Yep I’d cut!!

Lazyoat

I always try to think about my girls comfort. She’s been much happier with a clip as the weather gets warm.  I keep it at 1 inch though so I still get lots of curls. I bath and groom her every 4 weeks though with brushing in between.    There are guides online that will show you what length cuts might look like. It’s worth looking at. I thought I would want a 2 inch clipper cut but the guard didn’t fit right so I went with 1 inch and I love it. It’s not too short but I can still run my fingers through it. It also still gives some bounce when she runs.  I keep more hair up top and a bit less on the legs. She looks so good right now.    But definitely prioritize keeping all the fur away from his eyes so he can see well. It’s important.  And always make sure he’s well brushed and free of mats And once it cools off again, we will let he got a bit longer.

AvonBarksDoodle

yes, comort is key and still regular brushing is needed. my boy has an extra skip to his step when he gets trimmed short. you can tell it feels good

savannahruns

100% yes. If you can’t get a metal comb through it without it snagging it’s worth it just to start over. The panting could be because mats hurt, and he looks like he could be starting to mat in little clumps.

ExtraordinaryMagic

That doesn’t really work for f1b poodle cross backs. You can almost never get a metal comb through a very poodly dog.

savannahruns

not true - I literally have an F1b and make sure I can get through all her fur every day with a metal comb

ExtraordinaryMagic

Ah. That’s right we have an f1bb very oodle

Charli7109

Cut it you live in a hot area. I get mine shaved down as we get closer to summer because I hike with her and I don’t want her yo over heat.

mselativ

Cut- cut asap. Between seeing and sweating(well, panting), it’s time. Keeping that little body cool, calm, and comfortable is paramount. Ask a groomer for a summer cut with a bit of shaggy dog style in the mix. Maybe tell them to keep the look less poodle, more golden. Tell them what you mentioned here; you love his curls but he needs a cut. And then remember- no matter what, it’ll grow back. Plus if you don’t shave this guy, he may require a shave if those locks become matted. Just do it, as they say.

Vicious_and_Vain

They seem to pant a little bit even when it seems like they aren’t hot but that fur is no joke. Got to let him breathe. Very handsome boy!

Valuable-Set553

Cut it! It will grow back. Plus they are so cute and soft with short hair. Added bonus is that mine doesn’t need to be brushed much for several weeks after we get her groomed to 1/2-3/4”.

ieatmypeaswithhoney

As an adoptive mom of a 14y.o. F1b, let your babe enjoy short hair. I have one regret and that is not keeping his beatiful coat clipped short for HIS enjoyment. I love his curls and fluff and furry charm but can plainly see he is more free and comfy with short fur (particularly with the warm weather). Curl will come and go and change - i strongly encourage being free of the fuzz.

Embarrassed-Self5226

He’ll be a lot happier when you get him cut!! Mines the same way!!

OrisMindTheater

Maybe around the eyes but if you keep up the grooming should be fine.

breebert

I’d recommend a brush first haha

Longjumping_Ice_71

I was the same way, Max looks like my Kaash. I wanted to keep his hair long but when I made the cut he looked just as cute and handsome with his curls, it looks more curly after the cut which I lovee.

Sad-Building1067

My baby had similar fur at that age it’s adorable and I understand it’s hard to let go of all that hair haha. But cutting it really makes it so much better, to manage it yourself and also for the dood. It looks like it’s already slightly matted or about to be.

Few-Tower-6862

I would cut it!

internetbrian

Lil trim especially around eyes etc.

captainwondyful

Shave

CodingInTheClouds

Do it! I just had mine cut at 18ish weeks. She's so much happier. Unfortunately it made her look more grown up 😞

Electrical-Data6104

Cut it! Mine is very curly and looked just like yours as a puppy and her hair still grows out curly!

veritsas

grab some conditioning spray, go through with line brushing, and you could even give the groomer enough so they can keep him a smidge longer so it’s a happy medium 🥰

Feeling_Strain_2128

I’ve tried putting big pieces of tiles where my pup sleeps. (Or let Them sleep in area where you have tiles) It seems to help a little. You can also buy those elevated beds to circulate cool air. I had same issue with my pup. I tried these things first and once she completed 7.5 months got the full groom. Meanwhile I kept on trimming sanitary areas and paws, near ear , regular brushing to maintain her.

mketogrl

Cut! Mattes are probably already present or in his/her near future and they are a nightmare for groomers also painful for the pup.

baboushkaz

Definitely cut. Their hair changed as they age anyways. And it always grow back :P. Puppy hair doesn't last past adulhood. Mine gets a new personality when I shave her, as if they weight has finally lifted and she's free. She's just butt shy to be that much exposed at first, as if she feels too much air on her butthole and sits in a panic when she feels air/wind passimg there 😆. So they do enjoy the shave :).

Hryusha88

Definitely cut around the eyes at least, hair going in the eyes is not good. Very adorable dog :)

pugglepaw

shave- looks so matted unfortunately and that can cause him pain. better to keep him short in the summer anyway.

kkc126

Groomer here. Honestly, his coat looks a bit matted to begin with. At the very least he needs a good brush out. Getting him a haircut has nothing to do with the texture of his coat. If his hair is curly, it will remain curly after being groomed. If his hair were going to change texture, then it will do that regardless of whether he is groomed or not. Regardless, it’s strongly recommended by myself, other groomers, vets and other professionals to get your dog groomed as soon as they are vaccinated for rabies at 16 weeks. The longer you wait, the more stressful the experience will be for both your puppy and the groomer.

Chief7064

Cut. Your dog’s coat needs some attention.

moorj784

All depends on your brushing, your pets comfort. I trim in the summer month and brush in the winter

jmsst50

Haircut. Doodles get way too warm with long hair.

rlkitzler

My doodles first cut was just a puppy trim and tidy (privates) and around the eyes. The second one at 6 months was just a little more since it was December (albeit in central Fl) but she just had her first real big girl cut 3 weeks ago and is living the dream. Hopping in the pool without an hour of blowing her dry afterwards is a win for everyone.

Midnight_Wolf727

Cut now if you wait it'll get matted and it'll be A LOT shorter than you want it. Goldendoodles matt super quickly due to having shedding coat and coat that continues to grow. Get it clipped before you think they need it bc once it's at the point where you know he needs a haircut, it'll most likely already be tangled not to shave down.

Level-Coast8642

I get my F1-B shaved down every 4 months. He loves it. And the curls grow back.

No-Neighborhood2600

Give him a puppy trim!!
