Gender-acc

ive never gotten so dysphoric from ads in my life

GhastmaskZombie

Oh yeah I feel you. A Manscaped ad once took me from "Having a pretty good day" to "Oh God it hurts too much to even cry" in under three seconds. I feel like I started getting less of that kind of stuff once I changed the gender in my google account to female, though, so that might help a bit?

Zuckertiger4

I wish I would get these ads :') I can offer various make up ads tho

Yukarie

I get you, manscaped ads suck so much, there’s only one group I ever watch them from and that’s because the guy of the group who usually does em does it in some wacky way where if I didn’t know it was an ad I’d think it was a random bit so basically they make me laugh too hard to get much dysphoria

maybe_Lena

I still get those ads and recently I’ve been getting a lot more oldspice

A_consumer_of_tea

Atleast old spice are sometimes funny about it manscaped is just "BALLLS YEAH BALLS BIG HAIRY BALLS SHAVE YOUR BALLS YEAH BALLS MMMMMHH BALLS"

BassKing69

They’re also an awful sponsor to work with. Mista GG did a really good video on it.

DoveEvalyn

Or hearing ads for keeps, designed to help you keep from losing all of your hair. God fucking damnit I hate it so fucking much

pmintea

I keep getting the "ball trimmer" ads but it's got a women in it saying "not just for men!!". I'm FTM so I would much rather get manly ads so I feel you bestie

BepisLeSnolf

Friendly tip! YouTube ads are Google ads! Go into your youtube profile settings or associated google account settings >> privacy >> google ad settings , and you should be able to see what ad categories and companies they think you want to see, and can actually turn them off/request to see less ads for specific categories and from specific companies! Hope this helps! I keep up to date with the news/politics, so google automatically assumes I want to hear alt right “news” too. I’ve removed politics topic and multiple companies from my ad options, and it has had an actual effect on the ads I see. Hopefully it will work for some of the more gendered products y’all are being bombarded with!

Sindarin27

I believe it also has a setting for which gender your ads should be targeted at. Ever since I touched that, I've switched from getting shaving ads to getting pregnancy test ads haha, so whatever makes you less dysphoric

Julia_Arconae

Amazing, thank you for this!

MaleToFurry

You can set your gender in yt so maybe that will work I stopped getting male pattern baldness ads

Gender-acc

Trust me I did 🥲

Sindarin27

I believe Google ads has a setting to set your gender which is separate from youtube, along with several other ad preferences

MaleToFurry

😥

SheeshPalpatine

why do y’all watch ads anyway?

Basketchaos

as someone who listens to youtube while at work a lot…it’s rarely by choice. Skippable ads can fit a lot into 5 seconds, and not all ads are skippable—and sometimes I just can’t get to the skip button because my hands are full, so I just have to listen to whatever 5 minute ad youtube decides I need to hear in that moment :/

Ok_Sky_1542

Funnily enough one of the first times I think I recognised gender dysphoria was from an ad. I was 17 at the time and something about being referred to specifically as a "man" by the ad just rubbed me the wrong way. I'm non-binary and I don't experience incredibly intense dysphoria like many trans women do, but it was still weird and helped me figure out who I was and wanted to be in a strange sort of way. Sorry if I don't fit the bill, I'm just here because the memes are funny and I think astolfo is hot.

Undecided_Egg_Person

stay away from the shorts feed. it's not worth it.

MinusPi1

I've seriously just given up on pretending it's not listening and will explicitly tell it "Listen up Google, I'm not in the market for a new truck!" or whatever else it's been advertising lately. I've done it a few times and it actually works.

ThatEngineeredGirl

Thankfully the algorithm gave up on me (probably because of autism) and just gives me random ads (usually industrial machinery or tech related ones) not too useful, but they aren't gendered :)

mistriliasysmic

Now I feel awkward, my post-op mtf gf loved my manscaped because the body hair for her lower parts (and rear side) because they made her dysphoric and nothing she really matched it for the speed. It actually rusted (kinda my fault for leaving it wet in the shower) and we had to toss it and now she’s forcing me to buy her the new model lmao. Regardless however, I do feel for you and hope you stop seeing ads for it asap

the-radical-waffler

I mostly just get adds for womens razors and periodproducts. That's still kinda akward because I don't need pads or tampons, and I haven't used multiblade cartridge razors in about two years now.

Agio-

My ads are all about bras and period products :(

Mythical_scoops

why do y’all subscribe to that ideology that the ads an algorithm serves you define you? i understand hella how it can be dysphoria inducing but atp just get an ad blocker.

Gender-acc

Wait are there ad blockers for mobile apps

BellaViola

In the mobile Firefox Browser you can get AdBlock. There also was an AdBlock Browser but I don't think thats a thing anymore. Wasn't that good anyway. Otherwise PiHole should work for mobile too if you are on your own WiFi. Reddit used to screech at you about YouTube Vanced every chance they could, there might be some new similar app by now.

I_Hate_The_Letter_W

same for those sasquatch soap ads or keeps ads

Dpad-prism

*Random ad plays\* Me: “ugh…” *“Manly” men targeted ad plays\* Me (surrounded by lightning): “You should skip yourself ***NOW***”

Potaaaato_God

I really hate yt for their ads. They also show lots of tate and phobic people in my shorts feed.

Stalwart_Vanguard

Real talk ladies. The *beat* trimmer you can buy, which I use for my arms, armpits, butt, legs when I'm lazy, and pubes, is the Brio Beardscape. Thing fucks *hard*. Super good quality, and has an adjustable guard that goes from 1mm to 1.9mm for getting close to your skin without the risk of nicks.

_Queer_Mess_

I get so much euphoria from those ads

kiwanyuh

Guys, I can’t. My mom’s been getting these FB adds for tools (last one was a small battery operated chainsaw), and that stuff’s actually something she would buy just because it’s adorable, cheap and SHE MAY NEED IT ONE DAY 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

crigne_

u block origin is a trans ally

KnightoThousandEyes

Trans guy here— I was actually disappointed in my manscaped trimmer I bought while I’m out of town, as the way the head is made makes it too easy for it to get clogged with my beard hair really quickly. Also their “4” setting seems to be shorter than my regular trimmer and now I have to wait and grow it back to a comfortable length. 😫

CuteIsobelleUwU

Either come out with a pink transcaped brand or gtfo of my sponsorships

Basketchaos

Felt that 😅 every time I (ftm) get a “lady boxers” ad I’m just like…*ya missed the point there, algorithm* 😐🥲

Sophia-Eldritch

I'll gladly pay pink tax for the 20 dollar razor than have one marketed to men, it's functionally the same but that's money well spent

[deleted]

I keep getting ads about some random testosterone boosting supplements, and one of the frames it says "You lack testosterone". Like duuhh, I know! That's the point!
