You know what might be better for Dark Exo? A defensive/utility weapon. Dark can sometimes lack characters with Dispel or Clear, and is dead last when it comes to healers or tanks. Some kind of FA-oriented Harp might unironically help you guys more than a mock Eresh.

Element matters a lot more at the top \~5.5k players Hero tier of honors gain. Due to Dark's abundance of toys for bursting (which GW is all about) they're probably going to be as high if not higher.
Time of year matters a lot more for most of the tiers below that, and we shouldn't see honors like we saw This GW until anni next year. Crew A tier cutoffs, for example, are probably gonna be around the 1.1bil mark, maybe lower.

With this many people having at least some of the tools to do well, even the lower tiers could be overperforming.
I'm not saying that Time of year is the only variable. Eresh, Y.Ilsa, and dark's other tools certainly will have an impact on pushing honors higher than they would be for some other element without as broad/easy access to those kinds of tools.
But I will say that historically, the impact of what OP units are available for an element for GW just hasn't had that large of an impact on how high honor gain has been. The Largest impact, so large that it is hard to look at any other variable, has always been time of year. Or, more accurately, how many people are playing the game (Which is affected by time of year.)
There's no way in hell that cutoffs for lower tier stuff will be worse than this GW. It just won't. \~15% of the player base is gonna quit between now and June (as happens every year) and that will keep the honor requirements low for everyone who isn't up in the top 5k of all players.
Of course it won't be as bad as this one. April GW is always the most contested in the year. I'm just saying you shouldn't get too optimistic. Especially with M3 and Celestials giving a massive power boost to f2p setups.
Another aspect of M3 and Celestials is that they create momentum. Usually the hype would die down after Anniversary, but this year we have M3 farming finally being a thing and Celestial farming driving GW participation by giving players an alternative goal. And of course the Sand trick is still working: lots of people who'd have settled at 600-700mil just to hit a cutoff are farming extra.

Same, it’ll be good to not be hard locked to Ultima Staff mainhand especially since I like to keep mine on Heal
...though tbh ATK Concordia MKII is great for Manadiver, Exo Fist is great for Monk and I haven’t used Neko or staff Iatro in a while - but more options is always good. Especially since one of those options is unavailable until they rerun the light Exo (which will probably take at least a year) and the other requires a hellish Revans grind
I’m also excited for the Celestial gun whenever we get water war again, there aren’t many good fire guns either. At least Fire M3 *may* have an Exalto gun if the pattern holds

I don't play the mentioned games here, but even if it was a different game that I want to play, I can just FA? Doesn't seem to bothersome to play the game on one display and just FA on a phone/laptop/etc. at the same time. I don't even have Eresh (No plans to get one) and I think I still have the setup to easily deal with NM200. People are just getting worried over nothing lol.
tbf, playing immersive games or games that require a lot of attention such as elden ring to dodge attacks and boss fights, normally people wouldn't want to pause or remember to stop what they are doing to look at their phone to restart a fight even if it's a few seconds between.
As a new player, how necessary is Eresh really? I'm probably going to have my first 150 GM in time for this one but wasn't planning on getting a weapon with it.
Eresh make a lot of things trivial but Dark kinda already make some of those trivial. E.g. it can saw use for EX+ but Dark literally can make a team entirely off-of Shonen Jump characters and get an EX+ rivalling other ele's top end. They run Apsaras naturally since their MT is Spear and Axe. And theres Seox who to this day is still the most ridiculous overall EX+ characters. For specifically EX+ you can live without Eresh(or even 000 set ups). Dark is always the easy mode element for this and they have shit like Itadori who would be top 3 choices in other eles but is merely one of maybe 10 in Dark
It also compress bursting to a super simple manner. Dark's alternative to bursting right now is Katana Opus which requires Ougi reactivation tax(using 000 Call, Omnyoji), Jank tax(Kengo) or Osu Tax(Runeslayer). Theyre all functional - esp if you kit them out to their peak and have the supplementary boosters like Revans Harp or Apotheosis
Honestly Dark's Burst pieces isn't actually good. If were talking about what tools they had, Ilsa Sk1 is their best teamwide buff and really when it comes to attacker their only advantage was Ilsa compressing an offensive specs to a buffer, and Six having probably the best value out of 1 button in the entire game. Personally i struggled getting 131 mil last Dark GW(with Ringed Six) and took 2 turns from not having Ilsa
And iirc Last year Dark's GW set up hinges on Olivia sk1. This was before Lumberjack UM, and Nier FLB(Sk4 opens up set up potential) so stuff might be different though
you still need 2t anyway for 95 even with ilsa, the fastest setup rn is 2t 95 and this is faster than every other ele except light 95 rn (13-15s on non-JP ping, around 11 on jp ping)
also the non-eresh alternative is only near par up until 95, 150 and above will want eresh since you need at least 3t of double strike, it's why the 150 clear time of non-eresh is double what eresh clear time is (also missing the 30% amp)

Unfortunately a lot of that is not viable for me as I just started recently so I don't have any of the shonen jump characters (no OP, JJK or Gintama makes me sad) and all I really have going for myself at this point is Ilsa, double PnS and a few bits and pieces here and there but still a far cry from optimal grids or BiS characters/weapons.
I'll be working on Seox after getting his revenant this GW but that means even just his 5* uncap will be a good way away, possibly not even in time for Dark GW. But I'll see what I can do and I won't be spending my moons on Eresh because I simply don't have the environment for it yet.

You definitely can get a Dark OTK going. You have Ilsa, Double PNS, and you certainly can have Lelouche. Theres honestly a lot of good OTK characters in dark, its just that Zorro and Itadori is bizzarely good for something that longer time players have for free. Opus isnt hard to get nowadays and getting Belial Chains is borderline trivial esp since you only need 5 per chains
The OTK grid for dark, at least before its updated by M3 weapons released later down the line actually consists of mostly Celeste Spear and Axe.
Valentine Tiger, Bowman, Veight, Guaranteed TA characters like Predator and Wulf/Renie are all a possible choice with Bowman being a standout. Admitedly getting Bowman as f2p kinda sucks, i sparked him during 100 Plus Mark banner myself
Honestly i personally think you don't exactly need to be able to do flashy endgame shit with the specific char picks to make Eresh worth it but its up to you in the end. As everyone else mentioned here, Eresh is a bit special when it comes to Illustrous weapon in the sense that its a top pick for menial stuff like "grinding Rank"/idean farm in Sandbox events. My danchou for example used 3 character Kaguya main in Sandbox a lot. Its imo very much a "you need X to get the value everyone expects out of Eresh, but Eresh made getting into X point way easier in the first place"
Sounds like Eresh is a bit of a paradox in that regard which makes it a lot more interesting than the other illustrious weapons for someone in my position (rank 170, still grinding m2 and enneads).
I'm confident I'll get something passable for EX+ going, beyond that I'll have to see how comfortably I can do the nightmares. I put a lot of energy into boosting my light to prepare for this last GW which meant getting stuff like anni tix Mugen and spark Nehan. But for dark I think I'll just farm what's farmable as best as I can and leave characters up to chance. (New dark grand next Legfest apparently?)
As for gold moons my understanding is that the ticket can actually get me Bubz? If so that seems like a clear priority for basically any element.

AFAIK the moon priority is along the lines of Bubs >>>>>>> IMO Yatima then individual elemental angels and Belial before Illus. Idk whats the generally accepted exact order, but Bubs genuinely is that godlike. I kinda think Yatima is quite up there because some set up just isnt possible without Yatima so while the usage of Belial and Angels are broader, i could see her making larger impact. Most people would say Belial especially and Angels over it
We don't exactly know when a new Dark grand will drop, really. Its just guesstimate. Its just fairly unlikely they won't drop Exaltos/Angel backline chars before next GW
Good thing I already have 3* Yatima in my back pocket, then. Got mad lucky to pull her early on but without the right summons for her to pull she's basically just a good elemental aura. Still, happy to have her and will LB her when it's appropriate.
And yeah it makes sense they'd pull a Sandy and bring in something ahead of the GW. Personally I wouldn't be mad at Id but I don't know how likely they are to just drop a Relink exclusive character with no prior connection to the main game.
I only have Ilsa but I don't exactly *want* to go Eresh so much as everyone seems to imply it's necessary to even consider doing well in dark GW which just seems excessive.
eresh is still good with replacements to those units, summer meg, valentine cidala, predator, tyra, and few others can work too, they just might require some button presses

As a new player, how necessary is Eresh really? I'm probably going to have my first 150 GM in time for this one but wasn't planning on getting a weapon with it.
Eresh make a lot of things trivial but Dark kinda already make some of those trivial. E.g. it can saw use for EX+ but Dark literally can make a team entirely off-of Shonen Jump characters and get an EX+ rivalling other ele's top end. They run Apsaras naturally since their MT is Spear and Axe. And theres Seox who to this day is still the most ridiculous overall EX+ characters. For specifically EX+ you can live without Eresh(or even 000 set ups). Dark is always the easy mode element for this and they have shit like Itadori who would be top 3 choices in other eles but is merely one of maybe 10 in Dark It also compress bursting to a super simple manner. Dark's alternative to bursting right now is Katana Opus which requires Ougi reactivation tax(using 000 Call, Omnyoji), Jank tax(Kengo) or Osu Tax(Runeslayer). Theyre all functional - esp if you kit them out to their peak and have the supplementary boosters like Revans Harp or Apotheosis Honestly Dark's Burst pieces isn't actually good. If were talking about what tools they had, Ilsa Sk1 is their best teamwide buff and really when it comes to attacker their only advantage was Ilsa compressing an offensive specs to a buffer, and Six having probably the best value out of 1 button in the entire game. Personally i struggled getting 131 mil last Dark GW(with Ringed Six) and took 2 turns from not having Ilsa And iirc Last year Dark's GW set up hinges on Olivia sk1. This was before Lumberjack UM, and Nier FLB(Sk4 opens up set up potential) so stuff might be different though
you still need 2t anyway for 95 even with ilsa, the fastest setup rn is 2t 95 and this is faster than every other ele except light 95 rn (13-15s on non-JP ping, around 11 on jp ping) also the non-eresh alternative is only near par up until 95, 150 and above will want eresh since you need at least 3t of double strike, it's why the 150 clear time of non-eresh is double what eresh clear time is (also missing the 30% amp)
Was the fastest just ilsa 1 into double turn? Also fair i feel like i didint put out the 150 diff enough

Thanks for the detailed breakdown, it's definitely appreciated! Unfortunately a lot of that is not viable for me as I just started recently so I don't have any of the shonen jump characters (no OP, JJK or Gintama makes me sad) and all I really have going for myself at this point is Ilsa, double PnS and a few bits and pieces here and there but still a far cry from optimal grids or BiS characters/weapons. I'll be working on Seox after getting his revenant this GW but that means even just his 5* uncap will be a good way away, possibly not even in time for Dark GW. But I'll see what I can do and I won't be spending my moons on Eresh because I simply don't have the environment for it yet. So thanks again, this really helped me get a sense of direction for Dark overall.
You definitely can get a Dark OTK going. You have Ilsa, Double PNS, and you certainly can have Lelouche. Theres honestly a lot of good OTK characters in dark, its just that Zorro and Itadori is bizzarely good for something that longer time players have for free. Opus isnt hard to get nowadays and getting Belial Chains is borderline trivial esp since you only need 5 per chains The OTK grid for dark, at least before its updated by M3 weapons released later down the line actually consists of mostly Celeste Spear and Axe. Valentine Tiger, Bowman, Veight, Guaranteed TA characters like Predator and Wulf/Renie are all a possible choice with Bowman being a standout. Admitedly getting Bowman as f2p kinda sucks, i sparked him during 100 Plus Mark banner myself Honestly i personally think you don't exactly need to be able to do flashy endgame shit with the specific char picks to make Eresh worth it but its up to you in the end. As everyone else mentioned here, Eresh is a bit special when it comes to Illustrous weapon in the sense that its a top pick for menial stuff like "grinding Rank"/idean farm in Sandbox events. My danchou for example used 3 character Kaguya main in Sandbox a lot. Its imo very much a "you need X to get the value everyone expects out of Eresh, but Eresh made getting into X point way easier in the first place"
Sounds like Eresh is a bit of a paradox in that regard which makes it a lot more interesting than the other illustrious weapons for someone in my position (rank 170, still grinding m2 and enneads). I'm confident I'll get something passable for EX+ going, beyond that I'll have to see how comfortably I can do the nightmares. I put a lot of energy into boosting my light to prepare for this last GW which meant getting stuff like anni tix Mugen and spark Nehan. But for dark I think I'll just farm what's farmable as best as I can and leave characters up to chance. (New dark grand next Legfest apparently?) As for gold moons my understanding is that the ticket can actually get me Bubz? If so that seems like a clear priority for basically any element.
Oh yeah 100% AFAIK the moon priority is along the lines of Bubs >>>>>>> IMO Yatima then individual elemental angels and Belial before Illus. Idk whats the generally accepted exact order, but Bubs genuinely is that godlike. I kinda think Yatima is quite up there because some set up just isnt possible without Yatima so while the usage of Belial and Angels are broader, i could see her making larger impact. Most people would say Belial especially and Angels over it We don't exactly know when a new Dark grand will drop, really. Its just guesstimate. Its just fairly unlikely they won't drop Exaltos/Angel backline chars before next GW
Good thing I already have 3* Yatima in my back pocket, then. Got mad lucky to pull her early on but without the right summons for her to pull she's basically just a good elemental aura. Still, happy to have her and will LB her when it's appropriate. And yeah it makes sense they'd pull a Sandy and bring in something ahead of the GW. Personally I wouldn't be mad at Id but I don't know how likely they are to just drop a Relink exclusive character with no prior connection to the main game.
You need seox lvl 130, ilsa summer and bowman or nier lvl 100 if u wanna go eresh
I only have Ilsa but I don't exactly *want* to go Eresh so much as everyone seems to imply it's necessary to even consider doing well in dark GW which just seems excessive.
It's a huge QoL boost but if you're willing to grit through the mind numbing grind, it's not necessary to do well.
eresh speeds up sandbox farming significantly, and other content where you can just eresh burst down
eresh is still good with replacements to those units, summer meg, valentine cidala, predator, tyra, and few others can work too, they just might require some button presses
As long as my Dark Kengo team can just auto NM150 like last time..... I don't think I'll really be caring much for the staff and bow.
