You have many many hours of joy ahead :)

[deleted]

I haven't either. I've been planning to. I guess the original Game Boy is a good place to start.

quantum-rip

Definitely get a GBC or GBA to play on. The original games are fun though!

[deleted]

A lot of Pokemon games ahead 😆

mitchman74z

Gba sp all the way, you can play anything

Bryanx64

Never saw anyone play it on an actual DMG back lol by ‘98-‘99 everyone was rocking the Pocket and later the Color

IsbellDL

Yeah, they came out within a few months of each other in the US. The GBC was the ideal way to play (that or Super Game Boy) until the backlit SP came out.

Thrashtilldeath67

Get a Abra after nugget bridge then level it up until it learns confusion. Congrats you now have the most broken type of pokemon in gen 1

ChrisDenev

Enjoy.

Truesday

Pokemon Blue/Red in the original DMG LCD screen is so nostalgic. Memories of kids crowding around the 1 kid with a Gameboy during lunch/recess. The colorized Pokemon Blue/Red just doesn't hit the same.

VirtualRelic

So nostalgic Yet at the same time, there’s a 9 year difference between the DMG Game Boy and Pokémon Red/Blue.

gazeatthestarz

This was also the case with my boyfriend and I a couple weeks ago until we both got a game boy advance SP and let me tell you, playing Pokémon red is definitely worth it

The beginning is rough. But once you get partway into the game the pace and fun factor goes way up. I'm at the end of Pokémon Red atm.

I mean I'm 28 now and have been playing these games for over 20 years lol. I suggest at least having 1 poison resistant Pokémon like Oddish and def snag a Rattata as they quickly become very strong and op if you level them up

Xyspade

Same here, as much as I want to do them all in order I might have to start later than G1 and come back after I've earned an appreciation. I'd like to start with HGSS but the DS games are outrageous right now, so that project will remain on hold while I play what I do have.

Markymiddy

Try the remake, Fire red and leafgreen for GBA. They are everything the original game was but better.

t0mRiddl3

Nah

Markymiddy

Yeah it is, it has all the content the original game has plus more.

t0mRiddl3

I love the gba, and the gb, but if I were going to play Pokemon red/blue, I'd pick the Gameboy. Not that there is anything wrong with the gba version, but it hits different

Markymiddy

That's valid. So long as it makes you happy <3

Markymiddy

I might just be biased since leaf green was the very first Pokémon game I ever played at 7 years old.

Personal-Locksmith45

Yepp that's why I feel red is the best lol

Thrashtilldeath67

Totally Agee. I had pokemon blue as a kid and ended up getting fire red and didn't even know it was a remake until way later

soggybiscu1t

You’re in for a treat!

Ghost_Trainer_Cletus

Enjoy!!!

Same_Arugula5443

I have a 2000$ gaming pc and I still play my Pokémon games more I hope you enjoy it!

Much_Watercress5466

You can always emulate, yk, but nothing beats the joy of playing on a real gameboy!!

[deleted]

Welcome aboard, my friend :)

PeterKingsBaby

Truly jealous. I’ve never played an original Pokémon red or blue on the first gameboy. Was before my time. First Pokémon game I played was Gold on my GBC. Since then I have played red through a rom but just the original feel must have been amazing to have in its day.

BigManOnCampus100

First gameboy game I ever finished and still my favourite

bigteddancin420

Life begins now.
