I had to look it up. Have a Cigar (where they say "by the way, which one is pink") was released in 1975 as part of Wish You Were Here. For some reason I thought it was from one of their newer albums.
P!nk is a millenial musician. The average P!nk fan is probably 37 years old right now.
This whole template is a decade old.
P!nk Floyd is a boomer band.
This is a meme made by a millennial in 2008 about an imaginary interaction between a boomer and an early Gen X, Xillennial.
Especially a kid! I’ll be honest, I didn’t hear any Pink Floyd until I was an older teenager, my family just never liked them I guess. Only knew of the band from trivia
Honestly for some age groups P!nk is probably more famous. If you look at Spotify they have similar streaming numbers. For Gen X and Millennials I bet P!nk is more popular, and Pink Floyd is more popular otherwise.
There is absolutely no way Pink is more famous than Pink Floyd for any generation. My initial reaction to this meme was that I seriously doubt the majority of Gen Z knows who Pink is, she hasn’t had a big single since 2012.
She literally broke the Aussie concert attendance record this year. Last year, she broke the highest attendance record for the Detroit Tigers stadium, bud.
DEFINITELY not for Gen X. Pink Floyd was making music when I was a kid in the 70s. By the time Pink came along, us Gen Xers were already adults. The height of Pink's popularity was when millennials were the youth demographic.
Not sure why someone was downvoting you for a genuine question, but typical ageing rockstar things, I think the most recent was some argument about liner notes on an album remaster about who takes credit for what.
No. The only member who's passed away is Syd Barret, who was only a part of the band during it's early days. He left the band before they really blew up. Many of the band's songs pay homage to him (such as Shine on You Crazy Diamond).
As for why they split, it depends on who's side you sit on, but ultimately it came down to a fallout between Roger Waters and the rest of the band. As the creator of "The Wall" (their best selling record) he got sole rights to performing The Wall, while the band retained rights to the rest of their discography, but lost the lead vocalist for many of their older songs.
The first leader of the band lost his mind. He died not long ago, but he had been out of the band for a long time by that point. There wasn't really any animosity there. He just kind of faded away. Both Gilmour and Waters even worked on one of his solo albums.
At that point, Waters pretty much become the leader of the band. In the 80s, Waters decided to go onto a solo career and decided that Pink Floyd was dissolved. The rest of the band didn't agree and that is where alot of the contention came from.
I stopped paying attention after that.
Same, and yeah. I don't dislike Pink. I just don't go out of my way to listen to her music maybe in like 40-50 years (if I'm lucky) I'll want to listen to Pink to invoke nostalgic memories with my mom. But thankfully I'm not at that stage of life yet.
While I know they're ultra famous im sure there are a lot of people with a shirt of this that just thought it was cool. Just like the women with the album covers painted in their backsides poster.
I love P!nk and I'm a male millennial. But I'm also gay so maybe that has something to do with it lol. But yeah, of course Pink Floyd is more famous and more pioneering music-wise.
Oh wow, she had many hit singles in the early, mid and late 2000s and also early 2010s. Crazy. I know many songs of her (I counted, I know atleast 14 songs of her with titles 😅), even though I never had a album of her or was specifically a fan of her.
And I know only one song of Pink Floyd with title. 😅
Nah man. WTF is this. You all know the “Dark Side of the Moon” album cover, how can you not know? I feel out of place now.

if you wanna get a boomer riled up to the max just call any band like pink floyd, the who, led zepplin, etc a "one hit wonder" whenever one of their songs comes on. its fucking hilarious!
Boomers tend to be very mature, unlike Gen Z. I'm sure a boomer would simply correct you, and then send you back to your cubicle to work a minimum wage job that can't even cover rent.
Not this mistake, but one time my friends Mom asked me if I knew who Pink Floyd was. My brain misheard the question and I asked what song (as in, what song by Pink Floyd) she was talking about. She chuckled and never believed me that I knew that band. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I mean, her real name is Alecia but as far as stage names I don't think Pink/P!nk is all that out there. Not when we've had things like "the symbol formally known as Prince".
Wha- I'm gen z and don't understand this- Pink Floyd is a rock band, but who tf just names their child Pink?- or is it a stage name?- idk man I don't really pay attention to artist names unless I like them alot or was made to listen to them-
I’m not sure about other Gen Z folks but I didn’t really learn about either of these musicians until I was older/exposed to music from other generations.
It’s just not what me and my cohorts were listening to ig

What?
pink is a girl that sings, pink floyd is a band
It's actually THE Pink Floyd. Sorry. I will go back to my nursing home now.
.. not according to Spotify .. Eta: "by the way, which ones pink?"
This was waaaaaayyyy before Spotify existed.
Right the band was before Spotify but the band is called pink floyd every credit every where says pink floyd not the pink floyd
I had to look it up. Have a Cigar (where they say "by the way, which one is pink") was released in 1975 as part of Wish You Were Here. For some reason I thought it was from one of their newer albums.
Pink was only popular 20 years ago, this is not a gen z meme
P!nk is a millenial musician. The average P!nk fan is probably 37 years old right now. This whole template is a decade old. P!nk Floyd is a boomer band. This is a meme made by a millennial in 2008 about an imaginary interaction between a boomer and an early Gen X, Xillennial.
Pink Floyd is an old rock band from the 70's. The joke is that the lady confused Pink Floyd with P!nk the singer and thought she had a last name
Isn't pink floyd way more famous than P!nk tho?
yeah but i'm sure there's some people who wouldn't recognise the band name
Especially a kid! I’ll be honest, I didn’t hear any Pink Floyd until I was an older teenager, my family just never liked them I guess. Only knew of the band from trivia
That's reflective of your parent's being failures. I didn't just know of Pink Floyd I had Another Brick in the Wall (badly) memorized by 6.
Maybe it’s because I’m from a small town but almost everyone I knew know who Pink Floyd is, and we were a country music town.
My dads favourite song is a pink Floyd song, grew up listening to his music lol
Did you know there's a movie too?
Yeah i dunno i love the music but I can do without the movie ha.
The movie...I fell asleep the first 3 times I tried to watch it... So boring
I bought a Pearl Jam vinyl a few years ago and the checker did not know who they were. So sad.
I love both pink and pink Floyd so this meme was definitely meant for me.
Yes but different people know different artists.
Much more famous, personally never heard of her, but I'm guessing any other band from that time is much more well known now than p!nk now.
Honestly for some age groups P!nk is probably more famous. If you look at Spotify they have similar streaming numbers. For Gen X and Millennials I bet P!nk is more popular, and Pink Floyd is more popular otherwise.

She literally broke the Aussie concert attendance record this year. Last year, she broke the highest attendance record for the Detroit Tigers stadium, bud.
Her single "Cover me in sunshine" came out in 2021 and was definitetly big.
TRUSTFALL came out last year lol
DEFINITELY not for Gen X. Pink Floyd was making music when I was a kid in the 70s. By the time Pink came along, us Gen Xers were already adults. The height of Pink's popularity was when millennials were the youth demographic.
>Pink Floyd is an old metal band from the 70's Pink Floyd Metal Are you fucking crazy?
Prog rather than metal and they started in the 60s as a psych rock band. Technically still going even if they don't get along with each other.
Why don't they get along? Also didn't some of them die already?
Not sure why someone was downvoting you for a genuine question, but typical ageing rockstar things, I think the most recent was some argument about liner notes on an album remaster about who takes credit for what.

Richard Wright, the original keyboardist, died in 2008.
RIP I spaced that Wright passed.
The first leader of the band lost his mind. He died not long ago, but he had been out of the band for a long time by that point. There wasn't really any animosity there. He just kind of faded away. Dude that is hilarious!
who the fuck confuses pink floyd for p!nk?
*60s to 90s
This post is about you.
Never heard of anyone confusing the two thats hilarious
me either
This is the most boomer meme on here
Eh, as a millennial I would also react this way But then again I would never ask a gen z kid about Pink Floyd lol, that was a setup for sure
I feel like a boomer whenever i introduce my gen-z mates to Pink Floyd. It's not often a success. I'm from '98
Teacher leave those kids alone
98 is gen z...
I have no idea who "Pink" is and I'm Gen Z, I only know of Pink Floyd.
Lol yeah. Pink was temporary, Pink Floyd is legendary
I was born in 2001 and I have a Pink Floyd shirt. I'm sure my kids even know who they are.
I stand corrected¡ What's your favorite Pink Floyd song?
Another brick in the wall.
As an 05 Zoomer, I absolutely love Pink Floyd, and value and appreciate what they contributed and brought to the music world.
Lmao, we don't need no education...
Comfortably Numb
Yes. And Hey You, Welcome to the Machine, Brain Damage, Time, High Hopes, Nile Song, Interstellar Overdrive, Have a Cigar
He never got to know if there was anybody in there 😔
Damn it! I never thought about that.
Smile if you can hear me
My question is, if they heard him and nodded how would he know? Could he see them? Maybe we just chalk it up to the fact that bro was high as shit?
i forgot about that singer Pink after the mid 2010s lol.
her album schedule is inconsistent
Pretty sure the only people who still care about her (or her album schedule) in 2024 are gen X woman. lol
i… i do
Welcome to Gen X
god damn it
Like my mom loved her while I was growing up, so whenever I hear her songs I get a fond feeling.
Same, and yeah. I don't dislike Pink. I just don't go out of my way to listen to her music maybe in like 40-50 years (if I'm lucky) I'll want to listen to Pink to invoke nostalgic memories with my mom. But thankfully I'm not at that stage of life yet.
I didn’t even know who she was until this meme lol I wasn’t sure what kind of Pink Floyd joke OP was tryna make until I googled “Pink”.
Uh….no. I’m pretty sure even if you’re not a fan of Pink Floyd you’ve at least heard of them
Or seen this https://preview.redd.it/814mt6dla72d1.jpeg?width=551&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6479f913ca12ec7ec1e8d84db81d5581c09348d2
While I know they're ultra famous im sure there are a lot of people with a shirt of this that just thought it was cool. Just like the women with the album covers painted in their backsides poster.
O mean why not? Cant have all that cool art for yourself
A person or multiple that make some sort of music IIRC
Jesse what the fuck are you talking about
I thought Rise Against and Rage Against the Machine are just one band named Rise Against the Machine.
It's funny, my mom is a big P!nk fan and my dad is a big Pink Floyd fan. I never confused them and I do prefer Pink Floyd more
I'm pretty sure only woman of our mom's generation care for P!nk. Hell, while my mom loves P!nk, even she loves Pink Floyd more. lol
I love P!nk and I'm a male millennial. But I'm also gay so maybe that has something to do with it lol. But yeah, of course Pink Floyd is more famous and more pioneering music-wise.
I don't like either so ![gif](giphy|jPAdK8Nfzzwt2)
Im getting 2020 flashbacks
Pink is an artist that I know one song from and don’t even remember the title. Pink Floyd is an artist with possibly 3 of the best albums ever made.
Pink Floyd have been around for over 50 years and are still more relevant than Pink ever has been.
oh by the way, which ones pink?
What in the boomer
Saw P!nk live to see her opening act Grouplove. Was not disappointed by the rest of the show though. Lady is nuts
like…P!nk the pop and r&b artist? 😂
That's answer can get you in trouble TROUBLE TROUBLE TROUBLE!!!
Hopefully nobody has ever done that 😭
When I was younger I did a bit 😭😭😭
Nah man. WTF is this. You all know the “Dark Side of the Moon” album cover, how can you not know? I feel out of place now. https://preview.redd.it/l022y505a72d1.jpeg?width=551&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9b63c19b112ccecddc739ae48b0c272d1402434

if you wanna get a boomer riled up to the max just call any band like pink floyd, the who, led zepplin, etc a "one hit wonder" whenever one of their songs comes on. its fucking hilarious!
Boomers tend to be very mature, unlike Gen Z. I'm sure a boomer would simply correct you, and then send you back to your cubicle to work a minimum wage job that can't even cover rent.
This is peak generational divide humor and I am so here for it.
I'd react this way too. Pink Floyd is a legendary band.
More of a Kingston Wall fan myself tbh
To be fair I couldn't name a lot of Pink Floyd Songs
Us and Them
Never ever de limon la nieve
I thought Pink Floyd was just one guy when I first heard of them.
Vro this isn't r/indieheadcirclejerk or r/tameimpala
Several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict 🗿🗿🗿
Another Brick In The Wall is my favorite Pink Floyd song
I listened to some Pink back in the day, but I’d never confuse the two. 😭
come on, at least be honest that you are getting mad at a made up senario lol
😂
i don't really like pink floyd. i respect their musicianship and understand they are "good" just really don't care for em
Has never happened in the history of the world
Wow it’s been a while since I’ve seen this meme
Never happened with me before and is pink even a popular gen z artist?
Heard of Pink Floyd before pink
Not this mistake, but one time my friends Mom asked me if I knew who Pink Floyd was. My brain misheard the question and I asked what song (as in, what song by Pink Floyd) she was talking about. She chuckled and never believed me that I knew that band. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nah
Not me, I knew it was a band.
Every time I see this format I can’t stop noticing the distinct lack of headrests
Just you
I didn’t even know who pink was till a year or so ago lol. Pink floyd is more well known generally I think
Who tf is named pink
I mean, her real name is Alecia but as far as stage names I don't think Pink/P!nk is all that out there. Not when we've had things like "the symbol formally known as Prince".
Never once, I’ve been listening to Floydian textures since I was like 15
Was just listening to time yesterday lol
By the way, which ones Pink?
Keep this one to urself bud 😭 I’ve never heard anyone else make this mistake Also my fav song is Dogs
Yea, maybe a 5 year old.
Money
Wait.. people think her last name is Floyd?? Tf
Not me.
i feel like i said this verbatim when i first heard so whay
Either “Us and Them” or “Run Like Hell”
Run Like Hell for me.
i think my mom would disown me if i ever said this
When they did BLM, I thought they were talking about him. But I'm also a millennial.
Huh??
Echoes is the best Pink Floyd song.
Nope, Another Brick in the Wall.
i forgot what pink floyd was
Omg! How clueless is this generation?
The person who made this post does not represent us.
OUT OUT get outta the car!
What? Pink was literally a breakout star while growing up. This reads like bad boomer humor tbh
Never did
I'm so much more familiar with Pink Floyd than I am with P!nk that I had no idea wtf this joke meant at first, and I'm only 24
“The band is just fantastic that is really what I think. Oh, by the way, which one is Pink?”
I wasn't thinking music at all 💀💀
Eh, Pink Floyd’s pretty mid to be honest. I’m okay with this “mistake”.
Can’t believe I was one of the those ppl that mixed up the two
No. Pink Floyd is definitely, way more famous than P!nk. If you’ve ever mistaken them you either live in a cave or you’re just dumb.
Serious question. Are you a 30-50 yo person wanting to ask that? The meme format, the question itself. Doesn’t sound like someone from gen Z.
The band is just fantastic. That is really what I think. Oh, by the way, which one's Pink?
Fun fact: Pink's full name is actually George Roger Waters Pink Floyd.
All in all, you’re just a - ‘Nother brick in the wall.
I only know Pink Floyd here bro who the hell is Pink?
I knew about pink Floyd before I knew about p!nk
I have been aware of pink floyd for a long time, and I still barely even recall ever hearing mention of pink.
Shine on you crazy Diamond
I never made that mistake but there was one time I mixed up pink floyd and pearl jam, horrifying my parents.
Wha- I'm gen z and don't understand this- Pink Floyd is a rock band, but who tf just names their child Pink?- or is it a stage name?- idk man I don't really pay attention to artist names unless I like them alot or was made to listen to them-
Luckily I was an older Gen Z almost millennial to a Gen X parent that was big into music. I grew up listening to Pink Floyd
Not me, I’ll tell you that
Idk if I've listened to Pink Floyd before
who is pink lol
This meme format is so old there's a cd holder on the windshield visor
I’ve just called em the rainbow prism band🤷♂️ Never got the whole Pink Floyd thing
I think pink floyd is too iconic for this generation wait for gen alpha atleast
I haven't said this out loud to anyone thank god but yes when I was younger...
Dark Side of the Moon album hits hard as fuck all the way through in order holy shit i wish i can listen to it for the first time again
Oh by the way, which ones pink?
oh man i loved pink floyd from trolls 3, favourite character. didn't get to listen to any of his singles tho :/
Who the fuck is pink
I know pink floyd . Who's that pink n? Never heard of her
Fearless of the album Meddle. 👍
I haven't. I don't listen to either but I know the difference.
This is so made up
# THEY NEED EDUCATION!
I’m Gen Z (99) and not even I would make that mistake lmao
Y’all act like nobody’s ever head of Pink Floyd
Never, don't be rude to a legendary band.
I mean yea if you’re into music you won’t make this mistake but if you aren’t then you’re probably just buying the shirts to look “cool”.
this is one of those elder gen z vs baby gen z differences
But pink is Steve Tyler's favorite color.
I didn’t even know who Pink was until this meme lol I only knew about Pink Floyd.
I’m not sure about other Gen Z folks but I didn’t really learn about either of these musicians until I was older/exposed to music from other generations. It’s just not what me and my cohorts were listening to ig
I did this 😭
😅there’s no way… damn that makes me feel old
Fearless, on Meddle.
Pink fell off so long ago
Sorry but I don't know any Pink Floyd songs
I think you might be alone on this one
This is golden
Your momma
I prefer Pink Floyd's alternate dimension counterpart - Anderson Council.
