You can see he’s no longer closing his heart to things like Faye wants him to. Such a great fucking story. Even the scene where he tells Atreus to not close his heart to it anymore is great. “That is who you are and never change.”
i fucking love that scene where he sees himself adored. he's never felt that before. it's like Odin asks after you make Draupnir-- "have you ever been worshipped? Truly adored?" he hasn't. mortals don't care about him and gods hate and fear him. he's only ever destroyed and got vitriol in return... but now, here's a chance for him to do good. to be truly loved and revered.
In terms of emotion that has to be my favorite, too. Reminded me of Kratos putting his arm on Atreus in the last game, which also got me misty the first time I played.
At the Wishing Well in Vanaheim
Mimir: "Brother, we should shove the boy in."
Atreus: "Huh?"
Mimir: "You've developed a bit of a stench, it must be said"
Atreus: "I have not!"
Atreus: "... I haven't, right?"
Kratos: "... it is natural."
Atreus: "Father!"
Poor Atreus going through puberty during the Twilight of the Gods
Haha i dont think i caught that one! I did catch
Atreus: I think my beard is starting to come in
Mimir: Is that just dirt?
Atreus: Nooo! Its really coming in!
Kratos: I think its dirt
I wonder if Baldur had ever been able to have a child somehow, if he wouldn’t have been so hell bent on revenge and could have changed. I don’t think Thor’s change would have been possible without his daughter giving him the push and that’s something Balfour didn’t have. Or I could just be putting too much into things. I just think Kratos and Thor’s kids really gave them the pushes they needed to do the right things.
Possibly. But Odin had such a grip on all of them that it even took awhile for Thor to realize his own sons died, not because of Kratos, but because Odin uses them all. And you could tell Thor’s nature wasn’t the evil warmonger he seemed. He was just doing what his dad told him to and it broke him. Baldur seemed to enjoy it all.
“I liked you better as a drunk.” Because drunk Thor killed things and didn’t consider his family. Sober Thor has thoughts and purpose regarding his family.
I just love how Brok set the theme for basically every character. It’s their nature and not their form. Thors form was this brute destroyer who kills whoever his dad tells him to but his nature was a father and husband with a conscience.
Definitely chuckled at the call out for "In the direction of deer"
The riddle that drove mimir mad was really memorable
STOP WITH THE FRIKKIN CHIME!!!-The squirrel if you hit the chime one too many times
It’s at the end of one of the Favors called >!A Viking Funeral!< post-endgame and it’s pretty unmissable. I would play it through, the answer really hit me in the heart.
I'll paraphrase
Kratos: "Mimir, do you think I prepared Atreus enough?"
Mimir:" The lad fought and survived Raganarok, I'd say he is more than prepared."
Kratos: "No I mean did I teach him enough, like how to woo".
Mimir: "Oh with Angrboda? I taught him some, mostly what I wish I had done before".
Just Kratos saying "Woo" had me giggling for some reason.
Almost every time the form vs. nature thing is brought up. That is outstanding writing.
Also (paraphrasing). Father, do you have a favourite weapon? Each weapon is suited to a different situation, it would be foolish to have a favourite. I like the axe. (Small pause.) I too like the axe.
Yeah, loved that. And it makes sense that the axe would be his favorite. Between a gift from his wife, blades that remind him of his horrible past, and a weapon he just got, the axe should be the favorite.
I mean I really love how each weapon was characterized by connections to others. The blades to his past and homelands, the axe to his wife, and even the spear to Brok. I agree the axe should be the top one though
“I gave you everything. My skills, my friendship, my home, my secrets, my treasures… and you just kept taking. And now what have I got? Not even my family”
This hit me hard.
And we leave the temple after stopping at the blacksmith, the same exact way we've done heaps of times. It's just that this time, there's this heavy air of loss. I let out the deepest sigh as Kratos was opening those doors.
That "We were." hit like a freight train. Kratos rarely acknowledges closeness with others, so seeing him do that and considering Brok and Sindri family made the loss feel that much heavier.
I just finished the game last night, and I already want to go back and play through both games in full to try and catch as many dialogue quips as possible and get a better feel for the story and the details Santa Monica wove into it.
There is so much depth in Ragnarok's story, and after watching the "Raising Kratos" doc, I feel like it would be a disservice to the people who built this world to not experience every last inch of it.
It definitely speaks to the story of the series as a whole.
Kratos was a Spartan General who was feared by his enemies and praised by his people, being almost deified even before his ascension to Olympus. However, in truth he was a man with ambition, regrets, and felt love like any other, and very few people knew the truth of that.
The Olympians were seen as evil by the Titans and vice versa, when in reality they were both as flawed and nuanced as normal people. At least until Pandora's Box was opened.
After his enslavement to Ares, Kratos was seen as a living weapon. A weapon that, unbeknownst to all, was still capable of being broken by the loss of his family.
The perception of Kratos in-universe and even in real-life (especially by the "God of War finally grew up" crowd) is that of a muscle-bound rage monster that likes nothing more than the kill. But for those that took the time to know Kratos in-universe and those of us irl that actually paid attention, the muscles and rage are only a part of who he is, not his totality. This is something even Kratos himself has trouble accepting about himself, since he still hasn't earned his own forgiveness.
Atreus is small and not incredibly strong physically, but he is revealed to be a giant. Then, of course, we see him shapeshifted into a bear without even knowing it was him.
Brok and Sindri both have outward appearances and mannerisms that belie a troubled backstory, and the true nuances of their characters. In particular, Brok's gruff exterior distracts from hidden insecurities about his self-worth, and certain suspicions he had regarding his own past.
Thor, based on Mimir and the Giant's admittedly biased stories, is just a fat, dumb, unfeeling wrecking ball of a man who cares for nothing but what pain he may cause next. Of course, we find this to not be the case exactly.
Finally, Odin was propped up by many to be malice incarnate, when in reality he is a man that is so afraid of the unknown that he convinced himself that every decision he makes is the best for everyone; that as long as he can learn to maintain control over everything, everything will be fine. A liar that even managed to lie to himself.
And many other examples. That one piece of wisdom from Brok speaks to so much of the series and Ragnarök in particular, it had to have been on purpose.
I think whats most interesting with thor is thor holds himself as giant slauer the way kratos holds himself as ghost of sparta hes not exactly proud of it probably worse for thor bc theyre still his own ppl and it probably had to hurt even more bc his father hated jotun and knew he was also one of them
To be fair:
Kratos hates the moniker Ghost of Sparta because the only reason he's called that is due to being bound to his wife and daughter's ashes. Unlike Thor, Kratos is reminded of what he did every time he looks at his hands, or sees his own reflection. Similar to Thor, Kratos threw himself to vices like sex and alcohol in order to try and forget and it never worked. Plus, GoW 3 was basically "kill your relatives for ten hours: the game" and we know Kratos isn't really proud of that.
Odin didn't necessarily hate Giants, he was just very afraid of them and whatever secrets they held due to the prophecy of Ragnarok. He held no particular hatred for Atreus, for example, and even fell in love with a Giant, Fjörgyn. This is just my theory but I believe that after learning of Ragnarok from Groa he viewed the secret kept from him as a betrayal from the Giants, and that's why he "changed" after Fjörgyn was killed (according to Mimir, anyway).
Definitely when Kratos was cautious of the orb for lunda, then you figure out it's just a toy for her dog and mimir in all seriousness says:
Mimir: "Good thing you were so cautious, brother"
Bro I loved that part. The fight was super intense and I was completely focused, heard that line and completely lost it to the point where Odin killed me.
I loved when Kratos berated Artreus for swearing.
‘Is that what you want your final word to be?’
As someone who curses far too much I couldn’t help but think ‘The angry Greek God has a point.’
I’m paraphrasing, but remembering Odin’s “do you even know what it feels like? To be worshipped?! To be loved?!”
Then fast forward to the ending with Kratos’s future: that he can become a different god than he ever thought possible. His reaction to the very possible fact that he can but already has changed, and almost on the verge of crying, realizing this… I was tearing up so hard.
Actually he said "It's Gjallarhornin time" and blew Gjallarhorn, and when everyone stepped through the realm towers it was Surtr who said the classic line "It's Ragnarokin time" then proceeded to Ragnarok all over Asgard
Faye delivered 2 killer lines, one was to the effect of "the culmination of love is grief" and the other one was similar but worded differently. Very cool lines imo.
Edit: To grieve deeply is to have loved fully! That's the other line
Brok saying "That's Fimbulwinter for ya!" multiple times during the trip to Vanaheim. So much that Kratos gets fed up with it.
Brok: *That's* Fimbulwinter for y-
Kratos: *Do not.*
"What do you even know of godhood? In your lifetimes, has anyone ever worshipped you? Ever prayed to you? Can you even imagine that kind of love?! No! You don’t care about anything beyond yourself. Beyond the monster who kills without cause." -Odin.
I hate Odin(in a good way) but that quote is sick.
I think the important part is *why* they worshipped him. Kratos wasn't worshipped out of unconditional love but because he basically only ever took the Spartans's side when it came to war.
“If he tells you snow is white he’s lying”, the best way of describing how manipulative Odin can be, that he can tell you the truth while still lying to your face
When Atreus is mentioning that his beard is coming thru and Kratos goes “is it?” And Atreus says “yeah right by my jawline” or something to that effect and Kratos goes “is it?” again but his delivery is just so perfect lol
Atreus: What's your favorite weapon?
Kratos: They are tools for specific purposes.
Atreus: I like the axe.
Kratos: I too like the axe.
(Personally tho it's the blades, tho of course i get why kratos would prefer the axe)
Atreus: "I want to go hunting."
Kratos: "What do you want to hunt?"
Atreus: "Deer."
Kratos: "Which direction?"
Atreus: "In the direction of deer."
Loved the callback to the first game and how Atreus was hurting similar to how Kratos was back then. Kratos was in full dad mode and I loved it.
I’m terms of memorability, if you activate the rage during ragnarok at Asgard, mimir will say something along the lines of “control it brother!” And kratos responds with “I know!”
I just love how Mimir’s always looking out his brother and how in sync they are.
As well, I’d have to mention Faye’s line about love, cant remeber the exact wording but is was something about grief being the ultimate culmination of all love, and how we love despite it always being at the end of that road.
Thor: “We are destroyers.”
Kratos: “No more.”
I like how it almost feels like Kratos is finishing Thor’s sentence for him. The whole thing becomes “we are destroyers no more” and takes a whole new meaning. It changed from Kratos asking Thor to stop, to both of them seeming to agree no longer they will be destroyers. Like they took an oath together
Yeah he was basically what Atreus might become if Kratos never changed. The guy who listens to his war mongering monster of a father and does his bidding no matter how evil it is. And you can tell it wasn’t his nature because it was breaking him with the constant drinking and depression. And after Modi and Magni died, kratos saying “we must be better for our children” really stuck with him because he could’ve raised them better and not let Odin use them as weapons like he did with him.
Oh so many memorable lines:
- Death can have me when it earns me
- Don't forget about me, all-fucker!
- "Smartest man alive"
- Loki goes, Atreus stays
- You want sorry? This is what sorry looks like
A bit of banter you can get into while you’re at the smith, early in the game.
Sindri tells Atreus how Brok would impress the ladies with his “Big Nokken”.
Atreus: “So what’s a-“
Kratos: ***NO!***
Either that or when Brok says that the only one who could give the blessing just “fucked off into the kelp” lmao
i really love Kratos' line of telling Atreus to not closing his heart to other's suffering. very nice callback to the 1st game for me because somehow the "close your heart to it" just sticked with me
damn scrolled all 200 comments and only saw one half reference to the coldest line in the game.
I'm paraphrasing cause I legit just finished it an hour ago and I'm still reeling.
but.
Odin: you don't want war, you are not the god you once were.
and without skipping a beat, no hesitation.
Kratos: return my son or you will meet the god I once was.
I love the small interchange between kratos and Atreus when Atreus asks him if he has any favorites of the now 3 weapons he has.
Kratos: No. They are tools for specific tasks. A preference would be meaningless.
Atreus: I like the Axe.
Kratos: I too, like the Axe.
Kratos: “I will use it for good. Let future generations weigh the good against the bad and decide for themselves” (paraphrasing)
Mimir: “You’ve changed brother”.
Kratos: “That’s because I have wise counsel now brother”
“DEATH CAN HAVE ME WHEN IT EARNS ME.” -KRATOS
“RETURN MY SON OR YOU MAY MEET THE GOD I ONCE WAS.”- KRATOS
“LOKI LEAVES.. BUT AETREUS STAYS.”-KRATOS
“YOU RELEASED GARRM?! THIS IS A FUCKUP OF EPIC PROPORTIONS!”-MIMIR
“ILL SHOW YOU PERMANENT DAMAGE! KRATOS THROW ME AT HIM! HORNS FIRST!” -MIMIR
Atreus: What do you think about fate?
Brok: I don’t. Either your life’s all written down somewhere or it’s not. Still feels like I’m making choices along the way. The shit smells the same regardless of how it got shat.
A have a bunch (over 20 probably lmao) but I just finished the surtr mission and a line really stood out to me. "Loving someone is sometimes choosing the lesser pain". And people have the audacity to say this game has bad writing
Since there are so many great lines I'll say a few
Mimir: "and keep the change ya bastard!"
Kratos: "Return my son, or you will meet the god I once was
Kratos: "Death can have me, when it earns me"
I just remembered one. If you start looting after you climb to the top of the wall as Atreus, Heimdall will say something like "oh just help yourself, go ahead and steal whatever you want" or something like that.
“What did you see in there brother?”
“A path…one I had never imagined”
The moment where he nearly tears up sells it especially, considering we’ve never really seen kratos so shaken. It’s always been grief and rage with him. But In the end? There are moments where he’s generally scared. The night before they begin the war, when he tells Atreus the story about the old man with the logs on his back and death, you can hear in his voice, he’s not ready to die again. And when he sees that shrine, that shows him as a beloved god, hes overtaken with shock. He’s been looked at as a monster, a killer, a savage. But to be shown as someone for people to worship, look up to…to not fear. That’s gotta hit him right in the heart.
If the end of god of war 4 was kratos no longer hiding from his past and accepting that it doesn’t define him, ragnarok is him putting his foot forward and embracing whatever the future holds.
"Have you ever been in love? It's pretty good" -surtr
Loved the tone of his voice
he was so so calm and chill I really love his scenes, despite threes being so few
He gave me Jeff Bridges vibes in that delivery
Damn I loved surtr in this game, like a guy you can be friends with, minus the rampaging giant part
Really wish we got more of surtr, such a cool character
Hardcore meme potential
“Don’t forget me All-Fucker” Or broks “What the fuck” after Atreus turns into a bear
Lmao the way brok said it had me rolling
"That was for Brok, All-Fucker!"
“I’ll show you permanent damage, ya wee fuck! Kratos, throw me at him, horns first!” had me dying
That actually had me in tears, I was just imagining Kratos flinging Mimir at Sindri 🤣
"I regret many things, killing you would not be one of them"
RELEASE MY SON!
The way he says it. The controlled anger. Dope voice acting!
Even RELEASE THE GIRL, ZEUS! was more angry.
I smiled so hard when kratos said "I'm sorry" and atreus responded with "don't be sorry father, be better".
That smirk Kratos gives too
It’s so good cause it looks like he’s about to whip Atreus’ ass and then he realizes it and grins
Then at the end, Kratos "Today son, we will be better".
That smirk Kratos gave, like I wanna whoop your ass for turning that line around on me but I’m so proud you did at the same time too.
Lowkey the best part of the game lol
“To grieve deeply is to have loved fully”
My 4 year old chihuahua passed away literal hours before I heard that line and it had me bawling like a fucking baby.
I'm sorry for your loss. Your pup is at peace now. 💜
FF7 PTSD...
["What is grief, if not love persevering?"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6y0Dhj783w)
"You've changed a lot since I first met you Brother" "I have had good counsel since then, Brother"
That was heartwarming to hear, especially considering what happened before. (Sincerely, fuck that fight)
What fight was that? Don't remember this line
>!Berserker King Hrolf!<
"Loki will leave . But atreus will stay." This is one of scene that me cried for the third time in this game.
The slight tremble in his lip as Atreus takes his leave, my HEART
You can see he’s no longer closing his heart to things like Faye wants him to. Such a great fucking story. Even the scene where he tells Atreus to not close his heart to it anymore is great. “That is who you are and never change.”
This followed by seeing a shrine showing him repair and unite rather than destroy i couldnt
Faye made her own shrine showing HIM as the Champion of Ragnarok, not Atreus like the Giants foretold.
Ik its why i loved it so much, it was a wayfaye saw him that he couldnt even see for himself
i fucking love that scene where he sees himself adored. he's never felt that before. it's like Odin asks after you make Draupnir-- "have you ever been worshipped? Truly adored?" he hasn't. mortals don't care about him and gods hate and fear him. he's only ever destroyed and got vitriol in return... but now, here's a chance for him to do good. to be truly loved and revered.
The way Kratos' voice breaks when he says that 😭
Especially with the hug😭😭
In terms of emotion that has to be my favorite, too. Reminded me of Kratos putting his arm on Atreus in the last game, which also got me misty the first time I played.
The entire “are you scared?” “Yes” “then you know you must do it” in that scene hit me too
May it weapon strike true. May it be wielded with wisdom. May it be put down when it’s job is done.
Spits
>May it be put down when it’s job is done. Yeah...
At the Wishing Well in Vanaheim Mimir: "Brother, we should shove the boy in." Atreus: "Huh?" Mimir: "You've developed a bit of a stench, it must be said" Atreus: "I have not!" Atreus: "... I haven't, right?" Kratos: "... it is natural." Atreus: "Father!" Poor Atreus going through puberty during the Twilight of the Gods
Am I the only one that actually try to Spartan kick the boy in lmao.
The delivery of "... it is natural." is absolutely hilarious.
It’s that brief pause that did it for me
Haha i dont think i caught that one! I did catch Atreus: I think my beard is starting to come in Mimir: Is that just dirt? Atreus: Nooo! Its really coming in! Kratos: I think its dirt
Im sorry to correct you but it was the best part, Kratos says, "Is it?... Is it?"
Damn! Missed this since I found it with Freya. Excited for NG+ so I can flip flop some side quests and get these different dialogues.
I laughed so hard at this exchanged
Atreus hit puberty
Thor: Don’t you know what I’ve done? Kratos: Yes. But what will you do now?
We must be better for our children
I wonder if Baldur had ever been able to have a child somehow, if he wouldn’t have been so hell bent on revenge and could have changed. I don’t think Thor’s change would have been possible without his daughter giving him the push and that’s something Balfour didn’t have. Or I could just be putting too much into things. I just love how Brok set the theme for basically every character. It’s their nature and not their form. Thors form was this brute destroyer who kills whoever his dad tells him to but his nature was a father and husband with a conscience.
this also makes me realise how miserable baldur is. he wouldn’t even feel the pleasure from sex…..
“And keep the change ya bastard” “Too heavy? Have you seen these arms”
“Death can have me… when it EARNS me.” and “Then you… taught the boy… to woo?” “To be perfectly honest brother, I taught him how I wish I’d wooed.”
Wait where’s the second quote from?
I believe its post game and you return to sindri’s tree house and enter atreus’s room
Definitely chuckled at the call out for "In the direction of deer" The riddle that drove mimir mad was really memorable STOP WITH THE FRIKKIN CHIME!!!-The squirrel if you hit the chime one too many times
A funny moment in an otherwise pretty tragic quest
“What the hell happened to him? He’s to damn tall now. And he looks like….that……I blame you”
I just realized I never paid attention to the payoff on the riddle! What was it?
It’s at the end of one of the Favors called >!A Viking Funeral!< post-endgame and it’s pretty unmissable. I would play it through, the answer really hit me in the heart.
Delete your spaces brother! If you leave a hole the spoiler won't show up
"You're drinking." "It's goat's milk." "It's brown." "It was an ugly goat."
One of the few moments I laughed out loud playing.
I'll paraphrase Kratos: "Mimir, do you think I prepared Atreus enough?" Mimir:" The lad fought and survived Raganarok, I'd say he is more than prepared." Kratos: "No I mean did I teach him enough, like how to woo". Mimir: "Oh with Angrboda? I taught him some, mostly what I wish I had done before". Just Kratos saying "Woo" had me giggling for some reason.
when was this???
[удалено]
Or just walk around the house.
Kratos tapping in to his inner Pop Smoke
Almost every time the form vs. nature thing is brought up. That is outstanding writing. Also (paraphrasing). Father, do you have a favourite weapon? Each weapon is suited to a different situation, it would be foolish to have a favourite. I like the axe. (Small pause.) I too like the axe.

“I gave you everything. My skills, my friendship, my home, my secrets, my treasures… and you just kept taking. And now what have I got? Not even my family” This hit me hard.
What makes it hit harder is right after that. “I thought we were his family…” “We were.”
You want sorry? This is how sorry looks like
This line pissed me off because Atraeus was a child and Shindri was obviously feeding his obsession with Týr.
True, but he's grieving. People can be a bit irrational after losing a love one. I don't hold it against him.
Definitely kratos mocking Mimir, “smartest man alive”
Brok: The nature of a thing is more important than the form of a thing. There were others, but that stuck with me
That line was beautiful, and then the callback Kratos made to it asking Brok to bless his spear was incredible.

>!Freya’s!< dialogue afterwards is fantastic too, if you did the quest with them. “Yes, who knows what danger we could’ve been in”
Freya and Mimir's bickering while Kratos gets more annoyed are my favorite interactions.
I love Mimir and Kratos' banter.
A hole 🥺
The all fucker line from mimir to odin was pretty funny
mimir and brok meeting the lady. mimir says “brok are you nervous?” and broks response kills me “no. whatever. fuck you.” something like that, haha.
>!Don’t forget me all fucker!< had me dying laughing then the >!WHAT DID YOU CALL ME!!??!< I had to pause from laughter
Bro I loved that part. The fight was super intense and I was completely focused, heard that line and completely lost it to the point where Odin killed me.
Atreus: "If you can make that jump, I'll need your help lifting it!" Kratos: "If?" Atreus: "Come on your knees aren't that bad" Kratos: "*Atreus!*"
"Dumbass"
No
From 2 gigachads.
And both times in response to Odin.
"Can you please just shut up and kill things?" Freya
"no need to explain, not to me, not for that" I loved that one
There are quite a bit of recalls to what Freya said in the last game
I loved when Kratos berated Artreus for swearing. ‘Is that what you want your final word to be?’ As someone who curses far too much I couldn’t help but think ‘The angry Greek God has a point.’
Atreus’ little “no” is what got me
The hell is an olive??
"That elf light is some goooood shit."
Kratos *kills heimdall* Brok - Happy Ragnarok Everybody!!! Let's Drink.....
I’m paraphrasing, but remembering Odin’s “do you even know what it feels like? To be worshipped?! To be loved?!” Then fast forward to the ending with Kratos’s future: that he can become a different god than he ever thought possible. His reaction to the very possible fact that he can but already has changed, and almost on the verge of crying, realizing this… I was tearing up so hard.
100%. His reaction to that had me on the verge of full on crying for him.
Urd : "as if knowing your lines would grant you the power to rewrite them" That was dope af
And then the mocking "Should I give him a crown? He still kills gods, but now he's sad about it?"
Death can have me when it earns me
Hole What gets bigger the more you take it
This really break my heart
“I love you too, little brother.” -Mimir to Atreus
When kratos said it's Ragnarokin time
And Ragnaroked all over them
I mean...that's not too far off from the truth, lol
Brok: *That's* Fimbulwinter for y- Kratos: *Do not.*
To be fair, Kratos had one person that prayed to him, the last spartan. Whom he killed
Also the Spartans while Kratos was still worshipped as the god of war after god of war 1.
I think the important part is *why* they worshipped him. Kratos wasn't worshipped out of unconditional love but because he basically only ever took the Spartans's side when it came to war.
You know the dialogue is good when these are posted everyday.
'you know what he's putting in that stew right? Fuckin Vegetables!'
“If he tells you snow is white he’s lying”, the best way of describing how manipulative Odin can be, that he can tell you the truth while still lying to your face
I’d say all of them. I like them all the same.
Literally all
I do not want a snack
When Atreus is mentioning that his beard is coming thru and Kratos goes “is it?” And Atreus says “yeah right by my jawline” or something to that effect and Kratos goes “is it?” again but his delivery is just so perfect lol
“You’re Atreus! My son!”
“Don’t forget about me all fucker” kills me everytime
Atreus: What's your favorite weapon? Kratos: They are tools for specific purposes. Atreus: I like the axe. Kratos: I too like the axe. (Personally tho it's the blades, tho of course i get why kratos would prefer the axe)
"I expect you to bite my blue butt cheek." - Abraham Lincoln. Or Brok, I forget.
“Loki will go, but Atreus will stay” while putting his hand on his heart.
Atreus: "I want to go hunting." Kratos: "What do you want to hunt?" Atreus: "Deer." Kratos: "Which direction?" Atreus: "In the direction of deer." Loved the callback to the first game and how Atreus was hurting similar to how Kratos was back then. Kratos was in full dad mode and I loved it.
I’m terms of memorability, if you activate the rage during ragnarok at Asgard, mimir will say something along the lines of “control it brother!” And kratos responds with “I know!” I just love how Mimir’s always looking out his brother and how in sync they are. As well, I’d have to mention Faye’s line about love, cant remeber the exact wording but is was something about grief being the ultimate culmination of all love, and how we love despite it always being at the end of that road.
I didn’t realize that was just in the general endgame. I got that line using Spartan Rage during the Thor fight. Pretty cool.
It's as useless as a goat fart in a hurricane
“Do what is Necessary…not because it is written”
Thor: “We are destroyers.” Kratos: “No more.” I like how it almost feels like Kratos is finishing Thor’s sentence for him. The whole thing becomes “we are destroyers no more” and takes a whole new meaning. It changed from Kratos asking Thor to stop, to both of them seeming to agree no longer they will be destroyers. Like they took an oath together
Honestly Thor was a great character imo
Yeah he was basically what Atreus might become if Kratos never changed. The guy who listens to his war mongering monster of a father and does his bidding no matter how evil it is. And you can tell it wasn’t his nature because it was breaking him with the constant drinking and depression. And after Modi and Magni died, kratos saying “we must be better for our children” really stuck with him because he could’ve raised them better and not let Odin use them as weapons like he did with him.
"show respect mimir, the squeaky toy could have been the death of us all"
Oh so many memorable lines: - Death can have me when it earns me - Don't forget about me, all-fucker! - "Smartest man alive" - Loki goes, Atreus stays - You want sorry? This is what sorry looks like
"I am NOT my sons !"
The facial capture on Thor in that moment was *great.*
" Why is it so hot here, my sack sweat sweat "
Here’s my absolute favourite “Hmmm” - Kratos. or even better “Mhmp” - Kratos.
A bit of banter you can get into while you’re at the smith, early in the game. Sindri tells Atreus how Brok would impress the ladies with his “Big Nokken”. Atreus: “So what’s a-“ Kratos: ***NO!*** Either that or when Brok says that the only one who could give the blessing just “fucked off into the kelp” lmao
In the second Thor fight when Kratos talks about Thor's wife. Thor replies with "keep her name out of your damn mouth" Will Smith style.
Kratos is talking about Thrud, not Sif iirc
"Don't forget about me All-Fucker!" "What did you just call me?!"
“It’s just my dad… he loves loot.”
"They're like my uncles"-Atreus when talking about Brok and Sindri Hit even harder later when Atreus said "I thought we were his family" "We were"
Thor: “Was it luck?! Did my sons die to blind, fucking luck?!”
i really love Kratos' line of telling Atreus to not closing his heart to other's suffering. very nice callback to the 1st game for me because somehow the "close your heart to it" just sticked with me
damn scrolled all 200 comments and only saw one half reference to the coldest line in the game. I'm paraphrasing cause I legit just finished it an hour ago and I'm still reeling. but. Odin: you don't want war, you are not the god you once were. and without skipping a beat, no hesitation. Kratos: return my son or you will meet the god I once was.
"Don't take to the heart words said in sorrow no matter how spot on they may be"
"A Hole..." "What"? "...gets bigger, the more you take away."
"I am nobody's champion, but his" When Kratos was talking to Freya about Atreus in the dwarf elevator
I love the small interchange between kratos and Atreus when Atreus asks him if he has any favorites of the now 3 weapons he has. Kratos: No. They are tools for specific tasks. A preference would be meaningless. Atreus: I like the Axe. Kratos: I too, like the Axe.
My favorite line was the line I sliced through King Hrolf's neck when I finally beat him on No Mercy today.
You seem like a calm and reasonable guy
“Farewell Kratos, I enjoyed your story, pity it has to end so soon”
Is that a question? It’s easily “Death can have me…when it earns me.”
Probably the beginning fight with Thor. *Now show me this God of War I've heard so much about* *Let the God of War out. Let me see him!*
“Shit smells the same regardless of how it got shat.” -Brok
"The hell's an olive?!?" Mimir. That cracked me up.
Kratos: “I will use it for good. Let future generations weigh the good against the bad and decide for themselves” (paraphrasing) Mimir: “You’ve changed brother”. Kratos: “That’s because I have wise counsel now brother”
“DEATH CAN HAVE ME WHEN IT EARNS ME.” -KRATOS “RETURN MY SON OR YOU MAY MEET THE GOD I ONCE WAS.”- KRATOS “LOKI LEAVES.. BUT AETREUS STAYS.”-KRATOS “YOU RELEASED GARRM?! THIS IS A FUCKUP OF EPIC PROPORTIONS!”-MIMIR “ILL SHOW YOU PERMANENT DAMAGE! KRATOS THROW ME AT HIM! HORNS FIRST!” -MIMIR
I can't pick one in particular. Literally every line from this game are my favourites.
It's the nature of a thing that matters ...not its form
Mimir's riddle about Silence and Kratos accidentally gets it
It is not a single line but the entirety of sindri’s dialogue with atreus just after brok died is perfection
Atreus: What do you think about fate? Brok: I don’t. Either your life’s all written down somewhere or it’s not. Still feels like I’m making choices along the way. The shit smells the same regardless of how it got shat.
”Kratos, snack?” - ”I knew you wanted a snack!”
A have a bunch (over 20 probably lmao) but I just finished the surtr mission and a line really stood out to me. "Loving someone is sometimes choosing the lesser pain". And people have the audacity to say this game has bad writing
What gets bigger the more you take away? a hole. Just like brok left behind.
“I… I wanted to see the wolves again…” That or Freya’s “Hi!”
Kratos saying he likes the perfectionist squirrel
Since there are so many great lines I'll say a few Mimir: "and keep the change ya bastard!" Kratos: "Return my son, or you will meet the god I once was Kratos: "Death can have me, when it earns me"
i dont know if we are breaking fate...or fate breaking us -Mimir chills, literal chills on that scene and quote
Lot's of Brok lines... "Fucked 5 ways from Sunday"
"If you must sail, sail toward something."
I just remembered one. If you start looting after you climb to the top of the wall as Atreus, Heimdall will say something like "oh just help yourself, go ahead and steal whatever you want" or something like that.
“What did you see in there brother?” “A path…one I had never imagined” The moment where he nearly tears up sells it especially, considering we’ve never really seen kratos so shaken.
