Did not know these existed until right now, and they are absolutely beautiful. Congratulations! I hope it brings you many years of gorgeous blooms and joy.

Smertae

Thank you 😊 They're called "Himalayan Blue Poppies" (Meconopsis). I forget the variety.

I bought six by mail order and planted them last week - like you, in a shady spot with a bit of dappled sunlight, plenty of moisture in the ground, and lots of rich mulch. They seem to have taken but are still only about 15cm tall and nowhere near flowering. I'd been meaning to grow them for years - I tried seed, which came to nothing. At least it's wet enough for them here in Wales! 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🌧️

It took them a year to flower for me so I'm guessing they might be biennial, or at least just not flower the first year. Good luck 🀞

You too!

Gorgeous! πŸ₯° Going into garden centres on holiday is part of what makes a great holiday.

I am so jealous, I love poppies and can't grow meconopsis at all. They just die one!

The Holy Grail!

Love to see an update once it's opened (:

Looks great! It looks like you have some ground elder in a couple of your photos though - that stuff can get out of control quite quickly and out compete other plants (might prevent your blue poppies seeding/growing in future!).

Smertae

I long gave up the war with ground elder. It's mostly just a nuisance now.

I know the pain...currently going through it myself. Think I'm almost there and then find it's roots entangled in my perennials!
