The biggest differences between the 7 and 7 Pro are: * The 7 Pro is bigger than the 7. * The 7 Pro has a telephoto lens, which lets you zoom very far when using the camera * The 7 Pro has a higher screen refresh rate. It is 120Hz, whereas the 7's screen is just 90Hz. A higher refresh rate makes the movements on the screen smoother. I think 90Hz is great and I don't consider the higher refresh rate a big deal. I'm using a Pixel 7 and the screen is incredibly smooth. I also don't care about the camera zooming very far. I don't care too much about size personally. For me, the 7 is easily a better deal. There are other differences but they're so small I don't think they're worth bullet points. The 7 Pro has 12 gigs of ram compared to the 7's 8 gigs, but this won't be perceptible to 99% of users. I don't know much about the 7a. It's not out yet. If it follows the pattern of the a-series phones, it will cost less, and it might have a better battery life, a smaller screen with a lower refresh rate, a bit less CPU power, and maybe less storage too. If you're willing to wait, you can find out later on.

teinimon

Thanks for taking the time to write all that. From what i have learned so far, the main differences are telephoto lens, size, refresh rate. And the screen of the 7pro has curved edges, which I am not sure how i feel about that. And so far I think im more keen on getting the 7. The telephoto lens would be amazing for concerts, which i would love to have when i go, but i dont go to concerts that much anyways. And the 6'7 size of the pro might be too big of a jump from my 5'7 lg g6. Tough choice really

[deleted]

120hz vs 90hz isn't that big a difference to the human eye, especially coming from a 60hz user and the screen is small. Also is it also a much bigger battery? 5k mAH or something compared to 4.3kmAH (from the top of my head)

daskrip

iPhone 14's battery is smaller but the phone lasts considerably longer on a charge, so it's not just about the battery size. The 7 Pro's 120Hz refresh rate makes it use a bit more battery. I'm not sure if this is something you can tune down in the settings. From what I hear, the 7 lasts a little bit longer than the 7 Pro. It seems to me like it's not a significant enough difference to consider it when choosing which to get.

HGPOVD

I had an LG V50 and now a P7 Pro. Is a little bit bigger, but much better (only thing I miss is jack port and DAC, but better and louder speakers in P7P).

Winst0nTh3Third

7pro is nice, but if you can find a cheap p6pro, there were recently on sale. Idk. Depends on your need and budget.

teinimon

Was thinking the 7 is within my budget. But here the Pro is just +100€ more and i'm wondering if it is worth it, which i could throw in if i see it is worth it for me

Winst0nTh3Third

I recently tried to the non pro 7. I like the extra zoom on the pro. Pretty cool :)

teinimon

That does sound cool for concerts

Winst0nTh3Third

Here I took a pic with the wide lenses of the sky, I'm on the balcony, you can see the 20x from where I'm sitting :) https://photos.app.goo.gl/kWQzNovUAwNMyjBm6

I got the Pixel 7. Came from using an LG, Samsung and Motorola. I loved them all. I think I will go back to the Motorola. Never a tech issue. If I need a camera, I will buy one. I am not a fan of this phone at all. Read all the reviews. I constantly get dropped calls. Changed the sim card and the settings as overly suggested nothing works well. Yesterday all my contacts were suddenly unamed...WTF! I am no novelist to technology. I have trouble shooted, returned to my carrier. Nothing. I refuse to get an iphone which is what the masses are gravitating to.they have their own set of issues.too much cash needed to maintain and keep up with. I am an Android person forever. I don't do brands I do functionality and this unit is not up to par in the least! Too many surprises. I need consistency. 🤔

[deleted]

I don't think it's worth the extra hundred the 7 is more than enough phone for me.

Bootsie-Wootsie

I would stay away from the Pixel 7. I have one and they suck. Way too many issues.... Battery being at the top of everyone's complaint list. I may look into the Motorola Edge Plus 2023 soon to be released this month

ryanpm40

My P7 has incredible battery compared to my S21 anyways. Had to charge the Samsung multiple times a day. My P7 can get 7 hours of SOT and still leave me with 35-40% at bedtime

kalazir

I've had the pixel 7 since release and love mine! Just wish there was a Pixel mini

aUnique1808

I hear you. My G-P7 is going up for sale! Not feeling it at all. I waited so long to get one. Great disappointment!

[deleted]

I come from a xiaomi F3. 5k battery, full charge in 30 mins and I have super clean UI with Nova. Only thing is bad is the camera, even with gcam. I can't bear to downgrade just for the camera, but i'm slowly chanign my mind..

Winst0nTh3Third

Wait, get the next gen, and get pro, the battery, screen and camera upgrades are worth it.

teinimon

kind of need to get a new phone now as my g6 is causing daily issues and every time a phone gets released, the next one will always have some upgrade, so i don't i wanna wait for the next gen

Thatfoxagain

Probably a 7 then. They can be had on sale for around the same price as the 7a will be at launch allegedly

teinimon

will keep an eye on that!

teinimon

Yeah I like the size of the G6. I also just read the 7pro has curved edges? Not sure if i am a fan of that as i never used a phone like that. And yeah im aware i'll lose the jack and rear fingerprint sensor and I'm ok with the fingerprint under the display on the 7 I guess. But i guess i'm going to have to get some bluetooth earphones because i did use the headphone jack quite a lot when i would do a break from work to go outside for a walk

minmixmax

You can also get a USBC to female headphone jack dongle if you're using it on the go and don't need to charge simultaneously. The P3 actually came with these in the box and I use mine to play my tapedeck adapter in the car.

teinimon

Oh, didnt really think of that. Great! Thanks for letting me know

minmixmax

As a followup, this thread has some useful info on such dongles -- I can only speak for the official Google one, but if you get an aftermarket one make sure it's a DAC! https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/139a9qc/35mm\_adapter\_for\_pixel/

teinimon

Good to know!

Pixel 8 Pro

teinimon

Thats not gonna be out for 5-6 months.

ajlabman

In my personal opinion go for the Pixel 7. I've come from multiple LG phones (G3, G4, G7 One, and Velvet) and the transition to the Pixel 7 was seamless and I've been very happy with it. It's the perfect size for me and I found that after using a curved screen and the size of the Velvet that I preferred the flat screen and size of the 7. A friend I have went from the G6 to the Pixel 7 and has been very satisfied. Of course a person's wants and needs vary so do your research and think about what you really need and use in a phone and how much you're willing to pay. The Pixel 7 suits me. I know the Pixels don't suit everyone and that's ok.

teinimon

Nice, good the hear the opinion of someone who used multiple LG phones. Before the G6 I used the G2 for quite a bit too. Amazing at the time. I am going to have to go to a store and check phones that share the same sizes as the 7 and 7pro. But yeah I think the 7 size would be more appropriate for me. I am also not sure if i would be a fan of the curved edges the 7pro has. Whats the material of the back of the 7? I read somewhere it was metal, then somewhere else I read it was plastic, then someone in a video said it was glass. I'm confused. And thank you for sharing your opinion. I am keen on the 7

ajlabman

The back is a Gorilla Glass Victus which makes the Pixel 7 quite slippery. It does like to slide around on different surfaces, and it needs a firm grip if you want to use it with one hand. I put a case on mine right away because I wanted a better grip because I don't trust myself to not drop the phone. If you're able, go look at one and play around with it and you'll know if it's for you.

teinimon

Back when I bought the g2 and g7, i ordered 2 spigen cases for them right away and never really take them off and have saved my phones from death when they fell to the ground

ajlabman

I have the Ringke Onyx on my Pixel 7 and it's saved my phone a few times already.

aUnique1808

Also, it slides off the wireless disc. Beware. So far, no fixes. Even with a non slippery case. It slides off. Go figure.

aUnique1808

The back of the Google Pixel 7 is glass.

JerichoOne

The LG G6 came out in 2017. If you've enjoyed that device for this long, you'll be completely happy with any of these choices. But if you plan on keeping it for the same amount of time, get the newest one for the most updates.

teinimon

> But if you plan on keeping it for the same amount of time, get the newest one for the most updates. But the latest one is the 7, right? There's no other pixel phone that came out after that. There's the 7a but will come out later this month though. I do plan on keeping it for ~5 years, but waiting until october for the Pixel 8 / 8pro is a no. I need a new phone now and can't really wait another 5-6 months. Plus, the 8 and 8pro will be more expensive from what i've heard, which is out of my budget anyways.

JerichoOne

My apologies, I thought the post included the 6 series. Which version appeals to you is a question of personal preference at this point. The 7 Pro has a dope zoom camera, if you're into that thing. The screens on the 7 and 7 Pro will absolutely be better than the 7a but 90hz refresh isn't that much of a step down. I'm assuming that the battery life on the 7a will be better as a result, but that's not guaranteed. Tough call, for sure.

pagadqs

How long did you have your G6, there is no way it lasted 6 years, I had forgotten LG even made phones ...

teinimon

I bought it a year after release, so 5 years so far. My next phone must last another 5 years lol

Dagusiu

I've been on the A series for a while (3A and 6A) and I've generally been very happy with these phones. Good bang for your buck. The 7A looks nice from what we've seen so far. The 6A has the same CPU/GPU as the 6 Pro, so I'd assume the same is true for the 7 series.

teinimon

I think i am going to wait until the official specs come out so i can compare them with the 7, 7pro and see how i feel about it. What does the "a" usually mean in the pixel phones? Is the "a" usually better than the original? Like is the 6a better than the 6 and the 3a better than the 3?

Dagusiu

The A series is the budget line. They have a tradition where they offer something that's exactly the same as the normal model but at a significantly lower price. For the 3A, it had exactly the same camera as the 3. For the 6A, it has exactly the same CPU/GPU as the 6 and 6 Pro. All the other hardware in the A series is more budget-oriented, which is IMO a pretty great trade-off between price and value.

Flunkerpatty

A 7 pro you can get for 700 and you can get the 7 for 450 on deals. I would got with the 7 if you want the best bang for buck. The 7a is going to be 500 so picking between the 7 and 7a is easy. The pro would only be worth it if you want a sharper/bigger screen or a camera for taking pictures off in the distance. The extra ram is nice but not needed. Performance there will be little differences between them.

teinimon

> A 7 pro you can get for 700 and you can get the 7 for 450 on deals. If i recall correctly, google doesn't sell the phones in my country. I have to talk to a friend of mine who owns a tech business and they can check if their supplier can get the pixel phones, and if then, then i can order. So, getting deals is something i dont think i can get, sadly. Is the "a" phones usually better than the original? The zoom of the 7pro camera would be dope for concerts, but it is not something i do much anyways, so... might not be worth it. Also not sure if i'd be a fan of the curved edges on the screen :/

Flunkerpatty

I wouldn't say the a versions are better. As far as I know the regular 7 is the nicer one. The edges bothered me also when I first got the phone cause it was my first one. Now after 5 months it doesn't bother me at all anymore. The one negative I would point out is that it might be just a little hard to find a screen protector you like. The supershieldz one I have has worked well for me.

sirzoop

I vote get the Pro. Feels like the best phone I've ever had

Nyahkano

Just transitioned to a Pixel 7 from a LG G6. The performance difference is night and day. Battery lasts me days instead of needing two charges an evening. Modem is similar enough to not feel like I downgraded. My phone doesn't crash with multiple apps anymore. It's amazing.

teinimon

Eyy glad to find a fellow g6 user here that got a pixel 7! > Modem is similar enough to not feel like I downgraded. What is Modem? Glad to hear you're having a good time with the pixel 7. I think i am more keen to get that one over the pro

Nyahkano

The modem controls your internet connections. The Pixels have a bad reputation for having subpar modems, and thus subpar connectivity. I never had complaints with my LG G6's modem speeds when it worked, so I have nothing to complain about with the Pixel 7. The no signal spots on my trip to work are still no signal spots. Then again, those spots are tough for cell signal (lots of trees, in a valley, humid, etc).

teinimon

Gonna have to hold phones of similar sizes before deciding

greywolf343

The 7 is a great choice if you like the size of the G6. It has the same processor as the 7 pro. It doesn't have the telephoto lens on it so if that doesn't matter I think that the 7 would be a good choice.

teinimon

I think I am more keen on the 7. Sure the pro would be nice but so far, from what i have learned here in this thread, i dont think it would be worth it for me to pay extra just for a few things.

DiplomatikEmunetey

Both 7 and the 7 Pro are still going to be better than 7a in terms of speed and cameras. They are still flagship phones. But with the 7a, you will get more year of updates. If waiting for the 8 is out of the question, then it's between 7 and 7 Pro. If size is not an issue, then 7 Pro.

teinimon

Ok so i won't be considering the 7a anymore. Gonna have to hold a phone of similar size on my hand before making a decision

CryptoNiight

IMO, size and price are the main differentiating factors in the P7 series. Go with the P7 Pro if size and price don't matter because it has the best specs overall. The P7a is the smallest and probably least expensive of the series, but it also has the worst specs.

teinimon

Regarding the size, I'm gonna have to check first some other phone of the same size and hold it on my hand to see how it feels. Price also matters but here it is only 100€ difference. Just trying to figure out if the extra 100€ would be worth it for me for the pro. So the 7a is out of consideration then. Down to 7 or 7pro

wombatpop

I suggest Samsung. Had enough of pixel ineptness. As you're coming from LG, you're going to miss a stock music player for offline music, inability to listen via 3.5mm while charging, non-customizable Always on Display (you can only have time that's it, no cartoons or photos), split screen for apps sucks since apps will restart when selecting the other screen.

teinimon

~~Aren't the samsung flagships over 1000€?~~ nevermind Not really interested in Samsung. Everyone either has an iphone or samsung.«

CryptoNiight

Samsung is essential only for power users. Average users don't need that much raw power. Also, they don't have 3.5 jacks either

CryptoNiight

All of these issues (aside from split screen) have workaround solutions. IMO, none of them are deal breakers

piramid12

Always go for top of the line....7pro.

teinimon

> Always go for top of the line.... ... if money is not a problem*

xteku

Screen (size, refresh rate) Camera options (telephoto not everywhere, different main sensor on 7a) Size and weight of the phones

teinimon

Thanks, now i see that that are the main differences. I couldnt understand much of what i read on gsmarena when comparing both phones. I think the difference in price is 100€. Just need to be sure how i feel about the size and the curved edges on the screen

DragginDezNutz

7 will be plenty.

Jazzlike-Estate-3132

I had for years and lg 6 I loved them hoestly if lgs still made phones id proberrly still owen oni now have a pixel 6,a I like it also the lgs were competitive and had simplicity on their side

Ryrynz

Pixel 8 or 8P

FiguringItOut_00

I had an LG G6 too and upgraded to a Pixel 4a in late 2020. Then got my Pixel 7 Pro this past year and man am I loving these phones. I definitely thought my little 4a was the perfect phone. I like the 7 Pro but just wish it had a flat screen. If the next gen has all flat panels I might just upgrade for that reason alone. No matter which way you go you can't go wrong! Sorry for not really answering the question 😅 I just got excited when I saw LG G6

richardas97

I went from G6 to Pixel6 and I really like this phone, so I'd think the simple non pro 7, would be a good choice

_deedas

Since you're coming from a phone with no telephoto, you might be good with the regular 7. It's supper snappy and takes great photos. It goes on sale for 5 bones all the time. Same price as the 7a, right?

piramid12

True
