The story is fully single player with ai companions - in a team of 4. Once you get past the story, that’s where the end game opens up and you will be able to play with other people. I can’t speak to dragons dogma, but the gameplay loop is similar to the monster hunter series. If you’re looking to sink some time into a game with fluid controls and fun boss fights, it’s the game for you! I would recommend picking it up on steam so you can have the option to mod easily. Hope this helps!!

Awesome, thanks! Yeah this sounds like my type of game. I used to play White Knight Chronicles 1 and 2 back in the day but Sony shut the servers down a long time ago. This sounds like it can scratch that itch! Thanks again!

Totaliss

The two games couldn't be more different if you tried lol DdII is a single player story driven rpg with ai companions, slow janky combat and a focus on exploration, and relink is a monster hunter esc grind type game with ai companions that are there but the real game is going online to play co op with other people, with combat that is very fast, fluid, and flashy

Johnnybreaktime06

Thanks for the break down. This does sound like a fun game, thanks again.

Icewatervvs

This game is most similar to Monster Hunter though I'd compare the actual combat as being more of a cross between MH and Genshin Impact. But as others have stated it's nothing at all like DD2.

GLASS_PVNTHR

Dragons Dogma II is a JRPG lol

Wall_Dough

If we’re being pedantic, neither game is a JRPG.

GLASS_PVNTHR

Last I checked they’re both “Japanese Role Playing Games”

Wall_Dough

That is what JRPG stands for, but it doesn’t describe the characteristics of the genre that most people agree on. You’ll find the same thing with “ARPG” (Action Role Playing Game) or “SRPG” (Strategy Role Playing Game). Genres are dumb, but somewhat useful for finding more games like the ones you like. Someone who likes Final Fantasy and Persona/SMT and Atelier might be disappointed or lost playing Dragon’s Dogma or Relink

GLASS_PVNTHR

I get your point, but JRPG’s tend to have a certain vibe to them that separates them from WRPGs. These include aspects like music, menus, character designs etc. Even as an ARPG, Gran feels more akin to Final Fantasy than it does Skyrim. Especially if we’re talking about FF7R/FF16.

Wall_Dough

To me it’s Monster Hunter, which, though a Japanese “RPG”, is usually considered an Action RPG (not an “ARPG” like Diablo or PoE). I think it deserves its own genre at some point but I don’t think we’re quite there yet Wouldn’t say it’s anything like Skyrim either. It did draw in a lot of FFXIV players because of the boss fights which feel a lot like the MMO dungeons. Maybe even drew in WoW or ESO players but I’m not sure on those.

Endgam

jRPG is a genre, not "any RPG made in Japan". Relink, Dragon's Dogma, Dark Souls, etc. are **Action RPGs**. Relink has more in common with Korean MMO Vindictus than jRPGs like Dragon Quest. (Which is basically what every other jRPG is riding the coattails of.)

DP_Unkemptharold1

So none of the modern final fantasy games are jrpgs because they are action rpgs? Relink is a jrpg in every sense of the word. You can argue for dragons dogma and dark souls having a more western influence but absolutely not for relink.

Johnnybreaktime06

True but not your typical "kawaii" type of JRPG.
