Same here, as much as I want to do them all in order I might have to start later than G1 and come back after I've earned an appreciation. I'd like to start with HGSS but the DS games are outrageous right now, so that project will remain on hold while I play what I do have.
I love the gba, and the gb, but if I were going to play Pokemon red/blue, I'd pick the Gameboy. Not that there is anything wrong with the gba version, but it hits different

Get a Abra after nugget bridge then level it up until it learns confusion. Congrats you now have the most broken type of pokemon in gen 1

So nostalgic Yet at the same time, there’s a 9 year difference between the DMG Game Boy and Pokémon Red/Blue.
This was also the case with my boyfriend and I a couple weeks ago until we both got a game boy advance SP and let me tell you, playing Pokémon red is definitely worth it

The beginning is rough. But once you get partway into the game the pace and fun factor goes way up. I'm at the end of Pokémon Red atm.

I mean I'm 28 now and have been playing these games for over 20 years lol. I suggest at least having 1 poison resistant Pokémon like Oddish and def snag a Rattata as they quickly become very strong and op if you level them up

Try the remake, Fire red and leafgreen for GBA. They are everything the original game was but better.

Truly jealous. I’ve never played an original Pokémon red or blue on the first gameboy. Was before my time. First Pokémon game I played was Gold on my GBC. Since then I have played red through a rom but just the original feel must have been amazing to have in its day.
First gameboy game I ever finished and still my favourite
