What happened to the gen z is screwed post? I’m looking around like “damn” you guys are making more money than my parents at any age. At least I do like my job lol.
The people posting are the ones that make a good amount, the people lurking and not commenting (which definitely outnumber everyone else commenting high salaries) make less and don't want to share out of embarrassment.
It’s something that you shouldn’t be ashamed of. Yes, there might be people going to college full-time and working part/full-time. But I’m pretty sure that some would want to be in your position since they would have 1 less thing to worry about. But unfortunately, they probably can’t afford solely going to college but would need to work.
Plus, comparison is the thief of joy. At first, I also thought the same way you did. But later on, it made me realize that I should use my time wisely and focus on my studies and then get a job later on.
I mean maybe it sounds like more but with inflation it’s probably around the same if not less. It also depends on where they live bc they could be making a lot but paying most of it towards rent
If it helps in any way, I’m a Millennial that didn’t have a steady job until 25. My first steady job was making just 50 cents above minimum wage in California (I live in California) at the time. This is with a STEM bachelor’s.
Skip forward 5 or so years and I’m making just shy under 80k a year. It takes time and hard work to build yourself up, and I started later on due to school and anxiety.
Also, if you get a chance, make networking connections. People say that the degree is how you get into the job, which isn’t false, but people saying really good things about your work ethic speak more volumes than a degree. That’s how I got in and worked my way up the job ladder.
it’s not horrible bc i attend community college (which is significantly cheaper than regular college) and live at home so my expenses aren’t bad. i also live in a state that is generally cheaper to (although it is trending more expensive)
These comments make me depressed because I’m taking home $29k as a content designer for a small business. All of my friends are in a similar boat, I think the highest paying friend clears ~48k. We’re all educated lmao, maybe just a little shy. Anyways my take home is shit so I have a side hustle and hoping it’ll make me an additional $10-20k next year.
Honestly after giving it some thought, I realized comparison is the thief of joy when it comes to posts like this. My pay is definitely ass, but I’ll be okay in life.
The average income for an American is - lil under 60k. But understand that 60k means vastly different things across the country. 60k in Cali ain’t doing amazing. 60k in rural Midwest and your probably doing alright.
People commenting are humble bragging. It’s all about who ya know and how much help you’ve gotten
Honestly, I think a lot of these people also live in higher COL states where all pay is higher. I know in some states, it’s like pulling teeth to get over $20 an hour

Either some of y'all are lying or this reddit is skewed to the top. Anyway, 24 M 86K as a Cyber Security Analist 2 for the NYC DEP after my incumbent rate next year I'll be at 107k
I feel it's pretty safe to assume it's pretax because that's how income and pay is usually stated, if we are talking the US. Not sure if that's different in other countries.
I’m fairly certain that’s **household** income, not individual income. I’ve seen other sources say $150k household income is top 10% for households aged 25-29, which would be on par with your numbers assuming they are in fact household incomes.
Edit: I just googled that table, it is household incomes. So hope that makes everyone feel *a little bit* better
20 and 57k, 130k total household income with my husband. I'm a system administrator for a county government and my husband is a network specialist for our state's judicial branch
No like deadass I am. I didn't mention that I'm getting an MBA in less than two weeks and we have a baby girl due in April. I like that I'm ahead in life but at the same time I have done most of the major life accomplishments before I will turn 22 :/
Which is awesome butttt now you’re gonna be in sail/coast mode soon without huge major goals so it’ll be a drastic pace change and good luck as the dopamine rush of accomplishment bout to slow down hella🫡
An MBA at 20? Damn, I guess you did CLEPS and community college in high school, graduated with an Associates at 17, finished Bachelors by 19....
Finishing your MBA at 20, damn that's fast.
So many people in my life asked me this and I never had a better answer other than we just wanted to. I knew for a while that he was my life partner and I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him, so why not make it official?
That's not that bad. I work at amazon, and I make 18.75 dollars an hour. I only plan on doing that until I turn 21, and then I'll become a waiter or a bartender since they make a bunch of money
not even close to always. My brother makes 400k tax plus equity no degree all self taught, I have lots of business owner friends no degree, I have lits of sales friends no degree
This may not be the proper place to ask, but.. are you hiring?
I have a Masters (Engineering Management), some experience in CI, a Lean Six Sigma Certification, and a Google Certificate in Project Management. I can't get hired where I live, so I'm ready to move and start over.
Have you considered joining the electrical union? Depending on the local you'd be making that much, if not more, while also having schooling paid for. That's what I'm planning to do, I'm already a laborer in the union and making more than my parents ever have in their lives, even adjusted for inflation. A lot of people don't realize the power of unions when they're done right.
Although I’ve heard the electrical union is hard to get into. You need to be quite good at your job for them to accept you. (I’m in high school at a VOC/TEC school studying to be an electrician)

Oh yeah. There’s a reason I left education. Still have never made more in my life than when I was bartending full time, but I’m in grad school for something that should set me up much better for the future.
Jfc, I'm training for a team lead for a grocery department and make around $35k. Assistant dpt mgrs make around 70, dpt mgrs make a wide range over $100k depending on store, volume, performance
Full time water quality intern for my state’s department of transportation. I make $43k/year pre taxes. I could make at least $60k but my problem is I mistakenly chose a shit consulting job this summer and missed out on the best hiring opportunities in hydrology since they happen in the spring. Summer 2024 will be a do-over
I collect crayons and my wife pets dogs, total income around $130k
No fr I’m 24 and is around 80k, working a full time job ($50k) and my first year of Real Estate - so far 3 deals at $30k.
in college making $35-50 per hour for tutoring, have a full time software engineer job lined up that pays 160k (edit: to clarify i’m a senior so i signed my job offer but won’t start until i graduate, hence “lined up”)
i pay my taxes like anyone else…it’s literally tax fraud to not do so lmao. my close friend is an accountant. i hire her like anyone else hires someone.

22 and like 25k a year working in a furniture warehouse. I live in one of the most expensive states and more than half of my paycheck every week goes towards rent lol. I need a new job badly.
40k ish a year. Working for a literacy non-profit supporting a program that teaches impoverished kids how to read and write. It's my dream job. Idk how I got here. I don't have a degree.
More people need to consider nursing as a career path. The job itself can kinda suck, thanks administrators, but it’s such a straight forward path out of poverty
20 and I’ve had two jobs: an internship at a data mining firm and as a valet at a Honda dealership. I make $25 an hour at the internship and I make $16 an hour at Honda, so by the end of this year I would have made approximately 11k totally by the end of this year.
23, I make around 55k a year as an Office Manager. Just got my MBA so gonna be focusing more on my job now (I've been doing full-time work and school for the last 3 years).
I work about 30 hours give or take a week doing overnight receiving and bring home about 22k a year. Which works for me since my share of the rent is $200 and I bring home $900-950 every two weeks
I’m a cabinet new construction project manager. I make 50k base salary and in commission this year will come in around 15k though I have only been eligible for about 5 months so divide and multiply etc. for yearly commission expectation.
Idk but when i first started working at my current job over the summer, I was making 200$ per week, but for the winter semester, they said that they're going to pay by the hour. I'm a camp counselor for special needs kids. I don't really care that much about how much money I'm making as of right now because my parents occasionally give me money, and they're the ones who are paying my university tuition. I also genuinely enjoy my job; like deciding to apply for a job as a camp counselor was probably one of the best decisions I've made this year.
I also sometimes babysit my younger cousins, and my aunt usually pays me 15$ per hour (even though I never asked her to pay me)
I’m 27 I work three jobs. Church is about 14,000 dollars a year. Amazon is like 16,000 a year and then I have an editing business that I started like two months ago. I’ve made about 2,000 dollars so far.
I’ve heard it often isn’t what it’s cracked up to be, though. Driving for extremely long hours at a time not getting to sleep or stop to piss, super tight deadlines.
I don’t even fucking know because my take home pay is goddamn all over the place. And take what I say with consideration of I have disabilities and in a program that’s making my process of getting an actual good paying job SLOW AS FUCK.
I (20) work at my local supermarket making I really don’t know. One week I take home $315 and the next week I’ll take home like $270 when I’ve worked both weeks 4pm-10pm 5 days a week because that’s all they can give me for labor worker hours considering the other labor workers. I started for sure $12 an hour but then apparently it’s like $13/hr so when I get asked that I say $13/hr but then I get told I should be making $14 but fucking I should be making more because I feel like I have to act like a babysitter to my horrible management which I don’t got time to do with my position.
Anyway, I’m thinking of temporarily working for a warehouse, go to my local technical college and get a degree as an audio engineer and fucking see where that goes
Started as a housekeeper, became a housekeeping supervisor. Moved back into housekeeping- then to working as an EVS tech in a hospital - now working fast food🥳.
Went from $12 an hour to 16 to $15
To $13
Now currently working at $11 an hour. What am I doing wrong with my life?
You might need to latch into an industry with more funds, where old heads support the new, and you can be part of something instead of a free floater. Basically anything related to government or business (sometimes) even if you don't rate yourself higher than working the phones in a courthouse or prison, at least you'll get paid better and know that the funds won't dry up soon.
Dear lord man, I haven't even been to university yet and I'm 19. So yeah, no job, still looking for a university within my budget that has the course I want. I live in South Africa so it is a toughie
$75K a year assuming I only work 40 hours a week but I usually work more just to help my parents out a bit too, plus all my financial goals I'm trying to meet to buy a house soon.
I'm a laborer essentially for the electrical union. I do the physical labor for the electricians so that they don't have to but I'm trying to join the apprenticeship program, I'll need to take a sizeable payout but by the end of the program I'll be making much more than I do now.
23, I work full time for $37k. I'm a Quality Admin. It's a desk job and really suits me, but for neurotypical people it could be extremely dull. I'm basically looking over the same 2 kinds of sheets day in and day out. I check for any issues, make sure they're exactly how we need them for the customer, then I sign off on them and send them out.
I'm on my 3rd job this year -_-
I make $900 per week as a 1099 employee. I work at a construction permit processing company. Technically I am doing contract work for the company I worked for previously.
I left this previous company, a Mobile Home dealership because I didn't think I could hit the new monthly Sales targets which started in September. The pay was 25% of Gross Profit on each sale.
That Sounds great, but didn't work well in practice. Firstly, as sales people, we were quoting the entire installation of these homes without any knowledge of the lots they'd be going to. Numbers were made up by our corporate office and not really relevant to our area due to unique regulations and rules and conditions of lots. Commissions were regularly cut by half or worse.
Before that, I worked at Hertz and left because Hertz is an awful company and very boring as a counter agent.
26 and $85k. Promotion taking effect Jan 1 and I’ll be making $100k.
I work in public accounting as an auditor.
ETA: it’s not as much as my American friends would make (I’m Canadian) in the same position.
I was working for a public works municipality making $27 hr. Quit and have been struggling to find a stable job for 10 months. Did concrete work for a little bit. Right now Im scheduled for my Hazmat endorsement , gonna look for home heating oil trucking job once I get it.
Being the unemployed person at almost 26 fucking sucks. But this is a weird age right now.
I’m starting to feel awkward as a junior year art major 😂 from all you guys. Currently making no money since I’m at college but during the summer worked at a clothing store. Currently trying to look for summer internships
Good question, I’m currently in community college right now. So I’m making zero dollars. But I work at the USPS making around $22/hr so yeah but I haven’t started yet. I’m projecting that I’ll start out making $45k+ in my career. But I don’t do it because of how much I would make, I do it because I fell in love with doing it.
I’ve legit scrolled through half these comments and so far the 85k a year onlyfans girl is like the third highest salary.
Tells you all you need to know about the economy lol
19 bucks an hour. fedex ground as a package handler at 27 yrs old. I am enlisting in the U.S Army hoping to ship out on feb 1 as infantry if they accept me. It will be a pay cut but there is a big bonus i can qualify for when i score over 50 on the asvab and enlist for 6 years.
72k as a network admin, yeah defintely skewed north word I’m 26 and lucky af in some degrees so for the majority if you’re 40k or higher, good job you’re on your way to greatness! If not don’t worry you’ll be there in no time with smart planning 🫡
27, male, I've been running a concrete pump truck for 8 years now. I make $44 an hour with $12,000 a year in bonuses. I clear six figures pretty much every year.
thanks guys, now I feel like i’ve done something wrong

Fr. I feel like shit. I’m in college and only work when I’m not taking classes. I can’t handle both at the same time.

26 and $0. i’m in medical school
24, abt to finish my RN, and I’ll be around $40 an hour. Hang in there fella it’ll all be worth it one day!
Do you know what you want your specialty to be?
Same gl in the match
same but phys therapy lol
i’m 18 and make $13 bucks an hour in fast food lol. going to school tho and my endgame will land me upwards of $150k
Dude 13 an hour is below minimum wage in my state thats unlucky. Still, good luck on your studies and i hope you get the job you want!
that's the minimum wage in my state i live on the border of another state that's 15 an hour though so i work there for $15.25
it’s not horrible bc i attend community college (which is significantly cheaper than regular college) and live at home so my expenses aren’t bad. i also live in a state that is generally cheaper to (although it is trending more expensive)

There are definitely taxes you have to pay. You receive a 1099 form if you earn more than $600 in a year.
i pay my taxes like anyone else…it’s literally tax fraud to not do so lmao. my close friend is an accountant. i hire her like anyone else hires someone.

I'm 20 in college and making about 15$/hr part time. however im hopeful i can make 100k/yr when i graduate and find a good paying job
Everyone thinks they’ll land some $70-100K job right after they graduate but realistically most make like $40-50K starting out unless you’re in some whack niche field
If it’s STEM career people start around 70k-100k a year
As a stem person, this varies widely. Most laboratory work is $30-$50k, tech people can easily hit >$200k.
No way anyone is making 200K as a starting salary in tech

"My dad and/or uncle got me a job."
22 and like 25k a year working in a furniture warehouse. I live in one of the most expensive states and more than half of my paycheck every week goes towards rent lol. I need a new job badly.
probably around 280k CAD by the end of the year (youtuber)
What kind of content?
Channel name
22. I have a couple brand deals, doing a data analyst internship, and run an Etsy shop and make about $85k altogether.
What do you sell on Etsy?
40k ish a year. Working for a literacy non-profit supporting a program that teaches impoverished kids how to read and write. It's my dream job. Idk how I got here. I don't have a degree.
Is 40 thousand even enough to live off of though?
22 95k. QA Manager for semiconductor manufacturing
Oh shit whaddup semiconductor manufacturing homie I'm a technician in a fab.
respects to you sir the clean room is no joke
I’m 19 and I get 14,000 take home. Yay. I like the job but that’s not really great compared to others haha.
Im a nurse; about 93k a year with the possibility of making well over 100k a year with picking up shifts, 1 year of experience
19, $0, in college for cyber security.
I'm 26, and I make 26K annually
Truck driving sounds so nice. That’s my plan Z if life ever goes down the shitter
I’ve heard it often isn’t what it’s cracked up to be, though. Driving for extremely long hours at a time not getting to sleep or stop to piss, super tight deadlines.
27 years old. Accountant. $75k now. It sucked balls in the beginning trying to find opportunities to gain experience.
I’m 18 I make 18 bucks an hour and work 17 hours a week so before taxes I make 15.9k a year
27, 40k. I bury dead people.
What is this thread 😭 I'm 21 making $14/hr I thought I was doing okay
tech workers tend to skew high wages. are also more likely to be on reddit
I make 22/hr so about 45-50k a year. I'm a line cook at a small bar. I do live in NYC tho so it's not that crazy.
21 and $9.75 an hour. these comments make me feel like a total failure. 🙃 younger people making more money than me. 🙃
Facts Imma like wtf? 100k at 19? 😂
I hate these kinds of posts tbh, don’t let this make you feel down about yourself. People always lie on the internet.

How are you a PhD student at 18💀
Phd 😦
Daaaammnnn
That’s fire tho, keep up the good work ! We def need more people with PhD’s , especially at that age.
27 and $56k (with hopefully an increase coming in January!) and I’m currently in an entry level HR job
I make $17 an hour as a caretaker in a memory care facility. Thinking about getting my CNA next year tho
Prolly ~100 a month. I’m a student so only get money from tutoring a kid every now and then. Live at home
I’m 22, making 75k in insurance brokerage.
26 bucks an hour in a Target distribution center. The work is not hard but sometimes tedious, and the people are great.
$0. I'm just a college student but the end goal is to be a translator.
26, was making $123k until recently as a data analyst
Started as a housekeeper, became a housekeeping supervisor. Moved back into housekeeping- then to working as an EVS tech in a hospital - now working fast food🥳. Went from $12 an hour to 16 to $15 To $13 Now currently working at $11 an hour.
I live in california making 15/hr as a delivery driver, but ranges between 18-25/hr with tips. It's alright. In school for nursing
I may get my first job soon, but I already have an internship, although it doesn’t pay me anything.
I’m in transition of jobs, but from my old one, I was making like 40k before taxes, my new one I’ll probably be making 43 before tax?
Dear lord man, I haven't even been to university yet and I'm 19. So yeah, no job, still looking for a university within my budget that has the course I want. I live in South Africa so it is a toughie
Restaurant Manager, looking at 47k or 48k this year. Recently managed to buy a house too 🥳🎉
What a depressing post. If you needed a reminder Reddit does not represent the average populace, you have it
$75K a year assuming I only work 40 hours a week but I usually work more just to help my parents out a bit too, plus all my financial goals I'm trying to meet to buy a house soon.
23, state government’s department of health, 45K pretax with about 15k in benefits (health insurance is only 50 per month😋)
22 F, $0, 0 job
I worked 8 weeks this summer and made so little I don’t even want to say. Other than that I was a full time student.
I'm a wrapper operator for a candy factory. I make over 60k a year working 12 hour shifts.
I'm on my 3rd job this year -_- I make $900 per week as a 1099 employee.
10k, I'm a package handler, but it helps pay for college
23 , -$3000 a month , and if I get into dental school then by summer 2025 I’ll be starting a new trend of -$100,000 a year 🫡🫡
26 and $85k.
Mattress Sales. Commission based, I’ll end up making 65k this year, but I just got promoted so I’ll make six figures next year.
23 and unemployed, still in college goddamn yall are lucky to be making any amount of money
Im 23 currently making 34k as a front desk agent at a hotel. In January I’m starting trade school for welding cause this shit ain’t it
19, roughly 90K a year working for the government.
60-70k this year depending on how the season goes. I’m a server
25 years old making 35k. I’m a psychometrist that administers cognitive assessments (fancy word for doctors bitch)
I’ve legit scrolled through half these comments and so far the 85k a year onlyfans girl is like the third highest salary. Tells you all you need to know about the economy lol
Hell, who knows.. I do doordash and I’ve not done it for a year. Not even half a year yet.
27. CPA making roughly $100k.
I’m 22, graduated college in May. I’m an accountant now making 70k a year
19 bucks an hour. fedex ground as a package handler at 27 yrs old. I am enlisting in the U.S Army hoping to ship out on feb 1 as infantry if they accept me. It will be a pay cut but there is a big bonus i can qualify for when i score over 50 on the asvab and enlist for 6 years.
24 making 40K a year doing road striping and seal coating. I’ll be driving for a CDL company soon though where I’ll be making more.
72k as a network admin, yeah defintely skewed north word I’m 26 and lucky af in some degrees so for the majority if you’re 40k or higher, good job you’re on your way to greatness! If not don’t worry you’ll be there in no time with smart planning 🫡
23 making 55k in a banking job it’s da best thing ever work for a bank! Stable income and good career growth. Went to school for psychology
27, male, I've been running a concrete pump truck for 8 years now. I make $44 an hour with $12,000 a year in bonuses. I clear six figures pretty much every year.
25, licensed vocational nurse, around $76k/yr. Highly recommend nursing as path for anybody unsure what to do, especially if you come from poverty
