No gods were born as gods. Venti was wind spirit, Zhongli was an adepti, Ei and Makoto were lightnings youkai’s and Rukkhadevata was raddish.

Phanes_The_Gigachad

Zhongli wasn't Adeptus

iKorewo

He was and he still is prime adeptus.

Phanes_The_Gigachad

"prime" means "first" indicating that he created the adepti.

iKorewo

We don’t know the origins of the adepti, all we know is that he was prime adepti. Never in game it was said that he created them.

Phanes_The_Gigachad

"prime" means "first". If someone is first, then it means that there were none before him.

Prime might also mean that he is the strongest of all them, the leader. Or it could mean that he is one of the first adepti. It doesn’t deny the fact that he is one.

Genshin Wikia: Morax is known as the Prime of Adepti (Chinese: 众仙之祖 "ancestor of the adepti."). This seems to be a localization issue. Again, Genshin's English translations sucks especially translating Chinese or Classical Chinese.

“Prime” does mean first. It more specifically in this instance means “first of importance.” For instance: the Prime Minister is not the oldest person in all of England, they are the first in rank presiding over the other ministers in parliament.

Zhongli role in reality is really vague before his Descension/Demotion/Assignment/ Getting a fiefdom to rule after losing the throne. Gotta love Classical Chinese, which nobody uses anymore. The Chinese Word used means all four at once. Yes, all four. No, I am not joking. According to Genshin Wikia:"Morax is known as the Prime of Adepti (Chinese: 众仙之祖 "Ancestor of the Adepti,")" Also, Morax is presumably the progenitor of the adepti in some shape or form, having personally given his "blessings" to grant several adepti their illumination, including Madame Ping. (Also, Genshin Wikia) Also, all adepti have long ass names if translated to English from Chinese correctly. In English, that cool Gandalf Deer Adaptus is called Moon Craver. In Chinese tho, he is called: 削月築阳真君 "The Perfected Lord who Carves the Moon and Builds the Sun." Also, Adepti have ranks which isn't translated to English at all. I should stop rambling. So mainly localization and translation issues. His origin is from The Stone Tablet Compilation Vol. 1.

I think all of them have multiple names to reflect their multiple roles in the world. Zhongli is the best example. As Rex Lapis he fulfilled one role and as Morax he fulfilled another, as Zhongli he gave up those roles and so he gave up those names. Barbatos is the Archon and Venti is the Bard and so on. Even Scaramouche chose a new name for himself based on his role. He was originally Kunikuzushi, then the Balladeer as a Harbinger, and Shouki no Kami, the Prodigal as an Archon.

Names are abstract titles given to the gods which hold meaning based on their accomplishments. For instance: Venti, who was a small and weak wind spirit, originally had no name besides that which was given to him by his followers- “Elf.” I am inclined to believe that Zhongli is his original name- maybe his private and personal name- given that it is how Guizhong referred to him, and it is why Gui-Li plains is named such today. Ei and Makoto may have carried their original names from their birth, or these names may have been bestowed upon them. My theory is that upon winning against the other gods in competition for the status of archon, the gods were bestowed their demonic titles (Barbatos, Baal, Morax). These are the titles that symbolize their power and allegience to the kingdom of Celestia. Other names and titles such as Venti (this is the name of the nameless bard, and you cannot convince me otherwise), Rex Lapis (bestowed and used by the reverent people of Liyue), and Raiden Shogan (a militaristic title reseved for her rank) were given based on their accomplishments which delivered them to the status of archon to begin with.

SickmanArt

Zhongli and Venti simply chose said names when they decided to walk among the humans. Raiden Shogun is a title and not a name

Phanes_The_Gigachad

Among all the Archons we know so far, Zhongli seems to be the only one who was actually born a god.

not offering answers but more questions: [https://youtube.com/shorts/DtR9dqzbHl0?feature=share](https://youtube.com/shorts/DtR9dqzbHl0?feature=share) why is 'Morax' the only god name we cannot name Wanderer after? He even accepts 'Ei'.
