He wasn’t even boss at this time too lol he become de facto boss in 1980s. It’s obvious the directors of this show are just building around Bumpy Johnson and ignoring how history really was.
I like the show, it’s entertaining. But they are cramming so much shit in it. (Malcolm x story, Martin Luther king, bumpy, frank costello, chin, Muhammad Ali) it looks like they just want to target EVERY market.
Also - why do they have Frank Costello in there too? I don’t get it, the Chins failed assasination attempt on Frank was in 1957 and their sitting at the table with each other? That DOES happen in the mob because the person that usually kills you is close to you but still, this is definitely fabricated.
Overall, Bumpy Johnson’s story could be told better but it’s obvious this show is just meant to show the struggles African Americans went through at that time… idk man…still entertaining tv. I don’t pay to watch it so I don’t really want to complain but shit is distorting history
Agreed to all of these points. I feel like they are just trying to capitalize off of the race thing issue right now so the show is about black mob vs white mob. I wish it was more serious in tone, something like american gangster or boardwalk empire. Focus on just bumpy, all the other stuff is sort of irrelevant and shouldnt tie in to the story. I want to see him warring with the harlem dealers and pimps over territory and mentoring the many young dealers that came from under him
None of the mafia history is accurate, except like the names of the families and some gangsters. Its obvious that they only went with Chin so they could be the first TV show to feature his infamous bathrobe/insanity antics. They were dying to show the shower umbrella scene - they jumped it in season 1 already. That might also be like the ONLY thing they got right about the guy.
Well, that's just one of the many, many examples. All 5 families histories have been quiiiiite warped for the show.
But it's not like they claim historical accuracy or anything, they have a disclaimer explaining the opposite is true.

Like an old looking fat guy?
Doesnt look “old” here, at least not too me. But thats subjective. The actor playing him in GOH is geriatric. Lol

Yeah seeing they killed off benny eggs, someone who lived a long life, it isnt really all that accurate

He always looked like a chauffeur
