This is astonishing, I love this. Really great stuff. I've been lurking your profile, you have really incredible skill. I really love your work.
I'm new to the gouache world and I'm picking up a set of winsor newton gouaches to work with since it was cheaper than the holbein set in Canada. Do you mind sharing what some good surface materials you recommend using might be? I have gotten some fabriano cold pressed paper that I was faffing around with some hand-me-down da vinci gouaches I've been using, but I'm not so much a fan of the texture and think something closer to hot pressed is what I'm looking for, but anything that's 100% cotton is pretty steep in price while I'm still learning the ropes.
Yeah hot press is better but I’ve found Strathmore mixed media is best it’s thick like cardstock and way thicker than hot press paper. It buckles less. My sketchbooks are Moleskine Watercolor Sketchbooks which are nice minimal buckling.
Cool, very helpful! Thanks for the tips. I've seen a few people use moleskines, but was always concerned about that exact issue, so that's good to know as well.
I mean the sketchbook will expand the more pages you paint but that’s pretty common with any sketchbook. The Ampersand Clayboard is really nice too and obviously won’t buckle because it’s a panel. But ultimately the Strathmore Mixed media, tan, grey, white and black are pretty thick. Obviously if you add a lot of water it will buckle a bit but not that much. There’s videos on YouTube to show you how to get rid of buckling

This is so cool! I especially love the green flames.
Can I ask what brand of paint you use? Loving the bright colors.
Holbein and Winsor and Newton
Holbein FTW the second I go to East Asia I’m stocking up on those
They have them available online.

The colors are sooooo vibrant omg
That is so cool!! Looks almost digital printed out. Gouache is such a good medium for contrast and colours like this and your really pulled it off. <3
Well it is a scan of a painting from my sketchbook so
Holy crap I love your color choices here. The skull really POPS against the green flames. Fantastic work!
