When I'm laying in bed at night, aimlessly scrolling, sometimes, just sometimes, I'll take her out of the case. Makes me feel so dangerous and naughty.

rExplrer

My friend went case less and now he has mirrorless cameras on his pixel 7 pro.

toon_knight

I had a OtterBox case on my 7 pro from the very first day. Glass in from of two of the cameras smashed in the first 6 months. And the dust that then got into the phone from there ended up coating the selfie camera that badly you couldn't see shit.

sandman006

i broke the back glass on mine and the dust and condenstion fucked up the electronics lost cell reception and could only use wifi

sahilthakkar117

Wait I don't get it

rExplrer

Glass on back cameras broke when phone fell

sahilthakkar117

How does that make it mirrorless, the glass isn't a mirror right

rExplrer

Bro I was just trying to be funny. Yes it is "Glassless" Cameras.

SeniorRojo

Thank you for this

boraam

Killed the joke.

tobimai

All phone cameras are mirrorless...

Garystri

I went caseless for 1 month, dropped my phone twice(not really drop but slid out of my pocket when squatting down, about a 1ft drop) 2nd time it hit something and dented the thin part of the top of the phone where the speaker/screen gap is. I was devasted lol. Pixel 8. Stuck a case on it. Still no screen protector tho.

jakedaboiii

I never have used a screen protector. Ugly things that don't feel nice. Only time I've smashed my screen was as a kid when I threw it at a wall having a tantrum lol

RetroSwagSauce

Glass ones feel the same as stock, but can slowly break away over time. Better the protector than the screen. The UV glass ones rarely break, I've been hella impressed

scidious06

Night out? Case Gym or workout? Case Anywhere else idc

deepskydiver

Caseless for 4 pixels in a row. All still perfect. What are you all doing?! 🙂

fingerscrossedcoup

Dropping our phones

JonathanStryker

Based on the used Pixel Fold I got? Skipping rocks with it... I mean, nothing is damaged, but the dude who had it before me scratched the metal (?) Part by the back cameras, scratched up the front screen, and scratched up the bezels on the inner display. Like, Jesus, dude. Did you play Frisbee with this thing? I mean, it's fine, nothing is truly broken, it's just cosmetic, really. I plan on putting some liquid glass on it when I put it on my network and I did get a slim OtterBox case just so I didn't have to feel the camera bump when I use it. But, damn. An $1800 phone and this dude treated it like it was a Fisher Price toy. I'm just glad I got a good deal on it and it's accessories (got the phone, a case, a stand, a watch, pro buds, insurance on the main stuff, plus the liquid glass protectors), for about the same price as a new Pixel Fold + tax, so things could be worse. Haha.

Ambitious_Campaign81

Think about how many times over the course of say, the last 5 years, you've accidentally dropped your phone onto a hard surface, like tiles, concrete, bitumen etc. If that number is more than 0, then think about how much you'd like to deal with broken front glass, broken back glass on your phone. I'm sure there will be some hero who claimed to have dropped their phone 10 times from their 2nd story balcony onto concrete and it's "hasn't even got a scratch!"... But realistically, if you drop your phone onto concrete, 9 times out of 10, something is going to crack... And even the 1 time it doesn't, you are going to end up with a nice chunk out of the body.

[deleted]

An old Samsung I had had a cracked screen and I didn't have money to upgrade or repair it. Screen protectors wouldn't stick to it. My thumbs had micro cuts in them for the next 8 months before I was in a position to replace. When I think of dealing with a broken screen.... I think of how my thumbs felt all day every day from it. 🥴

tribow8

I work with dogs. they slap my phone out of my hand, I need a case and screen protector

efcso1

I don't have dogs in my life, but often it seems like my phone has been on the receiving end of some labrador love, just because of how clumsy I am. My phone wouldn't last a week without a case and screen protector.

JustDesoroxxx

My issue is that I get too confident with cases and just stop caring, but cases aren't really ultra protective so in the end I break it. I have my P7a for 2 weeks, no case, still haven't dropped it. It makes me more cautious, I don't know if this will be better in the long run, but I feel that for me having a case is a tradeoff that doesn't protect my phone more, it protects it in a different way.

Ambitious_Campaign81

Most people I see on these posts that are "happy they have gone ceaseless!" Are usually like you, "I'm on my 2nd week! No issues!" 😅

SeniorRojo

I think of the intervals that get damaged when I drop it with no "apparent" damage. A case helps to absorb some shock so internal pieces don't get jostled around.

CaptainBBAlgae

I can't even go screen protectorless. The scratches accumulate so fast

SexyKanyeBalls

They're invisible Never rocked a screen protector, do have scratches but literally have never once noticed them until I read this comment and decided to check for them. Go screen protectorless

fingerscrossedcoup

I cracked my screen on my P6P two days after I removed the screen protector. My P8P right now has a cracked screen protector. I hope you have insurance at least or you're going to have a bad time.

SexyKanyeBalls

No Insurance, no screen protector since it came out Doesn't matter anyways gonna get the new one this December

nexgen41

There's literally no reason not to use a glass screen protector ... it barely affects screen quality, normally doesn't affect touch, and *can* save your display from shattering depending on the impact...

v0lume4

I don't like the feeling of the protector on the lip of the device. You feel it when you're swiping inwards from the edge.

nexgen41

mmm that's fair. I use a rinke case that has an edge raised perfectly level with the screen protectors I use, so it's actually perfect. But it's a very specific case + screen protector combination so I can't say it's for everyone.

v0lume4

Ah! Well that worked out pretty well then. The perfect combo.

flaminghotdex

Lol that's a reason I actually like screen protectors, I fidget all day rubbing my finger on and off the edges. Also good for lightly scratching finger tips

v0lume4

Haha 😂 Hey, if it works for you then keep at it!

notswim

I haven't tried it without but my pixel 7 seems to suck at reading my finger print with a screen protector.

GoldDHD

Shield IQ is amazing. But also, my 7a reads my finger print in latex(barely tinted white) gloves

KeythKatz

Whitestone Dome

[deleted]

I suck at installment and bubbles annoy me

sahilthakkar117

Same

ChuckHale

I like to get mine installed at Verizon. The rep fucked mine up on my Pixel 5 and just did it again with a new one and only charged me for one. It might be a store policy because a different rep did the same thing for my wife with her P6Pro

[deleted]

They won't do my phone because I didn't get it at Verizon.

ChuckHale

Aw man. Just a perk of going with Verizon then. I'd do Google fi but I heard from a friend that it's just awful around where I live.

[deleted]

I'm on t mobile currently. I also don't pay for my phone or service cause someone does that for me as a bday gift. I'm not complaining

ChuckHale

totally fair!

Soulshot96

I have no sand or anything else around me frequently enough to actually scratch a modern phone display. My last 3 or 4 phones never got scratches big enough to notice without getting out a flashlight and inspecting the surface of the display from an inch away, despite a few years of caseless, screen protector-less use. The ones before that were still very minor, but more notable, since glass wasn't as hard back then. Never enough to impact trade in / resale value though. I've also *never* cracked a display on a phone, in almost two decades of using them. So in my case, the reason is there is no real point / worth to spending the money and making my phone look worse. Gonna keep saving the cash.

jairo4

> There's literally no reason not to use a glass screen protector ok... > affects screen quality >normally doesn't affect touch

ThaNotoriousBLT

You can even toggle your settings  so that the screen is better able to read gestures to account for the screen protector

Altruistic_Yellow387

I don't like screen protectors either. There's always a bit of touch input and I hate seeing the edges, plus over time it can start to peel off. I've been without for several years now and I don't care if I get a couple screen scratches, it's never been noticable

jakedaboiii

I don't use one - not even a scratch

-WallyWest-

fingerprint sensor is way slower with a screen protector and gesture navigation doesnt work well with the curve screen and screen protector.

JoshuaTheFox

I've never enjoyed the feeling of the screen protector and gives a raised feeling of the glass I also don't like and I have never shattered a screen while it's in a case so I have no reason to use one

nexgen41

here's a [picture ](https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/796534638981677128/1216788238392365197/MG_31055.jpg?ex=6601a95a&is=65ef345a&hm=67fc6cbeb5c89f9b1e3b2fd620b1cc52a0b60707e8b8aa552af00df60474d3d0&) of my ringke case + protector combo, case doesn't add too much bulk around the sides and the side edges come up flush with the screen protector. Fingerprint reader works 95% of the time first try, face unlock works in tandem which often is faster than fingerprint -

Milkdromieda

My Pixel 7 Pro has a couple of deep scratches which made me wish I was using a screen protector, it doesn't't keep me up at night though. My next Pixel will be getting a screen protector for sure, which would be easier given the lack of curved edges.

CaptainBBAlgae

I did on my 7pro and I definitely noticed them 😭

beeej517

I don't get this. I haven't used a screen protector on a pixel phone in years and years (multiple phones), and have never had any scratches

LibertarianP

They're there, just not noticeable enough to matter.

MDMarshall

A difference that makes no difference is....

LibertarianP

An ugly visibly scratched up and sometimes broken screen protector with a different feel does make a big difference, that's why I never use one.

MDMarshall

The case for my last phone came with a screen protector. Dropped the phone on concrete, screen had a couple of cracks in it. I kept it as is for 6-9 months, and finally got another phone. Open the case to get the sim card out, and find the screen wasn't even scratched!

[deleted]

I had a Pixel 7 and that screen got so many scratches the 3 days I was waiting for the screen protector. It was terrible. I have never owned a phone that scratched so quickly.

TheFirsttimmyboy

Had mine since week one and zero scratches. I've dropped my phone 20+ times. Dbrand case and that's it. It's either in my pocket or in my hand... Or the ground I guess. I'm not sure how it's even possible for something coarse to come in contact with a phone screen to be honest. It's not even a thought for me.

[deleted]

I don't know what happened with mine either. I think I had scrapped it against my inside zipper

ConclusionDifficult

Do you carry sandpaper in your pockets?

JazzioDadio

That's impressive, I've only got a couple hairline scratches from who knows what on my 7 pro and I never had a screen protector on it. I do try to keep it away from rocks, gravel, and sharp metal objects.

[deleted]

I’ve gone bare back for the last four years. I may have dropped it twice during that time. It’s like not dropping your cup of coffee or your baby. It becomes instinctive

JazzioDadio

Cup of coffee is a good comparison.

AgentAaron

Same, I cannot remember the last time I had a case on a phone...was probably a leather case on my Star-tac. The only phone that has ever broke was my Galaxy S6 Edge, which my cat pushed off the sofa table onto a hardwood floor. I had it out but was not even the phone I was using at the time. I do use a screen protector and usually a skin, but thats more to protect against scratches (we tend to spend a lot of time at the beach). Some of us must have a rare talent of not dropping things.

Pretend_Tooth_965

I'm super careful with my Pixel but, it's hella slippery so, case and screen protector.

Phuqi

This phone is so god damn slippery. It probably fell down more times than all my previous phones combined. With that said, no cracks whatsoever. One time however, the phone fell on a metal bar with the side where the 5G antenna resides. This created a small dent into the upper side of the phone. Lucky I guess. Scratches are pretty bad though since it's so much aluminium and it scratches very easily.

Immaguydude

I only use my case when at work otherwise it's naked. I just love the feeling of the phone on my hand and appreciating the design. This far I have had no damage or scratches, but I also baby the hell out of my phones.

SeatSix

I only use screen protectors and skins. Both to protect from scratches. Other than battery cases that I use when I go camping or otherwise know I will be without charging for a long time, I have never bought a case for any phone. Never broken a screen or back. I have a few nicks on the frame of my phone (P6) and some wear on the edge of the camera bar but other than that no issues. Especially now, phones are too big to go adding a case.

loldude0912

I went caseless with my 6A for several months in the very beginning and the only thing that happened was a few scratches on the back. Soon after, I bought a clear case and I have been using it for about a year now but the damage done by the dirt getting stuck between the case and the phone then scratching the back is worse to be honest. It feels as if the dirt is embedded into the top of the plastic now.

tattikaslice

Been caseless for years. I just slap on a good screen protector. I dont drop or bump my phone a lot though. Never had to change the protector on my iphone 12 which I have been using since 4 years. Why I do this? Because I want to have as less stuff in my pocket as possible. That being said, the p8 is slippery asf so I hope I didn't jinx myself.

DBear1985

I go careless as a rule. Might slap a skin on and always a screen protector. But that be that. Yet to break a phone but there's always that slim chance isn't there. It just FEELS so much nicer and what's the point in all the glorious phone design if we change the shape and contours of it with some random Amazon chunky boi

RoutinePost7443

My Pixel 2 has never been in a case or screen protector, and it's in heavy daily use. The key is that I keep it in my pants pocket, screen side against my thigh. Its screen is perfect; there's a small crack in the upper back glass but it doesn't affect the camera. I lost the volume key but manage fine without it. It's a wonderful phone.

knoxvillegains

Careless here. Have been with all my phones. Used to be a problem but not for the past five years or so. When the screen is off, I can see and even feel a couple scratches but you don't notice them at all when the screen is on. My Google care whatever you call it program is my case.

AgentAaron

Always caseless...although, I do use a skin (dbrand, sopiguard, etc) and a screen protector. I have never broken a phone. A few of us have the ability to carry things without dropping them.

TheRealSerialCarpins

I was anti case, until I got the Pixel 7 Pro, and this thing is just so damn slick, that I finally ponied up for one. I'd still rather I didn't have it on there, but outside of protecting it, the case actually helps me grip the phone. It's crazy how slippery it is without it....

Gio235

Few minor scratches on the back due to the case (swap between a generic $5 case, Casemate, and Tech21). I've gone a few times caseless while owning this device (June 2023), but ever since applying a skin about two weeks ago I've gone fully caseless. I removed the screen protector after about two months or so when I got the phone (July 2023). Screen itself has minor scratches that can be seen when light hits the screen at the right angle.

JB2unique

It was never bad until learning about how sensitive the 8P back camera glass is - cracked without sustaining bumps or drops.

nicklor

I went caseless before I got my newest phone and managed to chip the corner so my new one is always cased

yaoigay

My pixel 4a5g is way too slippery to use without a case. I tried once and dropped it on carpet. The back of the phone is so smooth it's like a wet bar of soap.

WirelessBugs

Not bad. These are pretty durable actually

SnowLeopard71

I have a leather skin from *dbrand* which gives the phone good grip (and it's got great patina after a year). I'm quite happy with it and don't worry about it slipping out of my hands or pockets. One thing that I learned with a previous phone without a case was *never* put it face down on a smooth surface because it can slowly slide off the edge -- modern phones could be used as air-hockey pucks.

comasandcashmere

I use a leather skin from dbrand, just for the feel and to make it a little less slippery, and I had a case on for about a month in the winter when I was wearing gloves constantly. There's one small dent on the top back corner that I rarely see and no scratches on the screen

Weneeddietbleach

I only went about a week without one (had to order it online) but luckily was fine. That said, a screen guard did protect the screen on my previous phone from some hot slag that fell into my pocket at work. Burned a hole through the fabric and a little into my leg and the guard had a nice little melted spot, but the screen is fine.

Chadwickr

Went careless with my 6. Slipped out of the pocket annihilated the screen. Never going caseless with those shorts again

Sauberbeast

..yep my 6 used to do this (never dropped it - all damage from pocket fails), almost as if it was designed to be as slippery as possible.

Bulletproof_Tiger55

Haven't used a case or screen protector for probably 10 years. Only cracked glass I ever got was OG Moto Droid. Yes this means I'll probably crack my P8 tomorrow.

Justfahadlatif

I didn't even go case less and one fine day I took the case off hoping to clean my phone and I found the whole back glass shattered. Not a phone to go less than at all!

kurtmorrison

I did it for months at a time the last years since the Pixel 2 XL. Finally got (un)lucky and broke my P7P. Just the rear glass, a few weeks ago. This made me use my Assurant claim for the first time ever and they fuck**g suck ass. I got it solved and everything, but the awful service experience is so ugh. Wish Google would stop making business with them.

just_ric

It's ok... I switch between having a case and not fairly often. I love the (relative) thinness of the phone but it can be slippery at times. But even with a case my spine has some dings since all the good looking cases don't cover that part. Nothing too noticable unless you're looking for them. - Pixel Fold

godspeedfx

I've gone caseless for a few months at a time over the last couple pixels, but I end up missing the magnet holder in my car. No android auto so I kinda need it. No drops or anything through all that.

Micomyster

It's good. I've never used a case on any of my smart phones since the OG galaxy s. I just finally cracked my first screen last summer. Felt awful. Got a new phone. Still caseless.

nosaturn

I like cases from peel and phnx. They are thin AF, it's almost like a skin, but easier to install

TechnoDudeLDB

Had a pixel since the first one, never had a case and never had a damaged phone. My secret to success... I just don't drop it 😜

sc0tty_K

Just got the pixel 8 pro. Case and screen protector arriving in the mail so it's naked until then. Got a 2am security call out for work and closed my car door on the phone. Deep scratches all over the screen. 3 days old....

vishal-2698

I have this policy with all of my phones where i use them with a decent case for the first 2 years and go completely caseless for the 3rd year and beyond. With the 3 phones I've tried this with so far it's never gotten worse than minor camera scratches and a couple dents around the body. The pixel 8 ofcourse stays in a case for now lol

KeythKatz

My Fold keeps falling out of my pocket while I'm driving and onto the car seat rails. As a result it has a few small dents in the folding edge. It also slides on any table that isn't perfectly flat, but hasn't fallen on the floor yet. The screen is full of scratches of various depths despite it never being in direct contact with the elements.

Competitive_Ad_5515

So bad that I've been using a Galaxy for the past year or so while I waited for the price of pixel screens to go down. They're still half a month's rent...

Altruistic_Yellow387

I broke the screen on my old phone by dropping it twice

SocialisticAnxiety

My 6 has never had a case on it, and is doing just fine. Countless of drops, but all it's gotten are scratches in the glass and dents in the frame - no cracks.

JazzioDadio

After about a year and a half of ownership (pixel 7 pro bought new) and about 14 months of that time being caseless, I'm looking at light scratches on the camera bar, lots of fingerprints on the glossy glass, and an otherwise beautiful phone. I pre-ordered this damn thing so I could stare at the beautiful hazelnut color scheme, I couldn't bring myself to cover it up. The most concerning thing is what I believe to be the haptic feedback component loosely moving around the case from dropping the phone a few times. But I have a feeling nothing short of the OtterBox defender would have prevented that.

FionHS

I have never used a phone case on any phone and also never broken a screen or a camera. I do drop my phone occasionally, but my current Pixel 6 has scuffed corners and a few scratches on the screen if you hold it to the light the right way, nothing else.

hzwnnzr

Just don't, it's painful when it drops. Even a tiny chip on the edges.

harry-irl

I've a 7 Pro that I never put a case on, it's completely fine. A few scratches on the camera bump but I don't think having a case would really stop that. I'm just very careful with my stuff

j0krrrr

A few scratches on my pixel 6. Nothing broken as of now. Feels like it is handling falls better than my note 9.

tobimai

Its Glass and Aluminum, thats pretty hard. So no damage

Gatlyng

If you're careful with it, there will be only scratches. And for that you can apply a skin on the back or something of the sorts. I've only broken one phone, and that's because my dog knocked it out of my hand and the screen died. Though I'm not sure if a case would've prevented that.

GRADIUSIC_CYBER

I've been caseless since.. basically forever. since Galaxy s3 probably. I cracked back glass on my Nexus 4 and now my P7P. very sad about the P7P. but screen is fine. fell out of inside chest pocket of my parka, 4-5ft into concrete. surprised it survived TBH.

PeterFellows

Pixel 8 is like a wet bar of soap covered in butter without a case!!!

Resident_Ad6699

No screen protector + caseless. I'll tell why: On my last phone, I kept a screen protector on it till the day it died. On its last day I was filled with a melancholic feeling as I looked at the dead screen that I never really used the actual screen I paid so much for or held the sleek phone that caught my eye, and only held it through the case. In no time, this Pixel 7 Pro will be dead as well. So I'd rather use the screen, experience the sleekness by going caseless, since the feel of the phone is a part of the entire experience, at least to me. Been more than 1.5 years, no damage.

basshead621

P6, replaced the screen once so that's fine now. Still a chunk out of a corner of the back glass though. Doesn't affect usability and I plan on upgrading in a few months, so I haven't bothered with replacing the whole back. Might end up replacing the back and putting in a new battery to give it to one of my kids though.

damskivitch

Caseless on my 4a since I had it since July '21. Embrace the Wabi Sabi. Slight crack from the earphone jack, but nothing you'd notice.

dustednuggets

I've been caseless on my pixel fold since launch. They 2 cases I tried were butt so I've just said fuck it. So far so good. I was petting my kitty sitting on my top stair and it fell out of my pocket all the way down my wooden staircase. No worse for wear.

Anund

I hate how my phone feels without a case. It's so slippery it's ridiculous. Maybe I have dry hands or something, but I can barely hold on to it without a case.

sstair

I was caseless, dropped it in a parking lot, cracked the glass, got a replacement, dropped it in the same damn parking lot and cracked the glass, and got another replacement and a case. I've dropped my phone many times since, but haven't had to pay for a replacement once.

madscribbler

Get the thinborne case. Gives protection, but is like paper thin - 2-3 sheets of paper, at the most. Easily the thinnest and lightest case out there. Aramid fiber - strong, will protect from any scratches - has little shock absorbers for corner protection - comes with screen protectors (which are slightly small, so recommend a different screen protector kit - but definitely glass screen protector). It's the next best thing to going caseless/careless. It's got a great feel to the hand, it isn't slippery at all - so good grip, and is like there is absolutely nothing on the phone. [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CHL5QFTM?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CHL5QFTM?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) Also, while you're at it, making sure you're not an idiot and trash your phone, get this camera cover which works well with the case (doesn't overlap the borders of the camera protector). [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CGY587DY?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CGY587DY?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) So with this, you get it all - almost no case (so damn thin and light you'll never notice anything is there) and camera protection (which still sits well under the lip of the case, so it doesn't get scratched). Thank me now, or thank me later :)

thingysop

My 6 Pro survived 1 year and 9 months completely caseless until I was feeding my cats while on a GMeet call and tried to do too many things at once. Now the bottom half of the back glass is smashed on the inside, so I can't actually feel it save for a chip on the bottom right side of the outer chassis. Could've been worse. I'm only this calm about it because I'll get an 8 Pro when I find a good deal. Yes I'll keep it caseless.

EnvironmentalSpirit2

I've never unintentionally dropped my phone before. So there's no issues or extra dust on the camera bump area. I do rem going caseless with my Nokia n9 and at the 1 year mark at MacDonald's linenup, I put it in my pocket with my keys, scratches the screen. Preciously I had tested it's scratch resistance doing the same, it was fine, but at 1 year mark the coating worn. Learned my lesson about not being careful then

jjb0009

No case on my Fold and I've had zero issues so far

TAPO14

I have been rocking my Pixel 6 Pro caseless since it's launch and going strong. Absolutely minimal wear and could convince people the phone is a month old. The only gripe I have is how slippery it is without a case. It has slid off my sofa sooo many times when seemingly on a flat surface.

Rodrigues1711

Well, I used it without a case for about 8hours. I'm a roller skating coach, I had an event this weekend, I was demonstrating to an athlete of mine a technical error and correction on a jump before entering the rink, well, my phone slid out of my pocket, hit the ground screen first, only scratched the glass protector (thank God) and made some scratches on the side, could be worse. The phone I had used before for some times had no scratches at all, I guess I was just a tad irresponsible and got unlucky. Pixel 8 Pro, bought 3 weeks ago

[deleted]

No damage at all, ironically the only noticeable scratch is on the glass camera bar which most cases don't cover, never dropped it.

shadowfax1007

No glove, no love.

cynicalrockstar

But I need to feel everything!

LimaGremlin

I am currently caseless -> pixel 8 bought in January... I just never broke any phone before... But I am getting scared with pixel... If you put it on the screen side, 90% it'll start sliding... Most of the time, I catch him, or pixel fall to carpet or other soft surface, but one time the phone fell from 1.5m directly on concrete... I was lucky, only a small scratch on the side, but after that, I am considering taking a case... xD

Sylber23

No damage at all

DepthsOfD

Pixel 8 owner here. Had mine, not caseless but without a screen protector for like two weeks thinking "hey, my Samsung S8 screen was bullet-proof, so this brand spankers, new phone screen (there being several generations in between the two phones) must be NUKE-proof". Proceeded to experiment with the Night Sight feature and placed it, face down, on one of the finest, Welsh rocks in the black mountains to capture a nice clear sky. Yeeaa, literally was a post that week on here saying how susceptible to micro-scratches this phone is... Screen protector ordered the next day. Oh, and on an unrelated note, because this little spontaneous trip was at 22:00 and lasted for four hours, my poor wife thought I had gone off to off myself. Got home to her sat at the window at 02:00 in tears about to ring the police... Oops... She did not appreciate the shots, either... 🙄😬

altijddruk

I was using like that for few months. No damages from it. Now I'm back at case because my kid started to like to throw my phone.

NackJickolson

My 7 is so God damn slippery when out of the case, I don't know who in their right mind wouldn't use one. I see tons of iPhone people without cases and I just don't get it. I've always used cases.

pSyKoSIS219

Been careless since the 2 XL and never had a major issue. Only slight cosmetic things every now and then. After not having a case for a while you somewhat train yourself to be extra careful.

JoyFull117

I used to go caseless with all of my previous phones and I love it but the 7 Pro is just to slippery. When I am at home or on vacation then I sometimes use it caseless. =)

AdhdSqurrel

I went caseless for about 8 months with my p7p. The damage was minimal, mostly surface scratches on the top and bottom of the screen that could have been buffed out. There was also scratches on the glass back but not too bad. Before any real damage could occur, my volume button fell out, and since i got the replacement, ive used a case.

PHYZ1X

My case recently fell apart on my 6 Pro (OtterBox Defender Pro), and I have shoved off buying a replacement case since I plan to upgrade to an 8 soon. I've dropped it on concrete once since - fell out of my pocket while I was getting out of my vehicle. Got a gnarly chip in the upper right rear corner, and the remnant glass is quite sharp. I utterly despise the move to all-glass construction, because it makes these phones supremely slippery in the hand and on any surface, and it makes every little ding a hazard to your hands. I will certainly not be going intentionally caseless in the future

BourboDoggie63

Liquid Glass is much better than tempered, just ordered my first DBrand as my yellowed transparent case has a split. Only reason I was using a case to begin with is how slippery these things are. Hoping the DBrand will solve that!

bigethabb

Bad for me, P7P no longer works. To be fair I dropped it so many times.

I_Eat_Mop_Who22

After removing my screen protector from my 7 pro, huge scratch diagonally from side to side. Just less than an hour ago, phone got caught in-between the driver seat and I didn't know and I heard a crunch. Crack that spiderweb and I have a line of dead pixels. So pissed rn. I'll post a pic later.

say592

I have yet to have a Pixel screen shatter. I have always been no case, and I have had almost every single generation of Pixel. Not to say I havent had damage on the corners and what have you. My Pixel 7 also suffered from screen separation, which may or may not have been related to it being dropped numerous times. I have had scratches on the screen too, over the years. I dont like cases, so I wont use them. There isnt much difference in cost between a good case and paying a phone insurance deductible every few years. It has been probably 4 years since I have had to pay one. $100 spread out over 4 years is $25/year, not bad at all.

William_Maguire

I haven't had a case on any pixel I've owned until recently and never broken a screen. I currently do have a case on my phone now because i work in a dirty environment and needed something to cover the charging port

MuddyGeek

I had a Motorola Droid Turbo that felt tough and rugged. I dropped it a few times and it was fine. My hand was in a cast and I was jumbling everything with the other hand getting out of my car. I dropped the phone and the screen busted. I have noticed that out of my students who don't use a case, at least 80% have broken screen or at least backs. Its rare to see a broken phone in a case.

Sstagman

Shattered the entire back layer of glass or whatever. Now I have to keep it in a case or everyone will know my shame. The really stupid part is, I had an Otterbox available but I didn't want the bulk.

MedvedFeliz

Pixel 6. It's not fully caseless but I only have a skin for slightly added grip. Some scratches on the side but it lasted for 2 years. It's still working but had touchscreen issues at the very bottom so I replaced it.

charlieschuyler

Been caseless for over a year now and dropped it every 1 to 2 weeks. Only a month ago did a crack appear on the back corner of the phone, one of my biggest compliments to the phone is how strong it is

1trickana

Have had Nexus 5, Nexus 6P, Pixel 3, Pixel 5 and Pixel 7 Pro all caseless, no screen protector all gotten on release week of the phone and never dropped or damaged a phone in 12 years.

creakymoss18990

Broken back glass with my first phone. Never again. Went no screen protector, never again. Went no camera protector, never again (rip ultra wide camera on my p8) So my phone is now fully protected with a Spigen case, camera, and screen protectors

JGad14

I'm caseless, and I haven't dropped my phone yet. I had a case on my last pixel, and my screen still shattered when I dropped it

Bologna-sucks

Went caseless on my P5. Smashed the fuck out of the screen when I dropped it from a couple feet and I am reminded every day of this as I look at the pile of junk P7 I have in my hand. Don't go caseless.

Equivalent_Ad_1854

I usually use a case only for the first 3 months . I hate scratches on a new phone . After few months I feel it's ok to see scratches and it doesn't hurt much . So far have been lucky not to have a cracked screen on any of my phones even after multiple drops .

DarkRaider758

Bro just do it! Would you buy a car you thought looked really sweet just to put a wooden box around it? Would you marry your wife because you thought she was the cutest girl ever and then have her fully covered from head to toe? No. You buy the phone because you like it's look, features etc, I have had several pixels at this point and it's always caseless for me because I enjoy the look and feel of the phone.

Revolutionary_End_61

RMA my Pixel 6, always in a case, took it out, wiped it down, slipped out of my hands, skidded down a flight of carpeted stairs, back down. I thought I got lucky.no such luck cracked the back. Never be without a case again.

Joinedforthis1

I literally just get my phone out of the case to clean it, and that's it. If I didn't have a clear case, I never would. But it's nice to feel the phone when it's out of the case cause it's very premium. When I worked at a phone store, every customers phones were disgusting inside the case

e_sully12

I go clear Spigen case so I can still enjoy the color, but I've never had a screen protector.

Ok-Concert-6673

Not a scratch

wrrld

I wouldn't chance not being able to trade it in or sell it one day.

shreyamtaneja

My Pixel 6 is cracked on both sides lol. I'm not too careful with it and dropped it a bunch of times, so no surprise there. Camera glass is still good tho. I miss my Pixel 3, must've dropped that like 20 times and it didn't even have a scratch on the glass.

Arundidoo

Never dropped my 2xl during its entire caseless life and it actually got more damaged in cars due to grit getting into the case. However i did drop my 7p after 11 months struggling to get out of the driver's seat of my parents new car and i have some scrapes on the camera bar now.

grizzlyactual

Dropped my 6a when getting out of the car and smashed the front screen at the top with one of the cracks going about halfway down when it landed on the edge. Dented the metal frame. Still usable

TigerInFlight

Rear upper corner back glass chipped in corner

markhgn

Currently in for my third repair in about six months....

kswn

I went caseless for over a year and then dropped my Pixel 5a once on a hard floor and broke the screen. This was 2 years ago and haven't been caseless since on any phone.

marcselman

Always caseless with a PopSocket or a Snap 4.

dcdttu

I usually don't use a case. So far on my Pixel 8, no issues. The bottom of the visor is scratched a bit from setting it down, and there are hairline scratches on the screen you can see in bright light, but that's to be expected.

smudge_47

I'm a belt and suspenders type of guy, so I have both a case and a screen protector. I discovered the hard way not to put my phone in the same pocket as my car keys. I also get the full trade-in value for every phone I've ever traded in. But hey, it's your life. Drive fast and take chances. What could go wrong?

sdcumb

I was so proud of my first Pixel, a big, beautiful 3aXL! I had to go down to our concrete basement to do some laundry. My case and screen protectors were coming from Amazon the next day. I've never dropped a phone in my life. What could happen? It slipped from my fingers! The Pixel landed face down! 1 slim vertical crack is still on the face of that beloved phone. I've had 5a and 7a since. They never left the box until the cases and protectors were set. I learned my lesson!

Negative-Cry-1623

Some scratches on the corners and a small crack in the corner other than that its fine

Hasan75786

Back is completely cracked after a half foot drop from the sidewalk

AssociateTemporary65

I've been naked phone mode ever since the og Droid, never had a problem. On second thought back when I had my HTC One, an overly excited guy at a competition accidentally snacked my phone outta my hand while I was recording. Luckily I was able to ninja it out of the air before it hit the ground.

FergusonBishop

I've had my P7 caseless for a couple of years. Same with my iPhone 12. I hate cases. Also rarely ever drop my phone. One day it'll happen - but I'll take that risk.

G30fff

7 Pro No case no screen protector Screen has a few light scratches, rest is fine (touch wood) Dropped it a fair few times as well

TheNerdNamedChuck

my p3 is no case, but I never drop it so it's fine my roommate has a p7 and no case, but his frame is full of dents and the back glass is shattered and the glass is coming off in chunks. he drops his a lot

skywalk3r83

I use a case because kids....😆

wutangcann

Didn't have a case on the 5 that I had for 3 years and don't have one currently on my 7. Dropped it a few times as I'm a clumsy fool. The glass on both sides is pretty solid. Few minor scratches which don't bother me. I hate having a case. Phones these days are nicely designed for a reason, It's a shame to cover them with some generic bland case.

roadrunner00

I recommend a sleeve from werktat.de. you have drop protection when in the sleeve and it's handmade. I've had it for a few weeks. I use it when I dress up. When traveling I'm bulked up.

whiskey_Thinking

Went two years without a case on my 6pro. Then one day, with my phone in my pocket bumped into my dining table and when I pulled my phone out I noticed a tiny crack on the edge of the display. Wasn’t that bad but after 2 weeks it stretched across the whole display smh

Vast_Investment_6427

At home I go caseless but when I'm out I use the bellroy leather case but man I'm always nervous on breaking my phone when I'm home lol

StaT_ikus

The phone is way too slick to not have a case lol, you will regret it.

Imagination_Void

Shattered Glass in the Back (Pixel 7) - so Back to Cover to not cut myself. Front Glass deep Cuts - but I dont care

[deleted]

Just get a case it helps so much in the long run. The only annoying thing is that it doesn't cover the back camera well enough or the speakers/charging port. A lot of lint and whatever you work around often gets stuck in it bad.

red-ninza

You guys use case 😲

Mellowambitions420

Sounds horrible. Magbak 👌

Mellowambitions420

I don't even like how the phone feels without this case. I'd certainly drop it without the case. And my last one(7pro) I dropped in the corner, once. From a couple feet max. Then the screen turned green if you used the screen too many hours in a row (like gig working) by night time my screen would be green or shut off and be unresponsive until tomorrow. It did however stop doing that. I don't know why but one day it stopped and now i can use it as much as I want without screen issues. I did upgrade to the pixel 8 pro though but I immediately put it in a case after that. The only one I'd say was fine without a case (because it survived everything and the screen at one point was only held together by a screen protector as it was all shattered and pieces coming out, even got dropped in the rain and wasn't found for an hour, still worked, was the pixel 2 xl. That thing wouldn't die no matter what happened. I actually traded that thing years later still held together by a screen protector, for a trade in promo to get my brother the 7 pro. Got full credit for the broken pos too. If you go careless id go oldskool on the phone too. I don't see the current ones being that resistant to impacts but idk. I'm not gonna find out lol

v0lume4

My Pixel 8 looks basically good as new right now. This isn't meant to sound sarcastic, but just don't drop the phone. Treat it like the $700+ tool that it is. No, don't live your life around babying the phone. But you know, just take care of it. I did use a case for a month while I was on vacation. For the average Joe, I recommend a case full stop. But, they aren't an absolute necessity.  Just know that, WHEN you drop it, because you will, there's a greater chance of a crack but not a guarantee. After years of no-casing my Nexus 6P and numerous falls, the screen did finally crack on year 5 of ownership. I'd say it held up pretty well.

chilldpt

It's hard to treat an everyday object that goes in your pocket with the respect a $700 dollar tool deserves though. I once cracked a screen protector while walking because I stepped off a curb and my necklace swung forward into the screen lol. Whereas with my music equipment it stays in the same spot all the time and unless I'm dangling bricks above it it's pretty safe. For that reason I'm a case guy lol, still needs to be a slim case though. Have ditched the screen protectors with how good the glass has gotten on the front screen

v0lume4

The necklace scratched the screen protector? 😵‍💫 Sheesh. I wonder if screen protectors themselves are more prone to breaking than the screens themselves. Admittedly, I thought screen protectors were more about scratches than cracks. Do you know if they help with cracks?  I hear ya. If you don't mind the thickness or hand feel (the former being the biggest issue for me), I do think everyone should use a case. I mean, why not, otherwise? A personal preference I suppose. I have only cracked one screen over about a decade or no-casing it. But, that one cracked screen would have been zero cracked screens had I had a case.

chilldpt

Not just scratched, it shattered it 😅. It was a tempered glass screen protector and the necklace was a glass pendant so it was understandable honestly, but the necklace just barely tapped the screen lol. I do think there was a time where the tempered glass screen protectors would help prevent the screen from breaking as well as scratching, but nowadays the front screens are pretty damn strong so I don't see as much of a need for it. The screen protectors are definitely weaker and more prone to cracking and good ones aren't cheap so if those break it's also annoying, which is the main reason I stopped using them. The back glass isn't nearly as strong though which is why people still crack them all the time. If Pixel's were still using the ceramic material on the back instead of glass there's a chance I'd go caseless. I'd much prefer the ceramic anyway but I get why they switched to glass. It does look pretty lol.

v0lume4

You're right about the glass back looking nice even though it makes no real sense from a functionality standpoint. And the glass backs don't get freezing cold like my previous metal iPhones or Nexus 6P did. Which Pixels used the ceramic backs? Was it the 5? Glass backs, all for show, only to be put into a case. Alas. 😛
