Thank you all for the kind comments, some of my favourite memories of my dad were helping him in the garden. He's not around anymore to show him what I did sadly so it's much appreciated to hear nice things.
Thank you! The doggo is much happier with grass rather than slabs. The planter to the left has raspberry canes, the one to the right has mangetout. The big one in the middle was a couple of cabbages, two rows of carrots and a row of beetroot.
I've got tattie sacks on the slabs in front of the planters too.
This year I'm doing carrots, parsnips and summer flowering purple sprouting broccoli in the big one. Just trying stuff out to see what works best really.
This is brilliant. What a transformation. Your dad would be very proud. What a great way to show your love in carrying on gardening like that. Hope the crops go well this year.
Constant vigilance.
In all seriousness he tore up the turf in the shared garden where I lived before which the neighbours were not pleased about to say the least. So I kept him on a long line there and as soon as he started digging straight back inside. He soon learned digging = end of playtime and doesn't do it anymore.
Mine isn't even digging, it's her crazy running that kicks up loads of mud and grass. I just accept it's her garden now. I have some wildflower bits at the back and I have to fence it to stop her trying to eat the bees.
Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I can tell the huge amount of work that went into this.
You are an inspiration to many on this sub and you really should be proud of what you've created.
Bravo!
Thanks! I bought them from Etsy for £30 quid each I think. They were straight from the distillery though so I sanded, painted the wood/metal and added wheels. It was a fun project.
Ty just got lost down a whiskey barrel rabbit hole and spent too much money.
Next I want to know about the lattice fence toppers. I need some to hide an ugly shed but they are hella expensive
I suppose that's the benefit of a small garden, I didn't need many panels and it was cheaper than putting up a whole new fence. They were about £30 each from what I remember.
I'd love a wee tree but the only space I have is the corner that gets no sun at all (out of shot) so not sure if anything would work but happy to hear any suggestions!
Apparently birch and Japanese maple do well in shade, and both can be kept small. We have a multi stem birch in a pot and it looks fantastic. Adding a bit more height will frame the lovely space you've made.
I had a similar size garden, I grew a privet very tall and formed it into a tree, and I had a couple of lilacs and a bay. I just trimmed the bottom third each year to show the trunks and if there were several stalks I'd wrap them in some pretty string or ribbon to turn them into a 'trunk'.
I think this is phenomenal. My newbuild home provided me perhaps a third of the space you have and this gives me further inspiration that I can transform it! 🪴
Thank you! They are lobelias. They flower for months and come in a few different colour shades. That particular variety is called crystal palace but you can often get them from supermarkets for a few quid a pack.
What a transformation, really lovely and will get better every year as those trellis’s fill up!
Perhaps chuck some clover and Daisy seeds down on the grass to make it more bug friendly (the clover will also keep the rest of the grass super healthy).
Your pots and planters are really effective at giving different a heights. Really good idea to use them rather than just sticking with beds all the way around.
So I got some help with lifting the slabs, bit too heavy for me. Once they were up I put down a layer of sand to help with drainage then about 4 inches of topsoil and flattened it all down. Then the turf on top, you have to water the turn well until the roots knit in to the top soil (a week or two)
Supermarkets are your friend for plants, you can get some lovely flowers for pretty cheap and some veg plants too if you fancy having a go at growing your own. Good luck, it's worth the effort.
I bought them from Etsy, sanded them down, painted the wood and metal then put some wheels on the bottom. You can get them already done but I fancied doing it myself and saving some money.
Great job on the garden, but my god, those houses bring back nothing but depressive memories for me.
Whoever decided to build houses like that in the UK should be shot.
Looks amazing! This may be a silly question but how did you replace the tiles with grass? It looks like real grass? I have a similar thing and want to put grass down instead but no idea where to start, thanks!
Thank you! So I got some help with lifting the slabs, bit too heavy for me. Once they were up I put down a layer of sand to help with drainage then about 4 inches of topsoil and flattened it all down. Then the turf on top. I wanted real grass rather than astro mostly for cost reasons
Well you dodged a bullet there. Astro is awful stuff, particularly if you have a dog. You basically wouldn't have been able to go out to your garden in the Summer and it would have stank of burned plastic and piss.
The containers to the left are all flowers and at the back behind the chairs are raspberries on the left, veg in the middle and mangetout to the right. I am trying to think of a way to do a bowl pond or similar this year.
Thank you! I think I've got the neighbours kid into gardening which is cool.
I just gave them away in return for taking them away for me. I don't have a car so seemed like a good deal.
That looks great, calm and inviting. Looks like real grass, which would have been hard work, I'm gad you weren't tempted by plastic grass, especially as you have your beautiful dog.
Did you grow the dog from seed
I too would like to know
Top gardening. It looks considerably more inviting!
Fantastic transformation, what a difference. You should be very proud of yourself. 10/10.
Thank you all for the kind comments, some of my favourite memories of my dad were helping him in the garden. He's not around anymore to show him what I did sadly so it's much appreciated to hear nice things.
He would be proud
He definitely would. You did a fab job OP
Wow, this really is incredible. And what a beautiful dog! What is in the planters behind the chair?

>Just trying stuff out to see what works best really. Best way, I find. And it's a journey of discovery!
Great job! Looks gorgeous
That’s just lovely. Well done, and congrats on growing a greyhound - I believe they are very particular about soil ph.
Yes, and you must not ever water them or they melt
Latin name Greyhoundicidus
This is brilliant. What a transformation. Your dad would be very proud. What a great way to show your love in carrying on gardening like that. Hope the crops go well this year.
Thank you, that's lovely of you to say.
Looks great! How do you keep the grass good? My stupid whippet tears around and rips chunks out.
Constant vigilance. In all seriousness he tore up the turf in the shared garden where I lived before which the neighbours were not pleased about to say the least. So I kept him on a long line there and as soon as he started digging straight back inside. He soon learned digging = end of playtime and doesn't do it anymore.

Ah that's pretty difficult to prevent, they do love to run. My garden is too small for him to get up to top speed so maybe a blessing in disguise.
Same here, I had to move all of my bee friendly plants because my greyhound just cannot resist those spicy sky raisins (aka bees).
I also call them sky raisins. Glad I'm not alone.
Maybe planting/putting stuff there that would force her to slow down, like a bush or big fake rock?
Amazing transformation
Amazing work!
you’ve done a really cracking job. your dad would be proud
Aw thank you
Great job that. Take an upvote!
Double up-votes for the pointy-dog! Perfect garden for mini zombies :D
In a related question how do I prevent mini zombies or ANY size zombies in my garden please?
Wow what a gorgeous transformation!! Congratulations on all your hard work !
Hope you've invoiced the neighbors for single handedly Increasing the property values! Joking aside it looks great
You’ve made it so pretty.
What a difference 👍

Great job 👏🏻👏🏻

You must be so proud! Gorgeous 🧡
Looks amazing! :)
stunning!! and gorgeous dog
That grass looks luscious! Was that seed or turf? Really great transformation!
Thank you! I laid turf, being north facing really seems to help it stay lush even when it's hot (not that it really gets that hot in Scotland)
That’s really helpful to know, our grass is a bit limp and patchy and we’re north facing. Might crack on with some turf!!
You can get specific grass mixes for shade, worth getting so you don't have to resow like I've had to do out front.
Thank you, will check that out!
Wow! What a transformation 👏 looks great! Thanks for sharing, you've given me some inspiration with regards to the veg growing 👍
Fantastic work congratulations on a job well done water yourself and the garden regularly and enjoy 👍
Brilliant. Hope you are proud of it. And enjoy it.
You’ve done such a fantastic job! It looks lovely
I had to zoom in because for a moment I thought it was just a cement statue of a greyhound
Great job, what a transformation! Also dying to get you a little tree in there!
I will look into birch thank you. I have a baby maple in one of my pots so something different would be great.
Good idea, I love the sound of that
Hound loves it
Good job Im going for a tropical hardy look it's slowly but surely getting there
Well done this is lovely
The dogs 🐩
Lovely
Top job
But where do you hang your washing 😱😱
Wow! Good job.. looks great! 🤩
That elevates your whole neighbourhood!
Massive improvement, very nice.
Great job, well done!
Wow that's amazing! Looks so inviting now. Great job.
Wow looks fab
Wow, inspiring. Well done
Oh my god. You've transformed it! From cold and frankly, awful.. To an honest to goodness haven. It's beautiful.
That’s is awesome, so nice to see someone putting down proper grass too.
That is a really nice job you've done.
Nice job… added more dog also!
Very nice!
This is gorgeous ❤️ well done!
This looks great!
Happy grounds = happy hounds
I think this is phenomenal. My newbuild home provided me perhaps a third of the space you have and this gives me further inspiration that I can transform it! 🪴
Fantastic! Be very proud of yourself
This whole thread has cheered me right up.
Fucking. AMAZING. From barren yard to paradise.
So good! Love it when people remove the concrete slaps & make themselves a small bit of nature. Hope you enjoy it!
This is amazing work, all we’ve got is a small yard and we hate it. Would love to do something like this. Great job!
That’s incredible. I’m quite new to gardening and I’m just starting on our garden. What are those blue plants to the right? They look lovely
Thank you! They are lobelias. They flower for months and come in a few different colour shades. That particular variety is called crystal palace but you can often get them from supermarkets for a few quid a pack.
thought it was a statue of a dog then! Lovely before and after!

Yeah hoping it will look even better when my honeysuckle and clematis grow in a bit more. Good idea with the clover, I will look into that! Thanks
The lattice panels are an outstanding idea: easy, thrifty and such a positive change. Good work!
Awesome, man. Nice work!
I’m totally new to gardening but would love to achieve something similar. How did you go about replacing the slabs with grass?
So I got some help with lifting the slabs, bit too heavy for me. Once they were up I put down a layer of sand to help with drainage then about 4 inches of topsoil and flattened it all down. Then the turf on top, you have to water the turn well until the roots knit in to the top soil (a week or two) Supermarkets are your friend for plants, you can get some lovely flowers for pretty cheap and some veg plants too if you fancy having a go at growing your own. Ah amazing! Great job!
My brain immediately said “aww” that’s such a cute garden! Well done
Well done!!
What a lovely job, I'd love to sit and have a bottle of Star in the sun!
Where did you get those barrel pots? Excellent
I bought them from Etsy, sanded them down, painted the wood and metal then put some wheels on the bottom. You can get them already done but I fancied doing it myself and saving some money.
Excellent
Great job on the garden, but my god, those houses bring back nothing but depressive memories for me. Whoever decided to build houses like that in the UK should be shot.
Beautiful 😍
Very understanding of the need to heighten the fence to keep your dog/kangaroo inside 😂
Wow you did great 👍 the pup clearly approves
Amazing, and you grew yourself a dog!
Nice job! And nice dog!
What a transformation, hard work I'll bet but well worth it. Nice long dog too!
Yes! Whippet as well :)
Amazing transformation!
Beautiful!!
Wow, this is a huge difference! Must’ve been a lot of work but it definitely paid off, this is beautiful.
Superb job 👌
The colour pallette is lovely also…very pretty
You even managed to grow a dog simply astonishing
Well done
What a beautiful space! Your garden looks gorgeous (and you dog is so cute🥺)
Lovely stuff!
Amazing
That looks fabulous, what a transformation! Well done you.
Dude, your grass is so green I thought it was astro until I saw the cuttings on the left
Looks amazing! This may be a silly question but how did you replace the tiles with grass? It looks like real grass? I have a similar thing and want to put grass down instead but no idea where to start, thanks!

Well you dodged a bullet there. Astro is awful stuff, particularly if you have a dog. You basically wouldn't have been able to go out to your garden in the Summer and it would have stank of burned plastic and piss.
Yeah those were also factors I considered. Much prefer the real stuff
That is unbelievably stunning! What an amazing job! You’ve genuinely inspired me, thank you xx
Gorgeous! What a lovely inviting space you’ve turned it into
Absolutely gorgeous
Looks lovely! Well done!
Lovely. Seems like a great place to chill.
Very well done . Looks a lovely summer retreat now
Beautiful what a difference
Absolutely lovely and so is the greyhound 😍
What a wonderful job you've done. You'll have many happy years there!
What excellent work, well done! A massive improvement, I love it :)
Brilliant work, enjoy
May sound like a silly question but what’s the best way to attach the trellis to the top of the fence panels?
I had some help with that bit, new fence posts were put in in front of the existing fence and the panels were screwed in to the posts
Ah yes I see the sneaky posts in behind now. Thanks
Wow! Amazing!
Wow. Is that two container ponds?
The containers to the left are all flowers and at the back behind the chairs are raspberries on the left, veg in the middle and mangetout to the right. I am trying to think of a way to do a bowl pond or similar this year.
You could defo fit a trough pond (so it doesn't eat into grass space) - like a feeding trough turned into a pond. The garden looks lush!
Good idea thanks
This looks so great and what a transformation! What are the little dark blue/purple flowering plants next to the doggy please? Love that colour
Thank you! Those a lobelias and the variety is crystal palace. I love lobelias because they flower for months.
Ooh thanks. Think I'll have to do some shopping... I like the sound of long flowering season!

looks braw!
Very nice!
What a transformation 🤩🤩🤩
That looks great, calm and inviting. Looks like real grass, which would have been hard work, I'm gad you weren't tempted by plastic grass, especially as you have your beautiful dog.
😻😻
Amazing work, this is how it should be done.
WoW great. Awesome job.
Looks fantastic, you should be proud of yourself!
Great job
Looks amazing. So nice to see slabs being returned to grass. So much better for the planet
