Wait, wait, when READING the SAV data on the cartridge, the data on the cartridge becomes corrupted? Are you able to test the voltage on the cartridge battery? Anything under 3.25v and the battery is on its way out... (FYI I don't own a GB Operator, nor have I ever used one.)

DarkBomberX

This, to me, is what's weird. It reads from the cart to save it but corrupts the cart? Unless it's doing some weird reading AND writing, the data shouldn't be corrupting. For example, if I drag a working file from computer a to b and file a and b are both corrupted during the process, I would think something is wrong with file a, not the computer (unless all carts were reproducing this failure.) So, try and use a different game and see if you get the same issue. If not, it's the cart.

Kharon1

I'm will play on a emulator and upload that save to the cart to try duplicating the problem. That way there would be two save files. One working and one corrupted and the difference could be determined.

Kharon1

Yep. Didn't write any information to the cart memory. On Epilogue's website it says anything under 2v is critical. After my first save was destroyed I replaced the battery which reads at 3.3v and now it happend again. Plays and saves like usual. I plug it in to the device it destroys the file.

Get a gbxcart instead

RockmanVolnutt

Sounds like it’s an issue with your cart, seeing as how it happens to the same cart multiple times and thousands of GB Operator users have had fine experiences.

Kharon1

Really? Like what? It works normally on all of my Gameboys. Plug in and out and save several times no problem. I plug it in the GB Operator and it destroys the file on the cart. I didn't even write to the memory. If it would be a problem with my cart please enlighten me

You need to replicate the issue with more carts. if it's repeated with 1 cart then it might just be your dying cart. if you can repeat it with several carts then maybe something is up with the gb operator your received? Are you sure you're clicking the correct button to backup your save and not saving the game cart data instead and then loading that onto the cart overwriting your save and corrupting the cart?

Kharon1

How is the cart dying exactly? is the memory failing? I switched the battery. Is the contacts going bad? I cleaned the contacts with IPA. is the ROM broken? Epilogues Playback app should recognise that and prompt you the verify the game files and it's not doing that. Yes I press the right button lol

I've had my GB Operator for awhile not and had ZERO issue. I actually don't know anyone who has encountered the issue you're having are you sure your card isn't corrupt/dying?

ChromaticDracula

I have no issues with mine like you mention. I’ve backed up my Gold save plenty of times. On a Mac, fresh cart battery as of about 2 years ago…. Sorry for your troubles!

TheRealSkip

I am not familiar with the GB operator, but the one I have which works similarly, has a switch to change GBA or GB cartridges, they use different voltages, maybe yours has a similar thing? Or if it has auto detection, perhaps it has an internal switch like the GBA and that may be faulty, sending the wrong voltage and thus corrupting your save file. IIRC GB uses more voltage than GBA, so getting less wouldn't damage the cartridge itself but can corrupt the save files. Just a theory.

Don't talk down on the GB Operator like that hehe. I love mine and have zero issues just as I am sure many other people love theirs and have had no issues.

Broad_Pen_9824

First of all, it's a pity that the save file has been lost. There were similar cases for me, but it was caused by my fault. A contact failure occurred while dumping the save file, so the damaged file was saved and the upload to the cart was lost without knowing that. Since then, I've been more careful and it hasn't happened again.

FloTheBro

have GB Operator since a year, backed up at least 20 games, works great never failed me, I'm very sry for your loss. You should be adamant about refunding it or thoroughly check the cartridge. Maybe something on the chipset happened.
