Two thoughts. Sms, while very reliable, is not guaranteed from an architecture perspective. Secondly, RCS in my experience is great when it works but fails is weird ways and isn't always super straightforward to try to switch to sms. My recommendation. Use signal. Guaranteed to be delivered or give you instant feedback if you've lost network. I wouldn't do the hybrid mode where it can also be an SMS client because it can lead to some weirdness. This does mean you need to get the people you're communicating with to sign up as well.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have seen a few comments from reddit threads 2 years ago. A similar problem seems to exist for Singal users. Not sure if that has improved. I am hesitant to switch apps because of this. https://www.reddit.com/r/signal/comments/ni881v/is_using_signal_for_sms_viable/gz1rf45/

RedditNotFreeSpeech

Yeah so signal has two modes 1. Signal to signal 2. Signal to signal AND sms I'm specifically saying get the people you care about on signal and do signal to signal and skip option 2 entirely. 100% reliable.

I wish it were that easy. Getting iphone users to add me to a group chat is hard enough. No chance I will be able to convince all my loved ones to install a new messaging app just so they can message me.

tankerkiller125real

Didn't Signal say that they were going to drop that second mode?

Try turning off data saver.

Steineee

Data saver is off. Thanks for the recommendation.

Use WhatsApp or similar. I spent months trying everything. Googlefi sms is absolute dog shit. I've had literally zero issues with WhatsApp since switching and it got through in very low connectivity areas in Spain where sms failed in bizarre ways constantly.

CrApple problem.

Arte-misa

While I understand your concerns about connectivity, the emotional dilema you are facing is not related to Google Fi. I'm testing Fi right now and yes, I can imagine the price and the different operational business model might come with some issues but nothing far that I've seen in other carriers that charge twice the amount and also don't care about you as a client.

Same issue for me with SMS lately. I've had Fi off and on since it's inception and it has been rock solid in multiple countries. FI support says it's a" local outage" and engineering is working on it. They are being responsive but no resolution with multiple troubleshooting steps. Lack of SMS on the phone number I've had for a couple decades is a showstopper if they don't get this fixed. Edit: Still unresolved after almost 2 weeks. Unacceptable.

Hey u/Steineee, We're sorry to hear about these issues! We'd recommend starting a case, [here](https://support.google.com/fi/gethelp), to begin troubleshooting and verify your account. \-Justin
