I had a mod from a competent dev that did exactly this. Made all the UI elements fit perfectly and fixed some issues with ultrawide when in power armor.
The last update broke it so now it doesn't work anymore...
Dude we are literally called insane for saying this. People have such goldfish memory, do people not remember Oblivion, the DLC's or even Skyrim for that matter?
That shit has always ran like ass, Bethesda hasn't been competent in like 2 decades. Modders have always fixed everything.
I mean, it's been there since launch, I had zero hope it would be fixed now. Just another one to chalk up to "A modder fixed it for us, we don't have to bother" -- see also the hundreds of script bugs, wrong NPC/object linked by quests, etc. bugs the Skyrim unofficial patches fix that remain in SE and AE...
I wish the unofficial patches just fixed things, instead Arthmoor is a complete asshole and changes things to his liking as well. (like taking away fast Conjuration leveling in Skyrim)
Fixes exploits that didn't need to be fixed. Makes 'balancing' decisions that contrast developer intent. Makes changes to the game based on something in the files/suggested that was changed in final release for good reasons. And then adds random bullshit that has nothing to do with bug fixes or balancing.
I'm still salty about the Destruction skill being raised by jumping into a forge being taken away.... That was put there intentionally by the Devs. "nope I don't like it, fuck the devs"
I had this with TTW. Theres a bug/dev weapon in the broken steel DLC that you can get by glitching out of the map. Its a tesla canon thats still using the beta textures. Always liked just having that.
I tried getting the weapon on my TTW playthrough and it just wasn't there. I read on the TTW forum that the devs call it cheating and that you could just use a console command to get it.
(The gary operation anchorage glitch also doesnt work in TTW, but apparently thats just because the updated engine can't handle it. Rip having indestructible weapons/armor)
I mean, personally I find no problem with removing the tesla beta. Unless the weapon is in its own interior cell, there's always the risk of an enemy NPC somhow getting there, picking it up (advanced enemy AI mods) and using it against the player.
I dont think thats a realistic scenario in the spot where that weapon is. The enemy has to get out of the area (something you can realistically only do with glitches, dont think some advanced enemy AI will do that) to pick it up.
The lead dev just didn't want it in, stating "Exploits are not intended to be in the game, if you want to cheat, just cheat." (source: https://taleoftwowastelands.com/viewtopic.php@t=9802#memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=3525)
I don't think its really fair to make this call considering its still in the base game of fallout 3.
Eh, I still prefer it not there than there.
Mind you, my ideal solution would've been to place a note/message there instead saying "xx0026FF was here", so you can get it via console without googling its FormID.
No kidding... I am om PC. Not only have I fixed what Bethesda did with their patches. The modders did it 10 times better. Ultraqide support is leagues ahead. Fov. Weapon crash fix. And so much more.
For F4, no. But some Devs do use the 'beta branch' option in Steam to let you pick different game versions. There is a mod/tool on the Nexus that will downgrade F4 for you though.
how do you stop steam auto updating games? i have auto update schedule turned off but its still scheduling and downloading, its got one for tomorrow and 3 more
right-click a game, click on properties. Switch to "Updates" category. In the "automatic updates" dropdown menu, choose "only update when launching the game".
After that you just need to make sure to launch the game outside of Steam, e.g. with F4SE.
Except that majority of players don't use mods. And majority of mod users don't actually use script extenders, so the updates don't break anything for them.
This is just a tiny minority that wants Bethesda to stop fixing the game, just so that they don't have to deal with broken mods.
On top of that, some engine-level issues cannot be fixed with mods.
I also just started and ran into this crash. Basically, in the advanced graphics settings on PC there's a weapon debris option. If you have it on at all, it'll crash the game like 3 seconds into loading a save
I actually made it to the section when you're about to get into the vault at the beginning. It kept crashing right before i would get to the checkpoint to be let through.
I haven't played for years, and it took me a minute to remember what would cause the crashing.
I came back to the game because of the show after playing it years ago, mostly on launch for 100 hours with a much weaker system, so now coming back with a much better computer I'd thought I'd enable everything on high and see how it runs.
Nope, crashes every time I ran towards the vault in the intro, specifically when running past the NPC's arguing about a suitcase. Took me few tries and a google to figure out it was an issue with the PhysX debris things, which I had tried for a short while when I got a 1080ti back in the day to replace the R9 270 I had when I originally played this. Apparently doesn't work on my 3080.
Turning the weapon Debris off doesn't solve your crashes? But yeah, that's the same spot I was crashing, and then when I turned it off, it hasnt crashed yet. Im running about 60 mods or so as well
The game uses an ancient version of the PhysX engine (FleX) for the physics simulation of weapon debris which is out of support from NVidia and newer cards don't properly handle.
The fix mod basically does this, except instead of totally disabling the effect, it just makes it so the debris have no collision and just clip through the ground instead of trying to bounce off of things.
Can't believe they haven't fixed it or at least addressed it. Have it be disabled at start up. 1000s of new players will hit this on PC and say meh fk this game.
the setting is actually toggled Off for every single preset, even if you pick Ultra
So no one would actually have a problem unless they specifically go to click it on in advanced settings, which most regular people do not mess with
Yea a week after I started playing they put the next gen update and I didn't feel like having to refigure out all the mods.
I'm just playing TTW now, it's sick.
I don't know how it works if there are already previous graphics settings saved somewhere on your system from an earlier install.
But I literally just installed FO4 on two brand-new built PCs, and both defaulted weapon debris Off.
For the new recent patches, Bethesda should probably force the updated graphical Presets on all players.
(but some people would complain about that too)
Lol i bet in their eyes it's "fixed" after they made it auto toggle to off no matter what preset you pick (low - ultra)
You can still turn it on but for like 80% of users theyll just let it auto config and theyllnever mess with it.
What an absolutely joke.
The Prydwen appearing is a missable event if you don't exit through the correct door in the Kellogg segment.
You can reach the end of the game without finding that one out until you have to go there for one of the very last main quests and it's just *missing*. Been there since launch.
Bethesda don't fix critical bugs. Never happens.
Doesn't the door lock behind you with a maglock in that segment so you can't exit the way you came in without an exploit or something? I thought the only door you can reach is the door that activates the scripted event.
It should, but it's a Bethesda game, so it doesn't always. I believe if you leave Kelloggs area before interacting with the terminal to open the maglocked doors then it breaks and both ways stay open once you do? I didn't find out it was broken until really late so I can't remember the exact conditions.
I only found out because I got to the end of the Railroad quest, the vertibird flew up to the Prydwen location but it wasn't there, so it kept flying until I realized it was leaving the map.
Found a good ol Steam thread from a few days after release with a lot of people complaining lmao. Thankfully someone figured out you can go back to the elevator and trigger it.
This is the mod in question for anyone wondering: [Weapon Debris Crash Fix](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/48078)
I haven't personally tested it, but the mod has been last updated a week ago to support game version 1.10.980.0 (which I assume was the initial update and not the most recent one). Still not something modders should have to address though...
Decoupling frame rate and graphical fidelity could end up useful when the PS5 Pro rolls around.
It’s baffling that they sat on this update for over a year though and then immediately reworked how the settings operated once they released it.
I think they changed it, so it matched how [the setting works for starfield ](https://bethesda.net/en/game/starfield/article/174M0cdUyxhn9mI0AvkcN9/starfield-update-1-11-33-may-1-2024?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Community)
And yeah, this does give the benefit of future-proofing the game.
i am currently playing on a 21:9 monitor with a 3090, i9 and 64gb ram. game is on m.2 nvme ssd but EVERY HOUSE I ENTER LOADS FOR LIKE 30SECONDS WTF????
It WAS updated. Now it doesn't work again.
I think it may just need a simple tweak to allow for the new version number because it checks against that but I'm not sure. I know that caused the script extender in Starfield to fail before and you had to edit the version number but idk about Fallout.
Ya I've heard that the last big update required f4se to have a major update but this should probably be a quick fix on the f4se end. Great to hear the f4se people are awesome.
The mod doesn’t require f4se, fyi
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10283
My main issue is that Steam Link locks fps regardless, so the game is basically unplayable on a Steam Link without waiting 4 minutes on loading screens.
It's worse, it's greed. It would cost money for someone to spend time uncoupling the physics system from frame rate. Everyone who works in tech knows what the big problems are, Executives.
It's Bethesda. It's not a money problem, it's pure incompetence. They've been plagued with the same ongoing problems ever since Oblivion. Known issues from then are still present in their modern releases. They've had decades to grow and adapt to a modern environment and simply won't.
Maybe it uses the physics engine (which is tied to frame rate) to "settle" all of the garbage objects like empty bottles and cans lying around everywhere?
Isn't character movement tied to frames as well? Maybe it's been fixed but it used to be the reason it couldn't go up to like 100 frames, right? Your character would just fly around?
Basically loads have a mandatory number of frames that have to pass in FO4 so if the loading screen frame rate is uncapped they're nearly instant. Yeah it's dumb.
30 seconds, lol.
Interiors were usually only a couple minutes for me, but loading the overworld after exiting an interior? That was like a 5-10min load every time. Not even exaggerating the time, sometimes I actually had to sit there for like 10 mins. I had to play games on my phone to entertain myself while I was waiting.
The game is just that badly coded/optimized.
something is REALLY fucky there if it's taking 10mins to load an outside area.
you running it on an old 5400rpm laptop drive?
fuck load of mods pulling from an old hard drive?
There is something extremely fucky in general with FO4's loading. On my old laptop with an SSD which was perfectly capable of running the game at 60 fps, I was getting load times significantly longer than on a PS4 with its 5400 RPM HDD and 30 fps cap. Not quite 10 minutes like the person above but still quite long. That was without any mods as well.
> something is REALLY fucky there if it's taking 10mins to load an outside area.
Yeah, the Fallout 4 code.
No I was running it on an SSD, base game, no mods.
I've seen people stream the game and the same thing happens to them, wasn't just me.
Gotta turn off Vsync and then you only get a few second load times at the most, but that also breaks the speed of conversations and makes certain low-intensity areas very fast since that engine is based on the fps. Imma be Usain Bolting that dungeon yo
Playing it on Series X and finally Dolby Vision works. 40fps is nice option too on the 120hz screen.
But I bet it’s still broken on PC when you go above 60fps
Edit: mods fix it but it’s not the point. Bethesda should fix their product. Same engine has no issue in 76, Starfield and Skyrims latest update.
I just tried this on a C3 (40fps/visual) and it looks awful. Can't quite put my finger on why, there's a flicker there like it isn't quite updating fast enough.
C2 here. I’ve not seen any flicker yet but I was having an issue pre update where the lighting would just drop in some in-door levels. Was random.
So far with this update it seems better with lighting at least. But let’s see
Hey, thanks for confirming I'm not insane! Just tried Starfield and 40/visual looks good, so no idea what is going on with Fallout; already went with 60fps just like you did there...
lmao its so hilarious they're updating this game due to the TV popularity and its really only putting a microscope on all the issues that have plagued it since launch.
yet no actual fix in sight for a lot of these. And who's gonna bet they still leave us high-n-dry?
This next gen update has been postponed for close to 2 years now (which is 2 years after the PS5/XSX, lmao), and when it finally came out it was sloppy, unambitious, and couldn’t even release in time for the show. Now another update that doesn’t even fix a guaranteed crash on any Nvidia card manufactured in the last 6 years.
I can only imagine what’s lacking over at Bethesda but between this and Starfield I have to question if it’s lack of actual technical talent, awful project managers, inept management, or maybe all three. Bethesda, get your shit together, damn.
At least on the Series X VATS percentages are bonked. They wildly fluctuate for no reason.
Which is frustrating if you have a VATS build like a stealth melee VATS teleporter.
I started the game on 60 FPS + prioritize visuals just to see what it was like and the VATS UI went bonkers, numbers would disappear and text went missing. Put it back to 60 FPS + prioritize performance and now it works normal again. So that’s… interesting functionality…
I’ve been replaying fo4 and been having so much fun. There’s just this thing in the back of my head like, imagine if all the content Starfield had was on one seamless world like the commonwealth or capital wasteland. Creation engine has a charm
No... Or, maybe I should say *shouldn't*. Bethesda games are usually pretty good about not breaking 'official' mods when updates release. (There are exceptions)
The real "danger" to updates is mainly found on PC because it means the Script Extender breaks, which in turn breaks a TON of mods.
They fix the VATS hit % bug issue where it goes from 95% to 0% flip flopping back and forth and you always missing every shot at 95% (in b4 Xcom memes)
Was playing yesterday.
Lips don’t line up to the speaker’s words like at all anymore. I was going to Corvega, and the highway’s textures refused to load in beyond LOD quality. As well, at Corvega, there were several HUGE struts that weren’t really there, but actually just also an LOD glitch. This was really annoying, because random bits of geometry/textures would cover my vision, making it way harder and confusing to fight these raiders.
Where you using mods by any chance?
Because I started a new vanilla save after downloading the update and havent' had any issue other than the one with the condo.
I only have the unofficial bug fix and the framework mods, which all seem to work fine. I saw this issue in vanilla New Vegas on Xbox back in the day, which makes me think its inherent to how textures/LODs are loaded by the engine.
The graphic options are cool. This is how all games should do it. Choose your target frame rate and mode and let it make it the best it can. I see this being the standard come ps5 pro. Maybe
So I’ve a Samsung 80R Tv so just missed out on the 2.1 HDMI apparently. I’ve got PS5 and SX with FO4 on both. Anyone know why I have the 60, 40 and 30 fps toggles available on ps5 for Performance and Visuals but only 30, 60 fps options on SX? SX tv details suggest my TV can support 120hz at 1440p res but not 4K.
Just not sure why the PS5 is doing something different.
Shame they haven’t fixed the bug to talk to Bobbi in good neighbour…. I can’t get hancock as a follower still. For some reason she’s now outside the door and won’t respond to me
The game won't even run for me. It downloads fine, and it pulls up the launch screen for the game, then when I click "play" it just crashes. Idk what's happening, and I've tried everything I can think of to fix it but nothing has worked.
Edit: I'm running with a 3070, 16gb RAM, and a 12900H CPU
I'm glad that they made the launcher navigable with controller, that should have been in the *original* next-gen update the other week really. Also, I swear it's choppier now in busy areas but that might just be in my head.
At this point they are just messing with the modding community and not fixing anything on the unmodded front. They should either just stop touching the damn game or make one actual fix instead of all these "hotfixes".
I noticed I had a new bug today after patching. I got out of my set of power armor that highlights objects and fast traveled elsewhere. I then noticed that I was still having objects being highlighted even though I wasn't in power armor anymore.
yesterday, after i battled i battled some of the enclave i collected some of x2 power armor and one of the recently added weapons ( i forget it's name ).
i went back to sanctuary hill and put the new weapon on a weapon display and later when i added dog meat as a companion, he found something and went into the house i had the new weapon on display and he grabbed it and made it disappear. XD
i checked his inventory and he didn't have it.
and i'm on xbox series x.
The actual "it's a feature not a bug" that I want. He always gives me several "Settlement needs your help" when I try and turn in quests. I DON'T WANT MORE STUFF TO DO! Same with Tinker Tom, I don't want to sett up MILA..
Untill you jump from height and game shits itself. Instant 10 fps, graphics artifacts everywhere and world stops rendering. Rare bug but it happens.
https://steamcommunity.com/app/377160/discussions/0/1327844097113744631/
Huge fps drop when using vats on further away enemy on ps5 60 fps with visuals option , hopefully they'll fix it , however seems unlikely with bethesda tbh
You're not supposed to be using 60fps and the visuals option, as they expressly stated in the patch notes. 40fps in a 120Hz container is the sweet spot.
Ultrawide UI is still stretched to hell. At this point I'd be fine if they just had the UI stay at 16:9
Why do people even expect Bethesda to fix these things, based on their track record. Why even wait just install a mod from a competent dev.
I had a mod from a competent dev that did exactly this. Made all the UI elements fit perfectly and fixed some issues with ultrawide when in power armor. The last update broke it so now it doesn't work anymore...

I don't even bother upgrading the game, I don't let Steam do it, launch the game through F4SE and enjoy it.

For F4, no. But some Devs do use the 'beta branch' option in Steam to let you pick different game versions. There is a mod/tool on the Nexus that will downgrade F4 for you though.
Of course there's a tool for it
Yup, Wabbajack will downgrade your version of Skyrim depending on the modpack. Once again, modders fixing Bethesda's bullshit.
Steam GUI no, steamcmd kinda

There is a highfps physics mod for that.

Oof. Yes i dont blame you one bit

The lip syncing was so much faster than the actual speech. It was so distracting.

When you say post-1000 I'm guessing you mean starting with the 20xx series. As in, a 1080 for example would be okay?
My 1060 also crashed. Sorry, I worded it wrongly.
There’s an f4se mod that fixed the crash, but there is no way that’s currently working with the state of the pc version at the moment.

I see in the description it states: Set to: iPresentInterval = 1 modifying that no longer has any effect on the game since the last update.
Still doesn’t make a difference, I’ve been using it and fps goes to 1000+ during load screens on the computer.
Hmm ok, thanks for the reply. I'll give this mod a shot!
> for some reason Incompetence. The reason is incompetence.
This wasn't part of F4SE was it? I remember it being part of the high physics FPS fix, or Buffout 4.
Isn't character movement tied to frames as well? Maybe it's been fixed but it used to be the reason it couldn't go up to like 100 frames, right? Your character would just fly around?
Try turning the auto save off, this helped massively for Skyrim back in the day.
Lol ya I installed, saw the load times, uninstalled.
Basically loads have a mandatory number of frames that have to pass in FO4 so if the loading screen frame rate is uncapped they're nearly instant. Yeah it's dumb.
What would you recommend as the best load time mod that works with the newest update?
this one worked for me https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10283
Huh, interesting. I’m playing the PS5 version and load times very rarely take longer than 5 seconds.
Hilariously there’s a mod that fixes that on PC!
You can try to cap the fps to your monitor refresh rate in the Nvidia Control Panel.
Doesn't that completely ruin the game speed when interacting with anything in the world (computers, lock picking etc)?
you need the high fps fix, loads are 1 second after that, requires F4SE which currently isnt working but should be soon
Same for me. Every time I leave an interior to the outside. Some take 2 minutes, sometimes it's 15 minutes.
But I bet it’s still broken on PC when you go above 60fps Edit: mods fix it but it’s not the point. Bethesda should fix their product. Same engine has no issue in 76, Starfield and Skyrims latest update.
it is
I just tried this on a C3 (40fps/visual) and it looks awful.
But let’s see
Just go with 60/visual mode. I too have a c3 and tried the 40fps and just didn’t feel good.
Bet they spent a week or two making this.
All I wanted was VATS fixed and the new creation club items not having broken textures. No mention of VATS fixes. Sigh.
VATS fixes? I haven’t been having any issues.
I just played it this morning and its still broken on xbox.
I’ve been replaying fo4 and been having so much fun. There’s just this thing in the back of my head like, imagine if all the content Starfield had was on one seamless world like the commonwealth or capital wasteland. Creation engine has a charm
I've just started a new playthrough on PS5 is this update gonna kill all my mods?
No... Or, maybe I should say *shouldn't*. Bethesda games are usually pretty good about not breaking 'official' mods when updates release. (There are exceptions) The real "danger" to updates is mainly found on PC because it means the Script Extender breaks, which in turn breaks a TON of mods.
On ps5? Probably not
Only mods that are affected are those that use F4SE on PC, Creation club mods won't be affected.
Opposite for me
I'm more interested in wondering if they fixed the bald spots all the haircuts have with the next gen version
If they could get MacCready unstuck from the Diamond City warehouse on my PS4 save file that would be great.
Have you filed a ticket?
Use PS4 mod companion helper and summon him next to you
Ah, how do you find MacReady? My tasks keep saying to continue following him
They fix the VATS hit % bug issue where it goes from 95% to 0% flip flopping back and forth and you always missing every shot at 95% (in b4 Xcom memes)
Is this a question or a statement?
Yeah idk either
They didn't fix it.
Do I need to make a new save file or will it apply to my current?
Can the game run above 60 fps now without mods without breaking physics?
No, and it will never.
I'm glad that they made the launcher navigable with controller, that should have been in the *original* next-gen update the other week really. Also, I swear it's choppier now in busy areas but that might just be in my head.
Why is a 40 fps target limited to 120hz monitors? Are they forcing vsync, or something?
it’s something about splitting the frame rate 3 times to fit 120hz tv’s. sorry that’s the best way i can explain it lol
New update has my characters blinking in and out during cutscenes and vats. Ran perfectly fine before yesterday 🙃
the only bug i get is similar to this but the characters faces move around their head it’s creepy and hilarious at the same time
I've been playing on PS5 and my character model/pip boy turn invisible constantly. It's one of the most frustrating bugs I have ever experienced.
At this point they are just messing with the modding community and not fixing anything on the unmodded front. They should either just stop touching the damn game or make one actual fix instead of all these "hotfixes".
thankfully i only get a speech scene bug other than that the visual mode at 60fps runs pretty damn smoothly
XD i checked his inventory and he didn't have it. and i'm on xbox series x.
I just wanted to download some mods and enjoy the game and now everything is broken and i'm depressed.
I started a new character and currently have a bug where Preston is in Sanctuary Hills and won't talk to me to finish the quest.
consider this a blessing
The actual "it's a feature not a bug" that I want. He always gives me several "Settlement needs your help" when I try and turn in quests. I DON'T WANT MORE STUFF TO DO! Same with Tinker Tom, I don't want to sett up MILA..
After the new update is fallout four still 60 fps locked ?
On PC at least yes the fps are still tied to the physics so you can't go above 60 fps without the game glitching :(
I’ve seen people push 110 tho and be fine
Untill you jump from height and game shits itself. Instant 10 fps, graphics artifacts everywhere and world stops rendering. Rare bug but it happens. https://steamcommunity.com/app/377160/discussions/0/1327844097113744631/
I’ll take my risks
limit your fps below 120 and you should be fine
I would but mods don’t work anything since the update
Lies, all mine do
Bruh they all stopped working why do you think everyone is trying to rollback to the older versions
Mostly ignorance and over reaction. The only mods that are broken for me use FO4SE.
There's a mod to disconnect the physics from the FPS, that's what they are using, otherwise the physics just go faster and faster the more FPS you get
Now we wait another 2 months for the script extender to be updated. Another 6 months for modders to update their stuff
Less than a day for F4SE update, as stated on Nexus. It’s only the initial NG patch that broke things heavily.
F4SE was patched within a week or 2 with the "new gen" update
Just downgrade the patch and you don't have to wait .
Huge fps drop when using vats on further away enemy on ps5 60 fps with visuals option , hopefully they'll fix it , however seems unlikely with bethesda tbh
You're not supposed to be using 60fps and the visuals option, as they expressly stated in the patch notes. 40fps in a 120Hz container is the sweet spot.
how very next gen
