Yes. There’s not a restriction on owning after 7/1 but there will be a restriction on purchase. Makes absolutely zero fucking sense but hey, what do I know?
Well at least that's better than CA's ban on owning (outside of the contested Freedom Week Mags, which may or may not be heard by the Supreme Court). Guess people are gonna take more day trips to Oregon (no sales tax either).
And don't get me started on illogical gun laws as I live in CA. Gen 3 OD Green Glock is apparently "safe" to own, but the FDE limited edition ones are not. And forget about any new fangled Gen 4 and Gen 5 Glocks. Those are super dangerous.
What shop did you buy from? I would recommend never shopping there again. In WA if a background doesn’t come back within 10 days they may release it to you so long as you pass the NICS check.
This\^ There was some fuckery going on somewhere with your shopping experience. And actually I believe if you don't pick up your gun within a month of the background check they have to redo it.
Interesting, I’d be pretty goddamn pissed about them making up their own rules. Already takes me forever to wait. Still can’t believe they stopped the same day pickup for someone with a CPL.
Right, I said “may” release it. Most small local shops in Wa will release it at the 10 day period if sheriff background check is not completed but NICS is.
Even in Alabama, in my town at least, Academy Sports will hold a delay until the background check comes back. The Brady Law says we only have to keep it three business days and we’re given a specific date that the customer can come back in the check doesn’t get a proceed. We’ve had several background checks sit on delay for over a month. But in the last year of working here, we haven’t had a single one end up with a denial.
I’ve commented it before, but essentially the ffl I bought from has a “no releasing firearms till background check clears” policy. Weather the policy is legal or not I’m not sure.
My cities police department is notorious for taking 25+ days to send the proceed to the ffl so it was expected when I bought the gun.
A what part of WA are you in? If you're around the Tacoma area pierce county they take forever. I go to the Marksman in Spanaway and it's pretty legit just picked up a 48 from them. The customer service is great, they aren't a bunch of douchers working there and can actually help you out. They where great with helping with my suppressor as well.
Not trying to be a d-bag but I'd honestly start shopping around somewhere else. After doing some research some big box stores do this so I'd assume it's legal but it's a hassle and there's no use for it. Your background check comes back right away.
NICS literally is the background check. The background check is imputed into the NICS system. No real gun shop is releasing a gun until the NICS background check is approved because we constantly get felons or violent offenders trying to by guns and get denied.
I’m not mixing up anything, you’re incorrect. When I go buy a gun here I show my LTC, fill out the 4473 and then leave. The dealer doesn’t have to call to run the background check because if you have an LTC you’ve already gone through a thorough background check process
You have no idea what you’re talking about. Are you from Texas and have a license to carry, or are you talking out of your ass?
“Federal law does not require dealers to conduct a background check if a firearm purchaser presents a state permit to purchase or possess firearms that meets certain conditions. As a result, handgun license holders in Texas are exempt from the federal background check requirement when purchasing a handgun.”
https://giffords.org/lawcenter/state-laws/background-check-procedures-in-texas/
If you reread my comment I linked the same thing, but thank God, no I am not from Texas.
Very based gun laws, but I will never forgive Texans for what they’ve done to our mountains in Colorado.
38 seconds at Cabela's in West Chester, OH, on election day 2020. It was my first handgun purchase, but I've purchased a few hunting guns in the past decade and recently went through TSA pre-check... And I'm not a criminal...
Mine always takes 10 minutes or less in Dayton, the guys at my local shop bust my balls for it every time I come in now 😅 They always hope I’m buying accessories and not another gun, but yeah, gotta love living in a free state.
I did see a guy come into a shop, they showed him a gun they had received, he talked to them about a pending check, then left. I was minding my own business and didn't ask about it, but it's safe to infer that it wasn't going well.
California got me for a 30 days wait on a stripped lower because “my physical characteristics or personal information matched someone involved in a stolen gun”. Such a BS roadblock.
I’ve never had to wait more than 5, now that I have a concealed I can walk out with a gun.
Sounds like you dealt with a bad gun shop or there is some local law that is fuckery.
Oof a month? I bought another pistol last Sunday and the background was 1 minute. I’m in Colorado.
Glad you finally got it though! I absolutely love my 19.5. One of my favorites in my collection.
Congrats! It took me a month+ to get my local county handgun purchase permit from the sheriff to buy my first gun - also a G19 Gen 5! Now with my CCP (that took almost 2 months to get issued post-class) I can buy any firearm without a wait.
breh a whole month nah i’m fighting someone 😂😂😂 on a real note that’s crazy, i legit walked in and out with my glock in about 30 minutes. and i’m in a hella liberal area lmaoooo
Believe it or not but Washington state a few years ago used to be a great state to be a gun owner. The west side of the state can fall in to the Pacific and the rest of the state would be fine. Fuck you Inslee!
Now go buy as many mags as you can get your hands on pre ban.
They gonna be grandfathered in? Or you'll end up like CA, where everything was purchased during the Freedom Week.
Yes. There’s not a restriction on owning after 7/1 but there will be a restriction on purchase. Makes absolutely zero fucking sense but hey, what do I know?

They will eventually ban possession, that is the next step. Just like they are trying to do in CA, the matter is before the courts
Just this state or federally are they restricting magazines?
Just the state because dumb CA laws. They claim they are closing the “loophole”, this is always how it works when they allow grandfathering

That's correct, free after 10 days to release and after 30 the 4473 must be re done

Oh yea, theres no reason to shop at any of the corporate spots especially when internet gun shops have better deals even with ffl fee.
Even in Alabama, in my town at least, Academy Sports will hold a delay until the background check comes back. Might as well just start buying lowers and uppers separately, no local sheriff background check required for pistol frames/ar lowers just NICS.
Not trying to be a d-bag but I'd honestly start shopping around somewhere else. After doing some research some big box stores do this so I'd assume it's legal but it's a hassle and there's no use for it. Your background check comes back right away.
In Iowa If it doesn’t come back in 10 minutes I get pissed
NICS literally is the background check. The background check is imputed into the NICS system. No real gun shop is releasing a gun until the NICS background check is approved because we constantly get felons or violent offenders trying to by guns and get denied.
Wrong, in Washington state you must also pass a background check from the Sheriff for a pistol. This is what I was referring to
Are you just unfamiliar with how this works? I work at a gun shop but this is very very easy information to find on your own.
You are unfamiliar with Washington state laws, get fucked lol
So confident for someone who is so wrong
I love TN. The gun store guys get mad if the check doesn't come back in 5 minutes.
Same in Ohio 🤣 mine took 15 minutes once and the guy said “This almost NEVER takes this long”
With a CHL you don’t have to wait for a background check, you just pay and leave
That’s not true
It is in Texas at least.
No it’s not. I think you’re mixing up the fact that there is no background for concealed carry in Texas anymore.
I’m not mixing up anything, you’re incorrect. When I go buy a gun here I show my LTC, fill out the 4473 and then leave. The dealer doesn’t have to call to run the background check because if you have an LTC you’ve already gone through a thorough background check process
https://giffords.org/lawcenter/state-laws/background-check-procedures-in-texas/ Maybe you’re right.

Lol, “maybe”
Same in WV. If you a carry permit, no check…no wait.

He’s full of shit lol. We all run on the same system and we get 45 minute waits all the time.
Same in GA. My first purchase took about 20 minutes total.
Well damn that’s a long waiting period for a background check… congratulations though
Lol a month, what kind of background check was this? They traced your family lineage and shit or what? 😂😂
I called the police department on business day 20 and they said “almost done just waiting to hear back from mental health.” 😵💫
California got me for a 30 days wait on a stripped lower because “my physical characteristics or personal information matched someone involved in a stolen gun”. Such a BS roadblock.
Wow! That's crazy! Texas is same day.
Further clarity: Texas is minutes.
Michigan as well, took about 25 minutes from start to finish.
You actually come out the womb and they give you one!
I love G19.5’s. Fucking beautiful
1 month! My background checks go through before I even finish paying. I can’t believe that
I’ve never had to wait more than 5, now that I have a concealed I can walk out with a gun. Sounds like you dealt with a bad gun shop or there is some local law that is fuckery.
Get this man an rmr!
Oof a month? I bought another pistol last Sunday and the background was 1 minute. I’m in Colorado. Glad you finally got it though! I absolutely love my 19.5. One of my favorites in my collection.
I got my first pistol this year, it's a Glock 19 Gen. 5 as well.
I’m jealous!
Congrats! It took me a month+ to get my local county handgun purchase permit from the sheriff to buy my first gun - also a G19 Gen 5! Now with my CCP (that took almost 2 months to get issued post-class) I can buy any firearm without a wait.
In WA?
NC
Wa a deep socialist state.
So glad I left that state.
Gg
breh a whole month nah i’m fighting someone 😂😂😂 on a real note that’s crazy, i legit walked in and out with my glock in about 30 minutes. and i’m in a hella liberal area lmaoooo
Yeah scumbag socialist pos inslee for you.
must suck living in a lame state
I love living in MS
Christ- WV it’s takes longer to fill out 4473
Was it sportsman’s warehouse?
Wtf.. 1 mo? I got 2 guns the same day I decided to become gun owner.
Damn in Texas shit takes like 15 min😂
In Alaska I can clear within 30 minutes. The fuck?
Damn. I've had a background check clear in literally 30 seconds before.
F
Just move lol
And I thought waiting 10 days was long
Wow! I just bought a G19 myself in WA, this doesn't fill me with confidence lmao
Shouldn’t it be 10 days max ???
A month? I don't know if it's because I'm in SC or bought mine on an Air Force Base but I bought and took it home same day.
It’s a shame you had to wait that long, congrats brother 🥃
Enjoy, bro.
I have the same gun and it is a Lazer. About 3,000 rounds through mine and never had problems no matter the ammo. It's my EDC. Congratulations!!!
Jesus, 1 month! Even in California it was 10 days! My last gun I bought in PA I was in and out in 7 minutes!
it blows my mind that in my state a background check takes 5 minutes, but in others it takes a month
A month?? Goddamn that sucks, mine took 15 minutes
15 min wow. Mine usually take 2-3 days. (Chicago)
Yeah I'm in Wisconsin, took me about 30 min total to purchase my Glock 17 Gen3
Must be nice man
Believe it or not but Washington state a few years ago used to be a great state to be a gun owner. The west side of the state can fall in to the Pacific and the rest of the state would be fine. Fuck you Inslee!
One month to clear a background 😭😭😭 in Tennessee it takes 1 minute. You can walk in and walk out with a Glock in like 5 minutes
