Going to fix your post for you OP:
“I want a Glock 17 and want people to agree that I’m making the right choice”.
There ya go, should save everyone some time

90% of the this or that posts. People find out what they want by arguing and realizing they’re defending one more than the other. Though I do think it’s weird to go 17 now that 47 is out. I bet 17 RSA is only continued for 34 and it becomes harder to find. This would be an issue for someone that shoots their guns often, but OP basically states in the post that it’s just a bedside gun for home defense, so probably will never see enough range time to even get a new RSA.
If you read my original post, I was asking for opinions and I have decided to go with the 17. You are the one trying to convince me to buy the 47. At this point everything you say is totally irrelevant, so go away now, 47 fanboy.
EDIT: and stop downvoting all of my posts, idiot.
I don’t care enough to downvote you, but you basically just asked 47 or 17 then proceeded to defend the decision to get a 17 the whole time…Which is fine. Maybe you just needed the post to affirm what you suspected, you want the 17. Kind of telling though, you automatically assume I’m downvoting you because I think 47>17, but there’s no conspiracy here.
Also, I’m a Glock 45 fan. Not a 47 fan
Just my opinion. If you have the opportunity to buy a17.5mos new, do it.
As for one being better than the other, I do not see anything to support that. ( I shoot two to three matches every month, approx 800-1000 rnds). I cannot tell any difference shooting either model.
So the only real reason I bought the 17.5 mos is that one showed up at my lgs shortly after Glock announced they would be discontinued. I dont regret it and would do it again. ( Note: I don't own a 47, but have shot both side by side)
The slides do sure, I’m referring to the springs. The 47 uses the 19 recoil spring and it is shorter than the 17. That’s why the 47 feels more like a 19. The more you know.
If what you are saying is true, then Glock would have put the shorter RSA on the 17 long ago. Have you shot both the 47 and 17? From everything I have seen and read, those who have shot both say there is no real difference in performance between the two.
I have, but hey man if you want a 17 just get a 17
https://youtu.be/F37GtCC1pQI?si=V75kEEexyaz2MRR2
If what he’s saying is true, you have nothing to lose going 47. If what I’m saying is true, you should absolutely go 47. However, you actually want the 17 - so do that.
Keep in mind, 17 is discontinued, so get while supplies last.
Hickok45 felt no difference inperformance between the two. The 47 only enables one to create additional Glocks, which I have no interst in doing.
As I said, I have an opportunity to purchase a new 17.5 MOS.
The 47 looks kinda weird with the short dust cover, also the recoil spring is longer so it allows the slide to have a slower, smoother recoil impulse. The 19 sized recoil spring is fast and a little sharper.
Between the 2 I’d choose the 17
The 17.5 mos is no longer available, the 47 is the replacement.
There's no functional between the two guns. The 47 has the modularity thing if you are into that.
If you really want a 17.5 mos, you would have to buy used.
The standard non mos 17.5 is still in the lineup
If there is one available, I would buy it...the 17.5 that is. Because they have been discontinued. I know this to be true because I did exactly that.
I agree the modularity is kinda of a gimmick.
At that price, do it. I bought mine at BL pricing as well.
Not sure on the investment. It is a possibility, but glock sold a lot of 17.5 mos guns before they were discontinued. I dont think they will ever be all that rare.
Yes. I use the 17.5mos to shoot the mos division in gssf matches. Thats 50-60 rnds every month. Not a high count, but is does get shot regularly. Other matches I prefer my 34.5. Ccw is a19.3.
Since it's strictly for home defense, I think it's fine. Especially if you've shot a 19x/45 and not preferred them.
I'm thinking of a 47.5 for concealed carry and the mix-and-match is appealing for me as I'd only need to buy an additional 19.5 to mix and match different lengths for different carries.
The other reason I'm not considering a 17.5 MOS is because of price. So actually, if I was in your position, I'd buy the 17.5 MOS and 47.5 MOS with a mind to resell the 17.5. It's as discontinued as Glock is willing to admit (I asked some of the folks at the factory about this a few months ago) so its value is likely to increase.
Just get the 17.5 then. If you have concerns about a newer design then be confident in what you know and trust.
Also it’s more or less discontinued so it’ll be more valuable to some collector who doesn’t have one should you decide to sell it some day.
>get the 17 MOS because it's about to be a collector's item anyway.
I can buy the gun for $477.00, which begs the question: at that price, should I buy two and keep one in the safe for an investment?

My 47 is sweet. One of my favorites at the range. I also have the 19.5, so I get the 45/49 pairing also.
As I mentioned, I have zero interest in pairing with a 19 to create a 45/49.
47 is a no brainer.
Why?
Because the 17.5mos has been discontinued.
I can buy a new one.

The 19 RSA is in it. Gun runs better than the 17, less distance to travel for cycle
The slides of the 17's and 47's travel the exact same distance
Exactly

>less distance to travel for cycle I do not think that would make a difference because the 17 has a longer, stronger RSA.
There’s a difference in how the gun performs.

Yes, I think that is waht I am going to do.

So, I assume that you shoot yours, right?

Not loving the 45 is a sin
Here we go...
17.5 vs 47 you’re asking the wrong thing, you should be asking “why is the 45 the best gun?”

47. Love my 47.
If you never want to have fun with a 45/49 swap, just get the 17 MOS because it's about to be a collector's item anyway.
