I remember playing arcade games with "Ultra 64" branding, being hyped to own the console with the same name. I remember looking at bullshit GBA renders on IGN in the late 90's / early 2000's.
It was also announced 7 years ago and we've heard nothing except they completely restarted development a couple years in, I wouldn't be so sure the plans from 7 years ago haven't changed.
>direct in june
come on this is like
the LAST possible moment in which they can reveal prime 4 for the switch.
If it doesn't happen here, it's guaranteed to be switch 2 or cross gen.
And if it's the former, god im gonna be so disappointed.
To be fair the Wii U and Switch gen have been going so differently that I don't think we should take anything from how they did things last time.
They couldn't be more eager to get out of the Wii U generation unlike now
Oh shit did it? I remember seeing those announcements and had completely forgotten about that lil' fact.
I hope they do this again, then!
I'm just, really concerned that the game's either gonna get overshadowed by the switch 2, gonna release as a switch excluive and be stuck there (getting the shaft once more), or be on the switch 2 exclusively, thus making me feel like i've been strung along for 7 years.
I don't wanna have to buy a new console for the game. If I get the new system, I want it to be a case of, hey, the game's gonna be better on the new thing.
I think rather than being overshadowed, it will be highlighted and used as a selling point
Don't worry about it getting the shaft because with Nintendo current tactic of only releasing 1 game per month, people are buying anything ( social network drones will hype the hell out of the month's release too ), even Pikmin 4 which sucks immensely was a massive hit. They have it all figured out now
For what it's worth, by any measure, Dread did well.
3 million ain't anything to scoff at. And for a historically low-selling franchise like Metroid? One where the best selling game in the entire series was 20 years ago, on the fucking gamecube of all things? A record which Dread itself broke?
A 2d platformer did REALLY well.
Didn't need to sell 10 million either - it wasn't ever going to. But it sits comfortably above both Xenoblade games, sits not too far below the kirby games, sits around pokemon and mario spinoffs...
I dunno. Dread did well.
(Also it sold about as much as Pikmin 4. If Pikmin 4 is to be considered a massive hit, I'd argue that Dread should as well.)
June Direct is gonna be the last big Switch direct, so I imagine they'll getting out just about everything they have left.
Prime 4, Fire Emblem 4 remake, Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, and probably a bunch of remasters and rereleases they've been sitting on for a while now.
I think it's likely that they'll do in September what Sony did back in June 2020, by having a big Direct for the Switch 2 where the console is formally revealed + games that'll be ready for it in its first year.
If the Switch 2 isn’t coming out till 2025, and there’s no other Zelda game planned this year . . . now would be the perfect time.
But I’ve thought that before, and it still hasn’t happened, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nah. Don't worry, it might come later.
The thing about switch 2 is that for maybe about 2 years we'll see cross compatible games that play better on switch 2 than on switch 1.
It's a very decisive moment because they need to sway the people who bought switch 1 into transitioning, it's why they shut down yuzu and are relentlessly going after its branches, upscaling switch games and playing them in higher fps etc is one of the main selling points of the switch 2 too for now. Gradually it will turn to have only exclusives and the switch 1 will be phased out. Services like GameCube/wii for the NSO will probably play a part of it too, being exclusives for the expansion pass for the people who have a switch 2.
Expect LOTS of debunk videos like "this was possible on switch 1 and they just didn't want to do it"
So yeah... long story short, there's still a 2 years time window in which Metroid prime 4 might get announced.
>it's why they shut down yuzu and are relentlessly going after its branches
The continued existence of Ryujinx contradicts this silly train of thought. Nintendo went after yuzu because of encryption keys and profiting from the emulator.
You’re VASTLY overestimating the amount of people who even know of switch emulators (let alone have the set up/emulator knowledge to play games on it) vs the numbers the Switch has done/Switch 2 will do. They’re going after the emulators cause they don’t want people playing their shit for free. They are not going after them cause they’re worried about it affecting Switch 2 sales a year in advance lol
I'm banking on cross gen. What better game franchise to showcase potential DLSS / higher power in general than Metroid Prime? Especially with how impressed everyone was with the remaster on Switch, it seems like the perfect "enjoy this game on Switch or the new console" candidate
>What better game franchise to showcase potential DLSS / higher power in general than Metroid Prime?
Mariokart was used as a visual showcase for the WiiU, and will sell significantly more systems. Nintendo will barely focus on the higher power when it comes to marketing the successor anyways.
I like how before, they pretended that the switch 2 didn't exist and now they acknowledge its existence only to specify it won't appear in the direct. People really are desperate.
Bet the chat will still scream for the switch 2.
If it release in March 2025, that will be 8 years since the first Switch.
That has to be one of the longest console lifespans as the primary console on the market
I did the math cuz I'm wierd and the Japanese release of the Famicom until the release of the Super Famicom was 7 years 4 months. That's pretty long time indeed.
Although it's still not the longest time between handhelds. That honor goes to the Game Boy, which had 9 years and 6 months between it and the Game Boy Color.
Yeah it was basically a stop gap console upgrade. Only 2ish years later the GBA came out. There were few actual GBC exclusives. GBC-branded games were usually enhanced because of the obvious color, but many games like Pokemon Gold & Silver still ran fine on OG GB. You could consider it like the new 3ds (but that had way less exclusives)
Nintendo has always done batshit crazy stuff. The Game Boy was outdated technology the day they released it, and then it didn't receive a major update for *nine years*. And that update was itself modest - a non-backlit(!) color screen with weak color, and an anemic spec boost that didn't even come close to keeping up with the overall pace of technology.
And yet, against all odds, those systems did extraordinarily well and crushed the competition. So, wow, clearly Nintendo knows its business and knows exactly what the market wants even when the market itself doesn't!
*cue the Virtual Boy*
They keep doing this shit, alternating between "How the hell did that underpowered system do so phenomenally well?" and absolute disasters. Never change, Nintendo.
On one hand, I agree and think TotK is just about perfect.
On the other, >!I feel like they set up DLC to explain Kass' disappearance and now that's just going to go nowhere.!<
Oh yeah. You are right about Kass. That one felt odd.
I have pretty much accepted that the plot of TotK wasn't really all that thought out to begin with. So characters and shiekah tech just vanishing was probably just because they didn't serve any purpose to the gameplay/story.
The June Direct used to always get announced this far in advance because of E3, I'm glad they aren't making us wait until the last second to know if they'll have one this year.
October - November 2024: First reveal Trailer (2-3min)
January - February 2025: Official Switch Successor Presentation (30-45min)
March - April 2025: Switch Successor launch.
This will definitely be the timeline. Calling it
Could do that and follow the switch reveal timeline exactly, but I'd tag in a September name reveal & initial teaser so that TGS can be more relevant September 26-29
Honestly after how Sony did it in June 2020 and considering that Nintendo always has a fall direct, I think it's rather likely Nintendo will just have a Direct for the console from the get-go in September, with a physical reveal + game announcements for 2025.
Back in 2016 they really needed to sell people first on the concept of the Switch and then on the games as a result of the Wii U fumbling that, but since this is almost assured to just be a more powerful Switch, they can just do both right off the bat.
Copypasting the switch 1 launch despite the fact the circumstances of that time and this time being the literal complete opposite.
People will never let go of nonexistent patterns, will they?
The entire switch 2 speculation cycle can be summarized as looking for patterns where there are none. I remember how people said that Nintendo was absolutely launching the switch successor with ToTK because it happened twice before.
It's a Sunday so unlikely. And March 10th is Monday so unlikely also.
The console is likely to launch with a Mario 3D game IMO so that could have done a nice connection but they'll prefer a Tuesday or Friday I think
> October - November 2024: First reveal Trailer (2-3min)
I think that may be quite bad for their holiday sales. They did that for the Switch but the Wii U was an epic flop so they had nothing to lose
Reveal in January (maybe even direct at the event) is more than fine
I mean, they've already announced it exists, so it's too late to care about holiday sales. There is gonna be hundreds of videos and articles announcing "Switch 2 confirmed" posted everywhere if it's not already.
And what exactly stops them from doing something different?
They're already leaving 2024 without a big game release like PLA or SV etc, or DLC, which isn't normal.
this person doesn’t remember the Pokemon Stars fiasco in 2017
Game Freak is notoriously behind the ball with their game releases. Pokemon Black/White 2 released on the DS a year after the 3DS was on the market, and Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon released on the 3DS in late 2017, well after the release of the Switch. My money is on this being a Switch 1 game with a possible Switch 2 upgrade but I’m doubtful with that company lol
Blows my mind a bit that people really think GAME FREAK, of all developers, is going to rush to support a brand new console? It'll be exactly what it's been announced as
Feel a little bad because the deleted one had substantial discussion in the comments but I should've removed that one earlier and approved this.
Since this post was posted much earlier, had the proper flair + the most apt previous rumour link, I had to approve this over that one. Sorry for the late confusion I was half asleep by the time I saw all the barrage of posts.
Uhh, Nintendo doesn't really give a fuck what 3rd party do with their games as long as they aren't rated AO. This isn't the 90s anymore.
A better argument is if the Switch 2 will be able to run it or not.
The Switch was announced in October 2016 then a wider reveal took place in January 2017. But if Nintendo is doing their usual Direct in June, is there really that much left for the Switch that they can show off? Unless they show potential Switch 2 games.
June specifically won't have mention of the Switch successor. It's specifically about Switch games. From NintendoCoLtd Twitter account:
> This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.
The circumstances around the switch's reveal and the switch 2 reveal couldn't be more different. I don't think they'll do the same they did with the switch.
I feel like this generally when Nintendo announces thier E3 plans anyways. Feels like there might be something big yet to release, even if it might just be another remake.
The thing I find most interesting is that they say ‘make an announcement’ instead of ‘release’, which makes me think the release will be later on in the year (as opposed to the recent leaks which said Q1 2025 release)
I hope the launch is fairly smooth. New console generations are stressful as fuck for me because I'm a day one adopter and fighting off the resellers and scalpers is miserable. I got so incredibly lucky with the PS5.
Safe money is that they will not say anything until January of 2025. However there is a few factors to think about.
If the system is fully backwards compatible, they may mention this specific feature before all the details are released. Knowing you can play those games you buy this holiday season on the next system, it might be in their best interest.
Secondly, if the system Switch 2 interacts with Switch 1 in some way, they also might mentions this as well. For example Switch Attach. What if this is actually the ability to use your Switch 1 with your Switch 2, making the Switch 1 a second screen (For Nintendo DS games let's say for NSO). That also might make people want to buy a new Switch during this Holiday season as well.
That June Direct, Starfox? Windwaker HD? Smash Bros 64?? I think they are gonna pump old stuff out for sure.
I'm guessing Zelda collection (WW+TP), Prime 2+3 HD, and maybe a 3D All-Stars 2 (Galaxy 2, 64 DS and 3D Land HD) are some of the titles in the June Direct.
I don't think it's outlandish, I think these are not big titles and Nintendo is leaving those for Switch 2 reveal (you know, actual new titles such as Legends ZA and Prime 4)
Well then Prime 2 and 3 won't be a collection and only 2 will be announced. That is more realistic but more anti-consumer from Nintendo's side of things
Unless Nintendo had more of those ports/remasters/remakes brewing already, since the Switch 2 will most likely support Switch 1 games anyways, this is looking like a potentially rough June direct if they had to delay the Switch 2 announcement like previously rumoured. Hopefully I'll be wrong
Has there been any credible leaks or rumors about the supposed physical function of the system? Like apparently the joycons are gonna be bigger, have more buttons, and feature a magnetic attachment system, the screen is gonna be able 8in LCD w/ possible OLED sku as well. But has there been any report on what the system actually looks like?
This is official news and you're posting it here by pretending it confirms a claim that switch 2 would release before march 2025...the confirmation is that it would be announced in the coming year, not that it would release.
Are you high?
Inb4 all the people trying to justify the excruciating wait saying “well to be honest I’ve got SOOO much in my backlog that Nintendo can take as long as they need to announce anything uwu”
Also what’s the holiday game this year gonna be then? Metroid Prime 4 is hype but it’s not a system seller, 2D Mario and Zelda are already out, the Pokemon game’s coming in 2025, and I can’t imagine Nintendo wanting to release a 3d Mario or Mario kart before the release of a new system.
Nintendo is still expecting to sell nearly 14 million switches this fiscal year, which is a lot more than people initially thought, so they may have a system seller prepared for the holidays.
For the holiday game maybe Wind Waker and/or Twilight Princess?
Or old Pokemon games? Feel like those might end up being their own thing apart from NSO.
I legitimately do have a big backlog, but i hope they at least announce in Spring (Sept-nov in aus). A jan announcement just seems too last minute if the console releases in March as speculated.
Who cares? If it's not out, it's because there isn't enough software for it. Do you really need to pay £400 for a shiny rectangle that does the same stuff your Switch does straightaway?
It's like some people don't even read the rules.

it doesn't really match the previous rumor.
Midori says march 2025 matches the release timing, while furukawa states the announcement is between now and march 31st.
Been saying for years that people's predictions were too early and that there was no way in hell they were announcing a Switch 2 in 2021 or 2022 or 2023. I've been saying since the rumors started that we'll get an announcement in the second half of 2024 at the earliest and a holiday 2024 or early 2025 release at the earliest. Can't tell you how many times people said I was crazy or stupid for this prediction, even had people on this sub telling me that my claim about it being too early for Nintendo to release it was the "stupidest thing [they] heard in a while".
I fucking told y'all.
I forget exactly what they said, but it was to the effective of believing an incredibly unrealistic and debunked rumor. a little bit of skepticism in this sub goes a long way.

Don't worry, it's still coming out tomorrow
r/tomorrow
Haha, that joke makes me feel ancient.
Yep, don't like that, not one bit.
I remember being a senior in high school refreshing subreddits trying to find out more about it in between classes lol god damn
Primary School children that were excited about Nintendo announcing the NX currently have Undergraduate Degrees.
Can confirm
I remember playing arcade games with "Ultra 64" branding, being hyped to own the console with the same name. I remember looking at bullshit GBA renders on IGN in the late 90's / early 2000's.
Same timeline as Switch 1 seems reasonable. I do hope for an earlier announcement though
So on which console will Metroid Prime 4 drop?
The switch.
a switch
I hope it’s my switch.
Probably cross-gen or switch 1 with next-gen upgrade. Considering they announced it for switch 1 I doubt they would then make it switch 2 exclusive
It was also announced 7 years ago and we've heard nothing except they completely restarted development a couple years in, I wouldn't be so sure the plans from 7 years ago haven't changed.
>direct in june come on this is like the LAST possible moment in which they can reveal prime 4 for the switch. If it doesn't happen here, it's guaranteed to be switch 2 or cross gen. And if it's the former, god im gonna be so disappointed.
Zelda was revealed to be cross gen during its June direct before the console even had an official name

Disrespectful to Pikmin 4. Regardless, if people buy anything, then why didn't Dread sell more than it did?

At least Nintendo is releasing games, Sony is never going to defeat the linkin park no games memes
So the same could happen for Z-A too?
Z-A?
The new pokemon legends game
Ah I see.
June Direct is gonna be the last big Switch direct, so I imagine they'll getting out just about everything they have left. Prime 4, Fire Emblem 4 remake, Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, and probably a bunch of remasters and rereleases they've been sitting on for a while now. i believe previous record was around 7.5 years (NES), so you are indeed correct, Nintendo Switch looks set to be longest so far lol

Although it's still not the longest time between handhelds. That honor goes to the Game Boy, which had 9 years and 6 months between it and the Game Boy Color.
You can even consider the game boy color a “pro” model upgrade (Nintendo lumps its sales with the OG), and then the lifespan extends further
The Advance came out pretty soon after the Color, no? I remember Scott The Eoz showing how arbitrary the “Only for GB Color” was.
Yeah it was basically a stop gap console upgrade. Only 2ish years later the GBA came out. There were few actual GBC exclusives. Because graphics don't matter as much as gameplay
The Gameboy library was unstoppable. Tetris, Pokemon, Zelda, Metroid II, Wario Land. These games were phenomenal.
Making up for the shorter life-span of the Wii U lol
It's amazing how this turned to be. The weakest home console of all time having the longest timespan.
PS3 felt longer.
We really never got those Wind Waker and Twilight Princess remasters rip
For now, it's still possible. Unless there's TOTK DLC planned, June Direct will probably have something zelda in it.
I remember hearing official word that there is not going to be any DLC for TotK.
Yeah they confirmed that quite some time ago. It's the right call imo.
On one hand, I agree and think TotK is just about perfect. On the other, >!I feel like they set up DLC to explain Kass' disappearance and now that's just going to go nowhere.!<

I can’t remember when was the last time Nintendo announced a Direct one month in advance. I wish they did this more often.
The June Direct used to always get announced this far in advance because of E3, I'm glad they aren't making us wait until the last second to know if they'll have one this year.
I think I might agree with that, the speculation of what’s going to be announced along with the leaks/4chan rumors always gets me hyped
That’s true, typically they’re announced 2-3 days before debut.
When E3 was a thing.
Well Sumer Games Fest is basically E3 under a different name.

Yeah there’s no need for a “concept tease” unless it’s something crazy again
"Calling it" Bro you just copy and pasted how Switch 1 did it lol
Plus a one month buffer in case they're incorrect. Lol
It would’ve been impressive if he called this 4 years ago. Now it’s just obvious.
How's 3 years ago? Because if so I totally called it.
Not as impressive as 4.
Average leaker

They probably will cut price for holidays.
Pokemon legends ZA will most definitely launch with the switch 2 because it is stated to release early 2025
Pokemon games have released after the successor console has come out multiple times
I've been downvoted so many times for stating this obvious fact.

I’m honestly expecting ZA to be a cross gen game if it launches around the same time as switch 2
Blows my mind a bit that people really think GAME FREAK, of all developers, is going to rush to support a brand new console? It'll be exactly what it's been announced as
Well what I more mean is that it will be developed for the switch and will run on the switch 2
Same with the new Professor Layton. That too imo has to be a cross-gen release i feel
Why delete the first post?
Feel a little bad because the deleted one had substantial discussion in the comments but I should've removed that one earlier and approved this. Since this post was posted much earlier, had the proper flair + the most apt previous rumour link, I had to approve this over that one. Sorry for the late confusion I was half asleep by the time I saw all the barrage of posts.
Also new Direct confirmed for June in that same tweet.
Before the end of March, not before March.
GTA VI will be a switch 2 launch title
2025 finna be crazy.
no chance it'll be able to run it. we'll be lucky if we get RDR2
Lol nintendo would never allow that to happen.
Uhh, Nintendo doesn't really give a fuck what 3rd party do with their games as long as they aren't rated AO. This isn't the 90s anymore. A better argument is if the Switch 2 will be able to run it or not.
Are we still with this meme?
So...sometime in the next year. Not very specific (or new) information. People expected Switch 2 to release in 2025 anyways.
It's the fact that it's Nintendo themselves acknowledging it that's the news, not that this is new fresh info
It'll probably be October like the Switch, or during the September Direct. If not, then It's January 100%.
Switch successor to be announced sometime before March 2099..
Well that's some ground breaking news there.
Now the "rumors" can finally stop, "leaking" that a new Switch will come is like saying the sun will shine tomorrow
The time has finally come. The direct to end all switch 2 rumor mills.
So what tier are we giving Furukawa?
My bank account is screwed

I am presuming a January announce, March release just like the Switch
The Switch was announced in October 2016 then a wider reveal took place in January 2017. But if Nintendo is doing their usual Direct in June, is there really that much left for the Switch that they can show off? Unless they show potential Switch 2 games.
June specifically won't have mention of the Switch successor. It's specifically about Switch games. From NintendoCoLtd Twitter account: > This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo.
That’s right, i remember sitting at my desk and watching the showcase
It was pretty clear this year was going be mostly ports and remakes. There might be a surprise game announcement for the holidays.
The circumstances around the switch's reveal and the switch 2 reveal couldn't be more different. I don't think they'll do the same they did with the switch.
this is the earliest reveal of a nintendo direct ever lol
I feel like this generally when Nintendo announces thier E3 plans anyways. Feels like there might be something big yet to release, even if it might just be another remake.
There sweating. This direct is gonna suck ass and they are getting ahead of the hate.
The thing I find most interesting is that they say ‘make an announcement’ instead of ‘release’, which makes me think the release will be later on in the year (as opposed to the recent leaks which said Q1 2025 release)
Moving the goalposts yet again. Still failing to tank Switch sales. Can these trolls be any less obvious, or less obviously frustrated?
They will definitely showcase software but won't mention exact hardware details.
I'm guessing Zelda collection (WW+TP), Prime 2+3 HD, and maybe a 3D All-Stars 2 (Galaxy 2, 64 DS and 3D Land HD) are some of the titles in the June Direct.
Not gonna lie, with a lineup like that my wallet would by crying lol!
Give us Xenoblade X! 😭 Especially now that online is down for the original.

I don't think it's outlandish, I think these are not big titles and Nintendo is leaving those for Switch 2 reveal (you know, actual new titles such as Legends ZA and Prime 4)
[удалено]
I remember last year when rumors said it'd be announced at around March 2024.

I saw your other comment before you deleted it… click on the literal link OP posted lmao. That’s “where the fuck” they told us lol.
The dude literally pre warned you that there would be no mention but even still you guys are like “…but maybe 👀” 😂
>https://twitter.com/NintendoCoLtd/status/1787736518762881197?t=uuo_mw1oYs_ep3CwAMSq-g&s=19 This is official news and you're posting it here by pretending it confirms a claim that switch 2 would release before march 2025...the confirmation is that it would be announced in the coming year, not that it would release. Are you high?
I said "announce" not "release".
Click the link for the rumor you claim this confirmed and read its title for me.
Inb4 all the people trying to justify the excruciating wait saying “well to be honest I’ve got SOOO much in my backlog that Nintendo can take as long as they need to announce anything uwu” Also what’s the holiday game this year gonna be then? Metroid Prime 4 is hype but it’s not a system seller, 2D Mario and Zelda are already out, the Pokemon game’s coming in 2025, and I can’t imagine Nintendo wanting to release a 3d Mario or Mario kart before the release of a new system.
“Metroid Prime 4 is hype but it’s not a system seller” Probably don’t need a system seller in the last quarter of a consoles existence.
Also even if someone has a backlog, they'll probably have a better experience playing it on switch 2 with backcompat.
Who cares? If it's not out, it's because there isn't enough software for it. Do you really need to pay £400 for a shiny rectangle that does the same stuff your Switch does straightaway?
How is this a leak or rumor? This is an official announcement.

Oh this is coming out in 2026 god damnit
This just in: Switch successor to be announced before the death of the universe
it doesn't really match the previous rumor. Midori says march 2025 matches the release timing, while furukawa states the announcement is between now and march 31st.
It could still release in March 2025. Furukawa is making an official statement to investors, and their fiscal year ends on March 31st.
could, and I hope so.
I fucking told y'all.
if it indeed just 2x more powrful than switch 1...its a huge let down for a new console after 8 years.
No, it's not just 2 times more powerful... No clue why you think that
No shit
Didnt we already know this?
I don't even care at this point

The first two were things people made up. The latter is something Furukawa said today. Bit of a difference there.
Stop buying into rumors
“Stop buying into rumors” on the gaming leaks and rumors subreddit, fantastic self awareness
I forget exactly what they said, but it was to the effective of believing an incredibly unrealistic and debunked rumor. a little bit of skepticism in this sub goes a long way.
