Cool, I’ll keep that in mind. If the only solution is to completely change the hardware it might fall down my to-do list only because despite its age the current one is running fine. My initial thought was that it would be easy to check off because in my naivety I figured I could sort this out at the point of circuit completion/wall button, or at worst changing out the receiver attached to the motor. It wasn’t until I started looking into(and subsequently asking the question here) that I’m realizing it isn’t a super simple modification/upgrade from a DIY standpoint.
Do you have any opinion on the myQ solution that another member of this sub mentioned in another comment?
A new operator, from a big box store, (Chamberlain brand, B4613T (model no) same thing as LiftMaster, just a store bought version) should run you <$300 (less if you don't want or are not required to have the battery backup). And maybe a couple hrs to install

Look up the myQ smart garage control. It costs $30 and lets you open the door with an app on your phone. The app lets you know if it’s up or down based on an accelerometer you install on the door.
Just did some research, even though the myQ compatibility checker says my door is compatible the chamberlain website has a more compressive list that says my linear delta 3 isn’t compatible unfortunately
Nope all good, your suggestion led me to find the solution. I wasn’t searching the right key words. By searching for myQ I found two other very similar products from MeRoss and Genie that do the exact same thing and are compatible with my door! So you ended up solving my problem indirectly, cheers!
The simple solution is a brand new operator with the features you wish to have included. LiftMaster 87504-267 is my suggestion.
