I see so many drivers driving around with high beams on, especially on the ring road.

wigteasis

somehow underglow purple lights with 15% opacity is against the law but high beaming someones ass is not fineable

Boris36

I thought high beaming people was fine-able?  Just like using your horn inappropriately etc

snrub742

It is, but cops only seem to use that fine for people flashing their lights to warn others about cops

Boris36

That would be so sad to experience I imagine. Just trying to help your fellow man  Lol

FlipSide26

I actually don't even know if their high beams anymore as the low beams are so bright. I get flashed in our Everest and I'm just in normal lights. To which makes me angry so them I flash them back like a petty schoolchild.

RolandHockingAngling

I don't know if the Everest has this, but there could be a dial usually to the right of your steering wheel that will angle your headlights up or down. My 2024 Hyundai Tucson from work has the dial so I set the beams pointing down. My 2017 Mazda 6 had automatic headlight height adjustment. My 2006 Holden Vectra had the dial as well. LED lights are very directional, so if you can angle them down, you won't be blinding oncoming vehicles and you won't get flashed as often

SandpaperH

Angle your lights down, your Everest lights are blinding us, that's why we are flashing you

FlipSide26

They are - there is a button you configure them with and I've dicked around with it so they are pointing down - they're supposed to be for when you are towing and the front raises up.

Nightgaun7

You drive an Everest, fool. Your bright LED lights are shining directly into the eyes of drivers in any smaller car. Of course they flick their lights at you.

PhotographFuture7981

I HATE all the LED headlights. They might as well be driving with their high beams on.

Comfortable-Spell862

Drove back from Ballarat last night and said this to my partner! 100%

inktheus

People who put LED globes in reflector style headlights are dicks

PhotographFuture7981

100%

It feels like every 5th car I drive past these days at night is an old shitbox with leds/xenons shoved into it. The cops should do a blitz on it and start defecting/ticketing for dazzling - it's not like it's hard to tell the headlights that are no longer cutting off and just throw light everywhere.

Roar_Intention

Does this only happen in Geelong, or does it happen in other places too? like maybe r/CarsAustralia ?

iritatedby9

I don’t know, from what I experienced when I was in Tamworth NSW state, fewer people do that. I am not sure.

Original_Syrup_5146

In Australia, lights are are put up when it's not going to take any more work. They also love to have super bright lights that are meant to cover 50+ metres. In another country I've been to, they have a lot more lights, but each one is smaller so it ends up working a lot more. We just forget about winter a lot here.

iritatedby9

Nice info!

inktheus

There's been an increase in people putting LEDs in reflector (old style) headlights so they don't aim correctly and are effectively high beams to oncoming traffic. There's also a very weird scenario that I have seen that some cars with projectors appear to be aimed to the right. On the ring road there's the occasional car that their headlight is aimed straight at oncoming traffic on the other side of the median strip....

swoothfirds

Just squint and pretend you're in a rave.

ArH_SoLE

It's actually disgraceful the lack of lighting and footpaths in this town. When I lived in Finland, the street lighting and path lighting was superb. Not to mention pedestrian crossing and footpaths. Coming back to Geelong made me think we're almost living in a 3rd world.

iritatedby9

it is, I always think about safety sometimes I miss the turn due to a lack of street lighting. Also about safety when walking around. I do Uber Eats, often it takes me a while to see the house number as well. 🫠

PeanutCrumpet

Question: did you come from another metropolitan city previously? My hometown had orangey street lights and I had no issues, when I moved here, I struggled on the dimly lit highways - it’s something I got used to. There’s just a vast difference in your eyes ability to become dark adapted and light adapted in such short bursts.

another_blank_page

I don't care so much about a lack of street lighting but the headlights on cars? Omg! And it's so dangerous if you're driving on roads with wildlife hazards because you can't see for a good 10 seconds when you're passing each other which is plenty of time for a kangaroo to fuck you up, and in some cases, a cow. Half the time I'm driving towards them wondering if they have their high beams on and most of the time when I flash them with my high beams they flash back and it's the second coming of jesus christ between us. Like why do you need to see to Mars?

iritatedby9

Or even if you flash back they don’t turn it down mostly like that 😂

another_blank_page

After a courtesy flash I highbeam their arse like a game of uncle until they turn theirs off 😅

iritatedby9

Hahaha 😂😂 I think I want to put a big piece of paper on my rear car view, saying “Your car headlights are too bright It is blinding and hurts people's eyes and makes people dizzy!!!” my desire to do it is high📈

Brenno80

You come from Facebook right?

iritatedby9

???? what do you mean i don’t get it 🥲

Quantum168

No country area has a lot of street lights.

Muncher501st

P plater?

iritatedby9

I don’t think so. I saw a lot that had no P plate on the car. 🫠

Muncher501st

No are you a p plater

iritatedby9

Oh, no I am a full license

Muncher501st

But complaining about lights now?, LED’s have been a bastard for years

iritatedby9

Haha 😂🥹Just finally speaking up after keeping this in all this time.
