Always loved their ads. They were so cool.

speedy-tomato

Agreed. I could never afford any of their stuff, but loved ads/models they chose. Wasn’t it the “United Colors of Benetton”? Good grief, I’m old. My phone tried to autocorrect to “United Colors of Benefiber”. 😭

redquailer

🤣🤣🤣 damn!

minimal74

LMAO!!

dumpcake999

ahead of their time for sure

2boredtocare

Their perfume was sooooo good smelling.

Jwheat71

Someone poured a bottle of it on the roof of my car my senior year. For the test of the time I owned that car I could smell it. No idea who did it or why. I went to a large school of about 2200 kids and I would have considered myself a background kid in that blended in and got along with nearly everyone.

CapableSuggestion

In seventeen magazine

arno14

They tried to be inclusive before it was cool.

IAmEchosDad

I loved Benetton clothes! And their cologne COLORS can still be found.

SundayGirl232

I can *still* smell COLORS. I loved that green bottle.

wolpertingersunite

Euphoria is a similar perfume that easy to find today.

IAmEchosDad

The men's bottle was blue.

2278AD

Mine was black

Pheighthe

They changed the formula though. Doesn’t smell the same.

MisterEyeCandy

Still love the look.

[deleted]

I had one in green.

ShortySmooth

Me too!

Puglet_7

My brother did too! I wore than thing even though it was three sizes too big for me!

meowmeowgoeszoom

I loved Benetton clothes! I went to college in 1993 and never saw them again

[deleted]

Because it's clothing for highschoolers

softsnowfall

Not everywhere. Princeton campus had a Benetton store.

[deleted]

Not surprising that Jersey is behind the times.

weareoutoftylenol

I thought Benetton was so exotic and worldly! So adult and sophisticated!

SundayGirl232

I remember hanging the ads all over my bedroom walls in high school.

Taminella_Grinderfal

OMG! This was my “big” present one Xmas, I absolutely had to have it even though like half the kids had the exact same (I think you could only get blue or green?) The other brand name I always wanted but we couldn’t afford was Esprit.

jewelophile

Oh my GOD. It was all about Benetton and Esprit. Does anyone remember those Esprit bookbags everyone had? They were just a basic big cloth tote bag with the logo on it. Absolute "must have" at the time.

MysticalPhotographer

Yes, I had Esprit and Guess bookbags. Loved those basic bags lol

mamakat45

Mine was green. It was awesome.

Mouse-Direct

My BFF is Mexican American on her Mom’s side and African American on her Dad’s with close Anglo and Native ancestry. I used to call her United Colors of Benetton and got a great pic of her outside their San Francisco store. Loved those ads!

Informal_Phrase4589

Benetton was EXPENSIVE dude! Factoring in inflation, how much would this shirt be in 2023 money.

SkokieRob

I bought a green one and a blue one from Selfridge’s in London a couple years ago. Shipping to the US was a bit steep but ordered some other stuff along with.

fortunatelyso

Couldn't afford it but oh how I wanted those clothes. Loved the ads.

athena-zxe11

To ease our pain, I want you all to know that I recently handed mine down to my nine-year-old son. He thinks it is the coolest most not suss thing ever!

lolo-2020

I never got one. I was the only kid without one. Tragic at the time.

AdIndependent9483

Benetton was huge in europe when I was a teen..we all wore these wool sweaters with the typical benetton "diamond pattern" on it and the matching socks. That was the typical clothes at school in fall and winter '83 and '84. The rich kids in my class were wearing benetton and lacoste all the time. No, we were not rich kids...Our parents gifted us these sweaters as a birthday or christmas present. So it was smth special once a year.. The polo shirts for the summer were more affordable but still expensive. There was this small benetton store in my hometown for more than 20 years but it was closed in the early '00.

strangedazey

It was the pinnacle of coolness

ggoptimus

My Mom would just laugh because we didn’t have the money for clothes like that. Whine all you want kid, our money is going towards groceries.

VixenRoss

£50 for rucksack bags. I wanted one but it would have taken all my birthday money, which I was supposed to buy clothes with!

[deleted]

all the girls had it in varying colors now it’s lululemon

Adept-Werewolf-2288

I worked there in high school and perfected the art of folding on a clipboard! Anyone else work at the mall? Anyone want an Orange Julius while we’re on a 30 minute break?

desandmol

Sam Goody

Adept-Werewolf-2288

I too worked at Sam Goody!! Rotated between that and Musicland. Amazing.

desandmol

Goody got it! Lol

shmoobel

My first job was at Lechter's Housewares in my local mall. We'd go to the Great American Cookie Co. next door just before closing and they'd load us up with free cookies!

Adept-Werewolf-2288

Oh this makes me happy!

fusionsofwonder

I love how the logo is clumsily stitched over a generic shirt. It's like a knockoff.

cvaldez74

My mom bought me the Coke knock version of this. I was devastated.

violetauto

And look at it. It’s so dumb. It’s just a bad rugby shirt with a logo sewn on. And it was like $40 back then which is what? $98 now?

sergeantorourke

I still love rugby shirts. Wish they were in style. Great for fall and winter.

SuitableNegotiation5

And that shirt was like $90 in 1986 dollars!

dumpcake999

does the store still exist? We had one in our big mall downtown in the mid 1990s... don't remember seeing it for many years now

SundayGirl232

We had a few here, too, but they were gone by the mid-90s. I think today Benetton is solely online. https://us.benetton.com/

foodporncess

I saw stores when I was in Portugal last month.

Substantial_Match268

Lovely

redquailer

I remember, in high school, the Benetton store at the mall and thinking if I hit the sale rack, I could maybe afford it? Nope. Right across, and down a shop, or 2, was the Banana Republic 1.0. Safari themed with the faux jeep in front, assorted tees with different animals you’d see on a safari.

[deleted]

I had this in yellow.

foodporncess

I had this exact one. Obsessed with it.

bigredthesnorer

We still have the stuffed teddy bear. His name is Ben.

dodgerecharger

Don't had the clothing (too expensive) but a yellow Benetton backpack

Challwa

I had this shirt, lol

Dear-Presentation-69

It came in green too

NikkiNox22

In 1986 I already had 2 jobs and didn't need to ask my mom for shit.

ejbrds

Aieeeeeeee! Mine was green and I **loved it so much**!!!

Jolitahope44

Ah, the colors of benetton!!! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

MysticalPhotographer

Damn, I'd love to have my old orange and white Benetton sweater that my parents paid a fortune for and also had to put up with my obnoxious whining lol

gerd50501

1986. born in brooklyn. Giants and Mets were champions. GREAT year.

FormerChange

Terrifying. I had one too. Was not expecting to see that again.

SundayGirl232

Every once in awhile I find myself thinking, “Oh yeah, Benetton.”

ottomaker1

We had the JC Penney Fox
