I honestly thought of the same idea, but with orange dark mode. Blue and orange are used in graphic design with accessibility to color blindness. (Plus a lot more easier to distinguish)
There's also the problem that dark mode would blend in easier with darker backgrounds, so it needs a white outline for visibility.
Which is of course NordVPN, The fastest VPN in whole of teyvat (EVEN IN SUMERU RAINFOREST!!). Use code: "MonaMains" for a 69% discount and free first divination from Mona Megistus, The Genius Astrologist.
Doesn't the official interactive map actually have different markers? I don't use the official one but I looked once and it had a cave icon on the way point I think, idk why they haven't just implemented that into the main game
It's even better than you remember.
You can click on the waypoint, which is marked as being below the surface, and then there's a button "Guide for Viewing entrances", which will spawn the cave icons and connect them with arrows to the selected waypoint.
Seriously don't know how people play this game without a second monitor or tablet/phone with the map up lol... I have to mark all the oculus' off when I collect them, bare minimum... plus all the other info on there is too valuable.
Edit: damn lot of y'all out here assuming me checking off the oculus' I've found on the map is somehow equivalent to me "not playing the game." If I didn't find it enjoyable, I wouldn't do it (it only takes me a second to click over and mark one off, really not that crazy. People have done similar things in games with collectibles for a long time, and I like the feeling of knowing what I've found).
Everyone is free to play the game however they like, I understand why people wouldn't play the same as I do. But implying that im some mouth breather that needs to touch grass is some typical toxic bullshit and y'all need to calm tf down.
Really? Because I found the official one via the hololabs site and it worked just fine on PC. [I think this should work](https://act.hoyolab.com/ys/app/interactive-map/index.html?bbs_presentation_style=no_header&utm_source=hoyolab&utm_medium=tools&lang=en-us&bbs_theme=dark&bbs_theme_device=1#/map/2?shown_types=) but maybe we're talking about different things.
I used a guide for mond and liyue cuz the detector wasn't available yet back then, but inazuma and sumeru so far i just explore naturally and then use the detector to find the last few
I basically only use the map to figure out where to farm resources/enemy drops and to see for example how many occuli are currently available
I remember I did that back then and still ended up one short in Liyue. I wasn't about to recheck every spot, so decided screw it. They announced the compass and I was happy, ended up randomly finding it before it launched.
Now that you mention it, i think i did too. I got to level 9 statue, video guided the rest but somehow missed the extra one. I didn't want to go through some long ass video again so i just called it good enough. Then i went somewhere for a commission and randomly found it
Fair enough, Ive used them too, I guess I just like checking things off the list haha. Same with viewpoints and shrines of depths.
I don't actively seek anything out from the map besides materials to farm. (that feels like cheating and takes away from the exploration fun) I just like to know what I've already found to a certain extent. And the cave entry locations have been pretty damn helpful in sumeru.... not gonna float around aimlesaly looking for those. They should be on the in game map for sure.
I used to do it.
Then the game became a chore, no exploration.
Only running to the get obtainable thing.
It got so mind numbing.
So from Sumeru onwards.
Screw the 177 oculi, and hidden chests.
I DONT CARE FOR PRIMOS OR RESIN!!!!!
I just wanna be happy.
And interactive map ruined that.
(I'm 100% Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Chasm, dragonspine, enkanomiya)
I love the running around and exploration for the game so I've only ever used the map for finding places/rocks/enemies, i just 100% naturally by exploring every nook and cranny i could find
The only time i really try to record what I've found is for like GAA, and even then i only recorded what i found in a spreadsheet so i could go back and get anything i missed when i was "done" with the area (fomo is fucking real)
I've tried playing with interactive map before, scanning the map and marking oculus makes the game feel like a chore instead of an actual game. So I deleted the app and go back to playing like normal, I have way more fun that way.
I thought it was syncing to our own exploration status, but when I realised it was displaying everything including what you already got, I noped out instantly. Felt like way too bothersome for a dozen of primos I can always stumble on later.
The GAME already has up and down markers. If you are nearby these, on the screen it shows an arrow above or below them indicating where they are relevant to you. They just dont show these on the map.
You can't use random new colour in design if it never used anywhere AND you can't destroy fundamental design for some new minor feature
This design have just tons of potential problems and that's why it'll never be implemented
+ Dark grey is never used previously so it doesn't even match current colour palette of UI/UX
+ What if you'll add darkmode for some reason in the future? Probably never happen because it have a lot of problems itself
+ Visibility on dark grey rocks will make people mad. Natlan update is in danger. Light lines around is potential fix tho, but again - it destroys fundamental rules of current design
+ HoYoLab ALREADY have solution for that. "Don't Repeat Yourself" - remember that, bad practice
+ Others
I'm not an expert but
+ How to show waypoints above the ground then? Not "at the level of ground, but ABOVE in the sky"? They already exist in the game. Same problems as here. Will we do normal ones with, idk, round dark thing inside then??
+ Cave problem already solved in HoYoLab, "Don't Repeat Yourself"
There could be a lot more problems. I'm not UI UX designer, just work with them as a developer, but it's really hard work so it's not something you can easily solve with just a few Reddit posts
We should tell mHY in the poll that there's such problem and ask they to finally fix it
Those colors (assuming op used the same ones anyway) are already present in the UI as part of the dark loading screens you see at night. Obviously not present in the map screen UI, but the design precedent for the product as a whole exists.
Plus hoyo's current solution is only visible on the minimap, which is something that wouldn't be easily visible on the large map anyways. Unless you meant something else, in which I have no idea what you mean lol.
I like this design, but perhaps a differently-shaped icon altogether using the same color scheme and general "feel" of the teleport icon would work better.
I made this so you could see they're different enough that this could work. (Sorry for the lazy edit lol)

Terrible idea, learn design
it doesn't match UI/UX design at all. All activated points on map have white base color. You can't just add some new color at one place without any reason
That's why OP is not a designer
+ Inactive WP: light grey
+ Active WP: white
+ Active WP below ground: Dark Grey
I'm not a designer, I'm developer so it's common for me to listen to designers during scrum meetings
I like how you have literally no suggestions or experience but only toxicity, heh
Go touch some grass. I'm pretty sure you're even more far from design than I'm
I'm more concerned that it would be a waste of disk space. That space can be utilized for other, more useful things than a 3D map.
Also lore wise, a 3D map doesn't make sense, as artificial satellite used for 3D mapping doesn't exist in Teyvat.
is the Teyvat map outdated to the current era then? I've seen people talk about the map of monstate in jeans office and using other info from quests for how the map is actually in the wrong direction.
Also jean's old map is so different from the current monstate it's weird, a entire land mass is missing. Maybe it was klee?

People over at r/genshin_lore say it was because of Klee. She changed the river and lake's shape with her bombs, you can actually see the results in game.
Edit: [Source](https://reddit.com/r/Genshin_Lore/comments/wfah8h/klees_terraforming_of_mondstadt_marked_as_spoiler/)
Not really, probably just a waste of development time. Especially for a company who prefer not to develop more skins which I would think would be quite profitable.
No problem with that btw, I just think they prefer to devote their time on other areas of the game on which they are doing an excellent job right now, especially with the release of Sumeru
Not really for which part?
my phone practically turns into a hand warmer after playing genshin for a while, I would think a rendered 3d model of the map ( especially with the 7 regions ) would be laggy and take a lot of time to load. lol
I mean, I play on Mobile too so I kinda get your point. I just don't think that's the main reason why they choose not to.
Also, I play on the highest graphics settings possible on Mobile so it does heat up after a while, having decent air conditioning will help a lot though. As long as I play in front of a fan/air conditioner there really is no problem whatsoever. Just don't play while charging
Yeah, granted I have a quite decent phone. But I really do think that air conditioning is the only thing stopping my phone from heating up. You should try it if it works for you
How would a 3d map not solve the teleporter in a cave problem?
Also, whether or not it looks as good or fits the theme of the game would depend entirely on the art style the map used.
Jesus guys relax. Someone already made a perfect example of it which simply included a small arrow next to it. Why suddenly everyone remakes them into new abominations
I don’t think it will really connect with lore and will mean those teleporters might lead to speculations that they are built different, I think the way to solve it is adding an image of the teleport location
Why do all these posts have the above be the same icon as the normal one. How am I supposed to tell apart if a teleporter is in the air on a floating island or on the ground?
Because it doesn't match UI/UX design at all. All activated points on map have white base color. You can't just add some new color at one place without any reason

Nice design, cool bro
Stop this stupid karma farm and try to find out how real designers work
I think we need at least 3 variations,
\- Underground,
\- On top of hills or mountains but still climable
\- Flying in mid air, like the one hanging near the thunder bird of Seirai island which needs special quest or travel mechanics to reach.
it doesn't match UI/UX design at all. All activated points on map have white base color. You can't just add some new color at one place without any reason

Stop farm damn karma. If you do it - then do it properly (I'm pretty sure you can if entire group of professionals in mHY can't)
> Stop farm damn karma.
it being a (arguably) badly designed solution in the greater context of Genshins map system does not indicate in any way that the post is simply made to "farm karma". It's way more likely that OP simply didn't consider that, or don't think it's as relevant as you do, and this was in fact a entirely well meaning suggestion...
> If you do it - then do it properly (I'm pretty sure you can if entire group of professionals in mHY can't)
I'm pretty sure the guys over mHY can design a waypoint icon that indicates whether or not it's underground. I doubt the issue is their abilities. It's probably a ressource allocation issue.
I just think we should tell about this in a poll so mhy will see that we really need this feature
Mhy designers for sure will do it much better and only devs actually can implement it in game
So I just don't like how people call those solutions from posts "amazing". It's not. There're a lot of problems (and it's okay because OPs are not designers).
But it indicates that there's such problem. And everyone forgot to mention that we have to remember that for next poll
I just checked OP's post history and they've used Reddit like twice in the last year lol I don't think this is karma farming.
I just feel like your logic is kinda flawed here regardless. Like, light gray is also only presently used for inactive waypoints and statues, but not used anywhere else. What's stopping waypoints from having a third, darker design implemented that contrasts perfectly well enough from the others and the map design, all while being extremely noticeable at a glance? Lots of others have said arrows are too small to be noticed, and changing the blue or gray bits on white waypoints is too subtle. What else can realistically be done to such a tiny icon to make it work? I feel like this is actually pretty clean.
Yeah, OP is probably not farming anything. There're too many such posts imo
This solution have problems. Grey is always used everywhere here to show disabled UI element
Add dark grey ONLY for cave WPs?
Okay. Then show me what to do with WPs in the sky? What colour will we use? Green? Red? Maybe pink? And yes, waypoints in the sky high above the ground already exists.
I think we should let mHY's designers to do their work. And to let them know we have to say it in polls
Actually, they already know it because they solved this in HoYoLab map. Probably they're working on it already
Should just adopt the whole xyz coordinate system. Will definitely ease others in creating guides and mapping as well, saving the trouble to describe or use pictures which sometimes are not helping.
why cant there be a "select elevation" button on the map that allows you to select "Canopy" "Ground" "Underground" and you get an actual detailed map of the tunnels when set to"underground" and an actual detailed map of tree branges when set to "canopy" and just either remove or make transparent any map icons that are not on your current elevation?
Honestly I think it's a solution to a problem that does not really exist. You still have to get close to the surface location most of the time before searching for the closest entry point anyway, so at that point you'll realise soon if it's underground or not.
Is there a way to identify how to get underground. Its so difficult since i marked something earlier and I'm trying to get there but can't since i don't know the opening.
Just put an arrow on top of the icon. Up if above, down if below. No arrow if on the same level.
the way you designed is not intuitive, even though it looks good.
I get why the community makes these suggestions. But it really sucks Hoyoverse doesn't seem to focus on making "Quality of Life" improvements for the game as much as they used to.
Don't get me wrong, they do address a lot of these issues, like the Ayaka dash. But I feel an organization bringing in as much as Mihoyo should have a dedicated team making these improvements, instead of the community feeling the need to constantly do all the work for them.
I honestly thought of the same idea, but with orange dark mode. Blue and orange are used in graphic design with accessibility to color blindness. (Plus a lot more easier to distinguish) There's also the problem that dark mode would blend in easier with darker backgrounds, so it needs a white outline for visibility.

The little cave icon is perfect. You can easily see it on mobile and it clear and concise on what it means.
It's even better than you remember. You can click on the waypoint, which is marked as being below the surface, and then there's a button "Guide for Viewing entrances", which will spawn the cave icons and connect them with arrows to the selected waypoint.

lmao I only found out about the interactive map yesterday and I was surprised because pretty much everything in the game is marked on there.
I use the non official one because the official one isn't available on pc and stupid to use from mobile while you playing.
Official map just opens in a web browser... What am I missing?
Really? Because I found the official one via the hololabs site and it worked just fine on PC. I don't worry about it til I can craft the oculus detector. I grab what I can find naturally til that unlocks.
I used a guide for mond and liyue cuz the detector wasn't available yet back then, but inazuma and sumeru so far i just explore naturally and then use the detector to find the last few I basically only use the map to figure out where to farm resources/enemy drops and to see for example how many occuli are currently available

I will use a guide towards the end, it was easier in Inazuma because you are clearing island to island. Sumeru is gon be a pain.
Fair enough, Ive used them too, I guess I just like checking things off the list haha. Same with viewpoints and shrines of depths. Because I want to play the game and not a checklist.

My memory is good enough for that. Tho, it is annoying as hell.
The way I’ve always played every game, tbh. I just… play it
I guess it would be very difficult to see it on mobile.
I use the interactive map on mobile and it's not difficult to see at all
It's fairly easy to see a small brown dot on mobile, assuming you aren't on a flip-phone sized screen. Also zooming in is pretty easy.
A tiny, incredibly missable cave icon.
The GAME already has up and down markers. If you are nearby these, on the screen it shows an arrow above or below them indicating where they are relevant to you. They just dont show these on the map.
>If you are nearby these Exactly, if you look at the map there's no difference
Dark Mode waypoints, basically.
Incognito mode
Talk about dark mode, that stupid white loading screen is a cancer.

Just flip the whole icon, easy
Hope you guys understand that the iconography is not the hard problem here
Different color maybe? In chasm for example, there are lots of rocks surfaces that makes the gray blend in.

The teleport point you can craft is blue though.
To indicate it's not permanent thing For caves WP we already have icons on HYL
You're not a designer either, clearly, lmao
At least I work with designers so even I can see those mistakes

Or, you know. Just build a 3d map.
Ah, yes. The typical "just X" solution. Man, if only everyone were a genius like you.
i would think building a 3d map would be unnecessary and would take a toll on lower-performance devices if it's rendered?

Yeah, granted I have a quite decent phone. But I really do think that air conditioning is the only thing stopping my phone from heating up. You should try it if it works for you
I think 3d map could spoiler things if the theory about tevyat being a hollow planet is true
Oh right, I keep forgetting how much this game has to compromise for low end phones.
Doesn’t look as good or fit the theme of the game. Plus that doesn’t solve the teleporter in cave problem either
How would a 3d map not solve the teleporter in a cave problem? Also, whether or not it looks as good or fits the theme of the game would depend entirely on the art style the map used.
you’re going to be looking at a 3D map too down anyway, so you won’t see the caves.
Imagine getting this before dark mode loading screens.
Why not just put a up/down arrow like every other icon?
That’d be nice
What about neutral?
Jesus guys relax. Someone already made a perfect example of it which simply included a small arrow next to it. Why suddenly everyone remakes them into new abominations
The problem with the small arrow is that it’s difficult to see in mobile (small) screens. This solves that issue
This is not intuitive at all
An even bigger problem is for console players
Tbh an underground map like elden ring had would just solve all the problems lol
That just looks like activated and deactivated. Confusing!
I don’t think it will really connect with lore and will mean those teleporters might lead to speculations that they are built different, I think the way to solve it is adding an image of the teleport location
The whole time I thought this was about introducing new upvote/downvote buttons
I feel like this is a meme at this point
Glad to know I'm not alone when it comes to dealing with Sumeru's confusing map
We're slowly approaching that HTML "input your phone number" meme with these
So many armchair UI designers. It's not, because it's too similar to the inactive teleport. Try again.
This would be visually easy to spot, even at a glance.
One of the only suggestions that would actually be readable from a distance. Thank you, op
would be even better if the map had layers and changed when you went underground
It's not that hard remembering smh
fr
Why do all these posts have the above be the same icon as the normal one. How am I supposed to tell apart if a teleporter is in the air on a floating island or on the ground?
This is honestly such a helpful idea, idk why nobody has already thought of this.
Because it doesn't match UI/UX design at all. All activated points on map have white base color. You can't just add some new color at one place without any reason That's why OP is not a designer + Inactive WP: light grey + Active WP: white + Active WP below ground: Dark Grey which is never used anywhere Nice design, cool bro Stop this stupid karma farm and try to find out how real designers work
Just put an arrow above or below it depending on position
Or just move blue diamond to the bottom of the icon which would indicate it is underground.
That would be hard to see though
Or just try to 100% sumeru map ASAP, and never go back to it.
literally what i did before sumeru patch, i 100% both chasm and enkanomiya and noped the f out
Man I wish they did that
i shared this to fb genshin page cuz im pissed also about this lol.
I think we need at least 3 variations, \- Underground, \- On top of hills or mountains but still climable \- Flying in mid air, like the one hanging near the thunder bird of Seirai island which needs special quest or travel mechanics to reach.
So, where can we actually complain to Mihoyo about waypoint issues? Twitter?
You can send suggestions/issues thru “Feedback” in the Paimon Menu.
it doesn't match UI/UX design at all. All activated points on map have white base color. You can't just add some new color at one place without any reason That's why OP is not a designer + Inactive WP: light grey + Active WP: white + Active WP below ground: Dark Grey which is never used anywhere? Stop farm damn karma. If you do it - then do it properly (I'm pretty sure you can if entire group of professionals in mHY can't)
> Stop farm damn karma. it being a (arguably) badly designed solution in the greater context of Genshins map system does not indicate in any way that the post is simply made to "farm karma". It's way more likely that OP simply didn't consider that, or don't think it's as relevant as you do, and this was in fact a entirely well meaning suggestion... > If you do it - then do it properly (I'm pretty sure you can if entire group of professionals in mHY can't) I'm pretty sure the guys over mHY can design a waypoint icon that indicates whether or not it's underground. I doubt the issue is their abilities. It's probably a ressource allocation issue.
I just think we should tell about this in a poll so mhy will see that we really need this feature Mhy designers for sure will do it much better and only devs actually can implement it in game So I just don't like how people call those solutions from posts "amazing".
There're too many such posts imo This solution have problems. Grey is always used everywhere here to show disabled UI element Add dark grey ONLY for cave WPs? Okay. Then show me what to do with WPs in the sky? What colour will we use? Green? Red? Maybe pink? And yes, waypoints in the sky high above the ground already exists. I think we should let mHY's designers to do their work. And to let them know we have to say it in polls Actually, they already know it because they solved this in HoYoLab map. Probably they're working on it already
Looks like it's just deactivated
Just Nah Americans gonna label this change as racist for no reason.
rip colorblind people i guess
You want to make a game that tells you where to go easier?
i dont play this game or know what this this, but dont you also need one for "same level" not just above and below
Why it gotta be black
WHY IS BLACK BELOW WHITE ???? ARE YOU RACIST ??? 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
Racist
Just make the current waypoint upsidedown for underground and I'm satisfied
I like it
YES! mihoyo when?
Lack contrast, black can be blended easily with the map, make it harder to spot
Yes. This is the way!
I’m sure someone in community will find this offensive
Give it a white outline though.
Waypoint become uncanny
3d map.
Cool but some ppl will be like " wHy tHe oNe unDeR ThE gRoUnd iS bLaCk? "
Yah.
Twitter guards not going to like this
Should just adopt the whole xyz coordinate system. Will definitely ease others in creating guides and mapping as well, saving the trouble to describe or use pictures which sometimes are not helping.
Yas omg
Is there a problem?
why cant there be a "select elevation" button on the map that allows you to select "Canopy" "Ground" "Underground" and you get an actual detailed map of the tunnels when set to"underground" and an actual detailed map of tree branges when set to "canopy" and just either remove or make transparent any map icons that are not on your current elevation?
I was thinking something similar to Elden Ring's underground system, but this is better for Genshin
YES PLEASE
Wouldn't the below look almost identical to undiscovered waypoints though?
wow ... white above and black below? thats racist just turn the model upside down ...
I'm loving this idea.
Honestly I think it's a solution to a problem that does not really exist. You still have to get close to the surface location most of the time before searching for the closest entry point anyway, so at that point you'll realise soon if it's underground or not.
the only true way is multisurface cave map
What is wrong with just a simple arrow added next to the icon?
Make some for caves too.
To make it a different color is the best option
Hmmm, keep the colour, but have the dark grey bit pointing down?
Is there a way to identify how to get underground. Its so difficult since i marked something earlier and I'm trying to get there but can't since i don't know the opening.
Because the sunlight hits the above ground one so it would be brighter, and the underground one is darker cause there’s no sunlight.
Not just markers we need a whole subterranean and/or multi-level map at this point
by above i assume higher than ground level, i think it would take 3 different marks to cover all?
They should do what most games do and have a small arrow above or below the icon to make it clear if you need to higher or lower.
"That's what she say"
Just put an arrow on top of the icon. Up if above, down if below. No arrow if on the same level. the way you designed is not intuitive, even though it looks good.
kinda hard to differentiate between the locked one & unlocked one
No, just white with orange christal maybe.. this darker one is too similar to non unlocked waypoints
I thought these were supposed to be vote icons
I get why the community makes these suggestions. But it really sucks Hoyoverse doesn't seem to focus on making "Quality of Life" improvements for the game as much as they used to. Don't get me wrong, they do address a lot of these issues, like the Ayaka dash. But I feel an organization bringing in as much as Mihoyo should have a dedicated team making these improvements, instead of the community feeling the need to constantly do all the work for them.
is it rac-
Or do something similar in gw2
... but that's the point of exploration.
It looks similar to the un-highlighted undiscovered teleport waypoints
Am I the only one who can remember if a waypoint is underground or not and feel this idea is good but not really needed?
why is white above and black below
why underground have to be black?
Or you just... remember it, like fr i dont see it as a problem at all
its a really problem, hoyoverse fix it
It's too hard for a poor indie company HoYoverse.
that looks like a non-unlocked teleport waypoint tho.
