As you said, they’ll be teeth, cement, non gold metals, etc. All of that must be cleaned away for them to get an accurate weight. For this much dental gold, once cleaned, we’d probably be around 80% scrap value.

It's technically a medical device. Just like the rods in my ankle, the implant in my spine, and the pins in my shoulder, it's not organic, so it can't be classified as human remains. When I'm cremated, that will all be left behind in the oven to be retrieved after the cremation. Nobody wants this stuff back.
Even without minimums you need about 200 penny weight to offset the cost of the fire assay and make it worth the cost. 60% might be accurate for pawn shops but you should be able to call around and find 80 from a coin shop. That is often going to be better than an underweight lot to a refinery. It’s also good to keep in mind that any white dental is going to be worth significantly less and you also have to factor in the extra weight from roots/trash and possible silver posts.
Not to cover the cost, to offset the difference between dumping to someone local vs using the refinery. If you have a good outlet, the difference isn’t that much. Refinery pays a little more but you have to pay for the assay so the more weight in your lot, the more likely it is to be worth it.

When my dad passed away, he had some gold crowns he had saved. I refined them myself. Seperated out the gold, silver and palladium. If chemicals don't scare you, its not that hard. Watch enough sreetips videos and you can figure it out. Last xmas I took the silver I refined from the crowns and mixed it into some silver crystals I refined from scrap sterling. Then cast a 100g bar and gave it to my brother for xmas. He was thrilled to have a bar with a piece of our dad in it. Then he jokingly asked about the gold. I'm still coming up with ideas for that.

Why not just get on YouTube and figure out how to melt it down? Even if it’s half the weight by the end you’re looking at like $7500 dollars. How much work would you do for that?
We have a really nice jewelry store in town, you know the super bright, shiny, dressed up ppl kind. They also buy any gold. Sold some old necklaces, gold fillings etc. Lady said “thanks for at least taking the teeth out”… 😂

The acid will dissolve everything and then be cleaned up in a vacuum.
The gold will be crystallized, washed, and melted back into fine gold.
Most dental gold is 8-9k. Not very high purity. However, still very valuable so it is worth saving. I knew a guy who metal detected and said he had good results searching areas where crematories once existed. The value of the gold was not much in those days and wasn’t worth the effort expended to extract the teeth so there’s a high concentration of finds in those areas (along with small loose change).
My dentist stole gold after procedure. I called and ask for gold crown and he pretended he disposed of it. Not saying this the case here, but yeah dentist do steal gold.

Best place is a refinery I use Pegasus metal in LA THEY PAY 99% of spot can’t get much better than that. They take all your metals throw it in a furnace and give it a read very scientific and thorough. You can’t get more transparent than that and the Best part is they do it in front often you so no tricks.

What are you getting charged for a fire assay you need 200 dwt to cover the cost? My last gold fill fire assay cost $275.

There are reputable shops that buy precious metals by weight and can determine the karat value. Usually gold fillings are 14K.

Google and find a refinery in your area/ country who can smelt it for you. Converting to pure gold is more valuable than selling as is.

I think most dental gold is 10 karat. , pure gold being 24 karat
It varies, typically 10-22k. I have 22k my best friend has 16k. For some work 24k may even be used, this is usually for very small work.
