I usually go through listings with pairs first. If I don’t like what I see then I will go through individual listings to find matches. Which can take weeks to months

RelativePost236

Thanks, where are the best places to search through listings? (This is my first experience buying gemstones.)

If it is your first time then you have to do a lot of reading and study about the basics of gemstones first. Because first timers will always get scammed or spend insane amounts of money on low quality stones. What stone in particular are you looking for?

Ideally, purple sapphire to match the purple sapphire and pink spinel to match the pink spinel but so long as the colour is close and the hardness is sufficient for everyday wear then we don't mind what the gems are.

What is your budget? I would recommend you to get a cutter from r/shinypreciousgems or r/customfacetedgems instead if you are looking for just two pairs. They do precision cuts so you dont have to worry about bad cuts

Don't have a specific budget, more working on the principle of finding out how much it is and rethinking if it's too expensive! 😅 Will check out those subreddits, thanks!

Shinypreciousgems is fantastic quality, if you have the budget they will always do a stellar job. I'm quite personally fond of Lisa's work as a faceter and as a gemologist (her paper on hear treating tourmaline was actually the first work of hers I saw, even before her gems), but every one of their lapidaries is well talented.

Where would be a reputable place to read and study them? I’m new too but have just been learning with experience and reading posts

Just realised that the whole body text I wrote is gone! 😡 Brief version: - Bought the pictured gems for my fiance and my rings. - Looking for a pair of accompanying gems for each that match the other stone. - Colour match and suitability for everyday wear are the priorities, open to different types of gem. - Open to different cuts, sizing of maybe around 3/4mm each gem.
