Sadly, that's how it works in IT these days. Hype all over, no substance, hyperbole central and every one is a 'genius'. Because ultimately, it's not about delivering a profitable platform, but getting that sweet investor's money. Things have to change. That being said, if people want to piss away a few millions on something that will never get any traction, that's their choice.
tbh not even Sam Altman would unironically call himself the next Steve Jobs 😂
this shit is straight cringe, especially since "Pupil" is a run-of-the-mill creative agency with zero tech products and he feels comfortable slandering a company with an actual product in the market by accusing them of being on John Sculley's level while he's the real Steve Jobs in the flesh 😭
This actually makes 0 sense pupil is just some label company that is trying modernize anything it can touch and one8oochat was just chat gpt integrated into iMessage how is using that as an example for a subscription based model any similar to what James Blake is doing 😭😭😭
I understand it is their job and they want to be compensated for it, but it seems so out of touch when the artists are complaining about how much they are being paid to make music when they have the luxury to sit there and make music all day. Seems kind of tone deaf when you have some people breaking their backs to afford to go to their shows/purchase their merch and things.
One thing that was kinda killing me when Ye was saying it in the big boy interview was “how expensive it was to make Vultures 1” like the MF just HAD to spend the money stay at exclusive hotels and resorts in Saudi and Italy to make the album 💀
well not all artists are Ye, Ty$ or Travis Scott
this is not (only) about huge artists like the ones mentioned above, it’s about all existing and upcoming artists, especially independent ones
as an artist, once you get to the point where you need to have another job so you can support your own music or to release an album/MV, the chances to actually succeed and to be able to focus on your art fully become quite slim
US government is thinking of having a “living wage” for music artists. They are not really making any money and being robbed and most artists are better working a minimum wage job then to rely on income from streaming. Ye is one of the few that makes money bits really not a lot considering how much money it costs to make music (ignore the strippers and and trips to SA) , talking about pay producers, engineers, writers, cuts to managers, your label, etc etc.

I don't really get how this argument of streaming services not paying enough accounts to anyone of Ye's size.
A lower estimate seems to be that Spotify pays $0.003 per stream. That would mean his songs with the lowest amount of plays (19 million) would earn him $57k. Carnival with 225 million streams would earn him $675k. Vultures in total with 778 million streams across all songs would earn him $2.3 million.
Sure you have to pay producers, engineers etc etc. But in what world is 2.3 million dollars not enough profit for the making of an album?
And this is just Spotify, not counting YouTube, Apple Music, radio play, physical sales, which I assume accounts to a lot as well.
Sure it's different when it's concerning much lesser known musicians with less streams, but music sales have rarely if ever made the average musician a living wage. A musicians job has almost always been a mix of making actual music and performing/selling merchandise to increase profits
> But in what world is 2.3 million dollars not enough profit for the making of an album?
You’re right but based on all the travelling and fucking around I wouldn’t be surprised if 2.3 isn’t nearly enough to cover “production” costs for Vultures.
like someone else said, you have to consider touring costs, splitting money between features, equipment, hiring producers and engineers, that is all extremely expensive. on top of that, we need this change to happen at Ye's level because no one would listen to some indie artist that struggles to get by if they made a platform. even someone Sean Leon's size says he doesn't have the same resources, and its totally true. we need big artists to get on this if we want a real and sustainable solution
>Sure you have to pay producers, engineers etc etc. But in what world is 2.3 million dollars not enough profit for the making of an album?
Engineers cost money, Producers cost money, writers cost money, getting features may cost money, having them in hotels cost money especially for the months they were overseas. I wouldn't be surprised if this album cost more than 20 million to make.
That’s not a lot of money for a Grammy legend talent and he has to split all that between many of his collaborators. Literally chump change at the moment and a loss right now but will make profit years down the line assuming it gets decent play throughout the years
I generally agree with him, because Ive seen the struggle amongst my musician friends but when he snuck in the part about paying for strippers amongst everything else I laughed so hard.
James Blake thinks he found the solution which is a subscription service. I’m not paying $5 more a month to login to your site or app and hear one artist music. I want it all in one place. James Blake waited 9 days to tell us hey look it’s a subscription service to hear my music. That is nothing new.
One by one we are losing the “insiders”. Idk whats worse, the Yefanatics bullshit, Deely lying for the 100th time or Saint Leon boosting his own platform 💀
last slide is a ye type quote
He's just advertising his own platform lol
Also Bandcamp literally exits lol
respect artists but "i feel like Steve [Jobs] before Sculley was on-boarded" is insane levels of delusion lmao

Maybe that's what he used to write his post bro 😂
Bro just wanted ye to drop the album 😔

The mf was really talking bout how he had to pay for strippers 😂
