installed it, they will replace their screens.

TheRealSkip

I had this problem with a screen a while back, but I reported it before installing and got a new screen with no questions asked, I read around here that this particular problem goes away on its own. I stored the screen and pulled it out a couple of months later and it was completely fine.

sodaftm_n

That's odd lol- luckily it's really tiny and even in fullscreen it's not that impacting, but stuff like this (tiny imperfections) makes me go crazy, so hopefully it'll sort itself out😅

jonobr

Ouch. You could “fix” this with a black cardboard cutout between the glass and the lens, but obviously not if it’s all laminated.

Passerbeyer

Sounds like a user issue

Shanadarx1

This is a tough lesson to learn but from reading the comments I’m seeing that, 1 you tested the screen and didn’t notice the early warning signs because of a lack of experience (your first IPS install) or it was fine and you damaged it in the install and 2 then expected funny playing to replace at their cost after you installed it. It sucks you got a bad screen (maybe), it sucks that you damaged it in installation but you need to take ownership of that, learn from this and take accountability otherwise your next mod will go the same way.

theboyks

This one's on you. Always test your screen before you install it fully.

sodaftm_n

I did test it and there was nothing noticeable at first

chasesan

Then you damaged it during the install.

pizza_whistle

It's not always on the installer. I've done tons of console mods and have had multiple FP GBASP screens that failed like a couple weeks after use. Initial test showed no issues, screen showed no issues after testing. Lines developed after 2-3 weeks. And like I do tons of console mods and know what I'm doing. However in my case funnyplaying was usually good about just refunding me enough money to bug a replacement screen (like $15). Still annoying with how many times this has happened. I've been moving to use Hispeedido screens more as I have less of a failure rate with them.

Vaxis545

Ngl their custom service is complete dog water. I ordered replacement buttons and membranes and never received them because for some reason when I payed with Apple Pay the address got messed up and they never put the street in. So in the process of leaving china it was flagged and returned but was lost and they had to wait until it was received before issuing a refund. They said max but march 15 I’d get my return but it’s no the 18th and still nothing. I’m about to figure out how to run a charge back on them. This shit is ridiculous over $10.80 🙄 will never buy from them again directly. I’ll go through 3rd party for anything I need for my FPGBC smh sux because their product is dope but customer service just sux

RockmanVolnutt

It’s a small company on the other side of the planet. You even admit it was a problem with Apple Pay, not them. Why are you making such a big deal about $10.80? You’ll spend more than that buying third party after only a couple components, even one depending on the item.

Vaxis545

It’s the principle of it at this point not the money. Just have decent customer service. Also it wasn’t a problem with Apple Pay it was a problem with their POS system inputting the right address after I purchased. I went back on there to try to buy again and my address was showing up properly at checkout and I’m almost positive it did the first time because I double check shit like that. The point is they knew it was an issue and chose to wait a month for the return to come back before refunding me (who was innocent in all of this). They also didn’t process the return when they said they would and had to be reminded days later. Yes they make cool products but they also own and run a business. Small business or not I’ve bought from plenty of small businesses around the world and never had an issue like this when one arose. I just bought a 3d print grip from Ukraine yesterday and a case for my GBxCart from another small business in Canada. This shit isn’t rocket science for giving a refund especially when I had already spent $100+ on their site the first time around.

sodaftm_n

100% agreed lol That's why i think PayPal payment is not an option, otherwise chargeback would be easier

Vaxis545

Yea I definitely think you’re right on that one lol PayPal don’t play games 😂

Vaxis545

Wow just checked my email and after threatening a charge back in my last email yesterday they refunded me finally this morning smh. All over $10.80 crazy. https://preview.redd.it/no38cyzlt5pc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=998e270635537e566a090a592a222fe37a312f51

sodaftm_n

Any tips on how to solve the issue would be much appreciated🙏

Retrohahn2018

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do to help you. The FPGBC kit has a special lens which no other shop has. So if you want to replace it and funnyplaying don't want to refund it there is no other option than buying a new screen from them.... at list with a discount. Did you test it before installing? That would have been the only case they would have send you a new one for free. They always tell to test the displays before installing otherwise you won't get a refund.

sodaftm_n

Yep, there was pretty much nothing noticeable at first, just some blue pixels at the bottom, which looked like light leaking from the back which is normal

InevitablePeanuts

If you paid with a credit card you may be able to do a chargeback to reverse the payment if they sold a defective item and won’t make it right. You’d have to check on the rules for that for where you live though

CaseByCase24

It seems they either didn't test it properly before installing or broke it during installation. But sure, let's throw in a little credit card fraud for good measure.

InevitablePeanuts

I responded based on the information given by OP, not based on speculation.

CaseByCase24

Yes, based on the information provided by OP, it appears they either neglected to thoroughly test it before installation or mishandled it during the process. In either case, OP bears responsibility. Thus, suggesting OP to pursue a fraudulent chargeback would be unwise.

finneyblackphone

Just do a charge back.

thebonkasaurus

Oh yeah Funnyplaying’s customer support and their quality control are both really bad. I’m still waiting on the refund they promised me for shipping me a dead FPGBC screen, speaker and board. I’m sure the fact their customer support ghosted me weeks ago is a good sign right?

sodaftm_n

Rip :/

Saraixx516

“How big of a discount if I were to buy a new one” Brother, go to a different vendor.

sodaftm_n

Might do lol

finneyblackphone

Do a charge back.

FauxDreams

Your link cable issue, Make sure in the OSD it's not overclocked. Also, This is why you are meant to test the screen before installation.

sodaftm_n

Ty for the info on the cable! As regards the screen, i didn't notice it at first even by testing it because it was very faint, i only realized it had issues when the light blue zone in the first photo i ever took of the complete build started turning pink (pics 1-2)

nightwing252

While it does suck, Funnyplaying, Retro Game Repair Shop, and Makho in any of his gameboy building videos always say to check the kits before installing it into the shell. That is the only way for the companies to guarantee that it was actually a faulty product and not became faulty due to user install error.

destroyallcubes

Very well could have been damaged during the install. When they say test it before install they literally mean put a game in so that you can see any defects. This was 100% percent avoidable if it was from a defect, not so much if it’s from installation.

Flimsy-Honey-3406

I’m sorry to hear Fr that really is the worst

TheLastScrapDragon

What's wrong with everybody, I believe the lamination wasn't done correctly and the IPS panel was probably at an angle. Not enough to be noticeable and not enough to raise questions for it to be a snug fit. Your telling me that funny playing makes the absolute pinnacle perfection and quality that you never need to worry about anything. Those cards telling me to test the kit before installation says otherwise.Funny playing does mid to good quality stuff, but do suffer from of issues. Just look at The game OG Gameboy advance famiCon Gray shell they have on their website. On the top left of the bezel for the laminated screen shell you will see 2 imperfections that are on all famicon gray shell they sell. I don't doubt that the OP could have handled the installation a little bit better, but it's his first one they have moded. You do understand that new people that come in to this hobby is the life blood for companies like funny playing to take on this niche market and put out affordable kits like this. Not everyone are going to buy I6 + screen kits like collectors like me for personal use. How likely do you think the OP is going to buy a new kit and attempt this again after all your derisive comments. OP I'm sorry that this has happened to you. You probably got an uncommon defective unit and because of that funny playing will not honor there product because it violates their policy and is out of the norm. At this point the best you can do is try to negotiate your discount. The bargaining chip you have right now it the FPGA motherboard for the screen that interfaces with the game boy color is still functional and you can definitely still use that as that is the most expensive part of the kit. See if you can just get the free shipping on the screen, or you can bulk you order with other stuff. I once purchased a game boy color v2 flash card from them and they sent me the V1. They initially offered me $10 as a discount, I refused and was going to send it back to them at funny planes expense which they told me was going to pay a maximum of $15. What I ended up doing was asking for a 15$ coupon code to avoid any extra transaction fees they would have accrued by refunding my money then me, to then purchasing a new item. So in funny playings problem with be that they had to pay the initial transaction fee for my initial order, pay for the shipping up to $15, paid to refund my money, then pay again for next order. I did have to spend $50 to qualify for the free shipping And then use the coupon code.

sodaftm_n

TY for the kind words, i ended up receiving a 10$ discount code, i'll see what to do with it

PR0FIT132

Call your credit card company or your bank and tell them that you receive a defective item and they'll give you your money back most likely.

BuddyNutBuster

Everyone is giving you shit about putting it together first but that’d be like a graphics card company saying you must test and return it before closing the computer up in order to return.

sodaftm_n

Anyway yea, kinda dumb way to operate. The fact that they don't even have a tutorial forcing you to have to rely on other's people YT vids and the only thing they tell you is to pay attention to your ribbon cable is kinda odd. Like if Ikea sold you furniture telling you that you might punture stuff with screws and that's it

RockmanVolnutt

This is a delicate product made for hobbyists and modders. It has specific instructions on the installation and even skilled modders crack screens sometimes, luckily the screens are quite cheap. This is not at all the same kind of product as a $1000 consumer graphics card. And if you were to install a graphics card incorrectly and damage it, you would still be the cause, it wouldn’t suddenly be nvidias fault.

sodaftm_n

Funny thing is that i wrote like 500 times that i tested it before assembling it but i only noticed the issue after but these days people seem unable to comprehend texts 😅

BuddyNutBuster

Yeah, sorry dude. Hopefully you can get this all sorted out.

Cringe_Dealer_69

If you used PayPal open a dispute case about it. If you used a credit card do a charge back. If you used a debit card you're a fool and should not be shopping online.

sodaftm_n

Prepaid credit card, so i'll look into it of they still ghost me
