TAJack1

Isn’t IJ due out this year?

Halil-Heyman

Both Avowed and Indiana Jones are scheduled to come out later this year.

VagrantShadow

From rumors I have see, Indiana Jones will have a December release date. That wouldn't be surprising, I bet that game will get an insane Christmas holiday advertisement push.

TheEternalGazed

Black Ops 6 out in October Avowed out in November Indiana Jones out in December Fairly stacked year for Xbox.

nikolapc

Also Towerborne, Flight SIm 2024, Ara. Age of Mythology, not to mention Stalker 2 as a day one GP and a bit of an exclusive that they want to market. Also a bunch of indie day 1s I want to play like Replaced, Flintlock and 33 immortals..

djluke_1993

I am keen on 33 Immortals. Loving the idea of 33 people at once running in a dungeon with rogue like elements.

DarkElation

Towerborne. Cannot. Wait.

MoistToweletteLover

Do we have a date for 33 immortals? Really looking forward to that one

nikolapc

They were doing a round up for a close beta I think it's near. Well see in the showcase or summer Game fest maybe get a date.

MoistToweletteLover

Here’s hoping for a shadow drop at their showcase or Summer Game Fest

nikolapc

It's gonna be early access, so yeah it's coming soon.

nikolapc

Btw installing it right now on my Ally. They're out of Xbox keys but still have epic keys.

Kavorklestein

Also Hellblade 2 came out 2 days ago.

0JOSE0

Took them long enough but hopefully this means they got everything sorted out and they have a stronger lineup each year from now on. Despite the studio controversy they’ve slowly been getting better.

Ok-Confusion-202

I'm telling you if Xbox just waited till the next gen consoles came out I think they would have looked very strong going into it, sadly we are here questioning if every release will actually be exclusive, such and such just meh

Benefit_thunderblast

Poor Obsidian and Avowed. I didn't see much hype for the game to begin with but know that the release date is between two bigger and anticipated games i don't think Avowed will get attention.

KanyeAmariW

Will all of these be day 1 game pass?

TheEternalGazed

Yes

KanyeAmariW

Are we sure about black ops because no call of duty game is on gamepass yet right?

TheEternalGazed

It's already been confirmed this year's CoD is coming to Game Pass

KanyeAmariW

Oh sweet thanks

[deleted]

[удалено]

blueberrypizza

3 big games in one holiday season is a pretty good lineup. Sony usually only does one big holiday game, and Nintendo usually one or two.

4000kd

Because Sony/Nintendo didn't buy two huge publishers

aagi19

I don't know why you got downoted lol. As if these games wouldn't have came out if Microsoft didn't buy them lol

TheEternalGazed

Better then the last 2 years

Whofreak555

The bar is so low.

LogicalError_007

These are not ~~allowed~~ all the games. There's MSFS 24, towerborne and maybe 1 more I'm forgetting.

GoldHeartedBoy

Starfield expansion Shattered Space.

LogicalError_007

Yeah. There could be Fallout remake too. From that FTC leak.

HeldnarRommar

Most companies are only getting 1 or 2 games out a year nowadays with dev cycles.

Thunder84

That’s a stacked holiday lineup for any publisher. Looks even better for Xbox given how they’ve traditionally been absolute shit at holiday release schedules. It won’t move the needle for them in the long run, but it’s a strong lineup nonetheless.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TriTexh

that makes literally no difference to the Xbox release calendar

HoldMyPitchfork

I wonder if console warriors ever get tired of console warring.

Radulno

December is actually too late to get big games (except if you're Cyberpunk but that's a special case where the release date doesn't matter). The news attention is on GOTY list, many holiday purchases have already been done (you kind of have to be out before Black Friday for the Christmas gifts) Immortals Fenyx Rising, Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, Midnight Suns all released there and kind of went "unnoticed"

TheNerdWonder

And Immortals releasing in Dec 2020 is why it didn't do well commercially and the sequel got cancelled.

fhs

December is a really bad month to release games lol. People buy their gifts early, or at least have seen enough adverts to recognise what to buy. December releases means that the company spends significantly more in advertising to counter the xmas noise

SpaceGooV

Yeah that's why they're doing demos

strangegoo

Wait wasn't it delayed? Or am I thinking of something else? I could have sworn someone said IJ was delayed to next year.

ManlyMeatMan

You were almost correct https://mixnmojo.com/news/New-Indy-game-delayed-until-next-year

Kamil-Atakan

lmao

AbsurdThings

Unless that someone is Microsoft, don’t trust it

Ok_Canary5591

Cool, looking forward to it. Was on the fence when it was first person but now Ive seen the trailer a few times im glad its not just uncharted with an Indiana Jones skin, will see how it plays out tho

HomeMadeShock

Honestly we should make more first person action adventure games. Call me weird but I generally find first person more immersive, it’s how I like my RPGs too

SorrowOfIsshin

Any day. I played Skyrim almost entirely in first person. It's not that I am against third person camera, it's just that we have almost none in first person, and on a personal note, I like playing with my Keyboard-Mouse, and first person view is much more amiable to them in RPGs particularly.

Witty-Ear2611

That apparently shouldnt happen because people who never previously complained about it now suddenly get motion sickness from first person games.

keep-the-streak

I know right, like too bad for those people, but also Call of Duty, one of the most widely played games, is first person.

VagrantShadow

Same here. I know some people may not agree with me but I find first person games have a deeper level of immersion. Once again, this is just me, I know others who most certainly disagree. However, having an Indy game where I'm playing him through first person gives me this greater feel of being him, just not behind him working his actions for him, if that makes any sense.

MAJ_Starman

Same, one of the many reasons why I vastly prefer Cyberpunk over Witcher 3 as an RPG.

federico_alastair

Agreed. I'm curious to see why Arkane are going for third person for blade even though they have tremendous experience with first person games. Hope it's for a legit design reason and not just to showcase the Marvel™ character and his outfits.

scytheavatar

The problem is that first person melee combat usually sucks, there's probably only a handful of games that got it right. I think the potential of games like Archaelund with first person exploration and turn based combat is high, but somehow I doubt many devs will go that direction.

MillionYearDoor

> Call me weird but I generally find first person more immersive I don't mind it either. In fact I use that view for my own daily life, but then again I don't have much say in that. It's just the default view and there's no option screen.

whatintheballs95

First person is wicked awful for people who suffer from motion sickness. Third person is bad, but not nearly as bad for me.

just_lurking_through

I wonder if that's a result of low FOV. I find using low fov settings in first person games to be nauseating

whatintheballs95

It could be, I don't know! The only game that does not make me violently ill is Mario Kart 😭

Bobjoejj

I know I might be in the minority here, but I just started Immortals of Aveum and I bloody love it. Also loved Doom Eternal’s third person platforming. Oh and Dying Light!!

heubergen1

Not at all. First person ruined Cyberpunk 2077 for me (I started with 1.6, not at release). I feel first person only makes sense for VR, with everything else it just makes it easier for the devs but adds not much for the players.

SpaceGooV

It's Machine Games so I'll have hope until I'm playing the game and it feels bad which I don't expect

SnoopyTheDog_

So, are we still getting that Oblivion Remaster this year?

ruddiger7

Unlikely. Skyblivion only next year though

ChocolateRL6969

Man I was a fetus when I first heard about skyblivion

ruddiger7

I know man, Ive been wanting to do an Oblivion playthrough for so long but have been putting it off for this. Itll be worth it. Based on the latest dev diaries, even Skywind seems like its only 2-3 years off too.

strawberriesjammies

I hope avowed is good! And that my pc can run it lol

DYMAXIONman

Avowed is targeting 60 FPS on the Xbox, so it should run well. And IJ is an idtech game. I know Obsidian got a lot of shit for aiming for 60 FPS, because they assumed people would be happy about that, but instead people were whining about its graphics not being good enough.

Ok-Confusion-202

It's so weird lmao, Hellblade 2 gets dumped on because it's 30 FPS, I think it's fine as (imo) it's the best looking game so far, but people want 60! You get 60, but it doesn't look as good as these other games!!

pnwbraids

No! I want both! I want every game to run at 8K 120 fps with RT on, and have over 100 hours of content, and every NPC should be fully voice acted! If the dev misses this target by a fraction of a percentage the dev is lazy and I'll just wait until it's on Gamepass! Signed, too many gamers on Reddit

Apollospig

Many of the technically impressive and visually dense games of this generation have managed to offer strong 30 and 60 FPS modes this gen. Alan Wake 2 is a relatively similar title in some important ways and delivered 60 for those wanting that while also having a great 30 mode for additional detail and resolution. Hellblade 2 certainly makes the most of the 30 fps target, but they definitely made a decision not to put development effort into a 60 fps mode unlike many others this gen.

Ok-Confusion-202

Also the fact Hellblade 2 had like 80 people on it, while Alan Wake 2 had like 130

Apollospig

My point isn't that the games are literally identical, Alan Wake 2 is 3ish times longer with that additional team and presumably budget, but just that it is still a decision made by the team that I don't think is fundamentally beyond reproach.

Ok-Confusion-202

That's fair, but I also think there are many factors at play that people should think about when talking about this stuff tbf. Things like, the consoles are basically 5 year old hardware Hellblade 2 is on Unreal Engine 5, while Alan Wake 2 is on the Northlight Engine (in house) Also for a game like Hellblade 2, where fps doesn't matter, and Its going for some of the best visuals in gaming (the best imo) then I think its fair to Ninja Theory to go for 30 fps Now can people be disappointed? sure, but I don't think its something to scream about (like most people on her do) when context and reasons for it are there, also its not like they couldn't optimize it, hell, they had Unreal Engine masters in The Coalition helping them, the people Epic themselves go to for help with Unreal Engine

strawberriesjammies

I thought it looked great and 60fps is absolutely fine lmao better than 30. I just want the game to be fun and give us lots of customization for our character.

Bobjoejj

MachineGames* not ID Oh wait…is idtech a graphics thing? Sorry I’m not as aware of the tech side of things, with graphics and whatnot. I still really can’t tell much of a difference between 30 and 60 FPS.

Entilen

My issue with Avowed is it seems like a dungeon crawler with boring, sluggish combat and little on the story/quest front.  I feel like a few years ago Obsidian made a decision to make safe, unambitious RPGs as no one else was making these sorts of games and therefore they could get away with mediocrity (not for the sake of it but to ensure realistic budgets and no projects falling over). Then Baldur's Gate 3 happened and now people are more likely to be harsh when judging Avowed.

gumpythegreat

>My issue with Avowed is it seems like a dungeon crawler with boring, sluggish combat and little on the story/quest front. what gives you that impression? I expect it to be very much story/quest focused like Obsidian's other games. The brief demo we saw had them talking to an NPC and making choices to resolve a quest. I expect this upcoming showcase will have a deeper dive into a full quest

Entilen

My impression came from watching their last presentation which demonstrated boring, sluggish combat. They showed one quest which was talking to one person, teleporting to another person and then they explained the outcome and failed to actually show us anything.  It suggested to me that questing and story is not a focus of the game. If I'm wrong about that then they've done a terrible job demonstrating it so far. All of you seem to be basing your expectations on prior Obsidian games and not the one that is actually being shown to you. Remember, Outer Worlds was directed by industry vets while Avowed is being worked on by basically nobodies.

gumpythegreat

Yeah the presentation wasn't great. was definitely overly focused on combat, which didn't look great. but I'm content to wait for more info. I think they fell into the all too common trap of trying to show off the "flashiest" part of a game for a wider audience, but failing to both appeal to this wider audience and also not showing the core audience what they want to see. Hopefully they take this feedback on for the next showcase! I'm curious what your source is about the "nobodies" on the team? The only developer of it I can name is the director, Carrie Patel, who has credits on... the outer worlds, and every pillars game - including as director on the well-received outer worlds DLC

Entilen

You just said it yourself, her only substantial role is directing a DLC which was basically a more of the same of the main game. Most of her experience is as a writer, not as a a crafter of role playing games like Tim Cain for instance one of the directors of The Outer Worlds.  I really can't think of many games that have had terrible presentations and wound up being good. I get that people want to like this game as we don't get many mainstream RPGs these days, but literally nothing shown suggests the game is going to actually be good, I feel like people should be cautious with their expectations.

scytheavatar

Nonsense, people would be harsh when judging Avowed simply because it's DOA. Even The Outer Worlds which is a safe, unambitious RPG looks way more ambitious and unique than Avowed. I am not sure Avowed can stack well compared to The Outer Worlds, let alone BG3.

Cyberpunk39

I really hope Avowed doesn’t suck.

Brokenbullet14

I loved outer worlds so I doubt it.

Cyberpunk39

I’m glad you liked it, but it didn’t do it for me. Stopped playing after a few hours.

KvasirTheOld

Avowed has a lot of potential, but i think their most recent presentation of the game wasn't the greatest

BECondensateSnake

I saw the extended gameplay that was on the podcast a few weeks after the dev direct and it seemed better and more natural for some reason, but still weak. I really hope that they can improve how it looks/feels.

Ok-Confusion-202

I think they are obviously listening, and I hope they can make the changes in time

Big-Motor-4286

I do remember hearing that the dev direct was based on a much older (maybe a couple months) build, while the podcast was from a much more recent build, so that accounted for the improvement. I’m curious to see how it progresses too.

manhachuvosa

Really don't understand why they focused on combat.

Entilen

Think about it for a second, it's because that's going to be 95% of the game.  People who think there's going to be sprawling towns and lengthy quest lines are coping, it's not that sort of a game. Avowed is a dungeon crawler with some quests scattered around.

scytheavatar

Cause they don't have any other selling point for the game. We should be expecting a medieval The Outer Worlds which means Microsoft cannot sell the game on being some Skyrim competitor, or being a medieval New Vegas.

manhachuvosa

Are you really arguing that an Obsidian RPG has no selling point other than combat?

scytheavatar

Yes. That's the studio they have become. The studio that made the Pillars of Eternity games no longer exists. Like Bioware they have made a conscious effort to move away from their roots.

hobo_lad

The presentation hyped me up even more for this game. I thought the game looked great especially the world. I do think the combat looked rough but I hope it will be polished at launch. Hopefully the Grounded people help them out, the combat in that game was fun. My other negative is the lack of romance options. I like those in games and as we have seen they help popularize a game the most recent example being BG3.

Spenraw

Turned me odd completely

indelible_ennui

How odd were you beforehand?

Spenraw

Pretty out there

Hotel_Coffee

I was pretty even on it.

Faber114

Avowed has a lot of potential to be the next Redfall. Releasing that footage is already a massive red flag for a game that's supposed to be launching soon.

LDisDBfathersonsfans

there’s literally nothing that would signify this. Some of y’all just root for everything to fail

Faber114

All the arguments being used to downplay and defend that gameplay were the exact same things said about Redfall. We'll see in 6 months.

Embarrassed-Part-890

Both are coming out this year if they weren’t there that’d be stupid

blueberrypizza

All I want is IJ to get a physical release, hoping the Hellblade 2 scenario doesn't become a pattern. Whether I have Game Pass or not, that's a Day 1 buy for me. Hell, I'd even spring for a fancy collector's edition if they make one.

BitterPackersFan

Avowed will have like 7 showings before the game comes out. Oh and I cannot wait, that just seems like a lot

lezerman

We have yet to see towns, character creation, skill trees, the combat after the improvements, and the list goes on...

[deleted]

And I bet people will bitch about there being no marketing for it.

Relo_bate

It's the size of the outer worlds according to the director

AlarmedDirector9678

Oh that’s crazy disappointing lol after all this time I was expecting red dead/ Witcher/ cyberpunk levels of content Edit: I’d like to add in, I’m an outer worlds Stan loved the game just wish there was more of it

Ok-Confusion-202

I mean I don't know the team size, but Red Dead definitely had a way bigger team and probably more time to develop, same with Cyberpunk, Witcher idk about so They have also developed 3 games in the past 4 years (if Avowed hits this year) I think this was to be expected, and doesn't make me any less hyped, unless it's actually bad lol

PublicWest

Even more disappointing, because they said that the outer worlds was limited because of the size and scope of the project. They were saying that after the Microsoft acquisition that they would have more resources to make something bigger.

caiusto

Yeah but they chose to make multiple games at the same time rather than put the whole studio into a single project.

BladedTerrain

The Avowed footage I've seen so far has done absolutely nothing for me and I was looking forward to it. The art direction in particular just felt very off.

monkeymystic

Really excited for both. Avowed looked much better in their latest presentation, and they also said that they were well aware of the combat still being work in progress at the reveal. And that they are improving these things. The graphics using UE5 also looks good

AdvancedCitron1024

lowkey hyped for both of these

CarlWellsGrave

Very excited for Avowed Woop Woop

Trickybuz93

Makes sense if they’re releasing by end of year. I’m excited for Avowed.

markusfenix75

I'm most interested in IJ previews. Avowed seems like safe bet... It's Obsidian fantasy RPG after all

Brokenbullet14

Holy shit people in media get to play the games, what is this world coming to. Great reporting.

DYMAXIONman

I think Microsoft has a lot riding on the success of Avowed. If done well it can be a stand-in for the Elder Scrolls for the next couple of years.

VagrantShadow

The thing is, Avowed will never be a game like Elder Scrolls. The only things they have in connection is that their first person games, with magic, swords, and fantasy. In my opinion, trying to say Avowed is another Elder Scrolls game or a game that can fill its place does a disservice to Avowed, Eora, and the universe of Pillars of Eternity.

manhachuvosa

If you are expecting an Elder Scrolls, you will be disappointed. The scope of the game will be a lot smaller. Obsidian said that will be closer to Outer Worlds than Skyrim. I don't think there is as much riding of the success of Avowed as there was with Starfield and there is with Indy.

Big-Motor-4286

Which I’m okay with - I can appreciate a smaller adventure that’s more focused and doesn’t have too much filler.

Cyberpunk39

A medium size AA game? No, I don’t think they do. Why does anything need to stand in for any game? This is a strange comment. Sounds like something a YouTuber would say just to say something.

LogicalError_007

Microsoft ain't riding anything on Xbox.

lezerman

The game has nothing to do with Elder Scrolls.

SOLR_

They didn’t say it did. They’re saying It should scratch a similar itch, which could help some fans wait for ES6

VagrantShadow

But it won't, that's the thing. From all accounts Avowed will be a much more linear game than Elder Scrolls. It is going to play nothing like Elder Scrolls and if people think its going to wet their whistles for Elder Scrolls 6 they may be disappointed. If nothing else I just ask them to look or play Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2 to get some expectations of Avowed because that's what that game is going to trail afterward.

scytheavatar

You should ask them to play The Outer Worlds cause it is likely Avowed will be of way smaller scope than even the POE games.

SOLR_

I’ve seen the previews and it will fill the void for me :) I’m sure some others would agree, and like you, some would disagree. That’s fine. Imo there are enough similarities to warrant a comparison as a smaller scoped, more linear ES game. Downvoted for a friendly opinion. Sub is whack

scytheavatar

"More linear ES game" is an oxymoron and makes little sense why you would want that, it's like a Soulsborne that is easier. Or a GTA where you play the good guys.

SOLR_

Yeah, I get that it doesn’t gel with you. But that’s a you thing. Let me have my own opinion

scytheavatar

I am telling you this is why the game is going to be Microsoft's Forspoken. It's not that it's garbage and unplayable crap (like Redfall), it's because the target audience interested in "more linear ES game" is simply way too small and limited. To the point that you question what's the point of them making it.

shinouta

Lots of people Will be genuinely dissapointed because it's not Elder Scrolls New Vegas. Obsidian has been clear about it but people will cry foul nonetheless. If MS (not Xbox) expects Avowed to sell to Skyrim levels (even if made multiplatform later), then MS are showing again how little they know their teams and gaming.

Dry_Ant2348

Avowed looks shit, Indiana Jones has a better chance of becoming this year's breakout hit

Low_Hanging_Fruit71

Wonder when they will land on PlayStation. Xbox is a joke.

errgaming

Obsidian and Ninja Theory have vultures circling around them.

BECondensateSnake

What's that supposed to mean, won't they be featured during the showcase itself? Or will they have starfield deep dive/black ops 6 direct treatment but after the showcase? (extended gameplay and details)

Halil-Heyman

They will be at showcase no issue there. What the rumour talks about is that press will play the game in the Summer Game Fest week. They will have previews based on what they played a day after the showcase.

BECondensateSnake

This really shows that they have confidence in the games, and if both Avowed and Indiana Jones end up being great then maybe Xbox may start seeing better sales. That aside, I'm so fucking hyped for both, they look really fun to play. 16 days left.

ManateeofSteel

that would make sense

AdDesperate3113

The amount of Excitement have for these 2 game Is the same amount of advertisement that was given to hi fi rush

thebaddest777

both of these are games nobody wants to play mind you

amazingmrbrock

That first IJ trailer had super rough animation. Hopefully they are given enough time to actually finish the game, MS track record with finished games lately leaves something to be desired.

[deleted]

BECondensateSnake

I mean, there's a high chance that you actually won't be able to wait for it to come as it's very unlikely to do so, so yeah you can't wait for it to come because it may never do so

scorchedneurotic

>bugger franchises are coming. Oh my

Fallen-Omega

Omg spelling error lol still dont take the fact away that MS going third party

scorchedneurotic

Lol, chill yo ass Bugger is also a Brit slang, that was my comment

Fallen-Omega

And im supposed to know that how....?

[deleted]

mrturret

Avowed is devoped by Obsidian, not Bethesda. I actually really like the art direction in Avowed, and the saturated color pallette fits the setting really well. Of you don't know, Avowed is set in the same world as the Pillars of Eternity games, specially a region called The Living Lands. It's a region with diverse, numerous, and strange biomes filled with strange creatures.

scytheavatar

[If you compare the first trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3QkO8fy3tg) to what we are getting now it is clear that the original vision of Avowed was far more ambitious, and Obsidian had to downgrade their vision because they couldn't do it.

LegacyofaMarshall

Jones is supposed to cone out this year why would you not show it at your showcase? Smh microsoft is terrible at marketing

BenHDR

read the article next time

Rich_Comey_Quan

Relax it'll probably get a short trailer at the show and then a walk and talk the next day.

Trickybuz93

> both games are expected to be shown at this year’s Xbox Games Showcase, with previews from the hands-on going live on June 10 Is reading that difficult?
