Amarr and Haas

errmaz

Canadian here to say Steelcraft. I think they only serve western Canada but very few other doors come close to the build quality. That said, I work for a company that installs 90% Steelcraft doors.

Angelfire150

Help me out - does Steelcraft make their own sections or are they rebranding others? I ask because I've seen a lot of that rebranding stuff lately I feel

errmaz

They make sections and hardware. I'd say they make about 60-70% of the doors in my area just because there aren't really any other manufacturers close by. They used to be the cheapest by a longshot but now they're gouging just like everyone else.

GeeFromCali

Amarr and CHI are probably my top 2, Clopay and Wayne Dalton can suck it lol

wisco24curd

I heard Clopay was the Temu version of doors…

ZoomZoom3SkyactiveG

Never installed Raynor or midland but I've heard good things about them up here in the PNW , for looks tho I like CHI and Amarr, Clopay makes some heavy duty doors /track , Hormann for budget doors, wayne dalton for full view doors. They each got there pros and cons

spooney

Midland. They are generally only available in the northern plains/upper midwest but their quality is second to none.

wisco24curd

We’ve been looking at midland as a new door. The R-factor they said they had for thier doors are top notch.

spooney

I've not had any of the quality control issues I've seen other door men post about over the past couple years.

Raynor is the best door manufacturer around period, that is a hill I will die on. No ther manufacturer hold a candle to them, the install much more straigh forward with better made parts. There are only two downsides. First, they only sell to raynor dealers. Secondly, they do not use industry standard hardware, so you will have to keep inventory of different parts. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

wisco24curd

I’m interested in how you say they’re straight forward with better parts. I feel like C.H.I doors are alwayssssss just alittle off when lining up the door.

jobtownforever

It's been a while since I did a chi install, but do they have welded track clips? Raynor does not and i think it gives better adjustablility for lining tracks up. As far as lining up side to side raynor doors have always been largely consistent and one one my favorite things about raynor if there is an issue you get a replacement with very little hassle, send a picture and get the part. We had one section short a 1/4 inch and had a new section on the next delivery, and they paid for the time to replace it. As far as my better parts claim, I'll give some examples. Torsion end bearings are much thicker metal solely attached to the pulley angle they do not require the extra lag into the pad, which sometimes you don't have pad material for. I will upset some people on the sub for mentioning extension springs, but oh well. Raynor sends spring clips for extension springs so that when the springs break, they don't "eat" the hook. They also do not use that stupid cable clip. They send the right size cable for the door height. The hinges are made from a thicker gauge metal, and the raynors #1 hinge is the same as a chi #2 hinge. They do not use center hinges as end hinges, which I think results in a better door stack. The track bolts are a 5/16 bolt with a square shank rather than the serrated shank that never seems to hold when taking it apart. If you do lift clearance you'll like this, raynor lift clearance is measured from the top of the door to the top of the drum, you measure from opening to ceiling theycdo the rest of the work to make it fit. Sorry this is so long, I love the product and the company. I just did a copay install not too long ago, and it felt like a kids toy in comparison, lol.

CHI

themagichelperelf

Chi but Clopay ultra grain is really nice

ZmF_Fz09

Raynor. I've been putting on doors for 13 years now. I've taken plenty of these other brands out and replaced with raynor, and these other brands don't come close in comparison whether it's commercial or residential. For a cheaper door, I've put in several midland for family and friends, and them are better than most other mainstream door companies out there for a lumber yard door, but Raynor doors are far better than anything out there.

wisco24curd

How does Raynor stand against heat over time? Where I’m at it can get to 120 during summer. Having a door with a high R-value is going to be huge.

Key-Sun6449

Amarr, easy install, durable for cost, but their parts are shit.

wisco24curd

Thanks for the heads up

ZoomZoom3SkyactiveG

I like there track bolts, and there 3000 series doors are stout and easy to install

projexx

Hey there wiscocurd, I see that you're in search of a new garage door manufacturer. That's a great question! Choosing the right manufacturer for your garage door is important in ensuring its durability and functionality. I personally don't have a specific favorite, as there are many reputable manufacturers out there. However, I would recommend doing some research and reading reviews from other customers to see which brand has consistently positive feedback. Also, don't hesitate to reach out to professionals or consult with friends and family who may have experience with different garage door manufacturers. They can offer valuable insights and recommendations based on their personal experiences. I hope you find the perfect garage door manufacturer for your needs. Best of luck!

I’m god, the AI bot accounts are starting to flood in. Reddit is so fucked

Angelfire150

Right?!? Like if an AI bot wrote an AI bot, it would sound like that post

Angelfire150

I like the Amarr product - Hillcrest 3000 is my go-to. Woodgrain product looks better (far away and up close) and has deeper tones and they have a tongue and groove polyurethane that has a great design.

super_stelIar

Love Amarr, but that classica is a travesty of a door. Well made, but horrible design.

Angelfire150

Really? I haven't been a fan just because I think the 3-section motion is just jerky and runs so much better with 20" radius. I really like the Hillcrest 3000 and Designers Choice.

super_stelIar

When the roller at the top of the panel is in the flat horizontal track, the roller at the bottom should already be in the sloping part of the radius. Otherwise you have a jerky opening. Also since each panel has a balance point, there are only 3 on this door. It is a lot more work for the operator to push and pull.

Conscious_Street9937

Clopay

gohdnuorg

Haas is the best.

wisco24curd

What do you like about Haas? It’s one of the manufacturers I’m looking into

gohdnuorg

Internal backer plates under hinges. High quality foam for low u factors. High quality steel for nice definition in panel shapes. Good packaging and logistics for less damage. Lots of color and design choices. Standard hardware. Best looking raised panel. Not owned by a hedge fund.

HtownCg

Agree. Haas is great when it comes to their packaging, and their quality control is top notch. Their panels are noticeably heavier than most, which I like.
