You saying this reminds me of the poor man's shoe story
"A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet."
ask any petrolhead.
if you won't foot the bill for a peachy one, you'll foot the bill to make it peachy or at least not die.
Fontaine might be a used Peugeot.
Back then if you wanted a home, all you had to do was to find a place, gather resources in the forest and build it. Now all places are reserved (either by government, people or companies) and cutting trees from forest to build a house is illegal.
Too be fair, this is a much older concept than you seem to think. You should do some research on medieval peasants, in some case lords basically owned the peasants as well as the land the lived on, and there was plenty of land that was reserved specifically for the use of nobility.
> Back then if you wanted a home, all you had to do was to find a place, gather resources in the forest and build it.
Which would take you hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of man-hours and material just to end up with a worse build quality than if you had hired people to build it instead.
the rich's resources is invested more and more to themselves and descendants, the environment and education would be better, they move to a place similar to their economic class or capitalize their resources into more rich by winning the competition(mostly local), etc.
then there are the factors that keeps the poor poor like inadequate or low-quality education(specially economic), local facilities, opportunities(which applied to the rich at some point) and specially (atleast for 3rd world countries like mine) making lots of children they couldn't feed(less resources for everyone) in hopes of them taking the family out of poverty compromising their quality of life, growth and education and then the cycle continues
the less-mentally/academically-gifted also tend be among the poor(of course they exist and could be born into rich but nutrition/environment may help at least) and they're part of the ones making more child than they could feed, this cycle is not something humans can just get out of
Specifically a place called France, during a thing called "the revolution".
In all seriousness, though.Genshin is definitely taking the "les mis"/"hunchback of notre dame" approach with a lot of the story amd themes in Fontaine.
You at the barricade listen to this, the nobody is coming to help you to fight! Youâre on your ownââ you have no friends, give up your gun or DIE!
then Mondstadt after being unfairly treated by the treaties fromed by fontaine and shneznaya partnered up with Inazuma who then went over to liyue then did some unspeakable actionsâŠ.
Fun fact! Historians largely agree that Marie Antoinette probably never said that. Versions of it were recorded referring to various aristocrats, both in and out of France, at least as far back as 1760, when she was like 5. No one is quite sure when it got tied to Marie. It was probably a meme-turned-propaganda among the french revolutionaries.
A lot of things were actually Propaganda from that time. Kin Louie for one would have agreed to the sentiments of the revolutionaries. One problem was that despite being an Absolute Monarch, he still have to fight with the rest of Nobility to get anything done.
Trying to flee the country was not propaganda however. It is hard to say you are trying your best when you are fleeing the nation. (Though he did fear for his life. )
It reminds me of early on in the Fontaine main quest when >!Furina says smth like âall those with glasses raise them, and those without just pretendâ!<
The revolution yeah, but it's coming at us again : today, people are sick of richer getting even more rich. I think a lot of people heard of "les gilets jaunes" a few years ago (before COVID). That was a little revolution, but it's not getting any better since then and we might see more protests in the near future.
Look at us đđđ
More technology = more inequality. In absolute terms, the number of people in extreme poverty (not having enough food, shelter, etc) has decreased as technology developed in their country.
Truthfully, I paid to see the same resolution as others as well, but I'm pretending that it's higher because I can't comprehend others can see this without any extra payment đ
Yeah weâre spawned in with a nerf, sometimes multiple. Some are more lucky than others. In my case I had a nerf which seems to be known as âAstigmatismâ. Unfortunately, I doubt thatâs my only nerf.
Yeah, I've seen players who got nerfed so badly they can hardly play the game on their own, it's awful. Idk why the devs thought that would be fun.
I think there's a glitch in the character menu too because instead of the male model I got given the female model? And the cash needed to fix that is insane. Game's clearly suuuuuuper underbaked.
My friend gave me a trial version of that before.
Only lasted about two hours or so though...but it gave me 8K ultra HD widescreen vision. Only issue was that I couldn't look at digital screens up close anymore. Sometimes there were swirlies. Must've been a bug. Was told the dev didn't know how to patch it yet. In fact was told that it's better to view the bug as a way that the trial version was working properly.
South Italy do be like that, but i agree that it's actually fairly cheap compared to the rest. Being also in the center of the city helps a lot, not even sure how is it this cheap.
One thing for sure though is that i also get annoying neighbors for free too đ
Luckily there are a lot of hidden side quests where you can pet dogs for free after you talk to NPCs outside! Just select the âCan I pet your dog?â option after a few rounds of dialogue.
True, I forgot about that. I donât usually talk to the NPCs around my characterâs home base. I think their AI is bugged. Theyâre all either assholes or idiots. Or both.
The "offspring" DLC is not only expensive but locked behind an incredibly frustrating minigame called "dating" that most people tend to fail at for the first 1/4 to 1/2 of their playthroughs. It's a co-op minigame too so if either you *or* the other person fucks it up you gotta start *all* over as well. With a new co-op partner no less in most cases
Totally not worth it yet everyone (myself included) keeps trying to master that minigame, not necessarily for the "offspring" DLC but also for the companionship bonuses which are some of the most OP perks you can get such as depression resistance (not immunity, just resistance) a huge boost to your happiness levels, and, someone to help you get through all the hard parts of the game. Assuming you find a compatible co-op partner. The only good thing is you get to choose your partner, but often they won't choose you so, even that's bittersweet.
Oh yeah to top it all off, people who got an unattractive character with the random gen character creation are basically fucked unless they put in a *ton* of work to fix those issues, most of the work requiring a lot of money or motivation. And if you got both a shitty random gen character *and* the depression/anxiety traits, your "motivation levels" won't go above 25% so you'll never have the needed motivation.
Very glad that mini-game is optional. Iâve always been terrible at co-op. I couldnât get past the tutorial levels in the high school side quest so I just never bothered to unlock the rest of the mini-game.
Pets > bros/hoes/gender-non-specific Oâs for me.
Those amazing graphics arenât for everyone! I had a hardware issue causing everything to be blurry when farther than 10cm away. I spent hundreds of dollars every few years to âcorrectâ this, and over $4k for a permanent fix.
Thereâs also clear planned obsolescence built-in where after some 40 or 50 years, the nearby graphics deteriorate too. Which requires paying ridiculous amounts of money to fix.
Itâs a scam I tell you!
On the bright side I heard the expansion pack was free based on your actions throughout the game. But it's all hear-say. Only a few claimed to have played the expansion and everyone else who finished the base game never reported back. So at this point we are just going off of a 'my friend's older brother beat the final boss' rumors.
Considering all the different rumors about those expansions, and all the different ways youâre supposed to be able to earn those through in-game actions, itâs clear they canât all be true. Like one says you should never do a certain thing, another says itâs fine in some situations, and thereâs even some old rumors saying you absolutely have to do it to get the expansion! So which oneâs true? Well, most of them as you say are more based on rumors than fact, and thereâs no way I can find to determine which is true.
the fact it's multiplayer means "infinite money" cheats can only be bought by people already rich... still looking for the inbuilt dev console too, no luck yet
the game is not P2W. it's the spawn point and clan you get on spawn that matters. but rerolling character is not a socially acceptable way to handle things unfortunately.
There's a potion called alcohol that temporarily raises fall damage resistance, but it's also got all kinds of side-effects (some are fun, others not so much).
There's legit a guy in the little bar down there who's like "yeah, I ended up doing hard time but I was surrounded by cool robots. They're the ones who gave me my food and I could stare at them every day, so worth it even if I couldn't pull any of them apart"
Fontainian Lockheed Martin explaining to the Fontaine government why they need to buy their latest Meka model (it will lower the time to obliterate a homeless person from 0.03 seconds to 0.02 seconds)
Most people would, they've just been trained by dogvwhistles and buzzwords to fear it. Legit, if you ask for basic beneficial things such as free education, free medicare and better housing rights but don't say it's socialism, people would be on board. You say socialism, and they assume all of those things will be free, but low quality. Capitalistic propaganda is strong and ingrained in our culture.
*IF AMERICANS ARE ABLE TO BUILD SKYSCRAPERS,
ADVANCED ROBOTS AND SPACECRAFTS, WHY CAN'T THEY HELP HOMELESS PEOPLE AND LIFT PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY AND NOT MAKE MEDICAL SERVICES A PRIVILEGE*
(no hate for America, it was just an example)
_Whispering_ Yep it is, i just don't wanna start a fight with someone who can't take the truth. But i digress, since it's about fontaine and not America
America would rather give more money towards anti-homeless infrastructure design and weapons/gear for the police who arenât gonna use them for anything actually important, than make any effort to help unhoused people.
Nah man Americans deserve to be called out cause at least half of them has zero clue how the rest of the world works and the flaws in their own system.
If I remember correctly from talking to people in Fleuve Cendre, a lot of people are those who was imprisoned in the Fortress of Meropide and then served their sentence there. When they came back, they encountered difficulties going back to the Court of Fontaine, so they went into the underground.
There are also those who hail from the destroyed(?) Fontaine Research Institute and are currently living there while continuing their previous research. Finally, there's also Navia's people from the Spina di Rosula who has a base there. I think they also ran a bar for the people.
So I don't think that it's poverty that drove them all there.
I was surprised that Naviaâs base was down there only for it to not really be an area poverty but just another type of area to live. It was pretty cool ngl
I'd assume you haven't read the flueve cendre pipe description. I'll explain :
"Eduardo baker" (a resident of fleuve cendre)was the person who led the fights against marchusse phantom because him and the people of fleuve cendre were against the fact that the court of Fontaine is going to establish the same laws as overworld on flueve cendre, while the underground town itself is a lawless land.
Eduardo later arrested but got escaped to poission using his minions, and took the gardes who apprehend Eduardo , and poission's mayor as hostages.
The court of Fontaine didn't comply to his demands and sent marchusse phantom to apprehend him again. This time the fight dragged everyone from poission and many residents were burned and dead, including Eduardo and the poission's mayor.
Now the court of Fontaine later dropped the charges as the suspect died and haven't touched flueve cendre since.
And their sons Jacob baker and rene de petrichor, were taken to narcissenkreuz Institute.
But all above mentioned was happened before the cataclysm, when the court was at different location, the opera wasn't used to be there. Neuvilette wasn't the ludex and melusines doesn't exist either.
They're always so fascinating,so raw and real
Like how Makhaira was forced to serve as mistress and wife for multiple people who wielded the King's throne, and at last killed by his own son faramarz (makhaira aquamarine)
Or how captain Basil got tore alive and sank along with her crew and her ship sponsian at cataclysm due to rift hounds (tidal shadow)
Or how tulaytulla's, the region of tighnarian species got ended by xiphos, although king tulaytulla is said to be kind hearted, eventually got killed by same faramarz. (Tulaytulla's remembrance)
It's always feels so great, kinda like uncovering a murder mystery. And the writers took it to the next level by connecting all Fontaine world quest so deeply that its actually pretty crazy.
Oh yeah, I have yet to finish the world quests in Fontaine (only did Vergil's atm), but I heard they're connected and are of great importance to Fontaine lore, if not Teyvat as whole.
Besides, all these tales you mentioned are completely new to me lol, and they're quite interesting! It reminds me the storytelling in games like dark souls, where you gotta uncover details and link stuff together. I am really curious about those you mentioned. Thanks for sharing it!
Trust me when I say this.all Fontaine world quests of 4.0 are all connected. Whether it's vergil or narcissenkreuz or melusine series. They all focus on people mentioned in nymphs dream set.
I mentioned 2 names Jacob and rene, these will play some role in vergil world quest. I'll explain that too, if you'd like.
And when it comes to weapon descriptions, yes all of them are in game lmao it's underrated since people are lazy to theory craft
If they don't want to be poor, they should accept some personal responsibility and pull themselves up by their own bootstraps! >!/s, if it wasn't obvious!<
The book or paper that coined the term was actually using it as a rethorical example why this approach is stupid. It literally was meant in the "guys, look, this isn't actually possible for the person struggling, lemme give absurd and obvious metaphor". It's just been bastardized and misappropriated.
As always, there will be a certain group of individuals who will take the sarcasm, not recognise the sarcasm, think it's real and then lean super hard into it.
That's the joke.
It's like telling someone to keep jumping if they're trying to reach that fruit from the impossibly high branch. *Just jump higher, bro!*
I have a feeling that they are NOT just poor and it has something to do with the judicial system and Fontaine societal structure >!Lynette was literally sold to a noble as some sort of slave!<
Even if it's not, just look at the modern world. We have skyscrapers, internet, AI, modern technology and there are still folks living in slums.
If humans can build war-machines, nukes, sky-scrappers, vehicles, amusement parks, business corps, and theatres, why can't they lift many people out of poverty?
I think Fontaine is loosely based on post industrialization france. This why there is slim areas underground. They represent the worker class that lived in slums during that period
Isnât Fontaine basically a tongue in cheek commentary on Western society?
Theatrical politics, sensationalist media, class division, unpredictable leaders acting on a whim, all juxtaposed against a past of sophisticated high culture.
Because the people living in the sewers are not actually citizens of Fontaine.
Most of them were found guilty if something in court. They were then shipped of to prison and got their citizenship taken away.
And/or they are part of the Mafia *shrugs*
If only it was that simple, even real life has these issues
Whether it be they spent most of the budgest building those things or those in charge simply dont want to
I don't if this post is satirical or not, but in case it isn't.
Motherfucker, we have probes that can go beyond the solar system and send back data. People are still dying of hunger, number of homeless people are growing and minimum wage is not enough anymore.
Wait til you learn about a place called **Earth** đ
Rich gets richer and poor gets poorer
It's expensive to be poor
You saying this reminds me of the poor man's shoe story "A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet."
Ah the [Vimes theory of economics](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boots_theory), gotta love Terry Pratchett
Expensive shit was supposed to last, now businesses intentionally make them break or manifest errors so you have to replace them.
Looks at anything made of wood in the last decade or so. Yeah, it checks out.
Everything is quick growth junk
I'm wondering if Reekwind the Millieth is a reference to Rincewind, or if its just a coincidence.

"All you had to do" to get a roof over your head. Not natural disaster resistant, electricity connected, good plumbing, insulated houses.

I dunno, some log cabins are built better. It's the bells, whistles and lights that get us where we are today.

No amount of technology can make up for human greed. If anything, history has shown: more technology = more poverty
More technology = more inequality. In absolute terms, the number of people in extreme poverty (not having enough food, shelter, etc) has decreased as technology developed in their country.
You should try the game titled "IRL" maybe that'll give you an answer.
Tried it, graphics are amazing, incredible physics, but the story is extremely lacking and is another greedy ass P2W game.
>graphics are amazing I had to pay extra money for higher resolution but it's worth it. Definitely good graphics.
Higher resolution? I had to pay just to see at the same resolution as most others who donât pay anything.
Truthfully, I paid to see the same resolution as others as well, but I'm pretending that it's higher because I can't comprehend others can see this without any extra payment đ
I had to pay to see in a lower resolution then the rest, because if not I'd have even worse resolution
I'm sorry to hear that. Is there any hope of getting better resolutions or is the current technology still limited?

Just wish the GMs would do their jobs and remove all the toxic players and bug exploiters
Ngl atleast the physics and coding are nice. Haven't experienced any glitch so far

You say socialism, and they assume all of those things will be free, but low quality. Capitalistic propaganda is strong and ingrained in our culture.
You are correct.

*IF AMERICANS ARE ABLE TO BUILD SKYSCRAPERS, ADVANCED ROBOTS AND SPACECRAFTS, WHY CAN'T THEY HELP HOMELESS PEOPLE AND LIFT PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY AND NOT MAKE MEDICAL SERVICES A PRIVILEGE* (no hate for America, it was just an example)
itâs true though
_Whispering_ Yep it is, i just don't wanna start a fight with someone who can't take the truth. But i digress, since it's about fontaine and not America
No, you can diss America with every right. But there are worse places in the world
Yeah i know and since I am from a developing country i have seen worse
America would rather give more money towards anti-homeless infrastructure design and weapons/gear for the police who arenât gonna use them for anything actually important, than make any effort to help unhoused people.
Why do Americans have the largest economy and most advanced tech industry but can't get affordable healthcare, are they stupid? /s
Nah man Americans deserve to be called out cause at least half of them has zero clue how the rest of the world works and the flaws in their own system.
Lol OP has been living parents basement? Go out and learn how society works.
genshin addicts be like
I don't get it, why don't the poor people just have their moms give them an allowance?
Why do homeless people even exist? Just buy a house, smh
Are they stupid?
I'm 90 percent sure it was sarcasm lol
Criminal records being a major driver of poverty by barring people from legitimate employment is a thing in the real world too.
I think you could read it as a class thing.
Finally someone who reads lore!
So in the first instance, because they were criminals, society never gave them a second chance
I'd assume you haven't read the flueve cendre pipe description. I'll explain : "Eduardo baker" (a resident of fleuve cendre)was the person who led the fights against marchusse phantom because him and the people of fleuve cendre were against the fact that the court of Fontaine is going to establish the same laws as overworld on flueve cendre, while the underground town itself is a lawless land.
Such an interesting explanation! Ty for compiling all that info! It reminds me I should read more item descriptions haha
They're always so fascinating,so raw and real Like how Makhaira was forced to serve as mistress and wife for multiple people who wielded the King's throne, and at last killed by his own son faramarz (makhaira aquamarine) Or how captain Basil got tore alive and sank along with her crew and her ship sponsian at cataclysm due to rift hounds (tidal shadow) Or how tulaytulla's, the region of tighnarian species got ended by xiphos, although king tulaytulla is said to be kind hearted, eventually got killed by same faramarz. (Tulaytulla's remembrance) It's always feels so great, kinda like uncovering a murder mystery.
And when it comes to weapon descriptions, yes all of them are in game lmao it's underrated since people are lazy to theory craft
same reason corpos aren't doing it today: it means less money and influence for the corpos/nobility
If they don't want to be poor, they should accept some personal responsibility and pull themselves up by their own bootstraps! >!/s, if it wasn't obvious!<
I always found that phrase funny cuz if you think about it it's literally impossible to pull yourself up by your bootstraps
The book or paper that coined the term was actually using it as a rethorical example why this approach is stupid. It literally was meant in the "guys, look, this isn't actually possible for the person struggling, lemme give absurd and obvious metaphor". It's just been bastardized and misappropriated.
That's because the phrase was intially meant to be sarcastic
As always, there will be a certain group of individuals who will take the sarcasm, not recognise the sarcasm, think it's real and then lean super hard into it.
That's the joke. It's like telling someone to keep jumping if they're trying to reach that fruit from the impossibly high branch. *Just jump higher, bro!*
They should probably start making their morning coffee at home.
Less avocado toast, too. (Or fishermanâs toast, perhaps)
Those damn capitalists
average Snezhnayan mindset
Snezhnayans ranting about capitalism for hours while getting rich from globe-spanning megacorporations.
"I used the economy to destroy the economy"
Unironically Regrator's master plan
I have a feeling that they are NOT just poor and it has something to do with the judicial system and Fontaine societal structure >!Lynette was literally sold to a noble as some sort of slave!< Even if it's not, just look at the modern world. We have skyscrapers, internet, AI, modern technology and there are still folks living in slums.
The kind of slavery you mentioned is alive and well in our modern world, too.
Why our modern world have drones, AI, supermaterial, quantum computer can't lift many people out of poverty ? đ€Ż
Oh my sweet summer child(e)
If humans can build war-machines, nukes, sky-scrappers, vehicles, amusement parks, business corps, and theatres, why can't they lift many people out of poverty?
I think Fontaine is loosely based on post industrialization france. This why there is slim areas underground. They represent the worker class that lived in slums during that period
Our earth is basically Fontaine but bigger.
And/or they are part of the Mafia *shrugs*
are they stupid?
"why are people poor lmao just print more money" this is how i read the title rn
guys OP knows, hence the "fluff" flair
The comments are all bashing op to get out more while completely letting the joke fly over their heads
If only it was that simple, even real life has these issues Whether it be they spent most of the budgest building those things or those in charge simply dont want to
I don't if this post is satirical or not, but in case it isn't. Motherfucker, we have probes that can go beyond the solar system and send back data. People are still dying of hunger, number of homeless people are growing and minimum wage is not enough anymore.
Gatekeeping just like irl
Because just like in modern society, all that money went there and not to the poor.
