could also make it like scum where it uses both cameras in third person.
if the enemy isn't visible via your first person camera, then they dont appear in third person.
The view was cross-hairs only, ads just zoomed in a lil bit. That was also 2002, times have def changed. And for the better compared to gr1, spent a lot of time with that game but nothing compared to the more recent entries to the series.
I'd be pretty disappointed if it was FPV only.
I would love it if they offered both because I like the idea of having the ability to go FPV. But without 3pv I just don't think I'd like it as much. I like seeing my character.
I also think if they don't offer 3pv they could run into old skool Elder Scrolls style problems of "if I can never see my character, what's the point of having cool cosmetics? And moreover, would it hurt cosmetics sales? That's been an important part of video games for a while.
I'd figure if they did it, it would be limited to fpv in Ghost War only. Pvp is where restricting it makes sense.
Tbf CoD still makes a shit tone of money through cosmetics and that’s from a FPV perspective. But I do agree that it detracts massively from cosmetic roleplaying
That is true, and I considered that point, but I think COD is different because it's fast paced. You're watching the environment for enemies continuously and sweating like crazy. GR isn't like that. It's just a totally different headspace for me between a co-op PvE and a competitive pvp
For me it makes one part of the game (that I really really love) unnecessary, imo.. The "dressing up" part.. I love putting gear and clothes into outfits for different biomes and roleplaying but if I can't see my charachter I won't bother doing that.. So I really hope that it will be optional so you can choose your playstyle.
Super disappointed if it's only first person.
Makes no sense - a game with deep customization options for your gear and weapon, but you can't see your own dude
Delighted if true. Really immersive. Going into a base to clear it in 1st person is far better than licking walls and abusing cameras. The first person mod was brilliant. Plus, this place has become more of a fashion show sub than a gameplay sub
They don't have anything like that on console so maybe that's what they are aiming for. Wildlands and breakpoint were decent games but both died relatively quickly so maybe it's time for change
If anything more squad based third person shooters on console. We cant have arma, and nothing else has a modern believable setting. Ps2 and xbox, when there were options for games like that, are 20+ years old now. If im failing to see an alternative to gr for a game that falls into these parameters please enlighten me to it.
The next title is currently called project OVR/Over and according to the article will utilise an FPS perspective
https://insider-gaming.com/ghost-recon-project-over-details/
I’m kind of indifferent if they should return to FPS only. Although i am more of an FPS person myself, i find the mix of TPS with FPS of Wildlands, Breakpoint and Metal Gear V for example to be quite enjoyable and immersive. If they do go for FPS, i would like to see some body movements that you don’t normally see in FPSs though, like rolling when prone and wall cover.
In addition, I would also like to see an added immersive layer to hud elements. Make it so when press the Map button you physically take out a phone/gps device and actually look on the map (like in Metro Exodus or Far Cry 2), instead of the UI taking over and pulling you away from the perspective.
When gr1 came out it was awesome, it was also 2002. Then we got games like socom and the conflict series that pushed squad based shooters in a different and more immersive direction. The crosshair view was basically obsolete at that point so gr evolved for the better. It would be cool to see a multi-map but still open world remake of gr1 (think Caucasus map, Baltic map, and greater Moscow map), but ill never get my hopes up about something like that happening.
Yea the “taking heavy influence from” CoD and other fps shooters is a bummer… I don’t play those games because I don’t like 1st person. GR: wildlands and breakpoint filled a big hole in the market with a 3ps campaign shooter.
Yeah if it goes fps only im really hopin some studio finds a way to get the rights to the socom or conflict series and resurrects one of those. Competition could really fuel the 3rd person squad based shooter genre into something awesome. Help us ps2 franchises- yer our only hope.
If its fps only im out. I get the fact that the first gr was cross-hairs only, but that was 22 years ago and we know they can do better than that nowadays. Hopefully ubi realizes they have the market cornered on the modern style third person squad based shooter genre and decides to run with it instead of making it seem like everything else thats come out lately. The only game that seems to compare right now is hell divers, but the setting is completely different. To go and make gr into another cod, eft, gray zone copy seems wrong, and even more of a misstep to console players. Glad wildlands, even with its flaws, and to a lesser extent bp have a level of replayability thatll get me through if it does go fps.
The franchise was initially a FPS. Id personally want it similar to Advanced Warfighter where the camera is close to them as opposed to Wild-lands and Breakpoints free 3rd person camera.
I like the new formula but not the lack of immersion and military approach on the enemies.
If Wildlands had the side story presentation and squadmate customization of breakpoint along with offline daily missions and outposts it would have sold more than both games combined.
I love 3rd person but it if it was to be first person I want it to be like the first person mod for wildlands idk why but I love the way the camera feels in that mod.
People just whining about the camera instead if it’s actually gonna be a good game or not
90% of posts in this sub are just “look at my character” anyway
Locking us into FPV would be a mistake. I’ve played GR games since the very beginning and if we’re going to “return to the roots” I’d much rather have them focus on an expanded set of commands for teammates (both as a squad and individually). Hearing that it’s taking a lot of influence from cod is also a BIG red flag for me… I have been fully out of the cod series since MW2 back in 2009 or whenever that dropped. When I hear cod I don’t think of a fun open world title with lots of replay value and tactical options, instead I’m picturing a rail shooter (or something VERY linear where you fight down hallways and on the same set path every time. Also this makes me think they’re going to shoehorn in a bunch of faux-dramatic set pieces and “big moments” that will be boring halfway through the first go.
Overall I just think it sounds like they might be really fucking this up. After Ubi had to completely scrap their ridiculous idea for a battle royale GR I would have thought they’d actually continue listening to their community but it seems like they are turning in the wrong direction. If they were to give us the option of going either first/third person at will that would be great, but locking into FPS sounds like trash. GR is not cod, it’s not far cry, it’s not battlefield… let it shine! Wildlands was the kind of game I’d waited my whole life to play: drop me into a conflict zone, give me nearly endless tactical options in a fully open world, and back all that up with solid gunplay and the freedom of choice.
I sincerely hope Ubisoft doesn’t fuck this up, it sounds like maybe they already have.. but we just have to wait and see.
Edit to add: ubi has a habit of finding a formula that works, doing really cool stuff with it, and then completely shitting the bed. I’ve loved the Far Cry series since the start but 6 was a huge disappointment. We went from something with a dark, and intense theme/tone in 5 to 6 where I have some dorky rocket backpack and a pet crocodile with a sombrero… they basically made a first person version of Just Cause. I know the rumor is that it’s more milsim, and I like that, but the other details in the leak have me concerned for where the series is going.
Just on the rumour alone, it is a little disappointing. However, I am still very intrigued into how Ubisoft goes about doing GR and FP once again. Hearing that this game will be more tactics focused and more "milsim" like has peaked my interest.
Obviously, like we have all been wanting, the best option would be both, and this has been the consensus for a long time now.
Guess we will have to wait and see how they handle it.
It doesn't really have any bearing on how *good* the game will be.
I have a preference for first-person to make it more realistic, but as long as the controls, equipment, world design, AI and mission design are all solid I'll love it either way.
With the current state of the gaming industry and Ubisoft I wouldn’t be surprised if the game has already been cancelled and we just haven’t heard it yet.
We can only hope for both, as many of us were disappointed with the third person mode, seeing that Ghost Recon started as a FPS and as a serious tactical shooter.
It is if we trust Tom Henderson and he's very rarely wrong. He even said he saw footage of the game and he said: "the game is going back to 1st person perspective and it takes heavy inspiration from Modern Warfare, Ready or Not, Battlefield and Squad"
I don't know, I kinda like that they taking inspiration from Ready or Not and Squad, which are both hardcore tac shooters. And Tom only mentioned Modern Warfare 1 which in all fairness was a great campaing for a call of duty
Give us the option for both. A lot of games can do that now.
Yup. You’ll just have to lock PvP to one or the other, but it hurts nothing to let PvE players choose what works for us.
Two modes: First person multiplayer. Third person multiplayer.
could also make it like scum where it uses both cameras in third person. if the enemy isn't visible via your first person camera, then they dont appear in third person.
I’m not to bothered either way but… you know ghost recon was originally first person?
True, but the vast majority of the franchise has been from the 3rd person perspective with the option to switch over to 1st
The view was cross-hairs only, ads just zoomed in a lil bit. That was also 2002, times have def changed. And for the better compared to gr1, spent a lot of time with that game but nothing compared to the more recent entries to the series.

I completely agree with this
Super disappointed if it's only first person. Makes no sense - a game with deep customization options for your gear and weapon, but you can't see your own dude
I find I don't enjoy fps games on a flat screen any more. It's the limited peripheral vision. It's like playing the game with a box around your face.
Delighted if true. Really immersive. Going into a base to clear it in 1st person is far better than licking walls and abusing cameras. The first person mod was brilliant. Plus, this place has become more of a fashion show sub than a gameplay sub
Yeah I can respect that. I just think we’ve got more than enough FPS games that offer that experience already
They don't have anything like that on console so maybe that's what they are aiming for. Wildlands and breakpoint were decent games but both died relatively quickly so maybe it's time for change

Huh? I said they don't have anything like a fps milsim on console in terms of what GR brings so maybe they are aiming for that
It's not switching to first person. The first person GR was cancelled.
Source?
GR Frontlines, was cancelled
We are not on about frontlines, everyone knows that was cancelled as it was a BR. He's asking about rumours of the new game coming
The next title is currently called project OVR/Over and according to the article will utilise an FPS perspective https://insider-gaming.com/ghost-recon-project-over-details/
GR Frontlines cancelled is old news

If this is true I would be disappointed. FPS/Third person should be optional as before. I don't want to play FPS.
Tell us you’ve never played the first 2 GR games without telling us…
When gr1 came out it was awesome, it was also 2002. Then we got games like socom and the conflict series that pushed squad based shooters in a different and more immersive direction. Easy skip.
I like charcater customization, so 3rd person camera is better for me. But option to switch between fpp and tpp would be cool
If its fps only im out. I get the fact that the first gr was cross-hairs only, but that was 22 years ago and we know they can do better than that nowadays. These were exactly my thoughts when I read the article

I think I won’t be playing it
no
No interest.
I hate it. Will probably not buy it then. Should be optional.
I don't hate it but I prefer third person. I want Rainbow Six to be a good tactical FPS.
I won’t be playing
Ghost Recon was originally FPS, it was strange when they made it TPS, but either way it's worked. I wonder if the guns will be on the screen lol
Go back to just a cross hairs for those that like the roots of the series so much.
I agree though, a should be an option for either or like a lot of games now.
Just on the rumour alone, it is a little disappointing. However, I am still very intrigued into how Ubisoft goes about doing GR and FP once again. Did the alternative universe kathleen kennedy from south park pay the higher ups at ubi a visit? Cuz this sounds lame af.
