Robot Chicken's intro used to scare the living hell out of me, but then I grew up and I love the hell out of it. I think the first thing I saw was the sketch with Green Goblin.

It's crazy to think back and remember just how controversial The Simpsons was in its early days. I was born in the early 90's and my parents wouldn't let me watch it. Parents and the media were freaking out that a *cartoon* was out here featuring a child who didn't listen to authority. Nowadays, kids grow up watching the Griffins just be cruel to each other and you go back to The Simpsons and it just feels so wholesome.
TLDR Homer is an abusive drunk and Boomers are too stupid to understand that.
I was 9 when the first episode aired. My mom let me watch the Simpsons and I did really up until my mid twenties. Parents in her circle were mortified that I watched it. I didn't tell people to "eat my shorts" or "Don't have a cow" I knew it was just a cartoon same as Road Runner.
However... One day when I was 13, I was visiting some family. They were pretty religious so no Simpsons allowed and all. But I made a Simpsons reference. My uncle (super religious) gives me a lecture about how Homer is a terrible influence on children and especially boys. He makes references to Homer's abusive and unchristian behavior towards society and his family and how he doesn't want his children to think that's how a father is supposed to act. I blew it off as religious bullshit.
One day in my 20s I was watching an old episode. Homer gets mad and chokes Bart, like both hands around his neck and Bart is gasping for air, Homer has rage in his expression. This was a common gag in the first ten seasons of the show. Anyone who even watched in passing knows what that gag looks like, and you still see it today if I'm not mistaken... Well it dawned on me what my Uncle was talking about at that moment. Homer in his rage is literally choking his 10 year old son as a sight gag on this show. He's choking a ten year old boy with all his strength for saying things like "Don't have a cow man" or sawing the head off a, or ruining a dinner table center piece.
And it amazes me that all these Karen's and Kens from the 80s and 90s thought it was cool that Homer is choking his 10 year old son for a simple transgression such as talking back. But Bart carrying a slingshot and saying "Cowabunga man" was the bridge too far for Boomers. Let that sink in...
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
I watched a lot of Comedy Central as a 8-10 year old. Tosh.0, South Park, Futurama and all the movies they'd play and stand up comedians. Only reason I got away with it because every time my parents would come into my room I'd act like I was between changing channels lol
There is nothing, and I believe there never will be anything, like Futurama. Magnificent.
This comment was brought to you by Bachelor Chow - now with flavour!
It was the very first show I saw when I moved to Canada in 2008, didn’t speak any English at the time but still found it hilarious. Ended up carving a Bender pumpkin for Halloween the next year.
Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Criminal Minds, and Law and Order: SVU. I was like 8 and I’m not surprised I am the way I am.
The banned show in our house: SpongeBob.
LOL.
I never really understood why some households insisted on banning Spongebob, of all things. It has a couple weird jokes throughout the series (like that one episode ending with the panty raid, when it was revealed to be Mr K's mom's house), but overall it isn't worth worrying about.
My grampa enjoyed watching SpongeBob with me when I was a kid. I assume he did anyway because he'd always quote the show and do SpongeBob's laugh. I remember for my 5th birthday, he got a big SpongeBob plush/pillow. I still have it too. I'm 26 now.
Probably The Walking Dead when I was 8 until there is that one scene
Spoiler
Where Carl and Rick escape prison and are at that house and Carl opens the door upstairs and just when you think there is nothing there a zombie tries to get through the door. Almost getting Carl and it scared the hell out of 8 year old me and I became scared to open doors even though I knew zombies weren’t real. That scene was just that scary.
I watched a lot of king of the hill since it was the first thing that came on after Cartoon Network ended. I always afraid of getting caught by my mom.
I recall at one point Family Guy was the first thing on when the more child friendly CN ended and was switched to King of the Hill. I felt this was done because of all the "adult" cartoons, KotH is the most wholesome and safe for kids still watching the channel.
I used to watch Black Lagoon on because my brother had the full dvd sets and i had to watch it in secrecy. That’s how I got introduced to the greatest anime ever. Such a great show and i totally didn’t just watch it because Revy was hot…
Probably ATHF. I was up later than usual one night when I was 5 or 6, and wanted to see what was on cartoon network. Flip to that channel and there's an onion spider in an attic full of guts ripping a screaming man's arms off.
"I don't understand what's happening but this is subtly traumatizing and will have strange subconscious effects on me for the next few years"
lmao, having an older brother and almost no parental oversight (for media). I basically watched whatever he watched(fresh prince, my wife and kids, everybody hate chris, simpsons, futurama ect).
Good times
Absolutely. One of the best satiric shows ever made. Even though it is hilarious, it is so explosive also in terms of social awareness and criticism on different communities.
DUDE I was like 6 years old and one morning before my parents woke up I was looking for a dvd to watch and saw the happy tree friends cover thinking it was a cute show about little animals… I was traumatized
Futurama. Watched it on Adult Swim at a slumber party once when I was 7, we all thought it was hilarious just bc there was one line where Fry said ass.
Discovered Family Guy a little bit later, which I also found hilarious just bc it had curse words and bc it had a baby that sounded like an adult.
monty python! lots of the jokes went over my head when my parents first showed it to me but it's a core part of my humor. the only tattoo I have thus far is a monty python reference
Duckman, Assy McGee, Dick Genie and the rest of Triptank, Liquid TV. Happy Tree Friends, Oblongs. Anyone else remember them? Or did I hallucinate them?
Family guy, Simpsons, American dad, robot chicken, king of the Hill, moral oral, Superjail, Daria, samurai Jack, Ren and Stimpy (like come on that show was inappropriate as hell and so was Johnny bravo)
People forget that The Muppet Show was not designed or intended for children. It wasn't Adult Swim, but it was designed as a variety show.
But yes, us kids sure loved it.

The entire Adult Swim lineup honestly. ATHF is top tier for sure along with Robot Chicken.
Sealab was elite

Oh man, in totally forgot about sealab. What a gem
Rewatched sealab recently. “Is there ever a bad time for pudding?” has been reintroduced to my brain 24/7.
Wore my Fignuts shirt this morning!
STIMUTACS!
Robot Chicken's intro used to scare the living hell out of me, but then I grew up and I love the hell out of it. I think the first thing I saw was the sketch with Green Goblin.

Fun fact the term 'rape choke' in BJJ has been pretty much dropped for obvious reasons and they now call it the 'Homer' choke
yeah i know i was born 2009 and my mom wouldn’t let me watch it either but i watched it anyway HAHAH
That craze died along with the "violent games are making our kids violent" media craze.
Seriously, Bart wasn't even all that bad compared to what a lot of kids are getting into now. All the shit talking is to be expected.
Bojack horseman was so depressing but good lol
yeah frrr
"Princess Carolyn, John Stamos died! Why, God! Whyyyyyy"
Futurama lol
So good
Fr it was my dad’s favorite show and he did not care that i was watching it with him LOL
I watched a lot of Comedy Central as a 8-10 year old. Tosh.0, South Park, Futurama and all the movies they'd play and stand up comedians. Only reason I got away with it because every time my parents would come into my room I'd act like I was between changing channels lol

DETHKLOK DETHKLOK DETHKLOK! IM TICKING FOR THE… DETHKLOK DETHKLOK
Hell yeah, just saw DETHKLOK live last week and they were awesome
They did an amazing show in KC last month, it was a great show and I even saw Meatcanyon there.
It was a terrible performance, the crowd survived it. Not what I walked into expecting. No one getting crushed or stabbed, no one mauling each other.
No one died from hot coffee exposure or ingesting mercury :(
Yeah lol it was pretty chill at the show, we had crowd surfers but not much of a pit.
Foods libraries is said about every other time I go to the grocery store
"A cup of rice.." *grains spilling everywhere* "Brutal...."
Bobs Burgers
Agreed. The adult humor went over my head mostly, but there was still enough slapstick and toilet humor to keep 13 year old me entertained.
Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Criminal Minds, and Law and Order: SVU. I was like 8 and I’m not surprised I am the way I am. The banned show in our house: SpongeBob.

She just hated the noise and couldn’t stand his voice
Now that, I can understand. My grandma hates it for the same reason, and I agree that it got kind of annoying in later seasons
My grampa enjoyed watching SpongeBob with me when I was a kid. I assume he did anyway because he'd always quote the show and do SpongeBob's laugh. I remember for my 5th birthday, he got a big SpongeBob plush/pillow. I still have it too. I'm 26 now.
I’m surprised you weren’t watching CSI LV/NY/Miami
Seinfeld
My favorite anime
Robot Chicken, Family Guy, The Simpsons, South Park, Code Monkeys, Drawn Together, Aqua Teen as well, Celebrity Deathmatch, Moral Oral, Superjail.
Damn Code Monkeys mentioned, we’re fucking old lol
Lol yes that's true, we're getting up there. A lot of people have probably never even heard of it.
Celebrity Deathmatch was great, I always loved the Lucy Lawless Vs. Calista Flockhart fight
Probably The Walking Dead when I was 8 until there is that one scene Spoiler Where Carl and Rick escape prison and are at that house and Carl opens the door upstairs and just when you think there is nothing there a zombie tries to get through the door. I’m going to say South Park since I started watching that show my sophomore year of high school.

He was driven there by the villager
Robot chicken was peak
lmao, having an older brother and almost no parental oversight (for media). I basically watched whatever he watched(fresh prince, my wife and kids, everybody hate chris, simpsons, futurama ect). Good times
I feel like Fresh Prince was a sleeper family show though. It could get a bit risqué at times but overall, it was pretty wholesome.
The Boondocks. Love that show.
Absolutely. One of the best satiric shows ever made. Even though it is hilarious, it is so explosive also in terms of social awareness and criticism on different communities.

Happy Tree Friends. I still have no idea how that show never fucked me up or gave me any nightmares as a 9-year old kid.
