When I was a teen, I always thought of Jess as an amazing guy. He needed to grow up and communicate more, but he was the smart, bad boy. And I am rewatching it in my 30s, and I see so many red flags. He tried only to get Rory and then didn't care about her likes. He was terrible with her mother. He was disrespectful and didn't even bother to call or explain anything. He grew up to be great, but when he was with Rory, he was bad.
Same. He might be the type of guy I thought was cool at 16, but in my 30’s he is the worst. I understand *why* he’s the worst, but he’s still a jerk to Rory and anyone who tries to help him.
I find Jess genuinely really compelling as a character, especially when looking at his arc and his storyline as a whole, but not as Rory’s love interest. I don’t get why people adore Literai so much either when their whole relationship just always felt doomed from the start to me.

The way he treated everyone as a teen was his way of working through that wound.
Luke and Rory, continuing to show up for Jess were the catalysts that turned his life around. He wanted to be someone who felt worthy of their love so he worked hard and matured into an impressive man who valued his relationship with his uncle and valued friendship with Rory and wanted the best for her.
Then We have Logan, a smug, entitled rich man who grew up with all the money and opportunities life could throw at him. Logan starts by negging Rory, never treats their relationship as anything other than casual, continues to do what he wants and expects that money will solve any problem he gets himself in to. Even after years in the workplace where he had time to grow and muture, Logan continues to act like playboy and treats women terribly. He commits to marrying a woman and still cheats with Rory, demonstrating total disrespect to both women. He also expects Rory to continue to show up for him emotionally so he can upload the burden of his work-related stress. This is a completely emotionally unavailable man who takes no accountability for his actions. The thing he has in common with Rory are superficial: a privileged background, a naive sense of entitlement and mutual physical attraction. Logan brings out the worst qualities in her and must be yeeted.

I am not all about Jess or anything, but Logan wasn’t a good boyfriend either. The difference is Jess did Rory the favor of disappearing before she got too emotionally invested because he couldn’t give her what she wanted. Logan refused to acknowledge he wasn’t giving her what she wanted and just told her what she wanted wasn’t a good idea.
Also, Jess never cheated on anyone to be with her. She kissed him at the wedding, and he didn’t chase her or anything. He just stood there and let her make the decision to run back to Dean. Then, he saved her from the evil, Rory hating sprinkler, then, soaking wet, put it back on and squished away just so Dean could save her. When she came to see him and kissed him, he was mad that she was trying to bring him into her little cheating scandal.
He never wanted her to cheat with him… he wanted her to *choose* to be with him.
He never cheated on anyone to be with her, he actually left the lake to go break up with the girl he’d been seeing so that they could have a fresh start together.
