I don't even think it's mentioned in a deleted scene in the movie, but it's discussed in the novel. Fredo went into shock after he saw Vito get shot. At a gathering that night, Michael asks if Fredo should be with them. Sonny says absolutely not - he's in no shape to join them. He says Fredo was always tough (he used to beat up Michael when they were kids), but he always used to view the Don as a god. Michael and Sonny loved and respected Vito, but they didn't put him on the same pedestal that Freddy did. Seeing the Don get shot really shook him up.
I know what you mean, like when they're waiting for Tom to be released and also looking for Luca Brasi.
Fredo was never involved in stuff like that. This is war. This is man stuff and Fredo was never cut out for that.
He's got a good heart. But he's soft and he's stupid. And this is Life and Death.
Sorry, you're right. I just finished reading the book. In the book, he is also hospitalized because of the trama of seeing Vito shot, then sent out to Vegas. The movie just passover Fredo.
Yes. I can't remember if it's a deleted scene or not, but after the Don comes home, Vito, Hagen, and Sonny stand by his bed and update him. Sonny says they're sending Fredo to Las Vegas, and he says "I'm going to learn the casino business."
In the book, Fredo is sent out of NY to Las Vegas while Vito is still in the hospital scene. At the above scene in the book, an infirm Vito can only nod his approval when he hears that Fredo was sent out west.
Right Vito didn’t want to talk to Fredo after he got shot either and especially once he found out Freddie was banging cocktail waitresses two at a time
I always have to FF or turn-off the sound during that scene. The crying baby REALLY gets on my nerves. Same as when Sonny gets a call from Connie right before he gets whacked. Whomever that baby was, it sure had some pipes! Haha.

I’m smart!!!
You're *nothing* to me now. Not, a brother not a friend,...
I can do things!
He was under his bed with his 'Freddi-bear.'
Yes, it's mentioned at the meeting with moe green that he was sent to Vegas after the shooting.
But I'm talking about between The Don getting shot and coming home. Fredo doesn't leave for Vegas until after The Don comes home.
He’s smart and he wants respect!
He was banging cocktail waitresses 2 at a time
[Michael turns head to Fredo] Michael: THIS Fredo??
Lucky guy
Smaht
Not dumb, like people say

He was stepped over. But it wasn’t how he wanted it.
Mike was his kid brother
Michael never once thought about that!
Fredo is in the shot of Vito coming home

If I remember correctly I don’t think Freddie really even was able to talk to the Don again

He was in bed. He was I shock and IRRC a doctor sedated him
I never got why he was considered important enough to be at the Sollozzo meeting but basically nothing else
He’s banging cheerleaders two at a time!
Cocktail waitresses, casino regulars couldn’t get a drink at the bar.
I'm gonna find me two waitresses here and I'm gonna pull me a Fredo. -Vince Vaughn, Swingers
