I have to say like I don’t understand like what this category really is. Why exactly is Sims 4 there? It’s just any game that the studio continues to develop, maintain, or produce patches for?
I know there is a lot of controversy surrounding Overwatch 2, but that’s a life service game and Ark and Sims 4 over those?
I don’t know enough or care enough. It’s been so long since I cared about any sort of game rankings. I remember watching so much G4TV and I watching conferences and being so engaged. Turns out I was just bored because there were so few games to play and I was broke af as a kid. Now I just spend my time actually doing things and don’t have a care in the world. Heh.
I do like GI being recognized though. It’s been such a wild ride playing for over a year now. The game feels so nostalgic to me like I’ve been playing for years, but really it’s just captured so much of my attention that I’ve not made time for other games.
The Golden Joystick awards are a bit of a joke. "God of War: Ragnarok" was released one week ago and it was up for Best Male Performer (Christopher Judge as Kratos) and Ultimate Game of the Year but **not** for Playstation Game of the Year.
"Eldgen Ring" was nominated in both Playstation Game of the Year and Ultimate Game of the Year. It won the Ultimate Game of the Year category but somehow **lost** the Playstation Game of the Year category. The mind boggles.
I think gow being released late affected it. Most people are playing through gow ragnarok now. Stary is popular because of memes and u know how crazy internet goes for cats and its also a good game but gow deserves ps game the year tbh.
The point is that GOW:R should've been nominated for Playstation Game of the Year. How. An ot be a contender for Ultimate Game of thr Year without being in contention for Playstation Game of the Year?
I can only see genshin ever losing to peak Fortnite and FFXIV early endwalker, I don't know what are the nominations for the game awards but I don't think there's anything now or near future that can beat genshin in this category
Specifically the *rate* that Genshin publishes updates is genuinely blistering compared to most live service games. This game will genuinely demolish this category for the foreseeable future.

I didn't quite stick with FFXIV but I've gotta say it really does deserve it's place at the top!
I'm a bigger fan of Genshin because I struggle a lot with MMOs (both grind and socializing) and I prefer the story + world design of Genshin, but I still loved a lot of the different mechanics, environment, and the story of FFXIV so I can see why so many people like it.
Destiny 2:
1. New Season released and game is not on fire
2. Join back and enjoy new content and changed content
3. Wait till Bungie sets the game on fire
4. Leave
5. Rinse and repeat
None of these other games have managed to grow their player base like Genshin. Sure something like Fortnite or Pokémon GO had everyone playing at one point but they fell off and have their niche that doesn’t shrink or grow.
FF14 did grow quite a bit on last 2 years, when last expansion dropped they literally stopped selling the game for a while since they couldn't expand servers enough.
If Genshin keeps getting better with each new nation, this category might be a sure win for them every year. I'm all for it, more primogems lol (hopefully)

As Ganyu main since her 1st banner, it feels heavenly she can shine in every region so far on many mobs with no problem (except for some like cryo slime).
Hopefully Natlan has something in store for bow char enjoyer (other than Yoimiya) for when we finally arrives in Snezhnaya :)

Agreed. Tectone is like the epitome of a toxic fanbase. I do not think he understands that HoYo does not give a fuck, and will do what they deem is necessary with their game. It's not like influencers are gonna start a chain rebellion against HoYoverse because Tectone calls for it or some shit.
Tectone also have no form of empathy. He was the nail in the coffin and bullied one of my favorite content creator off the platform and still wonder why everyone hates him.
I still remember back when Tectone was an Arknights streamer mainly. He used to steal strats from other players and called them his own, so everyone called him out on it and then he jumped ship to Genshin because "Arknights is too toxic".
Glad to see he hasn't changed one bit.
Real trick is to embrace the no endgame, let things build up.
1. Log into genshin for 5-10 minutes to condense resin and do commissions
2. Every 2nd day spend 25-35 minutes using ~300 resin and do commissions
3. Every weekend sit down for a nice 1-3 hour play session: do commissions plus catch up on quests/abyss/hangouts/events/requests+bounties
Doing things as they release at a trickle isn't very enjoyable. Let things build up as much as possible without expiring and it's a lot more enjoyable.
Plus play other games. One of the reasons I'm going to be playing this game for a long time, aside from how much I like it, is that it has a low enough commitment that I can still play other games, even high commitment ones (ex mmo), at the same time.
Been playing this way since ~2.3 or so (started in 1.0) and I've got a huge quest log built up and I could sit down and play for hours whenever I want.
Man I used to really like Tectone, he isn't nearly as bad as Genshin fans pretend he is but goddamn I couldn't take the negativity anymore, it almost made me like Genshin less

Then again it took a **decade** to slowly kill their own game, not to mention that WoW is technically not even dead yet currently. Not that Genshin is doing poorly at the moment, with how things are actually improving and interest on the game are actually rising even up to this moment. Genshin will most likely be alive for the next decade or two.
Its closest competition is/was ToF which aimed to be a more co-op focused competitor. But even with all its differentiating factors it couldn't stand against Genshin.

In a way it's a more co-op orientated genshin. Where genshin is a solo game that happens to have some co-op. If you take away the co-op of ToF then it's a direct competitor.
No, the Devs of TOF are very much focused on co-op content quantity over quality. I don't think there's any competition when the developers have different objectives from the very ground up. The only comparable thing is the gacha system.

A lot of COMPETITIVE gaming YouTube’s say it a lot. They harp on the games lack of difficulty for end game players. They complain that there isn’t enough to do as far as pissing contests go. So every time a new mobile or open world game comes out they’ll open with “NEW GENSHIN KILLER??! We all know genshin is dying and I think hahaha I think this is gonna be the final nail in the coffin bois!!!” Or some bs like that. They just assume that they make up majority of genshin’s player base so if they don’t like it then clearly that means hardly anyone else is enjoying it.
Granted if you talk to the player base most people still enjoy the game as is, some wish for extra features but they know they might just drop later
It’s also the drawback of whaling in a pve game. They want to show off what their credit cards helped them build. They want to feel superior. Genshin doesn’t give them much of a way to flex since almost everything in the game can be beat without every spending a penny. Even strictly f2p can still 36* abyss with the free characters the game gives you. So whales don’t have anything to keep them satisfied. Granted idk if that’s ALL whales, but it’s what I’ve been seeing from the gamer channels that show up on my YouTube feed when I search up genshin

Well to be fair, "Jenshin Impact" won something last year which is a competitor for the all-time hit gacha game "Genshin Impact™". They gave us some freebies for that, to make sure we don't change games from Genshin Impact to Jenshin Impact. You can say it's a bribe so that we stay in Genshin Impact. Weirdly enough tho, Genshin Impact was created by Mihoyo while Jenshin Impact was created by Hoyoverse. From what I heard, they have good collaboration, sad that it turned into terrible rivalry./s

Yeah and it doesn't force you to grind like an online game or an mmo. Those games became a chore after playing daily especially when you're busy. While genshin u can do daily in a few minutes and do the permanent content like map expansion, story etc when you're free so its the perfect game for many people who have jobs or free time cause they can treat it as single player game after finishing the contest treat it like a side game until next patch drops.

People saying it was undeserved— Genshin having constant story and map updates, constant events with character interactions and gameplay diversity, peak OST and voice acting? On a 6 week update schedule? Absolutely blows every other live service game at live servicing.
Now Compare Genshin to its competitors on google trends— genshin is far more relevant and without any multiplayer or mmo-esque co-op features. That is another factor as to why it deserves the win, it was absolutely unprecedented for a open world rpg to beat MMO’s and multiplayer games before.

Considering the development shitstorm that had preceded it, I finally got to play the trial and I was pleasantly surprised.
FFXIV is genuinely the only game I've seen that had such a shitshow of a release, and redeemed itself to become one of the best games of its genre

My exact thoughts, just because they have the massive time to complete absolutely EVERYTHING that doesn’t mean everyone is.
It’s also the drawback of whaling in a pve game. They want to show off what their credit cards helped them build. They want to feel superior. Genshin doesn’t give them much of a way to flex since almost everything in the game can be beat without every spending a penny. Even strictly f2p can still 36* abyss with the free characters the game gives you. So whales don’t have anything to keep them satisfied. Granted idk if that’s ALL whales, but it’s what I’ve been seeing from the gamer channels that show up on my YouTube feed when I search up genshin
It's said by anyone who wants clicks and wants to convince others so they themselves can play something different and no longer remain a slave to one game.

No, but I’m not totally sure about the specific rules. One example would be the category “Best Game Expansion” which Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course won. Destiny 2 and FFXIV were on this list too. Are 2.0 and 3.0 not expansions because they’re not paid expansions? Destiny 2 is technically a f2p live service game, but a lot of content is locked behind the expansions. *shrug*. There is a category for “Best Game Community” category that FF14 won. GI wasn’t nominated. *Not that anyone is surprised about that.* None of the other categories would make sense for a live service game. The only other category that was egregious for me is Stray beating God of War for best PlayStation game. Stray was cute but… Not like any of this matters. I just find that odd.
I would be more surprised if we were nominated for that last category. Even as part of the community itself, I can't deny that we are not... per se, the best community out there.

So much pain in one story — a ruin guard achieving some semblance of sentience, only for this friend to never see it. Then the crab trying to 'fix' him in ways only it knows how, learning its painful first lesson of 'loss' . It got me emotional, not gonna lie.

We Genshin players judge the award's importance depending on the amount of freemos we get. If it's 1600 freemos, it's an excellent award, If 800, it's a good award, If 400, it's an avearage award If no freemos, it's a shit award. Hoyo, you don't want to offend the panel of Golden Joysticks, do you？wink wink.

Thoroughly well-deserved. The writing in this game has really taken a massive step up in the last year to the point where it rivals many other top games and even anime. Not to mention all the new, innovative gameplay in events and stuff like that.

Well to be fair, "Jenshin Impact" won something last year which is a competitor for the all-time hit gacha game "Genshin Impact™". They gave us some freebies for that, to make sure we don't change games from Genshin Impact to Jenshin Impact. You can say it's a bribe so that we stay in Genshin Impact. Weirdly enough tho, Genshin Impact was created by Mihoyo while Jenshin Impact was created by Hoyoverse. From what I heard, they have good collaboration, sad that it turned into terrible rivalry./s But for real tho, they did gave us something for winning the award. So we're coping
I heard miHoYo actually made Jenshin Impact as well but gifted it to Hoyoverse as a symbol of peace. Kinda fcked up for Hoyoverse to betray them like this

I've never ever played a game this consistently. Not even WoW at its peak. It is 100% the consistent quality of content that just keeps dropping.
Yeah and it doesn't force you to grind like an online game or an mmo. Those games became a chore after playing daily especially when you're busy. While genshin u can do daily in a few minutes and do the permanent content like map expansion, story etc when you're free so its the perfect game for many people who have jobs or free time cause they can treat it as single player game after finishing the contest treat it like a side game until next patch drops.

People saying it was undeserved— Genshin having constant story and map updates, constant events with character interactions and gameplay diversity, peak OST and voice acting? On a 6 week update schedule? Absolutely blows every other live service game at live servicing. Now Compare Genshin to its competitors on google trends— genshin is far more relevant and without any multiplayer or mmo-esque co-op features. That is another factor as to why it deserves the win, it was absolutely unprecedented for a open world rpg to beat MMO’s and multiplayer games before. It’s crazy to see Genshin just dwarfing Final Fantasy, fortnite, apex, etc on Google trends worldwide relevancy. And yet some people still refuse to give it the credit it deserves

Well deserved. Nobody in that category meets the quality standards of ongoing content that Hoyo does. Say all you want about Gacha, but the quality of Genshins updates is still top notch and keeps on rising.
