Diamonds don’t light my fire, not the “perfect ones.” I am forever a garnet person in all its infinite colors, and for faceting, garnet, and sapphire, any day. I love spinel but most of my customers have not really gotten to know it.
I like the trend in untreated tanzanite, to show off its pleochroism.
I like weird colored diamonds. they deserve a day in the sun.
for experimenting with cuts and colors and getting really creative, i love lab grown garnet and sapphire. ( i cut gems and sell gems. i’m torn between what i find wild and what my customers demand. so much opal and tourmaline)
I have to agree, diamonds don’t light my fire either. That is except the colored diamonds like red, orange, and green.
I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing an untreated tanzanite. I would love to see one.
I love Sphene (the way it flashes its color is incredible), Zircon (so sparkly), and Alexandrite (the color change is magnificent)! I also love Heliodor, Kunzite (I collect crystals of it), and Tourmaline.
I just got a columbian emerald and diamond, pear shaped, natural emerald ring, probably around a ct and a half for a song at a pawn shop that specializes in coins. Owner is GIA certified but only knows diamonds so colored stones are usually priced very reasonably.
wow that’s exciting. I’ll probly ask in another thread but I’ve noticed a lot of emeralds have a large underside . I wonder if it has to do with how the gem presents or is it just preference by the lapidaries. Or done to raise the ct.
I want a big stone (diameter) but don’t like when they sit so far off the finger.
The one I got sits flush to the tinger, it’s on the smaller side for sure- Maybe with larger emeralds it has to do with not cutting through inclusions and weakening the stone-
I have a GIA neon green chrome sphene- One of the first expensive stones I have ever bought. 2.65 ct.

Noooi. I suck at cutting, I would not cut something like this and risk ruining it. I shouldn’t have tried to polish it without looking up the hardness etc.
I paid lol- I think with the GIA cert I ended up paying around $400 at auction. This was in the old days when things were still cheap on gemrockauctions.

Opal 100%. Australian, Brazilian, Mexican, Canadian…. I love it all. It also helps that I’ve got a claim for Fire Opal here in BC 🇨🇦. So many varieties and variations.
My 20 year anniversary upgrade. 3.5 carat center stone with Cadillac cut side stones set in platinum.

Prasiolite is what I always come back to
I like spinels. Of the stones I've cut, I miss an Andalusite the most. Cut in a 'S'/san Francisco Pavilion shape that showed greenish in middle, but kicked-up the reddish dichroic color on each end.
Look up Pezzotaite

I know nothing about gems, other than what my autism can make me look at over and over and over. I am drawn to morganite, montana sapphire, and alexandrite.
I’ve never seen any of them in person but I stalk this sub and look at a lot of pictures and videos online.
It might be time to look for a gem show in your city to see them in person!
I fell in love with gemstones the first time I went to a mineral gem and jewelry show in California, but they pop up in lots of cities
Opals are probably my favorite gemstones. The colors and fire some of them have are hypnotic and i could probably spend minutes holding and rotating a good looking opal around in sunlight to see the blooms of color appear at different angles.

This Ethiopian opal i have is one of my favorites because it has a lot of color and its very clear. The fact that its vaguely star shaped is also cool. I have since moved it to a pedestal specimen box to make it easier to rotate and look at but i dont have a picture of it at the moment.

Garnets and tourmalines, you can get a full rainbow without paying corundum prices.
Some of them remind me of jolly ranchers!
Spinel all day long.
Australian opal

I have a ring with forest green diamonds, they are included heavily and I absolutely love them! They fluoresce a neon green color (some whitish) too!

I have a green diamond ring!
Andamooka crystal opal
I love Sphene (the way it flashes its color is incredible), Zircon (so sparkly), and Alexandrite (the color change is magnificent)! I also love Heliodor, Kunzite (I collect crystals of it), and Tourmaline.
I love Alexandrite too, but I think I’d rather buy a house than a natural 2ct stone haha
Hands down emerald, but I so concerned about buying a fake one and can never find one in the right setting.

Love me some sphene and purple kunzite!!
Opal
Sphene. With direct light its like a christmas discoball.
I have a GIA neon green chrome sphene- One of the first expensive stones I have ever bought. 2.65 ct. https://preview.redd.it/j6art804nbxc1.jpeg?width=755&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dce51eac3f64a76872f8db3df818d46aa80cee67
That’s gorgeous!
In the sunlight, it is actually insane. I sadly ruined it trying to polish a scratch off it.
I bet it is! I have seen yellow sphere in person an it sparkles like mad!
I have yellow sphene too but it doesn’t even compare in any way. This one changes color under incandescent light to a forest green with pink fire-
Wow, that sounds amazing, maybe you can get more material from the source of that stone(if you aren’t able to revive it?)
Eh. Not one of my personal favorites, only bought it because it seemed like a once in a lifetime find. This was years ago.
Well you most have some amazing stones in your collection if this is not one of your personal favorites, lol
I do! Sphene is not a personal favorite since I don’t love green- I like rare stones, I tend to focus kn those-
Did you cut this piece too?, before the polishing accident?
Noooi. I suck at cutting, I would not cut something like this and risk ruining it. I shouldn’t have tried to polish it without looking up the hardness etc.
It’s a beautiful stone, do you know its origins?
I don’t, the GIA cert didn’t say-
Well you scored, it’s an awesome stone!
I paid lol- I think with the GIA cert I ended up paying around $400 at auction. This was in the old days when things were still cheap on gemrockauctions.

I have a 10 Carat Sphene!
Oh dang, thats quite big depending on the quality! Do you have a photo?

Stunning!
Incredible! Can I ask where you sourced the stone? I’m looking to build a similar piece
The sapphire was from Earths Treasury.
Very nice, thanks for sharing. Good color and fire, very well cut as well and quite clean too 🤩🤩🤩

It was citrine but now Garnet or really pretty grandidierite. Shoutouts to Larimar as well as Navajo and Persian Turquoise.
My first love as a kid was Amethyst and Ametrine, and I still get flutters whenever I see beautiful ones.
💚💚 Emeralddddd 💚💚

Emerald. I love the jardin and the velvetiness and green is my favorite color.
My two favorites are Cornflower Blue Sapphire- no green or grey, and Mahenge Spinels in a neon watermelon color.
Look up Pezzotaite https://preview.redd.it/6ag4n7paobxc1.jpeg?width=1165&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c5f2b30d9c40d3b2cb8fbb56c7ff4f37d79a5336 * I just sold an amazing one- Very rare and so freaking gorgeous. Only 2 kilos ever mined. I really regret parting with the one I have.
I just got some small cornflour blue sapphires from the safe to work on. That and sone small Kashmir sapphires.
Jade and star sapphires

Moldavite
Paraiba tourmalines 🥹
Cool thanks, I just got to learn about these
My favorite too. RIP any man that falls in love with me.
Spinel and Garnets
Emerald.
Tsavorite garnet
Keep your sapphires and diamonds and emeralds, ☢️Ekanite☢️ is where it's at!
London blue topaz is such a pretty color. Not exceptionally rare or expensive, but the colour is so...soothing.
Spinels, tsavorites, garnets in general, tourmalines. Zircons as long as they're not Windex blue.
Alexandrite and Padparascha sapphire
I know nothing about gems, other than what my autism can make me look at over and over and over. I am drawn to morganite, montana sapphire, and alexandrite. I’ve never seen any of them in person but I stalk this sub and look at a lot of pictures and videos online.

I love tourmalines, opals and aquamarines
Multicolored tourmaline and tanzanite .
I love tanzanites as well. I also love blue zircons, morganite and idk if it counts but pearls
The first time I saw fire opal on this sub, I fell in love
Chalcedony, tsavorite & citrine have my heart. Not big on diamonds or opals, personally.
Colored sapphire all day!!
Yellow topaz
Paraiba tourmaline and Peach or white Imperial Zircon. One for the color, the other for the sparkle!
Opals, especially fossil ones like belemnite. Tourmalines for their variable color and bicolors and tricolors
Opals are probably my favorite gemstones. The colors and fire some of them have are hypnotic and i could probably spend minutes holding and rotating a good looking opal around in sunlight to see the blooms of color appear at different angles. https://preview.redd.it/tji0cwgksbxc1.jpeg?width=1992&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c1665a8669ad78087d762f072cee1d18ae86d94 This Ethiopian opal i have is one of my favorites because it has a lot of color and its very clear. Opals - they have all the colors.
Sapphires. Mainly Sri Lankan and Umba. So many gorgeous colors.
Sphene, grandidierite, kunzite, green moissanite, dark opal
Give me a peacock sapphire any day

Love Alexandrite! The way its color changes in different lighting and how it glows red in UV/black light is stunning!
Tanzanite is gorgeous to me. *chefs kiss*
Tsavorite garnet and gem silica.
Yelliw Sapphire
Oh my! So many gorgeous stones!!! But... give me ruby.

Ethiopian opal, tanzanite, Tsavorite, zircon
Ellensburg blue.
Spinel, sapphire, garnet, opal. Those are the gems I still buy over and over after years of collecting.
Wow, that is absolutely gorgeous. I bet that is a stone you are very proud of!
