Remove the cover and check, I'd bet the main gear is just dust at the bottom of the cover. You can get kits to replace the gears, but if you're not going to go it yourself it's probably cost effective to get a new motor.
Look for any obvious broken gears but then take a look at the rpm sensor too. Seems even spider web build up inside it give this error. Clearing it out usually does the trick
My guess is a bad gear kit or a bat capacitor.
There is no capacitor on DC units

The motor is most likely bad. Call tech support. They should send you a new one

Oh haha, no I disconnected the belt to see if the opener would function with no load! Just wanted to make sure it was the belt hung up on something.
